State Police responded Saturday Night to a 1 vehicle crash on County Highway 1 and Little Dingle Hill Road in the town of Andes. An investigation at the scene determined that 27 year old Ethan Ray Kennedy of Delhi lost control of his vehicle & went off the roadway and struck an embankment causing the vehicle to roll and land on its roof. Kennedy did not survive.

A Delaware County Grand Jury returned a 4 Count Indictment against 36 year old William Weil of Bainbridge last week. Weil was indicted for Aggravated DWI, Felony DWI & Endangering the welfare of a child, for allegedly driving intoxicated with a child in his vehicle in Delhi on January 22nd, the DWI is a felony as Weil was convicted of DWI within the last 10 years. Weil faces action on the indictments shortly.

Thousands of unlawful vape and marijuana products were seized from a Conklin gas station as part of a compliance check by the Broome County Health Department. On March 9, members of the Sheriff’s Office and the Broome County Special Investigations Unit Task Force assisted the Broome County Health Department with a flavored nicotine vape compliance check at the “One Dream” Sunoco gas station located at 976 Conklin Rd in the Town of Conklin, they seized approximately 4,000 unlawful flavored nicotine vapes along with THC products, The business does not possess a valid license to dispense THC products. The unlawful flavored vapes are not taxed. In 2019, New York raised the legal age to purchase tobacco and vape products to 21, and in 2020 the state banned the sale of flavored vaping products, other than tobacco flavor. The compliance check was generated via a tip from the Susquehanna Valley Central School District.

36 year old John Pierre Regazzi of Delhi pleaded guilty to Assault, Forcible Touching and Criminal Contempt in Delaware County Court Wednesday, where he appeared for his scheduled pre-trial hearings. A jury trial was scheduled to commence on February 9, but Regazzi decided to enter a guilty plea, he will be sentenced to 5 years in state prison, to be followed by 3 years of post-release supervision, he will also be required to register as a sex offender for at least 20 years upon his release from state prison, and there will be a final order of protection in favor of the female victim. After pleading guilty, Judge Rosa remanded Regazzi back to the Delaware County Correctional Facility pending sentencing on April 1.

Chobani announced that they awarded $400,000 in grants to 40 nonprofit groups through the eighth annual Community Impact Fund. The grants will go to organizations in Central New York, Idaho, Philadelphia and Muskegon Michigan. Locally, the Afton Central Schools will use the funds to build a greenhouse for agricultural education and to supply fresh produce for the FFA Food Pantry. The Food Bank of Central New York will support its Senior Grocery Program, the Norwich City School District will expand its backpack program, the Oneonta Middle School will provide grocery gift cards to families throughout the year, and the Cooperstown Food Pantry will use its grant to offer year-round farmers market vouchers, SNAP matching and CSA shares from regional farms.

Sidney Police Department received a complaint Thursday of an unresponsive male seated in a vehicle blocking the automatic car wash at the Mirabito gas station on West Main Street. The Sidney Police Department K9 Unit responded and made contact with the individual. During the investigation, a quantity of methamphetamine, cocaine, and fentanyl was located inside the vehicle. Police arrested Jason Gray of Bainbridge for Driving While Ability Impaired by Drugs, multiple counts of Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance, Criminal Possession of a Stimulant with Intent to Sell, Gray was processed and was transported to Delaware County Central Arraignment Court.
The Goodyear Lake Polar Bear Jump will return to Goodyear Lake on February 21st, to raise money for area children suffering from a variety of health issues. The event has been held locally for 28 years, Last year they raised $186,000 through donations and auctions, 100% of the proceeds go directly to the children and their families. Delaware County Deputies arrested a Bainbtridge resident Thursday in the Village of Delhi, Deputies observed a vehicle being operated by a male passenger, from the passenger seat, without a driver in the driver seat. 35-year-old William Weil of Bainbridge, appeared to be intoxicated & had a child in the vehicle, he was charged with the Aggravated DWI- child in vehicle, Aggravated Unlicensed Operation in the 1st degree, Driving with a BAC of .08 of 1%, Reckless Driving, Felony DWI & Endangering the Welfare of a Child, Weil was released on appearance tickets returnable to the Town of Delhi Court at a later date.

State Troopers responded last Tuesday to State Highway 28 near County Highway 6 in the town of Middletown for a 2-vehicle crash. An investigation determined that an SUV driven by 36 year old Natasha Reed of Delhi crossed into on-coming traffic, into the path of an SUV driven by 57 year old Ernest Bilzer of Fleischmanns. Reed was pronounced deceased at Margaretville Hospital, Bilzer was transported to O’Connor Hospital for non-life-threatening injuries. The investigation is on-going.

Delhi Police Department arrested 21 year old Logan Hitchcock of Delhi on charges of 3rd degree Assault, Unlawful Imprisonment and Endangering the Welfare of a Child following a domestic incident in the Village of Delhi. Officers were dispatched to a reported domestic dispute on Meredith Street, they determined that a verbal altercation had escalated into a physical incident, during which a female victim sustained injuries while holding an infant, she was taken to O’Connor Hospital, Hitchcock was located and taken into custody, He was processed and was arraigned, a Temporary Order of Protection was requested on behalf of the victim and child.

Delaware County Historical Association will Unveil a Women's Suffrage Marker in Delhi on Saturday Morning at 11:15 am, adjacent to the Delaware National Bank on Delhi's Main Street. The ceremony will take place during Delhi's annual Harvest Festival on Courthouse Square. The marker recognizes the importance of this location in the local effort to allow women the legal right to vote in the early years of the last century.

The Deposit and Hancock Central School Districts Boards of Education have voted to move forward with a merger feasibility study, to see if it would be advantageous to combine the 2 districts. The New York State Education Department will provide up to $100,000 to help pay for the study, which will Review district enrollment, staffing, facilities, finances, and programs, weigh the possible benefits and challenges of merging and Gather input from people from both districts. State Police and the Broome County Sheriff’s Department responded to a residential fire at a home on Broad Street in the town of Chenango, A 26-year-old female resident had been able to get herself and two children, ages five and two, out of the home, but was unable to get to a one-year-old due to the heavy thick smoke. An Endicott man is facing a felony charge after allegedly stealing 27 iPhones from a FedEx facility while working for the company. Last Friday the Broome County Sheriff’s Office Road Patrol responded to a larceny complaint at FedEx Freight East, at Industrial Park Drive in the Town of Kirkwood. Security at the facility advised that someone had been stealing from iPhones since April by sneaking them out of the facility in his coat pocket. After reviewing footage, 22 year old Leon Roberts of Endicott was charged with 3rd degree Grand Larceny. Roberts was arraigned at Central Arraignment Part and released with an appearance ticket returnable to the Town of Kirkwood Court.

More than 200 Troopers and Investigators will receive advanced instruction on identifying and responding to animal cruelty cases so that they will be better equipped to detect, investigate, and document cruelty cases, Enhance collaboration with local law enforcement, animal welfare organizations, and prosecutors and it will allow for a more efficient response to these complex investigations.

47-year-old Timothy Stone of Cooperstown is facing additional charges, after being arrested on December 6th following a report of physical child abuse at a residence in the town of Middlefield. Deputies responded to Stone’s residence a week later, to serve additional paperwork, they discovered a number of firearms within the residence, he was charged with Criminal Possession of a weapon on top of the previous charges of Assault, Criminal Obstruction of Breathing, endangering the welfare of a child, & criminal contempt. Stone was transported to the Otsego County Correctional Facility to await Centralized Arraignment.

U.S. officials are sending a drone detection system to New York State after drones were spotted near Stewart Airport this week, following multiple reports in New Jersey and other surrounding states. Governor Hochul said that state governments need more power to deal with the small aircraft.

Delaware County Sheriff’s Deputies were dispatched to a report of a stolen vehicle from Delhi, 38-Year-Old Jared Barnes had used the vehicle without the owner’s permission, the vehicle was located by a tracking device on I-88 in the town of Afton. State Police, Chenango County Sheriff’s Office and Broome County Sheriff’s Office, assisted, a traffic stop was conducted and Barnes was transported to the Village of Sidney Police Department where Barnes was issued an appearance ticket for Unauthorized use of a Motor Vehicle, he was released and directed to appear in the Delhi Town Court on a later date.
Broome County Sheriff’s Office was alerted to a threat that was posted on Snapchat, Detectives located the owner of the account within minutes of the report being made, and charged a 15-year-old female with Making a Threat of Mass Harm. The unidentified juvenile is a student at Maine-Endwell High School.

Delaware Academy Central School District at Delhi will again be hosting area veterans for a special Veterans Day breakfast event on Thursday, November 8. Veterans and their families are invited to attend the event, beginning with a breakfast at 8:15 am, followed by an assembly and special program in the high school auditorium at 9:00 am. State Police held a graduation ceremony today for the Canine Handler Basic School. The ceremony was held at the State Police Academy in Albany. A total of 12 canine teams graduated, The canines and their handlers underwent 20 weeks of training at the New York State Police Canine Training Facility located in Cooperstown, In Troop C, Trooper Shane Jones, Canine Hedges were part of the Graduating class, Canine Hedges is named after Trooper Richard L. Hedges, who was killed in a traffic accident while on duty in 1942.

Governor Kathy Hochul announced that $2.3 billion in tax relief will go to nearly 3 million New Yorkers under the State’s School Tax Relief program. A social Media Threat against the Sidney & Walton Central School District was posted on Instagram and Facebook, Sidney Superintendent Eben Bullock told WCDO News that 4 were quickly identified, placed into a safe space & their parents were contacted, they also coordinated with the Sidney Police Department. Sidney Police stated that there was no credible information or evidence to support the threat being real & they remained at the school until dismissal, they are back at the Sidney District again today. Sidney Police are asking anyone with information to contact them at 607- 561-2301.

Broome County Special Investigations Unit Task Force collected $89,000 and cocaine after conducting an investigation into the sale of cocaine on June 14th. The task force executed a search warrant at 47 St. Charles St. in Johnson City and a financial institution, 25 grams of Cocaine, packaging, scales, cutting agents and around $89,000 were recovered, Krystal Newborn was arrested and charged with several counts of criminal possession of a controlled substance and criminally using drug paraphernalia, Newborn was arraigned at Central Arraignment and released pending further court action.

The Delaware County Sheriff’s Office arrested 37-year-old Nikita Kingsbury of Oneonta after she agreed to meet a confidential informant in Davenport for the purposes of selling controlled substances. Members of the Chenango County Sheriff's Office executed a no-knock search warrant at 113 Memory Lane in the Town of North Norwich, Deputies and Detectives entered the residence and located Matthew Mason, Christopher Fuller, Samantha Savianeso, and Thomas Knickerbocker, they located Methamphetamine, Fentanyl, Heroin, packaging materials, scales, hundreds of dollars in cash, and other materials indicative of the sale and distribution of drugs. Mason, Fuller, Savianeso, and Knickerbocker were transported to the Chenango County Sheriff's Office, Mason was processed and arraigned in Centralized Arraignment where he was held at the Chenango County Correctional Facility with no bail until he can be seen in Chenango County Court, the rest were released in their own recognizance.

Rich Townsend was a Science Teacher at Sidney at the start of the program in 2007, & is still guiding the program, he told WCDO about donations that they have received recently & what the money will be used for:

36 year old Ryan Wood of Sidney pleaded guilty to in Delaware County Court to Attempted Criminal Sale of a controlled substance. Wood sold Fentanyl to an undercover Police Informant in Sidney Last September, he was indicted in February on the charge and pleaded guilty this week in Delhi, sentencing will be held at a later date.
The USDA announced that Cargill Meat Solutions of Hazleton, Pennsylvania, is recalling approximately 16,243 pounds of raw ground beef products. The ground beef products were produced on April 26 & 27th, with an establishment number of "EST 86P" printed on the back of the label. Delaware County Sheriff's Office arrested 36 year old Kyle Walker of Utica, for Aggravated Unlicensed Operator of a Motor Vehicle and Unlicensed Operator following an investigation. Deputies responded Saturday to an emergency call for service for a possible abduction of an adult that occurred within Delaware County. Deputies along with Delhi Police Officers were able to locate the vehicle that was allegedly being used during the reported abduction which had been traveling from the Downsville area to the Village of Walton, it was found that no abduction had occurred, however Deputies found that Walker had 19 suspensions on his drivers license. Walker was issued appearance tickets to appear before the Village of Walton Court at a later date.

Broome County Sheriff's Deputies arrested 49 year old Christopher Merwin of Chenango Forks following a domestic incident in the Town of Chenango. Deputies responded to a residence on Marshman Road, the victim informed patrols of repeated incidents of verbal and physical disputes, including threats on her life with a firearm, deputies submitted a request for an Extreme Risk Protection Order, which was granted by the Town of Chenango Court. Crispell was charged with Promoting a Sexual Performance by a Child Under the Age of 17 and Possessing a Sexual Performance by a Child, she was remanded to the Cortland County Correctional Facility and is due to appear in the Town of Smithville Court on February 6th.

Delaware County Sheriff's office announced that a Sealed Indictment Arrest Warrant issued by the Delaware County Grand Jury has resulted in the arrest of 43 year old Leslie McClenon of Walton. Deputies were contacted by Walton Police, after McClenon went to the Police Department for the issued arrest warrant, Deputies took McClenon into custody on 4 Counts of Criminal Possession of a Control Substance, 1 count of Criminally Using Drug Paraphernalia, she was taken to the Delaware County Correctional Facility where she was held pending the next Centralized arraignment session.

On November 7th, Deputies received a complaint from the Town of Kortright Highway Department, Deputies were made aware of social media pictures of a male operating a pickup truck performing a “burn-out”, 19-year-old Deacon Phoenix of Walton did a “Burn-out” which caused damage to a Town of Kortright roadway. Phoenix and 43 year old Douglas Perrett of Delhi were both charged with Criminal Mischief, they were processed and released on Appearance Tickets for the Town of Kortright Court at a later date.

State Police BCI are asking the public’s assistance in identifying a man who entered Delaware National Bank of Delhi on September 29, 2023 and used a fraudulent ID to withdraw a large sum of money from a customer’s bank account. The male left the bank walking south on Main Street, he is described as a man in his 50’s, bald and wearing a blue long sleeve shirt with black pants. The man was using a cane and appeared to have a limp. A video is available on the State Police Facebook page, anyone with information can contact State Police at Troop C at (607)561-7400.

The Otsego County Solid Waste Department, Otsego County Conservation Association, and Casella announced that the Film Plastic Recycling Challenge is back, where area schools recycle plastic bags and other plastic film items which cannot be recycled through regular recycling programs. The challenge focuses on collecting clean, dry, plastic film to help keep it out of the landfill, it begins today until April 24th, Winners will be announced on Earth Day in April.

The Sidney Central School District has revealed its new nickname, During the monthly Board of Education meeting Tuesday night, where a group of students unrolled string backpacks to show the new nickname to the Board. The Sabers were selected out of three finalists, which also included the Lions and Rough Riders. The Sidney School District was 1 of about 60 New York State public school districts that used a nickname or mascot connected to Native Americans, a State Supreme Court ruling in June 2022 established that public school districts are prohibited from utilizing the nicknames and mascots.
