Hours for Early Voting for the June 28th Primaries will start Saturday June 18 & run through Sunday June 26th. 32 year old Anthony Schorer of Burlington was sentenced to 10 years probation in Otsego County Court. Schorer pleaded guilty to a 2nd degree criminal sexual act against a child, State Police originally arrested Schorer on January 4th and his brother, 33 year old Timothy Schorer of Hartwick on January 11th, he is due in court on June 24th. The alleged crimes happened between 2003 and 2010, the victim was between the ages of 5 and 11 years old.

The State Department of Health today announced the 1st confirmed orthopoxvirus case outside of New York City, following testing at the Wadsworth Lab in Albany. The Sullivan County health department is treating the case as a probable monkeypox case, and contact tracing efforts are underway. Broome County Transit premiered their new fully electric buses that the county will be transitioning to in the coming months. The Busses are manufactured by Nova Bus of Plattsburgh, Broome County will be the only county in the state to transition to an all-electric public transit system.

The Otsego County Sheriff’s Office arrested 31-year-old Nicholas McDonald of Oneonta following the investigation into a suspicious person complaint in the Town of Milford. McDonald is accused of possessing a catalytic converter that had been stolen from a vehicle in Milford, he was charged with criminal possession of stolen property, auto stripping, criminal mischief, criminal tampering, trespassing, resisting arrest, obstruction to governmental administration, possession of burglar tools and false impersonation, He was remanded to the Otsego County Correctional Facility pending future court action.
On February 24th, 2022, Delaware County Sheriff's Deputies responded to the Town of Walton residence of Joseph Hahn, to assist members of the Delaware County Probation Department with a home visitation, where it was discovered that Hahn was found to be in possession of Suboxone without a prescription. this week, lab test results confirmed the substance was Suboxone, Deputies arrested Hahn and charged him with Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance, Hahn was issued an appearance ticket and is scheduled to appear in the Town of Walton Court on a later date.

State Police arrested 40 year old Joshua Condon of Hartwick for Predatory Sex Assault Against a Child in 2 different counties, after it was reported to State Police that Condon raped and sexually abused two victims under the age of 13 on multiple occasions. Condon was remanded to the Otsego County Jail on no bail, it was also revealed that Condon raped a victim under the age of 13 in Delaware County, 34 year old Jessica Bresee of Hartwick was also charged after investigators discovered that she knew about the sex assaults and did not report them to police, she was charged with Criminal Facilitation in Otsego & Delaware Counties.
40-year-old Anthony Robertson was taken into custody in Binghamton, he was wanted on arrest warrants for murder and kidnapping in Massachusetts. Binghamton police and U.S. Marshals took Robertson into custody Tuesday, Robertson and 35-year-old Anwar Kelly of Binghamton fled on foot, they were apprehended after a brief chase. Police executed a search warrant on a vehicle and at an apartment at 83 Pennsylvania Avenue, they seized a loaded “ghost gun," a stolen handgun, a rifle and ammunition, plus fentanyl and cash. Robertson was turned over to the Marshals Service, Kelly was arraigned in Binghamton City Court and sent to Broome County Jail.

The United States Department of Justice announced 35-year-old Matthew Bormann of Sherburne was sentenced on Wednesday to 10 years in prison and 15 years of post-release supervision for possessing child pornography. Bormann had 3,500 images and video files of child porn on a phone that he was prohibited from using, he was also sentenced to a 10-month consecutive term of imprisonment for violating the conditions of his supervised release by committing new criminal conduct, failing to answer questions truthfully from his probation officer, and failing to successfully complete mental health and sex offender treatment.

The New York Department of State today announced Broome County and the municipalities of Binghamton, Colesville, Deposit and Sanford have received a total of $229,655 in state matching funds through the County-Wide Shared Services Initiative. During this fiscal year, the program is providing a 95% state match of taxpayer savings achieved through the implementation of new shared services. The shared services projects include the Centralized Upgrade of Safety Communications, also, The Village of Deposit also voted to dissolve its court & Police Department & will work with the Broome County Sheriff & Town of Sanford Court to ensure public safety.

The State Health Department reported declining numbers of COVID 19 positivity rates for Tuesday. Over 129,000 tests were conducted, with 2124 positives, for a positivity rate of 1.64%, hospitalizations were down to 1,832, with 310 ICU Patients & 166 on ventilators, there were 19 deaths in hospitals & nursing homes on Tuesday from the virus.
The Delaware County Sheriff’s Office has received numerous calls regarding a text message being circulated which offers $10 off the sale of Delaware County Sheriff’s Office shirts. The Department is Not selling t-shirts, & no one is authorized to sell shirts on behalf of the Sheriff's Office, they advise that people should not open the email or answer the text if they receive one, and they should delete it immediately.
6 year old Trinity O'Connor of Sidney passed away Tuesday following a battle with cancer throughout her young life, Visitation will be held from 2:00 to 5:00 PM on Friday, at C.H. State Police arrested 60 year old Michael McBride of Oneonta for 2nd degree assault, tampering with physical evidence & criminal possession of a controlled substance, following an investigation into a February 24th domestic dispute. McBride is accused using a box cutter on a victim, he left the scene & was apprehended by troopers on State Route 7. McBride was arraigned & remanded to the Otsego County Jail pending court action..
The Chenango County Sheriff's Office announced Modified visitation procedures for inmate visitation beginning on Saturday, March 12th. Visitors are encouraged to make an appointment for visitation by calling 607-337-1967, Monday through Friday during normal lobby hours. Visitation will be on Saturdays and Sundays ONLY, 2 visitors will be allowed per inmate, for 1 hour. All visitors and inmates will be required to wear a face mask in the facility.

The Chenango County Sheriff's Office arrested 27 year old Austin Demuth of New Berlin Saturday following an investigation into a 2-car collision on Lyon Brook Rd in the Town of Oxford. Demuth was charged with Aggravated Unlicensed Operation & other traffic infractions, he had 2 active Arrest Warrants issued by Norwich City Court and he was taken into custody for the warrants. Demuth faces court action in Norwich City Court & Oxford Court at later dates.
Delaware County Sheriff's Office arrested 53-year-old Tina Kerschner of Sidney Monday on an Arrest Warrant for Violation of Probation. Deputies were contacted by the Village of Sidney Police Department that they had Kerschner in custody on unrelated charges. Kerschner was transported to the Delaware County Correctional Facility, where she will be held pending further order of the Delaware County Court.

Broome County Sheriff’s officials are looking for Casey Lyons from the Town of Union, who is wanted for violation terms of probation for Endangering the Welfare of a Child and his Sex Offender Registration terms. Lyons is a white male with short-cropped brown hair, hazel eyes and a mustache and goatee, he stands six-feet, one-inch tall and weighs 170 pounds. The Broome County Sheriff's Office is investigating an accident Tuesday, where 43 year old David Koshinski of Johnson City crashed his pickup truck, which overturned, on Route 12 in the town of Chenango. Koshinski is accused of attempting to drive the vehicle away from the crash scene, he was charged with driving while intoxicated, moving from lane unsafely & operating a vehicle with no windshield and operating a vehicle with no left-side mirror.
State Comptroller Tom DiNapoli released his annual report of schools in fiscal stress or susceptible to fiscal stress. East Ramapo in Rockland County & Newfield in Tioga County were the only 2 districts with significant stress, 21 school district were listed as susceptible to fiscal stress, none of the Districts in the Tri-county area made the list.

The Broome County District Attorney’s Office announced 24-year-old Elijah Burnside was sentenced to 3 to 9 in years in prison, for a 2019 crash that killed 70-year-old Ronald Phetphongsy in Binghamton. Burnside struck Phetphongsy’s vehicle when he drove through a stop sign at the intersection of Chapin and Leroy Street. Phetphongsy was taken to the hospital where he was pronounced dead.
Delaware County Sheriff's deputies arrested 34 year old Taylor Lovette of Amherst for driving with a suspended license. Deputies stopped a vehicle on State Highway 10 in the Town of Delhi on January 16th, operated by Lovette for driving with a headlight out. Lovette’s Driver’s license was suspended due to lack of insurance, he was charged with Aggravated Unlicensed Operation of a Motor Vehicle, Unlicensed Operator, and Operating with Inadequate Headlamps, he was released on tickets for Town of Delhi Court at a later date.
The State Health Department & The Governor's Office reported that over 229,000 people were tested for COVID 19 Tuesday, with 16,519 positives, for a Positivity rate of 7.18%. Patient Hospitalization declined by 519 to 9,335, the number of Patients in an ICU dropped by 78 to 1355 and the number on ventilators dropped to just under 800. New deaths reported by healthcare facilities was 158.

Nasir Azmat began his 60 day jail term, after appearing in town of Sidney Court Thursday. Azmat accepted a plea deal last October in the Town of Sidney court, he pleaded guilty to overdriving, torturing, and injuring animals & was sentenced to 60 days in jail followed by 3 years of probation; he cannot own, possess or register animals during the 3 year probation. Azmat will also be placed on the Delaware County Animal Abuse Registry. Azmat was charged in February 2020 after Delaware County Sheriff’s Office found 20 dogs in deplorable conditions on Azmat’s property, the dog were allegedly used for dog-fighting.
The Chenango County Health Department confirmed the 100th COVID-19 attributed death today. Chenango County Health Department has also changed their protocols to go along with new State guidelines, with an emphasis on home testing & reporting the findings to the Health Department. Vaccine registrations, Home test reporting as well as Quarantine and Isolation information can be found at co.chenango.ny.us/public-health. Chenango County reported 578 active cases, 840 quarantines & 4 hospitalizations.

Former long time WDLA co-owner Amos Finch of Walton passed away Tuesday, following a lengthy illness. Finch was born in Sidney Center, In 1975 he purchased WDLA, and later added stations in Deposit & Delhi, before selling them in 2000. Private arrangements were conducted by CH Landers Funeral Chapel of Sidney, and he will be buried at Highland Cemetery in Sidney Center in the spring. State Police Bureau arrested 50 year old Kenneth Drumm of Windsor for the felony of Sexual Abuse. Drumm was charged after an investigation revealed he had inappropriate contact with a child younger than the age of 13. Drumm was arrested and processed and was turned over to Broome County Central Arraignment and Processing. A full stay away order was issued to the victim.
The State Health Department announced that the Positivity rate on recent COVID testing has been declining. On Wednesday over 356,000 were tested with over 60,300 positives, for a positivity rate now fewer than 17%, patient hospitalizations went down by over 200 to 12,452, ICU patients went up by 22 to 1615 and the number of ventilators went up by 15 to 845, there were 195 deaths attributed to COVID in nursing homes & Hospitals.
Otsego County Department of Health is continuing to see the highest surge in COVID-19 cases since the pandemic started almost two years ago. It is critical that everyone continues with social distancing, wearing masks and getting vaccinated. If you test positive for COVID, isolate for at least 5 days and notify your close contacts. If you are unvaccinated or have not received a booster dose and have been in close contact with someone who is positive you should quarantine for at least 5 days. Contact tracing will continue in certain settings such as schools, daycares, hospitals, nursing homes and other congregate settings. The Otsego County Health Department reports 183 New cases Thursday with 8 hospitalizations, active cases will no longer be reported, as it is not possible to get an accurate number with the current limited contact tracing and case investigation.
