Binghamton Police announced that 50 year old Scott Mitchell of Binghamton, was extradited from Florida back to Binghamton, Mitchell was wanted regarding the homicides of Daniel McCloe and Marshall VanOven, on February 3rd in Binghamton. Mitchell has been charged with 2 counts of 2nd degree murder, he was arraigned in Binghamton City Court and remanded to the Broome County Jail, anyone with information about the murders should contact Binghamton Police Detectives at (607) 772-7080

The State Dec announced that Amphenol Aerospace recently paid a civil penalty of $945,000 for violations related to the tampering of weekly sampling reports and submission of false materials to DEC over a two-year period. The DEC began investigating Amphenol Aerospace in April 2022 after being notified by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency of a complaint that the facility had modified sampling practices by removing nitric acid from wastewater, drumming it into 55-gallon drums, and returning it back into the wastewater treatment system after weekly samples of effluent from the outfall had been collected. EnCon Police and DEC Division of Water employees inspected the facility, Amphenol has instituted procedures to avoid potential recurrences.

Over 300 members of the International Association of Machinists & Aerospace Workers local 1529 voted to approve a new 3 year Contract from Amphenol of Sidney this afternoon. Union Representative Kevin Weidman told WCDO News the issues of sick leave, & wage increases were included and the 2 tier system has been altered & will be phased out. 3rd shift workers will return to work at the Sidney facilities at 11:00 PM tonight.

Amphenol officials announced that they were committed to making sure that their employees are well compensated & they were surprised that the recent contract proposal was rejected in Saturday's vote, after weeks of discussions and intensive negotiations, with representatives of the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers Local 1529. Union Representative Kevin Weidman told WCDO News why 80% of the union members that voted, voted to strike:

The International Association of Machinists & Aerospace Workers Local #1529 voted on Saturday to strike against Amphenol in Sidney following the latest 3 year contract proposal. The vote was held Saturday morning at the Sidney School District, picket lines have been set up at the Amphenol plants. The Union's Website stated that the 700 striking workers are looking for a contract that improves healthcare and paid sick leave benefits, and eliminated the two-tier wage system currently in place.

State Police released the names of the people involved in a 2-car Head-On crash in the Town of Columbus Saturday. 27 year old Bradley Prosser of Sherburne was the driver of the first vehicle that crossed into the opposing lane and crashed head on into a 2nd vehicle. Prosser was pronounced dead at the scene, he had a .23 BAC according to the autopsy report. Prosser’s passenger, 26 year old Tasha Carney of Edmeston suffered minor injuries from the crash. The driver of the 2nd vehicle was 46 year old Shannon Donnelly-Travis of Schuyler Lake; she was airlifted to Upstate Medical Center in Syracuse, for a fractured arm and leg.

State Senator Fred Akshar continued the 2nd year of his "Akshar's All-Stars" student recognition program on Tuesday by recognizing students at 4 school districts. At the Harpursville High School, Akshar recognized senior Colin LaDue for his leadership, dedication and many contributions to his school and community. At the Afton High School, Akshar recognized sophomore Logan Ives for her selfless devotion to charity and giving back to others in need. At Bainbridge-Guilford High School, Akshar recognized senior Tannar Cliffe for his kindness and dependability both in and out of school. At DCMO BOCES in Norwich, Akshar recognized senior Destin Foley for his energy and dedication to both his academic studies and to helping others in the classroom.

Firefighters from Sherburne & 2 other local departments responded to a fire at Crandall's Auto on Blanding Road in Sherburne last night at about 8:30 PM. No injuries were reported, the building was completely destroyed; investigators are trying to determine how that fire started.

The Chenango Arts Council's 2019 Grants for Teachers application deadline has been extended until this Friday, December 21st. The Program provides up to $500 to K-12 teachers in Chenango County who find innovative ways to integrate the arts into the regular school curriculum through projects that are not covered by the school budget. Delaware County Sheriff’s Deputies arrested 40 year old Brenna Talbot of Walton for Aggravated Unlicensed Operation 3rd degree following a traffic stop on County Highway 21 in the Town of Franklin. Talbot was additionally charged with unlicensed operator, operating without a headlight. She was released on tickets returnable to Franklin Town Court at a later date.

Empire State Development announced that Amphenol Aerospace in Sidney will construct a 5-megawatt solar farm on its industrial campus. The solar farm will utilize a large land site in the Village that would otherwise be unusable because it is located in a floodplain, will provide power to the rest of Amphenol’s operations and will promote stability of the electrical supply as the power generated goes back into the grid-especially during peak usage periods in the summer.
