New York's annual statewide holiday donation drive to benefit families in need will begin next Monday, Donations of new unwrapped toys, new and gently used coats, and new school supplies are requested to assist community-based organizations during the holiday giving season. The local drop-off locations will collect donations from November 18 through December 13th at the Binghamton State Office Building - 44 Hawley Street, or at the Homer Folks Facility at 28 Hill Street, Oneonta

The Southern Tier 8 Regional Board is hosting the 1st State Infrastructure Summit: Building a More Resilient Southern Tier, where federal, state and regional leaders address the infrastructure needs of the 14-county Central and Southern Tier Regions. About 200 local, state and federal partners, are participating from 8:30 a.m. To 4:00 p.m. at the Doubletree Hotel, in Binghamton.
The Southern Tier Chapter of the American Red Cross will be hosting its 15th Annual Real Heroes event this morning at the Binghamton DoubleTree Hotel at 8:30 AM. Participating sponsors and donors will be handing out awards to recipient “heroes”, ranging from a 9-year-old who safely evacuated other members of her family during a rapidly progressing home fire, to a high school student and school resource officer who saved the student’s mom when she showed signs of a stroke, to a Firefighter who, while on his way to his own retirement party, coordinated the rescue of occupants of a car submerged in water, Awards will be presented in 12 categories.

Rural Health Network of South Central New York will hold their 25th Anniversary Celebration Event next month. “Mash it Up on a Monday,” is open to the public by advance ticket sales only and will be held on Monday, October 16th, 5pm – 7:30pm at the DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel. Broome County Sheriff's Deputies responded Monday in the Town of Fenton for a Burglary complaint. The homeowner had found an unknown man in a 2nd floor room around 1:30 AM, the intruder left on foot, a laptop computer and several other electronics were missing from his residence, a downstairs window was left ajar with the screen ripped out. Deputies apprehended an individual with the stolen items in a drawstring bag, 24 year old Mitchell Paul of Binghamton, was charged with Burglary, Grand Larceny, Criminal Possession of Stolen Property & Criminal Mischief, he was taken to Central Arraignment and is currently being held at the Broome County Correctional Facility. Later that morning Deputies responded to a separate Burglary complaint in the Town of Fenton, where various items were stolen, they discovered that those items were in Mitchell Paul's drawstring bag, he was additionally charged with Burglary.

Elected officials will be sworn in for a new term on Sunday, January 1st. Governor Hochul will be sworn in at 2:00 PM Sunday at the Empire State Plaza in Albany, Sheriff-elect Fred Akshar and the Broome County Legislature will be joined by hundreds of family and friends for a special Joint Swearing-in Ceremony at the DoubleTree in Binghamton on Sunday at 1:00 PM. Akshar passed on running for re-election to the State Senate, in order to return to Law Enforcement.

Broome County District Attorney Michael Korchak announced that 32 year old Kyle Finch of Binghamton, was sentenced to 1 to 3 years in state prison after failing to register as a sex offender for the second time. Finch failed to provide an address change to local law enforcement from 2019 through 2021, as required by state law, Finch was convicted in 2016, in Chenango County, of Disseminating Indecent Material to a Minor, he was designated as a Level 2 Sex Offender.

The Oneonta Police Department is seeking public help in the murder on May 30th of 24 year old Kaleb O'Neill of Oneonta. O’Neill was found with stab wounds in the alley near 6 Dietz Street, he was declared dead after being transported to A.O. Fox Hospital. Anyone with additional information on the investigation is asked to contact the Oneonta Police Department Detective Division at 607-432-1111.

State Police arrested 44-year-old Kevin Roof of Binghamton, for 2nd degree Burglary. After consultation with Chenango County District Attorney Joseph McBride, State Police arrested Roof after his release from the hospital where he had been treated for a non-life threatening gunshot wound to his upper leg, which he received during the course of his criminal conduct in the town of Afton on Algerine street on January 30th. Roof was arraigned and was remanded to the Chenango County Jail on $50,000 cash bail, $500,000 property bond pending future court action in Afton Town Court. 34-year-old James Fletcher was also charged with 2nd degree burglary in connection with this case, the investigation is continuing. Anyone with information is requested to contact State Police at 561-7400.
Reclaim New York will hold a Kick-Off reception at the Binghamton Doubletree at 5:30 pm today; a presentation on the Affordability Crisis in the Southern Tier is scheduled. Reclaim New York is a non-profit organization concerned with affordability, transparency, and education in the State.

State Police at Binghamton responded to a 3 vehicle accident with a fatality on Interstate 81 northbound; near exit 2, in the Town of Kirkwood Thursday 37 year old Clever Agudo of Flushing was driving a tractor trailer when he struck the rear end of a Chevrolet Cobalt driven by 27 year old Kyle Shaffer of Endicott. Shaffer’s car struck the rear of a conversion van being driven by Theresa Mandigo, of Fort Edward, and then went off the shoulder of the roadway. Shaffer was pronounced deceased at the scene, no other injuries were reported, the investigation is continuing.

State Police & Vestal Police arrested 21 year old Kenneth Godfrey of Binghamton for Criminal Sale of a Controlled Substance and Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance with intent to sell. Members of CNET and the Vestal Police Department executed a search warrant on Godfrey, his vehicle and residence last Wednesday, seizing 371 envelopes of heroin, & cash. Godfrey was arraigned in City Court and remanded to the Broome County Jail without bail.
