A new law requires telemarketers to give customers the option to be added to their do-not-call list immediately after the telemarketer says their name and company. The new law passed in the Legislature this year and was signed by Governor Hochul, it goes into effect on March 6th of 2023.

P.M. NEWS TUESDAY 12-20-22

Unadilla Fire Department responded Monday Night at about 10:45 PM to a reported structure fire in the area of Buckhorn Lake Road and State Highway 7. Responding Firefighters discovered a working fire on the 2nd floor rear of the residence. Unadilla crews along with Wells Bridge crews were able to gain entry and knock the fire down. No injuries were reported, other Fire Departments assisting included Franklin, Sidney Sidney Center & Otego, the cause of the fire is under investigation.

Delaware County Chamber of Commerce is continuing to collect toys for the Annual Toys For Tots Campaign, they ask that people bring new, unwrapped gifts to a Toys for Tots collection box located throughout Delaware County. Delaware County Sheriff’s Deputies received a 911 call regarding a disabled vehicle blocking a portion of the roadway located on Case Hill Road in the Town of Franklin on Ocotber 18th. Deputies interviewed the driver of the vehicle, 52 year of Terri Nocela of Downsville, she was charged with DWI, Felony DWI, Operation of a motor vehicle with a BAC greater than .08%, Operating a motor vehicle without an ignition interlock device, along with other lesser charges, Nocela was arraigned & was released on her own recognizance, she was ordered to appear in the Town of Walton Court at a later date.

Delaware County Sheriff's office arrested 23 year old Anna Genao of Franklin for Aggravated Unlicensed Operator charges as well as other violations following an investigation of a motor vehicle accident involving property damage and personal injury in Davenport on October 13th. Genao & other occupants were transported to an area hospital for non-life-threatening injuries, after an investigation, Deputies arrested Genao, she was processed and released, & will appear in Town of Davenport Court at a later date.

Several area fire companies responded last night to a Working structure fire 164 Anderson Avenue in Sidney Center. The fire was called in at about 8:10 PM, fire fighters from Sidney Center, Sidney, Trout creek, Masonville & Franklin responded, All occupants & pets escaped without injuries.

On May 28th, Delaware County Sheriff’s Deputies were dispatched to a 1 vehicle motor vehicle accident in the Town of Franklin. The investigation revealed that 18 year old William Mettler of Franklin was the driver of the vehicle, he was taken to a hospital, where Deputies secured a blood test to determine Mettler's blood alcohol content, Mettler also had a suspended driver’s license. Last Week, Deputies arrested Mettler for Driving with a BAC of 0.08% or higher, Aggravated Unlicensed Operation of a Motor Vehicle, as well as other traffic violations, he will appear before the Town of Franklin Court at a later date.

Binghamton Police Department responded Monday to 314 Prospect Street for the report of a shooting. Officers located a 26 year old male who was shot in the abdomen, he was taken to an area hospital for emergency surgery. Police arrested Franklin Smalls of Binghamton for Attempted Murder and Criminal Possession of a Weapon, the investigation is continuing.

The Delaware County Sheriff’s Office is currently investigating the theft of a 30-foot camper from a Case Hill Road residence in the Town of Franklin. The camper was last seen on August 13th or August 14th and was reported stolen on August 27th, it is described as beige & gray colored, Keystone Ultralite Camper with New Jersey plates TXP17X. Chenango County Sheriff's Office arrested 34 year old Kaitlyn Franklin of Sherburne for Harassment and Endangering the Welfare of a Child. Franklin is accused of subjecting a female under the age of 17 years old to unwanted physical contact, she was arrested without incident, processed, and released on an appearance ticket to appear in the Village of Sherburne Court at a later date.

Broome County Sheriff’s Deputy responded to a 2-car accident on I-86 in the Town of Windsor. During the investigation, 39 year old Michael Morgan of Queens, failed a field sobriety test & was charged with operating a motor vehicle while impaired by drugs. Morgan was processed and released on tickets returnable to the Town of Windsor Court.

Firefighters from Bainbridge, Guilford, Mount Upton, Masonville, Coventry, Franklin, Trout Creek, Afton and Sidney all responded to a structure fire at the Auto Plus Store at 4 Front Street Monday Night at about 9:00 PM. Investigators are trying to determine how the fire started, the store was closed when the fire broke out, no injuries among fire fighters were reported.

The Delaware County Department of Public Works will continue work on a catch basin on County Route 14 in the Town of Franklin for the next 2 weeks. The work will take place in the hamlet of Treadwell just east of the intersection of County Route 14 and Case Hill Road. Traffic will be controlled with temporary Stop signs, the traveling public should expect minor delays during the work period.

The 1st Nate Lull Scholarship Foundation Golf Tournament was held at the Ouleout Creek Golf Course in Franklin Sunday, WCDO Sports Director Nate Lull decided to start the scholarship fund for students in the Tri-County region;

Another large crowd attended this year's Class of 2022 National Baseball Hall of Fame induction ceremony in Cooperstown on Sunday. First up was Left Handed Pitcher Jim Kaat, who played from 1959 to 1983, mostly with the Minnesota Twins, he said it was an honor to be selected by the Golden Era Committee for induction:

The Late Gil Hodges made a name for himself as a 1st baseman for the Brooklyn & Los Angeles Dodgers, and as the manager of the Miracle Mets of 1969. Gil's daughter Irene Hodges told the audience how her father soothed the fears of Japanese children by teaching them baseball during Word War 2, but how he befriended & championed Jackie Robinson, the 1st African American Major Leaguer & Hodges teammate in Brooklyn:

More than 50 Hall of Famers are expected to return to Cooperstown this weekend to honor the Class of 2022. Delaware County Sheriff's Office arrested 25 year old Matthew Fenelon of Brooklyn for Aggravated Unlicensed Operation & a variety of other charges, following an investigation of a Rollover accident in the Town of Franklin July 5th. Deputies reported that the vehicle was operated by Fenelon, he was extricated from the vehicle and transported to a hospital by LifeNet. Deputies found that Fenelon was operating a vehcile with a suspended registration, his driving privileges were also suspended. On July 8th, Deputies made contact with Fenelon after he was released from the hospital & he was arrested & was released on appearance tickets for Town of Franklin Court at a later date.

Delaware County Sheriff's Office have arrested 29 year old Victor Grandel of Brooklyn. Deputies responded July 2nd to an accident scene on County Route 21 in Franklin, where the vehicle had been reported stolen out of New York City in June, a search of the vehicle revealed a quantity of drugs, drug paraphernalia, a loaded firearm, and cash. 3 individuals occupying the vehicle were transported to the hospital for treatment of injuries, Grandel was taken into custody by Deputies and charged with Criminal Possession of Stolen Property & Criminal Possession of a Weapon, he was arraigned & was remanded to the custody of the Delaware County Correctional Facility pending a future court appearance. Arrest warrants were issued for the other 2 occupants of the vehicle.
Otsego County Sheriff's Office arrested 58-year-old Dale Beach of Franklin for criminal mischief for an incident last month. Beach is accused of damaging a vehicle by throwing rocks at it in the town of Otego, he was arrested and faces court action shortly.

STATE POLICE at Troop C announced that 1 person was arrested during an Underage Drinking Initiative in Delaware County on Wednesday. Alcohol was sold to a minor at Smiley’s Convenience Store located at West Main Street, Sidney, an appearance ticket was issued to the clerk who sold alcohol to the minor. Several other businesses in Sidney, Walton, Franklin & Delhi were in compliance.

The Broome County District Attorney Mike Korchak announced that 47 year old Lance Johnson of Binghamton was found guilty on all counts in Broome County Court Thursday, for the fatal shooting of Alison Salisbury of Binghamton and for the shooting of Shannon Brooks of Conklin, on August 7, 2020. Johnson will be sentenced on October 7th.

State Comptroller Tom DiNapoli's office recently conducted an audit of the Franklin Central School. The Key Findings were that District officials did not adequately manage network user accounts, periodically compare installed software to an authorized software inventory or develop an IT contingency plan. In addition to finding sensitive information technology control weaknesses, the audit found that 9 of the District’s network user accounts were not needed. District officials generally agreed with the Audit's recommendations and have initiated or indicated they planned to initiate corrective action.

Delaware County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to a 1 car property damage automobile accident on County Highway 14 in the Town of Franklin on May 5th. Deputies determined that the vehicle crossed over the dividing lines, entered into the oncoming lane of travel, struck guardrails, causing it to become disabled. 53-year-old Dorian Stewart of Unadilla was operating the vehicle with a suspended license and in an intoxicated state, she was charged with failure to keep right, aggravated unlicensed operation and operating a motor vehicle while under the influence of drugs. Vision, Worcester, Schenevus, Franklin and Pindars Corners fire departments assisted at the scene, no one was home when the fire broke out & no injuries were reported.
