Governor Kathy Hochul today announced that 8 SUNY campuses are developing departments, centers, and institutes of AI and Society to broaden AI development. The state has provided $5 million in funding to foster collaboration across disciplines to promote inclusive AI research, to address ethical concerns in the use of AI, and to advance responsible data use. Investments will launch the creation of the Institute for AI and Society at Binghamton University.

The Norwich Police Department concluded an investigation into the sale of narcotics yesterday, they arrested 59 year old John Williams of Edmeston on 3 Counts of Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance, Williams is accused of possessing Methamphetamine, Crack Cocaine & Fentanyl, plus cash from suspected drug sales, Williams was arraigned at Chenango County Court and is being held wihout Bail, pending further court appearances.

The Chenango County Sheriff's Office will hold their annual Shop with a Sheriff event, starting at 9:00 AM Saturday at the Norwich Walmart. 30 area children are selected to participate by county school district, each child is given $200 to shop for presents for their family, more information is available at 337-1921.

Chenango County Sheriff's Office arrested 33 year old Brandon Cullipher Of Plymouth On May 31, for DWI, Driving with a .08% BAC or Greater, and Aggravated DWI for driving while a child under the age of 16 is in a motor vehicle. Cullipher was observed driving a vehicle with no affixed inspection sticker on the windshield, he is also accused of driving the vehicle with an open container, with passengers under the age of 16. Cullipher was taken into custody, processed and released on an appearance ticket, to appear in the Town of North Norwich Court at a later date.
Broome County Sheriff's Office is partnering with the Southern Tier chapter of the American Red Cross for a Blood Drive today at the Sheriff's Office in honor of the late Broome County Deputy Kevin Tarsia, from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM. on July 4th, 2002, Deputy Tarsia was killed in the line of duty during an encounter with suspects from a firearms burglary at Grange Hall Park in Kirkwood. State Police at Troop C in Sidney announced that a 5-year-old and her dog, who were reported missing in the town of Franklin, were located safe & sound this afternoon at about 1:15 PM. State Police Aviation was able to spot Destiny & her dog in a tall grassy area and direct troopers and emergency personnel to her location. Police and several other agencies were dispatched this morning to the area of Grange Hall Road and State Route 28 in the town of Franklin. State Police said that Destiny and her puppy were located several hundred yards from the area where they were reported missing.

Emergency Medical Services Billing practices, they discovered that the EMS
Department did not bill for 614 incidents resulting in $417,600 of unbilled
medical services and inaccurately billed 9 incidents totaling $8,300; this
equates to approximately $200,000 in lost revenue at the current rate of
collection. The EMS Department had 903
unserviceable incidents resulting in approximately $400,000 in unrecoverable
costs. Norwich City officials disagreed
with some of the audit’s findings, but indicated they have initiated corrective
action.
