State Police arrested 34 year old Justin Wilson of Colesville for Criminal Mischief, Menacing and Endangering the Welfare of a Child. Wilson got in to a verbal argument with a victim, damaged a television and entertainment center and damaged a vehicle, in the presence of a 2 and 3 year-old. Wilson was arraigned at Broome County Central Arraignment and Processing and released on his own recognizance. An order of protection was issued to the victim.

Hartwick College officials revealed today that 1 of their graduates was a victim of the Schoharie crash that killed 20 on Saturday. Officials said that class of 2015 graduate
Savannah Bursese was killed Saturday in the Schoharie Limousine crash; she earned Bachelor of Arts degrees in both Political Science and Business Administration.
State Police & The NTSB are still investigating the circumstances that led up to the crash.

The Broome-Endicott Swat Team executed a narcotics search warrant for the Broome County Special Investigations Unit Task Force on East Windsor Road in Nineveh
today; they arrested 24 year old Marissa Price of Port Crane for Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance, Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance, Criminal
Possession of Marihuana & Criminally Using Drug Paraphernalia. Officers seized 7 grams of Methamphetamine, 5 ounces of Marijuana, prescription pills, Digital scales
and drug packaging materials as well as 5 shotguns and rifles & $5,188 in cash from suspected drug sales. Price was arraigned in the Town of Colesville Court today and
was remanded to the custody of the Broome County Sheriff’s Correctional Facility without bail.

3 New York State agencies; the Office of Alcoholism and Substance Abuse Services, the Office of Mental Health and the Department of Financial Services, announced a
new program to help ensure all New Yorkers are able to access their insurance coverage for substance use disorders and mental health services. The Community
Health Access to Addiction and Mental Healthcare Project will educate individuals, families, and health care providers on their legal rights to coverage, help them to

The Federal Emergency Management Agency announced today that federal disaster assistance has been made available to New York to supplement state, and eligible tribal and local recovery efforts in the areas affected by severe storms and flooding on August 13th to August 15th. Federal funding is available to state, and eligible tribal and local governments, and certain private nonprofit organizations on a cost-sharing basis for emergency work and the repair or replacement of facilities damaged by the severe storms and flooding in 7 area counties, including Broome, Chenango, & Delaware counties.

The latest Sienna Poll has Governor Cuomo ahead of Republican challenger Marcus Molinaro by a 50 to 28% margin, with Working Families Party candidate Cynthia Nixon at 10% and 3 other candidates with a combined support of 4% & 8% were still undecided. The latest Siena College poll also has incumbent US Senator Kirsten Gillibrand ahead of Republican challenger Chele Farley by a 61 to 29% margin. In the race for Attorney General, Democrat Letitia James leads Republican Keith Wofford 50 to 36%.

This Friday, Hartwick College will celebrate the 75th anniversary of the College's Nursing Program, which has graduated over 1,500 graduates into the profession. On Friday, Hartwick College will host an all-day symposium, after a welcome at Yager Hall, 4 seminars will be offered throughout the morning, at 3:00 PM, the College will unveil a new 11-bed nursing simulation unit housed in Smith Hall and funded by grants from the Clark Foundation and an additional private foundation. Governor Cuomo today announced that the Raise the Age law is now in effect, it removes 16-year-olds who have committed a criminal act from the adult criminal justice system and places them in age-appropriate settings. 16-year-olds who are arrested for non-violent offenses will have the same opportunities for diversion and community-based services as youth 15 and under. 16-year-olds charged with serious offenses will be processed as adolescent offenders in a Youth Part of criminal court and placed in specialized secure detention facilities for adolescents instead of adult jails.

Governor Cuomo announced a joint effort by state agencies to crack down on underage drinking on college campuses and in college towns as the fall semester begins. The State Liquor Authority and the State DMV, working with local law enforcement agencies, will conduct statewide sweeps of locations holding liquor licenses, including bars, restaurants, liquor stores and grocery stores, looking for fake IDs and illegal sales to minors. The combined enforcement effort will begin immediately, Persons under the age of 21 found to be using fake IDs or false documents with the intent of purchasing alcohol can be arrested and have their license revoked for a minimum of 90 days or up to one year. Businesses charged by the State Liquor Authority with underage sales face civil penalties of up to $10,000 per violation, and repeat offenders also face potential suspension or revocation of their liquor licenses.

State Police arrested 32 Year Old Brent Fallon of Endwell for Unlawful Manufacture of Methamphetamine, following an explosion & fully engulfed house fire on Wayne Street Sunday. Broome County fire investigators and State Police revealed that the basement had precursors for the manufacture of methamphetamine. Fallon was arrested and released on an appearance ticket returnable to the town Union Court on September 4th.

Commerce Chenango and the Hamilton Business Alliance will celebrate the 50th anniversary of Rogers Environmental Education Center. Business and community leaders are invited to attend the “Business After Hours” event from 5:00 to 7:00 PM at Rogers Environmental Education Center on Route 80 in Sherburne.

Democratic Party Congressional Candidate Anthony Brindisi has agreed to 6 debates throughout the 22nd district ahead of the November election. The League of Women Voters of Broome and Tioga Counties debate has been scheduled for November 1st at the PBS Media Studios in Vestal from 8:00 - 9:00 PM. The League of Women Voters of Cortland County debate will take place on September 22 at the Elks Lodge in Cortland from 10:00 AM - 12:00 PM. The Hartwick College experience begins today for new students, who began the check-in process this morning & moved into residence halls and attended Welcome Weekend activities and events, to acclimate them to the college environment. State Police arrested 22 year old Christopher O’Brien of Queens Monday for Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance & Unlawful Possession of Marijuana. A
trooper monitoring traffic on I-81 in the town of Chenango observed O’Brien operating a vehicle at a high rate of speed and initiated a traffic stop, troopers located acid,
cocaine, marijuana and other drugs, O’Brien was arraigned & he was remanded to the Broome County Jail on $5,000 cash or $10,000 bond.

The American Red Cross is facing an emergency blood shortage following a difficult Fourth of July week for blood donations; with hundreds fewer blood drives than a typical week and a resulting decline in donations. Locally, Blood drives are being held today in Delhi from 9:30 am to 3:30 pm at the SUNY Delhi O’Connor Center for Community Engagement at 2 Main Street & again in Delhi on Friday from 1:00 to 6:00 PM at the Delhi Rehabilitation and Nursing Center on State Highway 10.

Broome County District Attorney Steve Cornwell announced that 41 year old Miguel Manchion was indicted by a Broome County Grand Jury for the March 16th homicide of 51 year old Lazar Jones in Binghamton. The indictment charges Manchion with 1st & 2nd degree manslaughter, & 2nd degree Assault, Jones died from blunt force trauma to the head for repeatedly being hit in the head with a glass mug.

The Broome County Sheriff's Office has released the names of the 2 people who died in a Motorcycle accident on June 16th on State Route 26 in the Town of Nanticoke. The deceased motorcyclists have been identified as 41 year old Kathryn Schultheis of Binghamton and 39 year old Brandy Lynn of Newark Valley. Deputies said that the operator of the pick-up truck was 35 year old Sarah Robbins of Whitney Point, she was not injured, and the accident is still under investigation.

The Broome County Sheriff’s Office responded Friday to a fatal motorcycle crash in Colesville on Cafferty Road. 57-year-old Keith Bernhardsen of Harpursville was located in a field on the side of the road, he was transported Bernhardsen to Wilson Hospital where he was pronounced dead. Bernhardsen attempted to make a left turn and the motorcycle went off the road into the field.

The City of Oneonta will hold a public hearing this evening at the Oneonta Common Council Meeting at 7:00 pm at City Hall to receive public comments on the City’s community development needs, and to discuss the possible submission of 1 or more Community Development Block Grant applications for 2018. The City is currently considering a grant application for $230,000 for Nick’s Diner on Chestnut Street.

Oneonta Department of Public Service announced that crews will be flushing water mains in the high service area starting 9 am to 4 pm, today. Affected areas include: Homer Folks Ave., Overlook Drive, Suncrest Terrace, College Terrace, West St. Ravine Parkway and the streets north of SUNY Oneonta. Flushing in these areas is expected to be completed this week, with flushing in other areas to continue the following week. Cornwell said Saturday that they were working with multiple agencies & Nicarguan authorites to return Tercero to Binghamton to face trial.

The Delhi Girls Basketball team won their 1st title in School History Sunday with a thrilling 54-51 overtime win over Franklinville, at the Hudson Valley Community College in Albany. Delhi was 3 points down with 5 seconds to go in regulation, when senior Logan Bruce hit a 3 pointer at the buzzer to send the game into Overtime, WCDO Sports Director Nate Lull & Color Man Dave Smith with that call:

Jennifer Grenchus of Vestal was sentenced Friday in Broome County Court to 5 years of probation, following her serving 11 months in jail, for striking 47 year old Ronald Richardson of Binghamton with her vehicle, Richardson was found pinned underneath. Grenchus' vehicle struck Richardson along Main Street and dragged his body underneath for several yards, before she turned into a parking lot. Richardson died at the scene, Grenchus was impaired by drugs at the time, she pleaded guilty to criminally negligent homicide in November.

The lock-down on the Utica College campus was lifted late Monday Afternoon, with Residential students returning to their dorms, & Commuter students, faculty and staff were allowed to leave the campus last night.  Law enforcement remained on campus last night as they continued the investigation, following the school receiving a report of a gunman on campus, which officials deemed as "Not Credible". Classes were back in session today, so far, no arrests have been made.

State Police arrested 37 year old Lisa Keyes of Fenton for Aggravated DWI with a B.A.C. result of .21%, plus Reckless Endangerment and multiple traffic violations. Troopers arrested Keyes after she led Broome County Sheriff’s Deputies in a pursuit where she was observed traveling in the wrong direction on I-88, I-81 and State Route 17. Troopers went ahead of Keyes on Route 17 in the town of Union where she finally stopped. Keyes was released and is scheduled to appear in the town of Union Court on April 3rd.

State Senator Fred Akshar will be hosting 3 more "Face Time With Fred" town hall meetings on Saturday, March 10th and 17th. Governor Cuomo today announced a 30-day budget amendment that will Prohibit level 2 and 3 sex offenders, whose victims were under the age of 13, from being within 1,000 feet of a kindergarten or pre-K school; Ban certain sex offenders from living in temporary emergency housing or shelters that house families; and Require the Commissioner of the Department of Corrections and Community Supervision to obtain a list of schools from the State Department of Education, and distribute that list to probation and parole departments to ensure sex offenders stay away from those locations.

After a bounce in January, Governor Andrew Cuomo’s favorability & job performance ratings all fell by double digits this month, according to a new Siena College poll of New York State registered voters. Cuomo’s favorability rating is 53%, down from 62% last month, and his job performance rating went down to 45% from 50% in January.

State Police arrested 27-year-old Chase Degraw from Deposit for Menacing, after troopers responded to a dispute in Deposit. Degraw allegedly displayed a handgun at the female victim, he was arraigned, posted bail, & was released on his own recognizance with an order of protection was issued. Later that day Degraw was arrested again, for Criminal Contempt, to the same home and violated the order of protection by attempting to communicate with the victim inside. DeGraw was arraigned and was remanded to the Broome County Jail on $5,000 cash bail or $10,000 bond.

State Comptroller Tom DiNapoli issued an audit that Reveals Issues Behind Broome County's Fiscal Stress. From 2014 through 2016, Broome County depleted its fund balance to dangerously low levels jeopardizing public services and long-term infrastructure investments, DiNapoli recommended that the county stop using the fund balance to finance recurring expenditures; Develop a fund balance policy that establishes a reasonable amount of fund balance, reduce or eliminate reliance on short-term borrowing; & Adopt balanced budgets. State Police & the State Liquor Authority conducted an Underage Drinking Enforcement Detail in Broome County; for businesses that sell alcoholic beverages in Broome County. 9 establishments were checked, 4 sold alcohol to an underage operative. Police charged 49 year old Meredith Bahr of Candor, 22 year old Sarah Kamide of Vestal, 33 year old Maria Bales of Vestal, & 25 year old Victoria Harting of Windsor, All 4 were issued tickets to appear in court at a later date.

SUNY Broome Community College, the Otsego Chamber of Commerce and CDO Workforce are seeking unemployed persons to enroll in the Manufacturing Basics Training Program. A $75,000 Department of Labor award was granted to the College that will enable unemployed persons to gain manufacturing skills, with the 2-week program beginning March 6th through March 16th. The Broome County Sheriff’s Office arrested 37 year old Jared Meek, after Deputies responded to a complaint of a vehicle driving on the Brandywine Highway with significant front end damage and no front tire left on the rim. officers stopped Meek's vehicle on Chenango Bridge Road in the Town of Chenango, Meek is accused of driving while intoxicated with a Blood Alcohol Content of 0.16%, twice the legal limit. The investigation accuses Meek of hitting a utility pole in the City of Binghamton and leaving the scene, Meek was processed at the Broome County Sheriff’s Office and given an appearance ticket to appear before the Town of Chenango Court at a later date.

State Senator Fred Akshar released his latest Community Voice Survey online and by mail to poll the community on various issues facing constituents. Over 100,000 households across the 52nd District will be receiving the survey in the mail, which can be returned by mail after completion. The survey can be completed online at Akshar.NYSenate.Gov.

The Broome County Special Investigations Unit Task Force executed a search warrant at 74 Park Avenue on Wednesday. Investigators seized crack cocaine, heroin, 40 envelopes of heroin packaged for sale, suboxone strips and $917 in suspected drug sales. Police charged 46-year-old Floyd Crockett of Binghamton with multiple counts of criminal possession of a controlled substance, Crockett is being held at the City of Binghamton Police Department awaiting arraignment.

State Police arrested 46 year old Joseph Fassett of Binghamton, for felony Aggravated Unlicensed Operation and several other traffic violations. Troopers observed Fassett speeding, and failing to dim his headlights, a computer check showed that he was suspended 16 times in New York on 10 different dates. Fassett was arraigned and was remanded to the Broome County Jail with no bail set. His next court date in the town of Maine is on February 28th...

Lieutenant Governor Kathy Hochul attended the ribbon cutting this morning at the Dick's Sporting Goods Regional Distribution Facility, located at 1314 Conklin Road Conklin...the facility is expected to add 450 jobs to the Broome County Economy.

The Federal Energy Regulatory Commission has declined to over-rule New York State’s denial of the construction of the Constitution pipeline. The DEC ruled that the pipeline failed to meet certain requirements, the federal agency will not over rule the state’s decision. The Constitution pipeline was proposed to run from Northeast Pennsylvania, through Broome, Chenango, Delaware & Otsego Counties into Schoharie County, carrying gas would could have been tapped into by businesses and communities along the route.

The Sidney United Way recently named ACCO Brands as the recipient of the 2017 “Community Matters” award. The Community Matters Award is presented to an individual or organization that has provided significant support for our local United Way and the Sidney Community. ACCO's Brands 2017 campaign raised more than $30,000 to help support the work of the Sidney United Way.
