The Oxford Village Tree Board will be holding its 33rd “Tree City USA” and Arbor Day Celebration on Saturday, at 9 am at the LaFayette Park bandstand. Plans include a proclamation, Tree City USA flag and plaque presentation, and a giveaway of seedling trees and shrubs.

State Police responded Thursday Afternoon at about 2:20 PM, to a report of a multi-vehicle crash on I-81 southbound, in the town of LaFayette. The preliminary investigation has determined that the primary crash involved approximately 18 vehicles, including three tractor-trailers. There were also a number of smaller crashes. It is estimated that a total of approximately 30 vehicles were involved in the crash, which is believed to be weather-related. 8 patients were transported to area Hospitals, 2 have serious, but not life-threatening injuries.

The 6th annual Oxtoberfest will be held from 10 am. to 4 pm., Saturday, at Lafayette Park in Oxford. The free event will include crafters, a variety of food trucks, music, entertainment, and a kid-zone with various activities.

The Oxford Village Tree Board will be holding its 32nd “Tree City USA” and Arbor Day Celebration on Saturday, starting at 9 am., at LaFayette Park. The Tree City flag and plaque presentation will be part of the festivities, & there will be a giveaway of trees and shrubs.

State Police were dispatched Saturday to the report of a pedestrian struck by a vehicle in the town of Ithaca. 19 year old Max Ross of Lafayette Louisiana was in stable condition at Packer Hospital in Sayre, 30 year old Blake Curtis of the Cornell University Police Department has been charged with Vehicular Assault and DWI, Curtis immediately called 911. The investigation is ongoing.

The Oxtober Festival will take place from 10 am. to 4 pm. on Sunday, October 22, at LaFayette Park in Oxford. Activities include pumpkin carvings, a scarecrow contest, music from the Nate Gross Band, food trucks, a kid zone, vendors and more. The events was rescheduled after it was postponed earlier this month due to inclement weather.

State Police arrested 2 juveniles,
ages 14 and 17 for Burglary and Grand Larceny.
Troopers were dispatched on February 5th to the 14-year-old’s residence
after the teen’s family reported that the juvenile had left home some time
overnight, possibly with a 17-year-old who was also reported missing.  Troopers discovered that a vehicle was
missing from the town of Morris & that the 14 and 17-year-old teens
allegedly stole it & drove to Lafayette to pick up another minor.  The teens were found in Cortland and taken
into custody.   The 17-year-old was
arraigned and released to Otsego County DSS.
The 14-year-old was issued a family court appearance ticket.

“6 On The Square” will close out their 10th Anniversary season with Chenango County native Matt Nakoa at 2 pm. The performance will be held right on the square in Lafayette Park in Oxford, it will be held inside of 6OTS in case of rain. More information is available at 6onthesquare.org

The Oxford Village Tree Board will be holding its 13th annual ” Tree City USA” Arbor Day Celebration Saturday starting at 9 a.m. at the Lafayette Park Bandstand. Prize presentations will be made to 3 Oxford Academy 5th grade Arbor Day poster contest winners, and there will be a giveaway of 100 seedling trees and, new this year, a variety of 125 seedling shrubs. The Village of Oxford will meet in Lafayette Park for the annual Holiday Tree Lighting Ceremony, Sunday, at 5:00 PM. Plans call for lights, music, roasted chestnuts, caroling, and refreshments, highlighted by the lighting of the 12-foot evergreen tree.

Plans include an award ceremony beginning with a proclamation; The National Arbor Day Foundation named Oxford a “Tree City USA”, for its twenty-second year in a row.

The Oneonta Police Department arrested 57 year old Lafayette Alexander of Hollis Points, New York for 1st degree Forgery, 2 counts of 1st degree Identity Theft, 2 counts of Criminal Possession of a Forged Instrument, Falsifying business records, Attempted Identity Theft & Attempted Grand Larceny.  Police were notified by NBT bank personnel of a fraudulent business loan application,  Alexander allegedly used another person’s name, social security number, fake drivers license and fraudulent tax returns as well as other questionable information.  Alexander was arraigned and held on $30,000 cash bail, or $60,000 bond pending future court action.

The next Commerce Chenango BUSINESS AFTER HOURS event will be today in Oxford.  The event will be at “6 On The Square” in Lafayette Square from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.

At least 20 vehicles piled up on a snow-covered hill on I-81 between Tully & Lafayette today.  The interstate was shut down in both directions, motorists were re-routed to state route 11 for accident reconstruction teams & then for clean up, 3 ambulances responded for an undisclosed amount of injuries.
