State Police arrested 25 year old Andrew Carnrike of Smyrna for the felony Assault, plus Criminal Obstruction of Breathing and 2nd degree Harassment, after troopers responded to a dispute on East Main Street in Smyrna. Carnrike allegedly pushed & grabbed the vicitm by the throat and followed the vicitm to a neighbor’s home, Carrike is also accused of assaulting the neighbor, causing injuries. Carnrike was located, arrested & was arraigned in the Town of Smyrna Court and was remanded to the Chenango County Jail on $10,000 cash bail, he faces court action on Thursday.

Governor Andrew Cuomo announced Thursday that $30 million dollars will go towards developing infrastructure and testing facilities for drones. The money will be used to create a 50-mile flight traffic management system between Syracuse and Griffiss International Airport in Rome, which will feature sensors and other equipment to assist in the research and development of an infrastructure for these aircraft. The FAA is expected to allow for more drones to be for aerial photography, and educational purposes. Governor Cuomo hopes to have the new airstrip up and running by 2018.

State Police arrested 21 year old Andrew Benjamin of Binghamton, for petty larceny, resisting arrest and criminal mischief, after a trooper responded to a shoplifting complaint at a gas station in the Town of Chenango. Benjamin was located walking down the street, he was arrested, & while being placed back inside the troop car, Benjamin became irate and began to physically resist as he struck the outside of the door several times with his head, causing damage to the patrol car.. Benjamin was arraigned in the Town of Chenango court and was remanded to the Broome County jail in lieu of $750 cash bail. His next court date is pending.

Governor Cuomo today announced that lane closures for road and bridge construction projects on New York State highways will be suspended from 6 a.m. on Friday, July 1, to 6 a.m. on Tuesday, July 5, in order to accommodate travelers during the busy Independence Day holiday weekend. Some work may continue behind permanent concrete barriers or for emergency repairs.
John Faso defeated Andrew Heaney for the Republican Party nomination in the 19th congressional district primary yesterday. Zephyr Teachout defeated Will Yandik for the Democratic Primary. Faso will face Teachout to replace Chris Gibson in November.

The statewide unemployment rate decreased from 4.9% to 4.7% in May 2016. This represented the state’s lowest unemployment rate since August 2007. New York’s unemployment rate was equal to the U.S. rate in May 2016. In addition, the number of unemployed New Yorkers also decreased over the month – falling from 476,600 in April to 461,800 in May 2016, reaching its lowest level since October 2007. New York State's private sector job count declined by 19,600, or 0.2%, in May 2016. Sidney Central School will hold their Summer Food Service Program this summer, to ensure that children continue to receive nutritious meals when school is not in session. Sidney Central School will serve children at the Junior/Senior High School Cafeteria, Monday through Thursday from July 11th to August 19th, with breakfast from 7:30 am to 8:30 am and lunch from 11:00 am to 12:30 pm. Governor Cuomo today announced the launch of the New “New York Broadband Program’s Consolidated Funding Application Portal", which is now accepting applications for the Request for Proposals issued on January 8th . The $500 million program provides funding for high-speed Internet access to unserved and underserved areas across the state, Applications may now be submitted through the New York State CFA Portal, and are due Friday, April 15th. Applicants must be able to complete projects by December 31, 2018. Subsequent rounds of funding will be announced throughout 2016.
Governor Andrew Cuomo today announced proposed revisions to the state’s solid waste regulations to increase protections for public health, safety, natural resources and the environment. The proposed changes include measures to regulate previously unregulated facilities, activities, and waste streams within the state’s existing solid waste management program. The regulations will also increase oversight of construction and demolition debris and historic fill, reducing the potential threat of these waste streams to water quality and the environment throughout the state.

State Police arrested 35 year old Andrew Adams of Oneonta for 2nd degree Assault, 4 counts of aggravated driving while intoxicated with children under the age of 16, 4 counts of endangering the welfare of a child, Driving while ability impaired by drugs, plus harassment & several other traffic violations. This arrest occurred after an Otsego County 911 report of an erratic driver on Interstate 88 westbound who crashed into a guide rail near mile marker 33 in the Town of Sidney. Adams had his four children ages 8-12 in his car with him, with No injuries were reported. Adams also became disorderly and punched at troopers during processing. Adams was arraigned at the Town of Sidney court and was remanded to the Delaware County jail in lieu of $7,500 cash bail or $15,000 property bond. His next court date in the Town of Sidney is on February 26th.
