State Police at Oneonta arrested 33 year old Jonathan Hynes, who was arraigned on charges from a sealed indictment in Delaware County Court, for 2 counts of 1st degree Robbery, 3rd & 4th degree Grand Larceny, Criminal Possession of a Forged Instrument, 3rd degree Burglary, Criminally Possessing a Hypodermic Instrument & Endangering the Welfare of a Child.  The charges followed the investigation into the October 26th Stamford Country Store & the October 28th robbery Davenport Quickway robberies.  Hynes was remanded to the Otsego County Jail without bail pending further action.  36 year old Jolene Hynes was also charged with Endangering the Welfare of a Child, she was arraigned in Stamford Town Court and was remanded to the Delaware County Jail on $1000 cash bail and $2000 bond, pending court action on November 26th.
The Chenango County Sheriff’s Office arrested 38-year-old Geneia Rood of Pitcher, completing the investigation into the death of 3-month-old Brenna Quinn on September 5th in Pitcher.  Deputies reported that the infant died while being watched by Rood, who has been charged with 2nd degree Manslaughter.  Dr. James Terzian ruled the victim’s death a homicide, as the child had alcohol in her system. Rood was arraigned in Chenango County Court and was remanded to the Chenango County Jail on $50,000 cash bail; she will face court action on November 18th.
Delaware county Deputies arrested 3 people on a Sealed Indictment Warrants issued by the Delaware County Court.   42-year-old Amy Mills of Franklin was charged with 2 counts of Criminal Sale of a Controlled Substance, for allegedly selling prescription medications, she was arraigned in the Delaware County Court and remanded to the Delaware County Jail on $5,000.00 cash bail or $10,000.00 insured bond.  Also, 39 year old Stephanie Townsend of Sidney was charged with 3 counts of Criminal Sale of a Controlled Substance and 45 year old James Townsend of Sidney was charged with 1 count of Criminal Sale of a Controlled Substance, they are accused of selling prescription medications, they were both arraigned & were remanded to the Delaware County Jail without bail.   Sidney Village Police Department assisted deputies during the investigation and the subsequent arrests.
The Oneonta town board is expected to act on their annual budget proposal at tonight’s meeting.  The budget totals 1.2 million dollars; with a tax levy increase of 1.2%.  Tonight’s meeting will be held at the Oneonta town hall in west Oneonta starting at 7:30 PM.
The Sidney Memorial Public Library will host a presentation of New York state health Navigators tonight at 6:30.  The presentation is a chance for uninsured individuals under the age of 65 to have access to affordable health insurance options.  The program is free & open to the public.

State police arrested Bradley Falkenmeyer of Bainbridge for 2nd degree burglary and 2 counts of criminal possession of a weapon.   The arrest followed an investigation of a theft of firearms on Kilkenny Road in Unadilla in August.   The stolen firearms were recovered; Falkenmeyer was arraigned at the Otsego town court and remanded to the Otsego jail on $10,000 cash bond.
Traffic was slowed down in Binghamton for several hours yesterday on I-81 following a tractor-trailer rollover at 2:40 pm.   The tractor-trailer was hauling a load of roofing trusses, which had shifted on a curve and caused the accident.  28-year-old Thomas Stauffer of Selinsgrove Pennsylvania was not injured in the incident; he was ticketed for an improperly secured load, returnable in Dickinson Town Court at a later date. Northbound Traffic was interrupted for about 2 hours.
The Broome County Sheriff’s Office responded to 1323 Upper Front Street in the Town of Chenango this morning following a report of fighting in the parking lot of the Manley’s Mighty Mart and then at the Express Mart in the Town of Dickinson. Deputies located the Honda that reportedly left both scenes, 27 year old Kamal Khawaja of Deposit was charged with DWI, Driving with a BAC of .08% or higher as well as a Tinted Window violation, he was later released & will appear in the Town of Fenton Court at a later date.

State police at Norwich arrested 47-year-old Scott Fitch of Oxford, for DWI with a BAC result of .16%, twice the legal limit.  The arrest resulted from a traffic stop on Mechanic Street Oxford; Fitch was issued tickets returnable to the Oxford village court on November 18th.
The state DMV is now offering 35 expanded online services, which includes the ability to view the status of an identification card or driver license, renew, or replace a license online. On the state’s DMV website, customers may now sign up for a free “MyDMV” account.  Customers can also register to vote, become an organ donor and buy a copy of their driver records. Customers can also sign up for email reminders about registration and inspection renewals at dmv.ny.gov

The Delaware County Sheriff’s Deputies arrested 24-year-old Brayan Thompson of Delhi for Petty Larceny and 24-year-old Nathaniel Bracci of Delhi for 1 count of Criminal Possession of Stolen Property.  Deputies accuse Thompson of stealing property belonging to the Delaware County Dept of Public Works from a location in the Town of Franklin; Bracci allegedly sold the stolen property to a business in the Town of Davenport.   Both were issued appearance tickets for latest this month.

The Chenango county sheriff’s department arrested 34-year-old Hayes Cutting of Bainbridge on a Parole Warrant & for Resisting Arrest.   Cutting was located in Bainbridge, & after deputies informed Him that he was being placed under arrest for Parole Violation for a previous charge of 2nd degree Assault, he attempted to flee the scene on foot. Cutting was taken into custody a short distance away and charged with Resisting arrest. Cutting was remanded to the Chenango County Correctional Facility without bail and will appear at a later date in court for the additional charge.

The Sidney Police Department has parking restrictions and street closings in effect for the Hometown Day Parade tomorrow.   No Parking rules are in effect on Main Street and River Street from 7:00 a.m. to the conclusion of the parade, street closures include Circle Drive from Fox to West Main at 11:00 AM, and at 12:30 closures will be Main Street at State Route 7, West Main Street from Loomis Drive to Main Street, East Main Street from Beale Boulevard to Main Street, and River Street from Colegrove to Main Street. With the increased demand by New York Yogurt manufacturers for local fresh milk, state lawmakers are working to help dairy farmers increase the size of their herd without incurring former costs associated with environmental impact studies.  Assemblyman Bill Magee explains:

The news comes as a German manufacturer is looking to locate another yogurt plants in western new York, that will also require more fresh local milk from New York dairy farmers, new York already leads the nation in yogurt production.

Governor Cuomo today announced an agreement between New York State and the Saint Regis Mohawk Tribe to resolve a three-year dispute over gaming issues.  Under the agreement, the State will remove the 8-county Saint Regis Mohawk exclusivity zone from the proposed casino-siting legislation, and the Tribe will pay $30 million of payments owed and 25% of future gaming revenues to the State. The agreement also initiates discussions between the State, the Tribe, and local governments to resolve unrelated land claim disputes.
State Senator Jim Seward paid tribute to Kenneth Taylor of Franklin as a 2013 inductee to the New York State Senate Veterans Hall of Fame.  Sergeant Taylor served as team leader of 6-man long range reconnaissance patrols in Vietnam, he earned the Combat Infantry Badge, Vietnam Service Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal, and Air Medal.  Sergeant Taylor returned to home & served as a 45 year member of American Legion Post 1689, along with the Vietnam Veterans of America and the Disabled American Veterans in 2005.  Taylor was recognized during a special ceremony at the Capitol along with other inductees to the New York State Senate Veterans Hall of Fame, his biography along with other inductees can be found at www.nysenate.gov/veterans-hall-of-fame.

State Senator Jim Seward and State Senator John Flanagan will be in Delaware and Otsego Counties, Today.  Senator Seward and Senator Flanagan will tour the Franklin Central School at 1:15 and meet with Franklin School Superintendent Gordon Daniels, board of education members, and local elected officials including Village of Franklin Mayor John Campbell.  Seward and Flanagan will then convene a roundtable discussion at 4:10 at the Oneonta High School with school superintendents and board of education members from throughout Otsego and Delaware Counties to discuss the governor’s budget proposals for education and other topics related to the future of education in New York State.
About 40 people were left homeless in an apartment building fire on Main Street in Binghamton.  The fire started Sunday and continued through Monday, firefighters finally put out the last hot spots about 24 hours after the first call.  The Red Cross is assisting displaced residents; the cause of the fire is under investigation. No injuries were reported.

Residents in the village of Bainbridge are being asked to conserve water, as a leak in the water delivery system has not yet been found and repaired.  Mayor Chick Darling explains:

Darling requested that village water users refrain from using their washing machines, garden hoses & dishwashers until the leak is repaired.
Governor Cuomo today announced that New Yorkers would save more than $500 million on health insurance premiums in 2013 because the Department of Financial Services cut rate increase requests by insurers. Health insurers requested weighted average increases of approximately 12.4 percent, but DFS, cut the average increase to 7.5 percent. Additional Information is available at governor.ny.gov.
24-year-old Jovan Gresham of Vestal pleaded guilty to assault and weapons charges for shooting a man 8 times at the former Victoria’s Restaurant in Binghamton in 2010.  Gresham pleaded guilty to 1st degree assault and 2 counts of 2nd degree criminal possession of a weapon, for the shooting of Karlshen Marks, and for unlawfully possessing a loaded  handgun in the City of Binghamton.  Gresham faces sentencing on April 1st; he was released on a cash bail bond of $50,000.
The Chenango county sheriffs department arrested 55-year-old Mitchell Farwell on charges of 2nd degree Harassment and Resisting Arrest.    Farwell was charged following an investigation into a noise complaint in the Town of Norwich, he is accused of pushing the responding Deputy during his investigation and then attempted to prevent an arrest from being made. Farwell was arraigned in the Town of Norwich Court and remanded to the custody of the Sheriff on $500 cash bail.
Firefighters responded to a fire at 1065 Delaware County Highway 11 in Davenport Friday that destroyed a 2 story home.  The Layton family escaped without injury, but they lost family possessions a few pets in the blaze.  Firefighters from Davenport, East Meredith, Meridale, Oneonta, West Oneonta, Schenevus, Otego, Stamford and FAST units of Franklin and Worcester responded.  The cause of the fire is under investigation.
The Chenango county sheriffs department arrested 19 year old Joseph Daring of New Berlin on a 2nd degree harassment charge.   Daring is accused of grabbing of an unidentified victim by the neck during an argument.  Daring will appear in the Town of Norwich Court at a later date.
State Senator Jim Seward & Congressmen Chris Gibson toured Otsego County today.  Seward attended the Otsego County Chamber State of the State Breakfast in Oneonta, followed by tours of Ioxus, Corning, and Custom Electronics in through the afternoon.  Both men were recently re-elected to their positions & were sworn in last week to serve their next terms.
A former Otsego county motel manager has turned himself in to local authorities, after allegedly cashing a forged check in Oneonta last year.  24-year-old Kyle VanDewerker is accused of cashing a $600 check while serving as the manager of the Amber Life Inn Motel in Colliersville, a warrant of arrest was obtained for VanDewerker from the Oneonta City Court following a complaint form the motel owner.   VanDewerker faces court action shortly.
