State Forest Rangers & the Otsego County Sheriff's Office conducted a Wilderness Search On December 25 at 6:18 pm., the Sheriff’s Office called for assistance in the search for a patient who jumped out of an ambulance. The ambulance was transporting the 47-year-old unidentified Unadilla resident from Fox Hospital to Bassett Medical Center, Ambulance personnel pursued the patient but lost sight near Walnut and Linden Streets, they searched a wooded area, about 5 hours later, a civilian notified Rangers that someone was pounding on the front door of a house on Linden Street, a Deputy found the patient sitting at the bus stop shelter and drove the patient to the hospital.

State Health Commissioner Dr. James McDonald declared that influenza is now prevalent in New York State, health care personnel who have not received this year’s flu vaccine MUST wear masks in areas where patients may be present. The Department has a total of 17,783 positive flu cases, Outside of New York City, week-over-week flu cases are up 114%, to 3,619. Hospitalizations doubled to 413 across the State. Current influenza information is available at health.ny.gov.

State Police and local EMS responded to a 2 vehicle crash Thursday evening at about 7:00 PM, at State Highway 8 and State Highway 7 in the town of Bainbridge. an SUV driven by 79 year old John Kessler of Afton went through a steady red light into the path of a tractor trailer driven by 61 year old Neal Jorgensen of Guilford, he was unable to avoid striking the SUV. Kessler was taken to Wilson Medical Center, while Jorgensen was brought to AO Fox Hospital Tri-Town in Sidney. Injuries were not life threatening.
State Police announced that Trooper Anna Aulino of the Troop C Margaretville barracks, was released from the hospital Friday, her vehicle was was struck by a vehicle head-on in Delhi on July 11th as she was driving home after her shift, she suffered serious injuries. 71-year-old Roger Hadley of Andes was operating a pick-up truck when he crossed over the double solid yellow line into Trooper Aulino's personal vehicle, he was pronounced deceased on scene.

State Police arrested 29 year old Daniel Nelson of Bloomville for 2nd degree Assault, after Troopers responded to a residence in Cooperstown for a report of a domestic dispute on June 22. Troopers later learned that the other person was checked out at a local hospital and was treated for broken bones stemming from injuries sustained during the argument, Nelson was arrested and later transported to the Otsego County Jail for Centralized Arraignment.
A.O. Fox Hospital will be conducting a routine water flow test of its fire sprinkler system today at approximately 6 pm. The test will last 1 to 2 Hours. Residents in the immediate area may notice a temporary drop in water pressure or a slight discoloration of water during and directly following the testing period. Oneonta Fire Department responded at about 1:30 this morning to a structure fire at 5 Grand Street. An Occupant in 1 of the apartments reported a kitchen fire, crews found light smoke showing from the exterior of the building, they encountered heavy smoke and poor visibility on the 2nd floor, they located the involved apartment and quickly extinguished the fire. The Department reported that all 6 residents from the 3 affected apartments have been displaced and will remain so until repairs can be completed. 1 occupant was taken to A.O. Fox Hospital for evaluation, 1 resident's cat perished in the fire. Assistance was provided by the Sidney Fire Department FAST Team, West Oneonta Fire Department was on stand-by, the cause of the fire is currently under investigation.

4 people were injured in a 2 car crash on State Highway 206 near Bear Spring Mountain Tuesday at about 4:00 PM. Walton Fire and EMS were dispatched they found 2 vehicles with heavy front-end damage, 1 went over the guardrail and down the embankment, 2 patients were transported to Delaware Valley Hospital, 2 others were airlifted to trauma centers by LifeNet helicopters. The road was closed for several hours last night for accident reconstruction & clean up.

State Police arrested 31 year old Pierce Tobin of Oneonta for 2nd degree Assault following a violent incident at the Homer Folks Facility. On May 9th, Troopers, SUNY University Police, and the Oneonta Town Constable responded to a report of an assault, An investigation revealed that Tobin became aggressive after being informed by a staff member that he was not permitted to smoke. Tobin punched the staff member in the face and bit off a portion of the victim’s ear. The victim was treated at A.O. Fox Hospital. Tobin was taken into custody at the scene and was arraigned & was remanded to the Otsego County Jail on $5,000 cash/credit or $10,000 bond. His next court appearance is scheduled for Thursday, The investigation remains ongoing.
Binghamton Police responded to the Salvation Army at 131 Washington Street yesterday afternoon, Officers found a 57-year-old male suffering from stab wounds, the man was taken to an area hospital and was pronounced dead. 37-year-old Michael Brutvan allegedly entered the building and stabbed the victim several times & fled the scene, but was located & arrested. Brutvan has been charged with 2nd-degree murder, the investigation is continuing.

The State DEC announced the acquisition of more than 190 acres in the Chenango County town of Plymouth to Pharsalia Woods State Forest, which will permanently conserve Round Pond and surrounding wetlands and grows the forest to 9,469 total acres. Round Pond and the surrounding wetlands provide vital habitat for several rare plants and a variety of resident and migratory bird species. The driver of the Dodge Ram was transported to Wilson Medical Center, a passenger in the Dodge Ram was airlifted to Packer Hospital. The driver of the Ford was transported to Wilson, the driver of the tractor trailer was transported to a local hospital. DEC Spill Response cleaned up the oil and fuel that spilled. The investigation is on-going.

State Police reported that a Chevrolet pick-up driven by 23 year old Victor Gonzalez-Salazar of Middletown, was making a lefft turn from Crane Hill Road onto County Route & collided with a GMC pick-up driven by 67 year old Leon Boyles of Walton. Boyles pick-up went up an embankment & came to rest on the highway, the Gonzalez-Salazar vehicle ended up in the ditch. Gonzalez-Salazar was taken to Wilson Hospital for non-life threatening injuries, a 27 year old Female passenger in his vehicle was also brought to Wilson, 3 other occupants were checked out at the scene & were released. Boyles was brought to AO Fox Hospital's Tri-Town Campus in Sidney, his passenger, a 54 year old female was brought to Wilson Hospital.

Walton Fire and EMS Responded Tuesday Night at about 7:00 PM to a tractor trailer rollover approximately 2 miles North of the Village on State Highway 10. A fully loaded milk tanker carrying 38,000 pounds of milk had collided with guardrails and rolled onto its side, a NYSEG pole was broken and live wires were on the ground initially preventing responders from getting to the incident and driver. NYSEG responded and cleared the lives wires allowing safe access to the scene. The driver extricated himself from the cab of the truck through a window with assistance from a nearby homeowner, he was assessed by Walton EMS and transported to Delaware Valley Hospital for treatment of minor injuries. Traffic on State Highway 10 was diverted while the scene was cleared, the State DOT, DEC spill response, Delaware County Sheriffs Office and Delhi Fire Department assisted, the road reopened to all traffic and All units were back in service at 11:45 pm

A preliminary investigation determined that a BMW was traveling on State Highway 7 when it struck a Toyota from behind while the Toyota was waiting to turn left onto County Highway 9, the Toyota was pushed into the path of a Chevrolet SUV and they collided head-on. The operator of the BMW, a 76-year-old male was pronounced deceased on scene, it is unknown at this time whether he died as a result of the collision or if he suffered a medical event. The operator of the Toyota, a 24-year-old male was transported to A.O Fox Hospital, The operator of the Chevrolet SUV, a 52-year-old male with 3 children were checked out on scene but not transported. The investigation is on-going.
