The Greene Central School District announced that their Primary and Intermediate schools had to go to remote learning today, due to a water main break. Students from Pre-K to 5th grade students were affected. Also, Due to the poor road conditions, all students in the Harpursville Schools will be fully remote Tuesday & Wednesday.

Delaware County Sheriff’s Office announced the arrest of a Deputy for Driving While Intoxicated and Official Misconduct. 25 year old Anthony Shields of Colchester was arrested on December 17th by Sheriff’s Deputies for reporting to work in an alleged intoxicated condition. Shields recently graduated the Police Academy in November and was previously employed at the Sheriff’s Office as a Corrections Officer since 2017. Shields was processed and released on appearance tickets reportable to the Delhi Town Court on January 26th & has been terminated from his position.

O’Connor Hospital in Delhi is hosting a special drive-through parade for families to visit Santa Claus on Saturday, December 5, from 11:00 AN to 12:00 Noon. The event will be an alternative to Delhi’s traditional holiday parade, Vehicles will drive around the front upper parking lot of O’Connor Hospital, and more information is available on Facebook or by calling 746-0331.

The Sidney Central School District has been notified that 2 members of the District community have tested positive for COVID-19. The first individual has not been on campus since Thursday, November 12th and the second individual since last Friday, November 20th.  The Department of Health Services has conducted and completed the contact tracing. Any and all people impacted have been notified. The potential exposure has been minimized in this case because of the emphasis placed on wearing face coverings and social distancing; there will be no change to the current Sidney School Schedule.

Governor Cuomo held a COVID 19 briefing in New York City Sunday; he stated that the current concern will be how high the infection rates will get after Thanksgiving & the Christmas holidays:

The state performed over 196,608 tests Saturday, with 5391 positive tests, 2562 are now hospitalized, 500 are in an ICU Bed, 234 are on ventilators & there were 30 deaths from COVID Saturday.

State Police arrested 73 year old Darrel Rich for 1st degree assault, in connection with a shooting in the town of Fenton on Saturday. State police reported that a 58-year-old woman was shot and was taken to Wilson Hospital in Johnson City. Rich was processed and transported to Broome County Central Arraignment, the shooting remains under investigation.

The Masonville Fire Department responded to a barn fire in Masonville Sunday on State Route 206. The fire started around 4:30 PM Sunday, 16 fire departments responded, the barn was filled with Hay, no people or animals were injured, it was completely destroyed, Delaware County Emergency Services is investigating the cause.

The Binghamton area has been designated as a Yellow zone, since the discovery of clusters in the City. Yellow Zone restrictions include no more than 25 people at a gathering, indoors or outdoors, houses of worship can have 50% maximum capacity, non essential businesses remain open, Indoor & Outdoor Dining are permitted with 4 maximum per table, Schools are Open with Mandatory weekly testing of students and school personnel, in accordance with DOH guidance.

Delaware County Public Health is offering seasonal flu vaccine for County residents, who are income eligible on Tuesday October 13, between 12:00 to 3:00 PM at the Health Department located at 99 Main Street in Delhi. Appointments are required, more information is available at 832-5200.

Village of Delhi Police Department arrested 32-year-old Sheila Thompson and 32-year-old Kyle Alverson of Delhi, each of them being charged with Unlawfully Growing Cannabis and 6 counts of Endangering the Welfare of a Child. Thompson and Alverson were released with appearance tickets directing them to appear in Delhi Town Court to answer the charges at a later date.

Chenango County Health Department announced that they will have 3 Drive-through rabies clinics this year.  The next one will be in Bainbridge at General Clinton Park Today from 9:00 to 11:00, one is also scheduled at the Sherburne Earlville High School bus garage on October 31st from 9:00 to 11:00 and another will be held at the South New Berlin Fire Station on December 5th from 9:00 to 11:00, Pre-Registration is Required at health.ny.gov/go2clinic/9 or by calling 337-1673.

The Community Foundation for South Central New York has released the results of their most recent survey of the needs of local non-profits as they continue to respond to the COVID-19 Pandemic. In August, as a follow-up to an earlier survey done, the Foundation surveyed local organizations including non-profits, school districts, economic development agencies and others, 111 responded with ongoing concerns about lost revenue, cash flow, the mental health of employees and clients, and the expectation that their circumstances will likely be worse in 2021.  More information about the Foundation can be found on its website at www.donorswhocare.org.

Pucci said that the representatives from County employers will have their own tents out front, from 1:00 to 3:30 Monday, Wednesday & Friday, masks & social distancing is required, more information is available at delawarecounty.org.

Governor Cuomo announced a Friday deadline for school districts that have not submitted plans for in-person learning yet. Currently, 107 school districts have not submitted a plan for the fall, last Friday Governor Cuomo said that all school district should be able to re-open in September, but they must submit plans to be approved by the Health Department & the State Education Department.  Local schools that did not submit a plan include:   Cooperstown, Richfield Springs & Worcester in Otsego County, and Andes & Margaretville in Delaware County.

Driving with a broken windshield and a suspended license resulted in a Delaware County Sheriff's Deputies arresting a Delhi man last Wednesday evening and charging him with Driving While ability impaired by drugs and felony aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle.  Deputies observed a vehicle being operated on Phoebe Lane in the Village of Delhi with a broken windshield, they stopped the vehicle, which was driven by 30-year-old John Regazzi of Delhi, who was accused of driving while

impaired, along with several other lesser charges.   Regazzi was processed and released and was directed to appear in the Delhi Town Court at a later date.

The Sidney Central School District will receive over $52,000 in grant money from the U.S. Department of Agriculture, for a farm to school program.  The district will expand their efforts to procure locally sourced produce & food products from area farms, for school lunches & breakfast programs.

Delaware County Sheriff Deputies arrested 68 year old Thomas Lima of Franklin after they responded to a harassment complaint in the Town of Franklin on May 27th.  Lima allegedly made contact with, and harassed, a protected party for whom an order of protection was issued by the Delaware County Family Court, Deputies arrested Lima for harassment & criminal contempt, during processing at the Delaware County Sheriff's Office, Lima is accused of spitting on and attempting to trip Deputies, he was additionally charged with obstructing governmental administration & attempted assault on a police officer.  Lima was arraigned & was remanded to the Delaware County Correctional Facility on cash bail, pending future appearances in the Town of Franklin and Delhi Courts.

The Walton Central School District Board of education announced that they have appointed Michael MacDonald as the new Superintendent, starting on July 1st.  MacDonald will succeed interim Superintendent Larry Thomas; MacDonald started his education career as a Special Ed Teacher in Walton in the early 90's

Cornell Cooperative Extension, Catholic Charities, the SUNY Morrisville Norwich Campus will be holding dairy and ag product drive-thru event today at the Chenango County Fairgrounds.  A variety of dairy products, including Chobani yogurt, will be donated to those families in-need beginning at 2:00 p.m. until supplies are gone.

Sidney Central School District announced that today from
9:00 AM to 12:00 Noon, they will be distributing educational materials to
students in grades 1st, 2nd, and 4-12th. One of the district's goals is to move
towards educational material being accessible online, also today, 5th and 6th
graders, that need a device, will be receiving a Chromebook, also from 9:00 AM
to 12:00 Noon, in front of the Jr./Sr. High School.

Delaware
County Sheriff's Office is investigating an on-line computer repair scam that
led to significant financial loss to an elderly local resident.  Investigators were contacted by The Delaware
National Bank of Delhi, the customer had fallen victim twice to an on-line
Pop-Up scam and lost thousands of dollars, the victim was stopped from further
issues by an alert UPS employee. The investigation is on-going by Delaware
County Sheriff's Investigators and San Diego County Sheriff’s Office.  Sheriff DuMond reminds the public that they
should contact the Sheriff's Office or local law enforcement if they may be the
target of a scam or identity theft.  On-line
complaint forms are available through the State Attorney General, ag.ny.gov;
the Federal Trade Commission, consumer.ftc.gov; and the FBI at ic3.gov.

The
Community Foundation for South Central New York has released a survey to assess
the COVID-19-related needs of local non-profits and the individuals and
communities they serve.   The survey will
provide information on critical operating and programming issues that are
anticipated as the COVID-19 situation progresses locally, it is located at

The
Chenango County Board of Supervisors passed a resolution to implement a 4%
occupancy "Bed" tax in Chenango County. The new Law will provide a
dedicated funding stream to promote and develop the tourism industry in
Chenango County and to reduce pressure on the property tax levy.  Chenango County has been one of just a few
counties in New York State that had not previously collected a bed tax.   Tourism is New York’s 3rd largest industry,
hosting 253 million visitors annually who spend 71.8 billion at NYS businesses
creating 114.8 billion in economic impact.

The New
York State Public High School Athletic Association announced that regional
& state championships will be postponed indefinitely.  The impacted events include Ice Hockey, Bowling
& the Boys & Girls Basketball regional & State Championships.  Officials announced the postponements were
due to the reports of the Corona Virus outbreaks across the state, to insure
the safety & health of the student athletes.

Fresh off of the successful collaboration between the
Raymond Corporation of Greene & the Sidney Central School District,
officials at Raymond are looking to implement similar programs at regional
schools in order to get students interested in Welding & Machining, Raymond
Senior Director of Operations Tony Topencik explains:

Topencik said that while Raymond is continuing to grow, they
will need more trained prospective employees, preferably from the local

The Delaware County Sheriff's Office arrested 18-year-old
Isaah Mann for criminal mischief, for allegedly destroying a cell-door window
while he was an inmate at the Delaware County Correctional Facility.  Mann will be arraigned in the Town of Delhi
Court on January 21st.

Governor Cuomo told reporters
today that he will release his state budget plan next Tuesday afternoon, and he
will detail how he will deal with the 6 Billion dollar projected budget
gap.  Cuomo said that the budget gap is
largely due to overspending on Medicaid beyond the 2% per year spending cap.

The Chenango Arts Council will showcase the work of
recipients of 2019’s New York State Decentralization Grant Program in the
Mariea Brown and Raymond Loft Galleries.
The exhibit will feature visual and performing arts from regional arts
organizations and will open today at 5:30 pm.
