The Utica School of Commerce hosted an open house at the new Sidney location at the Tri Town Regional Hospital building on Pearl Street West last night. USC Vice President Don Reese explains:

A “Communities that Care” Blood Drive will be held today at the Sidney Fire Hall from 12:00 to 6:00pm there will be FREE T-SHIRTS and Community Goody Bags for ALL Donors, the Life Net Helicopter will be on display.

USC will hold an open house the Sidney location Monday from 5:00 to 7:00 PM, classes will begin June 16th.

State police at Troop C in Sidney held their annual Memorial Service today, to honor those who lost their lives in the line of duty. Troop C Commander Major Donald Faughnan comments:

Major Faughnan noted that 4 troopers died in the line of duty in the last year, he also noted that it was 20 years ago today, that Investigator Rick Parisian died while trying to stop an armed robbery at an Oneonta Supermarket.

The Utica School of Commerce will begin offering classes at a Sidney location starting next month. USC Vice President of corporate & workforce development Don Reese gave WCDO News the details:

Reese said that courses would be available day & evenings accounting, computer skills, business math, & medical coding & billing as well as their businesses courses.

Delaware County Sheriff’s Deputies arrested 52-year-old Donna Whelan of Long Beach for Promoting Prison Contraband & Criminal Possession of a Controlled substance. Whelan was being booked in at the Delaware County Jail on unrelated criminal charges, a quantity of cocaine was found while searching her purse.   Whelan was arraigned in Delhi Town Court and was returned to jail on $1000 cash bail or $2000 bond, pending future court action.

Negotiations are underway this week that could lead to advanced educational opportunities coming to Sidney.  Utica School Of Commerce vice President Don Reese Explains:

Reese said that should the negotiations this week end favorably, classes could begin as early as the first week of June at a Sidney Location.

Tomorrow, Rotary District Governor Don Reese will be at the Sidney Fire Department on River Street, as the International Rotary organization collects fire turnout gear to donate to firefighters in Chile in South America. The Sidney Fire Department is donating 12 complete sets with helmets.

Smithville, Triangle, Greene, Oxford, and McDonough fire crews responded this morning to a house fire, that injured two occupants at 127 State Highway 220 in Smithville. A 71-year-old man and his 37-year-old grandson were living in the two-story home. The 71-year-old was airlifted to Upstate Medical in Syracuse for burns. The other victim was taken to Wilson Hospital for his injuries and then transferred to Upstate Medical. The severity of their injuries is unknown
