The Otsego County Department of Health reported another COVID 19 related death Wednesday. The death is the 62nd reported in Otsego County, the 43rd since January 1st, they reported 52 active cases, with 4 new cases Wednesday, 6 are hospitalized.
The UHS Chenango Memorial Hospital’s Vaccination Team will be at Hidden Springs Brewhouse at 170 County Road 31 in Norwich, from Noon to 4:30 pm. on Saturday administering doses of the Johnson & Johnson vaccine. UHS Spokesman David Finney said that the time to get vaccinated is now:

Delaware County Sheriff's deputies arrested a Level 3 Sex Offender in Delhi Wednesday afternoon for violating the Sex Offender Registration Act. 48 year-old Lyman McCann was charged with failing to report a change of address as required by the New York State Sex Offender Registration Act. McCann is designated as Sexually Violent Offender, he reported a Walton address to the Sheriff’s Office following his release from jail in March, after serving the maximum sentence for sodomy, robbery and unlawful imprisonment, McCann had not been living at the address since April, he was arraigned & was remanded to the Delaware County Correctional Facility without bail pending a County Court bail hearing and appearances in the Town of Delhi Court.

The Town & Village of Unadilla will have their Spring Clean-up Day today. Town residents can bring accepted items to the Town Highway Garage on Martin Brook Road; Village residents can put those items to the curb by 7:00 AM, Accepted Items include White Goods, there will be a $15 charge if those items contain Freon, a maximum of 4 tires, off of the rims will be accepted, no tractor or large truck tires are accepted, and no regular garbage will be accepted.
Delaware County Sheriff's office announced that a tip from a community member has resulted in the arrest of a sex offender for failing to register a social media screen name. Investigators arrested and charged 20-year-old Tyler Dibble of Hamden with failure to register an address change, he is a level 3 sex offender & he is accused of failing to report a FACEBOOK screen name within 10 days as required by the New York State Sex Offender Registration Act. Dibble was issued an appearance ticket directing him to appear in the Town of Delhi Court on a future date.
Delaware County Public Health and will be conducting a single dose Johnson & Johnson COVID-19 vaccination clinic on Saturday May 22 at the Stamford Fire Department, from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM. Initially there are 100 appointments available for this clinic, appointments will be added as needed once the first 100 appointments are filled. Otsego County Sheriff's Deputies arrested 46-year-old Joseph Amato of Treadwell on I-88 in Oneonta for DWI.  Amato refused to take a sobriety test and locked himself in his vehicle; he was eventually removed from the vehicle and placed under arrest.   Amato was found to be in possession of an illegal weapon, he was also charged with obstruction of governmental administration and criminal possession of a weapon as well as several traffic violations & faces court action at a later date.

Chenango County Public Health Department reported 24 new COVID cases since Friday, bringing their total to 3366 since the start of the pandemic, they report 81 active cases, 380 quarantines, a decrease of 64 since Friday, & 8 are hospitalized, there have been 3107 Recoveries & 74 deaths.
On May 5th, Delaware County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to a domestic dispute in the Village of Walton.  Deputies were advised that the suspect, 39 year old William Cooksey of Walton was intoxicated & had left the scene in a vehicle.  Deputies located Cooksey, he was charged with DWI, aggravated DWI and unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle, he was released & will appear in Village of Walton Court at a later date.
Delaware County Public Health announced a Free Rabies Vaccination Clinic For dogs, cats and ferrets on Tuesday May 18th, from 6:30PM-8:30PM at The Deposit Town Clerk’s building at 3 Elm Street; more information is available at 832-5200 or go to delawarecountypublichealth.com.

60% of New Yorkers who are 18 years of age or older have received at least one dose of the COVID-19 vaccine, with more than 1 million doses have been administered over the past seven days.  All New York State mass vaccination sites are now open to eligible New Yorkers for walk-in vaccination on a first come first serve basis. The walk-in appointments are reserved for first doses only with second doses to be scheduled automatically after administration of the initial shot.
Chenango County Sheriff's Department responded to a car & ATV accident on County Road 32 Thursday.  Robert Favorito was hit by a car as he attempted to cross the road on a sharp turn on County Road 32, near River Road Auto, in the Town of Norwich, at about 1:20 PM Thursday, Favorito was pronounced dead at the scene.
Delaware County Public Health reported 2 COVID cases out of 361 tested Friday.  Hospitalizations are down to 4, there were 42 active case & quarantines are down to 72.

State Police and another law enforcement agency issued 444 tickets during last week's Operation Hardhat, where members of law enforcement patrol Department of Transportation and Thruway Authority work zones to enforce work zone speed limits and ensure that motorists are obeying flagging personnel.   The enforcement and educational efforts come as New York State continues to experience a rising number of work zone intrusions, including 3 recent crashes that injured 6 highway workers just last week.  81 tickets were for speeding, 41 for seat belt violations, 135 for cell phone use while driving, & 47 violated the "Move Over" law.  44 Tickets were issued in the Southern Tier Operation Hardhat Zones.
Chenango County Public Health reported 9 new COVID cases today brining their total to 3331 since the beginning of the pandemic.  They have 81 active cases, 422 Active Quarantines & 6 Hospitalizations.  Statewide, the positivity rate dropped to 1.27% Wednesday, the lowest since October 22nd after over 203,000 were tested.  Patient Hospitalization went down to 2,335, patients in ICU beds & on ventilators went down slightly and there were 23 COVID deaths statewide.

U.S. Senators Schumer and Gillibrand will re-introduce legislation to increase the safety of stretch limousines with the Safety, Accountability, and Federal Enforcement of Limos Act, the Take Unsafe Limos Off the Road Act, and the End the Limo Loophole Act. The legislations answers concerns raised following the October 2018 Schoharie county limo crash that killed 20 people.
Catholic Charities will be assisting The Delaware County Department of Social Services soon, to help county renters or landlords with past due rent because of the COVID pandemic.  Penny McKnight of Catholic Charities explains:

U.S. Senator Kirsten Gillibrand announced The Home Lead Safety Tax Credit Act of 2021 to create flexible tax credits worth up to $4,000 to cover the cost of abating lead hazards in paint, pipes, or soil.  the legislation would supplement other federal, state and local lead control programs to ensure clean drinking water for New Yorkers by replacing miles of lead pipes.   The bill is expected to be included in the President's "American Jobs" plan.
Delaware County Sheriff Craig DuMond announced that Delaware County Corrections Officer Paul Moore was named New York State Corrections Officer of the Year by the State Sheriff’s Association.  On June 11th, 2020 Officer Moore was on duty in the staff dining room at the Delaware County Corrections Facility when he observed a fellow officer choking & in distress, he administered the Heimlich maneuver and after several thrusts, was able to dislodge the object, allowing the officer to breath and talk again.  Officer Moore received his award at a ceremony on April 28th.
Delaware County Public Health will be conducting a first dose Moderna COVID-19 vaccination clinic today from 2:00 to 4:00 PM at 97 Main Street in Delhi.  This vaccination clinic is open to all New York state residents or people who work in New York State over the age of 18.  Registration is mandatory at apps2.health.ny.gov, more information or assistance getting registered is available by calling Delaware County Public Health at 832-5200. Public Health reported 8 new COVID cases Wednesday out of 299 tested, active cases are down to 44, hospitalizations are down to 4 and quarantines are down to 90.

A Delaware County Grand Jury has indicted an Otsego County inmate on felony drug and contraband charges following the conclusion of an investigation by The Delaware County Sheriff's Office.    Delaware County Sheriff's Investigators arrested 39-year-old Jessica Palmatier of Afton on a Sealed Indictment Warrant issued Thursday; The Grand Jury has accused Palmatier of 2 counts each of criminal possession of a controlled substance and promoting prison contraband.   Palmatier is accused of possessing more than 25 grams of Methamphetamine and more than 5 grams of Fentanyl within the Delaware County Correctional Facility on December 2, 2020.  Palmatier was arraigned in the Delaware County Court & was remanded to the Delaware County Correctional Facility pending a future court appearance.
Norwich City officials announced that State Highway 12 between Oxford and Norwich is closed due to a NYSEG Natural Gas Leak and power line across the roadway. Officials ask motorists to use County Road 32 as an alternate, as Route 12 is expected to be closed for most of the day.
Chenango County Public Health reported 42 new COVID cases since Friday's report, with 3298 total cases since the pandemic started.  Chenango County reports a decrease in Active Cases to 100; they still have 460 quarantined & 4 Active Hospitalizations.

Chenango County Public Health announced 5 positive COVID 19 tests today.  They report 2510 total cases with 2288 recoveries, there are 76 active cases, 8 hospitalizations and 261 quarantined.
Delaware County Public Health announced that they will no longer collect names or emails for COVID-19 clinics.   COVID-19 clinic announcements will be made on Public Health's Facebook page and press releases.   Registration links for clinics will be available at delawarecountypublichealth.com/covid-19.  Delaware County Public Health is holding a COVID-19 Clinic on tomorrow MARCH 11th, for Essential 1B Workers and People with Underlying Health Conditions 18 and older ONLY, more information is available at delawarecountypublichealth.com/covid-19.

Governor Cuomo announced yesterday that the vaccine eligibility list was increased to include those 60 & older, down from the previous 65+ requirement.  New Yorkers will be able to make appointments through the Am I Eligible tool or by calling the NYS Vaccine Hotline at 1-833-NYS-4-VAX (1-833-697-4829).
The State Office of Temporary and Disability Assistance announced that an additional $15 million is available to help eligible New Yorkers facing a home heating emergency. Households that have already received emergency assistance from HEAP can apply for a 2nd round of benefits if they are in danger of running out of fuel or having their service disconnected when the statewide moratorium on utility shutoffs expires at the end of March, the deadline to apply for both the regular and emergency HEAP benefits was extended until April 30. State Police responded last Friday to a fatal garage fire in the town of Bainbridge.  87-year-old Lloyd Darling of Bainbridge did not survive.  A trooper was dispatched to the fire in a garage on County Highway 38 called in by people passing by.  1 person attempted to put out the flames with fire extinguishers, the trooper used his fire extinguisher, Guilford, Bainbridge and Sidney Fire Departments put the remaining fire out.  The Chenango County Fire Bureau responded to the scene to investigate the fire, which does not appear to be suspicious.  The incident remains under investigation.
Delaware County Sheriff's deputies arrested 2 East Meredith juveniles for allegedly engaging in repeated physical and verbal harassment at the Charlotte Valley Central School in the Town of Davenport.  The Investigation revealed that from October of 2020 through February 4th, the 2 juveniles had repeatedly engaged in conduct that placed the victim in fear of physical injury.  Deputies charged the juveniles with harassment; they were issued juvenile appearance tickets directing them to report to the Delaware County Probation Department at a later date.
Delaware County Public Health reported 6 new COVID cases out of 165 tested Tuesday, there are 120 active cases, 12 hospitalized & 291 in quarantine.   Delaware County Public Health has vaccinated 1,359 people.
