28-year-old Devan Ellsworth of Norwich has been indicted for manslaughter and criminally negligent homicide, for allegedly causing the death of his 20-month-old daughter in August in Norwich. Ellsworth was originally charged with assault following the August 27th incident, where first responders were called to Ellsworth’s home on Henry Street following the report of an unresponsive child, who died the following day in a Syracuse hospital. Ellsworth remains held in the Chenango county jail pending court action.

The Chenango County DPW announced that they will close County Route 37 between County Road 36 & Keach Road in the town of Guilford, on Tuesday May 29th. A Chenango County Grand Jury indicted 39 year old Regina Donovan of Norwich for making a terrorist threat. Donovan is accused of making a threat against a Norwich Middle School employee on March 20th in response to the alleged bullying of her daughter at the Middle School.
The Next Chenango County Free Rabies Clinic will be held this evening for dogs, cats & domesticated ferrets. The clinic will be held at the Columbus Town Garage on State Highway 80 from 6:30 to 7:30 PM.

A Pre-Trial Hearing was held in Chenango County Court today, regarding the murder & arson trial of Ernest Franklin of Guilford, who along with his wife Heather are accused of killing their son Jeffrey & setting the family residence on fire to cover it up. A Pre-Trial Hearing for Heather Franklin has not been scheduled, Chenango County District Attorney Joseph McBride has stated that the 2 will be tried separately, The Trial is expected to begin next year.

Hartwick College will celebrate the 40th Anniversary of its men’s soccer team’s NCAA Division 1 National Championship this weekend. In December 1977, Hartwick College stunned the collegiate soccer world by defeating the defending champion and heavily favored San Francisco 2-1 in Berkeley, California, The festivities will begin Saturday at 6:00 PM at the Lambros Arena, at Hartwick College. A jury has been selected in the trial of Almond Upton. Upton is charged with first-degree murder in the May 2014 death of State Trooper Christopher Skinner. Upton was driving north on Interstate 81 in the Town of Chenango when he swerved from the left lane to hit Trooper Skinner who was standing outside his vehicle during an unrelated traffic stop. The trial will resume this morning.

The Chenango Arts Council announced a 20% increase in funding from the New York State Council on the Arts for the 2016 Broome, Chenango & Otsego Decentralization Grant Program. $129,280 is available to non-profit organizations and artists who partner with an eligible non-profit for cultural initiatives in 2016. Funding is available for grants up to $5,000 each to support Community Arts and Arts Education grants in Broome, Chenango and Otsego counties. Chenango County Sheriffs Deputies arrested 24-year-old Cassandra LaTour and 41-year-old Brett Brooks following an investigation into a reported larceny at a Norwich business. Both were charged with Conspiracy and Petty Larceny for allegedly entering a business with the intent of stealing property. LaTour was also charged with 3rd degree Burglary, Brooks was issued an appearance ticket to appear in the Town of Norwich Court at a later date, LaTour was arraigned in the Town of Norwich Court and will reappear at a later date.
The Chenango Soccer Club is sponsoring a soccer camp August 4th through the 8th at the Chargers Fields on Route 12 in Oxford. Registration must be completed by July 18th to receive the t-shirt. The Chenango county sheriff’s office arrested 24-year-old Matthew Willis of Sherburne for possession of narcotics. Deputies arrested Willis after he was found to be in possession Heroin and Oxycodone Powder during a traffic stop. Willis was processed at the Chenango County Sheriffs Office and is scheduled to appear in the Town of North Norwich Court at a later date.
