The Norwich Police Department & Sherburne Police Department announces the apprehension of 42 year old Derek Balcom of Norwich, following a coordinated investigation and arrest operation. Balcom was charged with 2nd degree Assault, Grand Larceny, Conspiracy, Resisting Arrest, & Obstruction of Governmental Administration, On July 2nd, Balcom is accused of unlawfully entered the premises of UHS Chenango Memorial Hospital and stole a side-by-side UTV, on July 4th, he allegedly entered the property of a local business, obtaining keys to fleet vehicles before fleeing the scene. Balcom was located today in Sherburne, he fled from officers and fought with law enforcement, resulting in injuries to a Norwich Detective. Balcom was arraigned and is being held with no bail.
The Delaware County Department of Emergency Services announced the passing of East Branch Fire Department Assistant Chief Jason McGlone. The East Branch Fire Department responded to a motor vehicle crash, in the course of his duties, Assistant Chief McGlone suffered traumatic injuries, medical attention was rendered on scene, but he succumbed to his injuries.
Local Fire companies responded to a fire at the 4 corners in Milford in the early morning hours, 2 buildings at the southwest corner of the intersection were destroyed by the fire, WCDO will have more as the investigation into the cause of the fire continues.
The Chenango County Historical Society offers free programming this season through the “Family Fun Days at the Museum!” series, it is held during select Saturdays from 10 am until 4 pm. The series begins tomorrow, more information is available at ChenangoHistorical.org..

Amphenol of Sidney is celebrating 100 years in operation in the village of Sidney, with an Open House on Saturday with a host of activities & exhibits. The day will start at 8:00 with the Spark in the Park 5K race, and then the activities will shift to the new plant, spokesman Chris Cappello explains:

Unofficial results were released today regarding Tuesday's Primary Elections. In the Delaware County Republican Primary for the Treasurer's race, Carli Pinner defeated Ronda Williams with 56% of the vote, in the Town of Colchester, Robert Hafele will be the Republican candidate for Colchester Town Supervisor, David Rubera win the nomination in the Hancock town Supervisors race, James Ellis wins the nod in the Meredith Town Supervisors race, In the town of Sidney Board race, the nominees will be Frank Selleck & Andrew Hinkley, and for the Walton town board, the nominees will be Luis Rodriguez-Betancourt and Kevin Armstrong. In Chenango County, Ronald Sherman & Joel Lawrence won the Republican Party Nomination for Afton Town Board.
State Police responded to a 2-vehicle crash on State Route 11 in the town of Kirkwood. Investigators reported that Denise Ellis of Binghamton, was making a left turn when she failed to yield the right of way to a vehicle traveling north on State Route 11, the 2nd vehcile driven by 73 year old Nora Gibson of Pennsylvania, rolled as a result of the collision. Ellis was transported to Wilson Medical Center, her passenger was not injured, Gibson and a 74-year-old occupant were both transported to Wilson Medical Center. Ellis was ticketed, all injuries are believed to be non-life threatening.
Delaware County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to a 1 Car Motor Vehicle Accident on County Highway 21 in the Town of Walton, they identified the driver as 75-year-old Erol Tural of Walton, Deputies charged Tural with, DWI and driving with a blood alcohol content of .08% or greater, Moving from a Lane Unsafely, Speed not Reasonable & other charges, Tural was released on appearance tickets and traffic summonses and was directed to appear in the Town of Walton Court at a later date.

State Police arrested 32 year old Jason Hubbell of Cooperstown, for 2nd degree Burglary, Criminal Mischief and Resisting Arrest. Troopers were dispatched to a report of a domestic dispute in Roseboom, Hubbell allegedly kicked in the front door of a residence, broke a secondary door then drove his vehicle into the victim’s vehicle before leaving the area. Troopers were able to locate Hubbell in Middlefield where he resisted arrest. Hubbell was ultimately taken into custody and later transported to the Otsego County Jail for Centralized Arraignment.
State Police arrested 29 year old Daniel Nelson of Bloomville for 2nd degree Assault, after Troopers responded to a residence in Cooperstown for a report of a domestic dispute on June 22. Troopers later learned that the other person was checked out at a local hospital and was treated for broken bones stemming from injuries sustained during the argument, Nelson was arrested and later transported to the Otsego County Jail for Centralized Arraignment.
Commerce Chenango announced that they will hold an Open House at their new location at 19 East Main Street in Norwich, Today from 4:30 to 6:30 PM, those in attendance will get to see the plans for the Early Learning Center that will be located on the 1st floor of that building.
A.O. Fox Hospital will be conducting a routine water flow test of its fire sprinkler system today at approximately 6 pm. The test will last 1 to 2 Hours. Residents in the immediate area may notice a temporary drop in water pressure or a slight discoloration of water during and directly following the testing period. Angelino said that the Budget Address with all the details behind the Governor's agenda will be unveiled on January 21st.
John Pierre Regazzi was sentenced to a state prison term of no less than two years and no more than six years for violating the terms of his probation sentence. Law Enforcement responded in August of 2021, August 1st of 2024, October 11th of 2024 for a number of issues regarding Regazzi for Burglaries, Assault, & violating the terms of probation, in November, the Delaware County Grand Jury returned a one count Indictment charging Regazzi with Criminal Contempt. Regazzi was brought before Judge Rosa Wednesday for sentencing, where the DA"s office asked for the maximum sentence allowable under the law due to Regazzi’s latest violent charges and for his willful disobedience of the Court’s orders, from 3 different courts.
In light of California’s devastating wildfires and the increasing frequency and severity of climate disasters across the country, U.S. Senator Kirsten Gillibrand is calling for state-federal cooperation to ensure that New York is fully prepared to respond to wildfires and other threats. Gillibrand commented about reaching out to state officials to see what can be done in New York State:

Mirabito Philanthropy, announced that their Golf Tournament from last year raised over $150,000 to various Charities. The Golf Tourney brought together Mirabito Energy Products customers, partners, employees and family members together for golf at the Turning Stone courses, money raised went to such charities as the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, Make-A-Wish, the Upstate Golisano Children's Hospital, the Roswell Park Cancer Center & the Boys & Girls Clubs, among many others. The family of Robert Brooks filed a federal civil rights lawsuit on Wednesday after Brooks was beaten by correctional officers at Marcy Correctional Facility and died at an area hospital the following day in December. The New York State Attorney General's Office has stepped back from the investigation, the case has been turned over to Onondaga County District Attorney's office for the officials investigation. The Lawsuit in the United States District Court for the Northern District of New York is against 17 defendants who are directly or indirectly involved in Brooks case.
The Transportation Security Administration officers confiscated a total of 23 handguns, at upstate New York Airports last year. All weapons were found during the routine screening of carry-on luggage. Locally, No firearms were intercepted at Greater Binghamton Airport or Ithaca Tompkins International Airport.
The Broome County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a missing person, last seen in the Town of Chenango. 69 Year old Adib “Eddie” Rouhana, of Vestal was last seen on Saturday, January 11th around Noon in the 1100 block of Upper Front St. in the Town of Chenango, report any tips, video footage, sightings, or information to the Broome County Sheriff’s Office at Tip Line at (607) 778-1196.
