Governor Cuomo today announced that State Police and local
law enforcement will increase patrols to crack down on impaired driving and
underage drinking through Halloween. This special enforcement campaign runs
from today through Friday, November 1st.
Motorists can expect a number of sobriety checkpoints and additional DWI
patrols, Law enforcement will also be looking for motorists who are using their
phones and other electronic devices while behind the wheel.  Drivers should also remember to "move
over" for emergency and hazard vehicles stopped on the side of the road.


Delaware County Sheriff’s Deputies arrested 46 year old
Lyman McCann of Walton for Obstructing Governmental Administration & on a
Parole Warrant issued by the State Department of Corrections.   McCann is accused of physically obstructed
the administration of law, he was remanded to Delaware County Correctional
Facility without bail,  He was also
issued an appearance ticket to appear before the Town of Walton Court at a
later date to answer for the Obstructing Charge.


Adoption fees at the Susquehanna SPCA will be waived
tomorrow with the donation of cat, dog or kitten food.  The "Howl'oween Pet Adoption Event"
will be held from 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM Saturday at the shelter on state Highway
28, in Cooperstown.  Officials said that
all of the animals will be up to date on all vaccinations for Saturday's event.  More information is available at sqspca.org

Governor Cuomo reminded New
Yorkers that early voting will begin on tomorrow for the November 5th general
election. There will be 8 days of early voting, this will be the first election
in New York State with a period of early voting.

The Jericho Arts
Council will have "Nothin’ Fancy", a bluegrass band from Virginia
performing Saturday night at the Bainbridge Town Hall Theater.  Tickets are available at the gate prior to
the 7:00 PM show; tickets can be reserved at 288-3882.


Delaware County Sheriff’s Deputies responded Wednesday to a
truck- pedestrian accident at State Highway 10 and Pines Brook Road in the Town
of Walton.  70-year-old Edmund Jones of
Walton had stopped his vehicle to assist a turtle in crossing the roadway; he
was struck by a truck operated by 62 year-old Edward Sprague of Walton.  Jones sustained serious internal injuries
& was airlifted to Albany Medical Center, State Police Commercial Vehicle
Enforcement Unit inspected Sprague’s truck, which was taken out of service due
to a number of safety violations.
Sheriff’s Deputies anticipate tickets to be issued upon completion of
the investigation.


The Sidney Police Department will be participating in
collecting unwanted, outdated or unused prescription or over-the-counter
medications for National Prescription Drug Take Back Day Saturday from 10:00 AM
to 2:00 PM.  Sidney Police remind residents
that they will not be collecting needles, liquid medications or illegal
substances at this event, at the Sidney Police Department on Liberty Street.


As of 6:40 pm last night, power was restored to the SUNY
Broome campus. Classes will resume on schedule today, following the
cancellation of many classes yesterday, due to the power outage along Front
Street near the campus.


The 6th Annual DCMO BOCES Mountain Mover 5K race will be
held tomorrow at 10:00 am in Norwich. The 5k trail run will go through the
woods behind the BOCES campus in Norwich.

The Bainbridge Chamber of Commerce announced that they will
hold their annual Commitment to Community Dinner Saturday at 6:00 PM at the
Sundown Golf & Country Club in Guilford.
The Citizen of the Year award will go to Matthew Germond; the Business
of the Year award goes to Galaxy Bowl & the Service organization
Recognition Award goes to the Jericho Garden Club.


The Afton Parks Association Halloween Party will he held
tomorrow from 7:00 TO 11:00 PM at The River Club in Afton. Tickets can be
purchased at NBT, The River Club, Cobra Industries or by calling 639-2530 or
621-2601, proceeds will go to the Afton Parks Association.
