State Police arrested 26 year old Ryan Gregory of Coram, Wednesday following a neighbor dispute that resulted in a man shot on Houghtaling Hollow Road in the Town of Meredith, Gregory allegedly shot the victim and 2 unoccupied vehicles. A 57-year-old male from Meredith sustained non-life threatening injuries and went to A.O. Fox Hospital in Oneonta, he was later transported to Albany Medical Center for further treatment. Troopers located Gregory at his local residence where he was in possession of firearms and refused commands to surrender, after several hours, Gregory surrendered and was charged with Attempted Murder, Criminal Use of a Firearm & Additional charges are likely. Gregory was processed then transported to the Delaware County Jail for Arraignment.

A Troy New York man wanted as a suspect in a shooting investigation was apprehended by the Broome County Sheriff’s Strategic Response Group and taken into custody within 5 minutes of his vehicle triggering a license plate reader in the City of Binghamton. On Wednesday, local law enforcement received an Attempt to Locate bulletin from the Watervliet Police Department regarding a possibly armed male suspect and vehicle wanted in relation to a shooting investigation in Watervliet. The vehicle was located in Binghamton, a traffic stop was conducted at a fast food drive through lane the unidentified suspect was taken into custody, members of the Watervliet Police took custody of the suspect and he was returned to answer for his charges.
Attorney General Letitia James today announced that 74 year old Miles Marshall of Hamilton was sentenced to 4 to 12 years in prison for operating a Ponzi scheme that fraudulently stole more than $50 million from 988 investors in Madison County and other nearby counties. Marshall convinced unsuspecting clients to invest millions of dollars into his so-called "Eight Percent Fund," claiming that their funds would be primarily used for real estate investments, Instead, Marshall used the funds to pay investment returns to prior investors, cover the expenses of his other businesses, and to fund shopping trips, vacations, and restaurant visits. Marshall's scheme lasted three decades, and in April, he pleaded guilty as a result of investigation.

State Police arrested 52 year old Jonathan Menhennett of Oneonta after a dispute at a residence in the town of Oneonta. Menhennett allegedly menaced a victim & made threats with 2 knives, the victim sustained injuries but did not wish to be transported to a hospital. Menhennett was charged with 2 counts of Menacing, Criminal Possession of a Weapon, he was processed & was transported to the Otsego County Jail for Centralized Arraignment.
State Police arrested 47 year old Brendan Murphy of Oneonta after he violated an Order of Protection & was charged with Criminal Contempt. Troopers responded to a report of a violation of an Order of Protection in Oneonta, the victim, who is a protected party, was invited inside Murphy's residence, a verbal argument turned physical, the victim left, called 911 & was transported to A.O. Fox Hospital for treatment. Murphy had a previous conviction for Criminal Contempt, elevating his charges to a felony. Murphy was processed & turned over to the Otsego County Jail for Arraignment
Testing from the recent stomach illnesses in the Broome County Correctional Facility has confirmed that the cause was Salmonella infection. On Monday, incarcerated individuals began reporting symptoms of nausea, vomiting, diarrhea and headaches to medical staff, over 300 individuals reported similar symptoms over the next 2 days. Results returned on Wednesday have confirmed that the illness stems from a food-borne bacterial Salmonella infection. Correctional Facility medical and housing staff and officials from the Broome County Department of Health and Broome County Office of Emergency Services, are treating inmates, Salmonella bacteria usually stems from contaminated foods, including beef, poultry, seafood, milk or eggs & unwashed fruits and vegetables. The investigation is continuing.
Former Marcy Correctional Facility sergeant Glen Trombley pleaded guilty to offering a false instrument for filing and reckless endangerment in connection to the death of inmate Robert Brooks, He was sentenced to 2 years in the Oneida County jail.

47 year old Thomas Grimsley of Oneonta man faces 20 years to life in prison after pleading guilty to predatory sexual assault for assaulting 2 children in Rensselaer County. Grimsley admitted to sexually abusing two children under the age of 11, after the children reported the abuse to State Police, he faces sentencing on July 20.

State Police arrested 40 year old Shawn Kerwin of Windsor for Aggravated Driving While Intoxicated with a Child Passenger Less than 16 (Leandra’s Law). troopers were dispatched early Monday to a vehicle fire on Old Route 17 in the town of Windsor. An investigation revealed that Kerwin got a flat tire but decided to continue driving, he saw sparks coming from the tire area which ultimately caused the vehicle to catch fire. He and his passenger, a teenager, were able to safely get out of the vehicle without any injuries. Kerwin failed Field Sobriety Tests, He was processed then transported to the Broome County Jail for Arraignment.

An investigation determined that 76 year old Patricia Howard of Sidney, was operating an SUV on County Highway 48 and began making a left turn onto State Highway 28 when she failed to observe a Motorcycle driven by 57 year old Gabriel Mizrahi of Syosset, he was transported to A.O Fox Hospital & was airlifted to a trauma center but succumbed to his injuries. The investigation is on-going.

State Police responded to a motorcycle crash with an injury on State Highway 7 in the town of Worcester Tuesday. 27 year old Jacob Sprague of Otego was traveling on Route 7 in the town of Worcester when he exited the roadway and struck a utility pole. Sprague was assisted by civilians in the area until EMS arrived. Sprague was transported by Lifenet to Albany Medical Center for further treatment. The investigation is on-going.

The Intensive Crisis Stabilization Center is now open and it will be one of only 12 such centers in New York State, they provide on-site care for people experiencing mental health or substance use crises, offering stabilization services for up to 24 hours. The center is for residents in the Mohawk Valley area counties, including Otsego County.
A new poll from Sienna Research Institute shows that Governor Hochul's lead over Nassau County Republican Bruce Blakeman increased by another 3%, in the race for New York Governor. Hochul had 49% of prospective voters, while Blakeman had 33%.

Otsego County Sheriff's Office arrested 54 year old Shelley Wilkerson of Worcester for Overdriving, torturing and injuring animals and failure to provide sustenance following an investigation into a report of an elderly Great Dane that was dying or deceased at Wilkerson's residence. Deputies found the Great Dane was located outside, the Investigation revealed that Wilkerson allegedly failed to provide proper veterinary care to the dog, which resulted in the dog's death. Wilkerson was arrested and was issued an Appearance Ticket to Town of Worcester Court at a later date.

New York lawmakers passed a third budget extender Monday to keep state government running and employees paid as budget negotiations, continue in Albany. The stalemate continues due to issues like the state’s climate law, auto insurance reform, education and housing. The budget was due April 1st & has been late the last 5 years.
Greater Opportunities of Broome and Chenango County, recently won the bid from the Norwich School District to purchase Flanagan Field on Plymouth Street in Norwich, they plan to build a $9 million multi-unit apartment project for low-income housing at the site. The sale of the parcel has to be approved by voters in the Norwich School District when they vote on the district budget on May 19th in the Norwich City School District Office, 89 Midland Drive in Norwich.

Upon arriving, units found a 2 1/2 story farm house with smoke & flames showing, by 3:00 pm the fire was under control, the structure was a total loss and 1 nearby structure was saved, No injuries were reported to the 3 residents or firefighters, mutual aid was provided by several area Fire Departments.

It is alleged that Kovack and Kilts unlawfully went on the property of the victim, stole, and damaged items. Kovack and Kilts were arrested and released on appearance tickets to appear in the Town of Sherburne Court at a later date.

The Joint Investigation accuses Kersman of misappropriation of funds while serving as the Town of Decatur Supervisor from the Town Budget. Kersman allegedly paid himself an additional salary from the town budget that he did not have approval from the board to do so, in the amount of about $2,000. Student artwork from across Chenango County will be featured in the Mariea Brown and Raymond Loft Galleries. The State Girl's Wrestling Tournament was held at the MVP Arena in Albany Thursday, Sidney High School Sophomore Bella Phelps took 1st Place Honors in the 114 pound weight class, beating her opponent 11 to 1 in the Championship Match. Delaware County Sheriff’s Deputies arrested 30-year-old Daniel Roe of Davenport, who is accused of subjecting a juvenile to sexual contact in May 2024. Roe was also alleged to have subjected another juvenile to inappropriate sexual conversations during the same time frame. Investigators arrested Roe on 2 counts of Endangering the Welfare of a Child, 1 count of Forcible Touching, 1 count of Sexual Abuse, Roe was arraigned & Orders of Protection were issued for the victims. Roe was later released on his own recognizance and was directed to appear at the Town of Davenport Court at a later date to answer the charges.

Otsego County Sheriff's Office arrested 19 year old Dayton Carney of Pittsfield, for Assault & Endangering the Welfare of a Child, following an investigation into an assault complaint in the Town of Milford. Carney was arrested and processed & was turned over to Corrections Staff to await arraignment, he will appear in the Milford Town Court at a later date.

State Police arrested 26 year old Clayton Carley & 60 year old Jeffrey Carley of Homer on a variety of charges for Criminal Possession of controlled substances & firearms. In August 2024, State Police responded to a burglary complaint involving the larceny of a dirt bike in Oswego County, last week it was for sale on Facebook Marketplace by Clayton Carley, Investigators interviewed him, he stated the dirt bike had been sold. Troopers executed a search warrant the Carley residence and retrieved handguns, assault weapons, A loaded shotgun, high-capacity ammunition feeding devices, materials for growing & processing cannabis, Cash in excess of $5,000 & A stolen 2024 motorcycle. Both men were processed & were transported to the Cortland County Jail for Centralized Arraignment.

35 year old Benjamin Keeney of Binghamton, was sentenced today in Broome County Court to 4 years in State Prison following his conviction for Criminal Contempt. Keeney violated an Order of Protection by going to the victim’s home. The investigation was conducted by the Binghamton Police Department.

The Chenango County Sheriff’s Office arrested 37 year old Zackery Kulas of Syracuse following an extensive investigation into a fatal motor vehicle accident that occurred in the Town of Sherburne on July 4, 2025. Kulas has been charged with 2nd degree Manslaughter, Leaving the Scene of a Fatal Motor Vehicle Accident, and Tampering with Physical Evidence. He is currently being held at the Chenango County Sheriff’s Office pending arraignment. It is alleged that Kulas was operating a motor vehicle eastbound on State Highway 80 in the Town of Sherburne when his vehicle struck 59 year old Jeffery Maxson of Sherburne as he was walking along State Highway 80. The Sheriff's Office was assisted by State Police, the Syracuse Police Department, and the City of Norwich Police Department during the investigation.
Chenango County Sheriff’s Office arrested 42 year old Adam Lee Church of New Berlin following an investigation into a reported domestic incident. Chenango County Deputies determined Church had left the location prior to patrol arrival, they located the victim and transported them to a secure location at the Chenango County Sheriff’s Office to obtain a detailed statement. Deputies later located and arrested Adam Lee Church, for Rape, Unlawful imprisonment, Criminal Obstruction of Breathing or Blood Circulation, plus Harassment, Church was arraigned and was remanded to the Chenango County Correctional Facility on $10,000 cash bail, a temporary Order of Protection was also issued. Church is scheduled to appear in the Town of New Berlin Court at a later date.
Scammers are impersonating Broome County Sheriff’s detectives and deputies to solicit money and gift cards from unsuspecting victims. Residents are reminded not to provide credit card or other payment information over the phone to anyone claiming to be law enforcement. Residents were falsely informed that their children had been arrested and required bail money paid electronically, that they missed their court appearances and were threatened with warrants for arrest or thousands of dollars in fines. Residents are urged to terminate the call and not share any credit card information over the phone. The Otsego County Sheriff’s Office arrested 32 year old Christopher Barletta of Burlington Flats following a domestic dispute/ child custody dispute in the Town of Otsego on December 25th. An arrest warrant was applied for and granted by the Town of Otsego Court, Barletta turned himself into the Sheriff’s office & was charged on the Warrant, as well as for Endangering the Welfare of a Child & Reckless Endangerment, he was turned over to Otsego County Corrections pending Centralized Arraignment.

36 year old Russell Clement of Oneonta, appeared in Delaware County Court Tuesday & was sentenced to 1 to 3 years in prison for his conviction of Burglary. In July of 2024, a trustee of a house on Charlotte Creek Road in the Town of Davenport was notified by a neighbor of a possible break-in to the house, the trustee noticed specific items missing in the house and a cigarette, where no one had smoked in the house for over 20 years. Gloves were left behind at the scene, DNA results came back with a positive match to Russell Clement. Clement was arrested and admitted to being at that residence and taking items from that residence.

Hunter is already serving a 10-year state prison sentence, he will serve an additional 5-year state prison term, followed by 5 years of post-release supervision. Hunter's latest plea stems from an incident on July 19, 2024, in Johnson City after a woman reported to police that a male subject had a gun, Hunter fired a round through his ex-girlfriend’s apartment door. The Otsego County Sheriff’s Office arrested 34 year old Dustin Henness of Morris following an investigation in to a sex offender who failed to update the New York State Sex Offender Registry of a change in status. Investigators were alerted that a level 3 sex offender was utilizing a Facebook account that was not registered, and was under an alias. Henness was taken into custody without incident, was processed and was held for arraignment at the Otsego County Correctional Facility.

The investigation determined that between March 2018, and October 2022, while serving as the President of the New York State Troopers Police Benevolent Association, Mungeer misappropriated union funds for personal use and expenses, he was arrested at Troop G Headquarters in Latham, he was arraigned and was released pending his next court appearance in Albany County Superior Court on December 1st.

The Otsego County Sheriff’s Office arrested 45 year old Derek Jordan of Milford, 45 year old Keith Blush of Milford & 30 year old Ashley Goble of Milford, on a variety of drug & weapons charges, following an investigation by the Sheriff’s Office and the Otsego County Probation Department. On October 9th, Otsego County probation Officers & Deputies conducted a traffic stop on Derek Jordan, who was taken in to custody on traffic offenses, During a search of Jordan’s residence, Blush and Goble were inside the residence, they were wanted by State Police and the New Hartford Police Departments on warrants. Officers observed a firearm, drugs and drug paraphernalia, Jordan and Blush were processed and turned over to the Otsego County Correctional Facility for arraignment, Goble was issued an Appearance Ticket to the Town of Milford Court, and she was turned over to New Hartford Police Officers. The investigation is on-going and additional charges are pending.
The New York State Department of Health today released a new report showing a continued decline in tobacco use among high school students across the state. The report, shows that 1 in 6 Youth Still Use Tobacco, the lowest since tracking began in 2000. Cigarette smoking remains low, with just over 2% of students reporting current use, E-cigarette use has declined sharply to about 13%, however, Nicotine pouch use is rising, doubling from 1.5% to 3.0% since 2022.

On October 16 at 10:48 p.m., Otsego County requested Forest Ranger assistance in the search for a hunter reported missing by his spouse. The Otsego County Sheriff’s Office, Otsego County Emergency Services, Garratsville Fire Department, Laurens Fire Department, New York State Police, and New York State Park Police and staff all joined the search efforts in Gilbert Lake State Park. Otsego County Sheriff’s Deputy’s located the 67-year-old from Remsen deceased in a tree stand. Rangers used a rope system to help extricate the subject and turned them over to the county coroner, the cause of death has not been released.

25 year old Jacob Brown of Binghamton, pleaded guilty in Broome County Court to Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance, in exchange for a sentence of 8 years in State Prison, followed by 3 years of post-release supervision. On March 26th, Officers conducted a traffic stop on Bunn Hill Road in the Town of Vestal, During the course of the stop and subsequent investigation with assistance from K9 Coco, officers discovered a quarter pound of methamphetamine concealed beneath a child’s car seat, 3 children were in the vehicle at the time of the stop. Brown admitted to possessing the methamphetamine with intent to sell, officers also seized $1,242 from suspected drug sales, Sentencing is scheduled for January 15th in Broome County Court.

The 2025 New York State Fallen Firefighters Memorial Ceremony at the Empire State Plaza in Albany, will be held today at 11:00 AM to honor 126 firefighters who gave their lives in the line of duty. The Memorial was dedicated and unveiled in 1999, there will be 2,818 names on the wall after the ceremony.
On August 19th, Delaware County Deputies were dispatched to a 2-car accident on State Highway 28 in the Town of Middletown, Deputies concluded that 1 of the drivers, 58 year old Jane Rudy of Pine Hill was intoxicated, at the completion of the toxicology results, Deputies arrested Rudy for DWI, Aggravated DWI with a BAC of more than .18%, Failure to Keep Right, among other charges, Rudy was released on appearance tickets for Town of Middletown Court.

A Chenango County grand jury has handed up multiple felony indictments including drug possession and burglary. Valerie Anstey was indicted on 2 counts of 2nd degree burglary and 1 count of falsely reporting an incident, for allegedly entering a Greene residence on August 24th & 25th and filed a false trespass complaint with law enforcement. The driver of the BMW, was issued a traffic citation for failing to stop at a stop sign. The investigation remains ongoing.

Otsego County Sheriff's Office arrested 37 year old Nicolas Martinez of Milford has been arrested for Offering a False Instrument for Filing. Martinez was charged following an investigation into information he provided on paperwork submitted to the Otsego County Civil Office, a background investigation in to Martinez's pistol permit application, found that he intentionally failed to disclose sensitive information required by law for the application, he was processed and released with an Appearance Ticket returnable to the Town of Middlefield Court at a later date.

The Broome County Sheriff’s Office concluded the death investigation in the Town of Conklin that has been ruled a murder-suicide stemming from an ongoing family dispute. On Friday, August 22nd, 65 year old Michael Shuta of Conklin was found deceased in Montrose, Pennsylvania, Shuta’s death was ruled a suicide from a self-inflicted gunshot wound, Police in Pennsylvania and New York believe that Shuta shot his nephew, 41 year old Matthew Slavetskas of Conklin, who was found dead by Officers at his Brady Hill Road residence. Detectives reported that both pistols used in the murder and the suicide were registered to Shuta.
21 year old Joseph Vanblarcom of Middletown was sentenced in Delaware County Court last week to 1 year in prison for Grand Larceny. Vanblarcom admitted that he and 2 other individuals entered City of New York property and stole a DEP owned woodchipper. VanBlarcom was placed on interim probation after his conviction, but he violated his probation when he was arrested for DWI in Ulster County, which increased his sentence to jail time.

State Police arrested 35 year old David Keener of Whitney Point, for 3rd degree Grand Larceny. Troopers accused Keener of using a victim's business account at a local hardware store and making several unauthorized purchases, totaling more than $5800. Keener was located by Troopers on July 10 and arrested, he was processed & turned over to the Broome County Jail for Arraignment.

Chenango County Sheriff’s Office arrested 28 year old Kathleen Brown of Plymouth for Burglary & 3rd degree Grand Larceny, after receiving a larceny complaint of a vehicle. Last Friday the Broome County Sheriff’s Office Road Patrol responded to a larceny complaint at FedEx Freight East, at Industrial Park Drive in the Town of Kirkwood. Security at the facility advised that someone had been stealing from iPhones since April by sneaking them out of the facility in his coat pocket. After reviewing footage, 22 year old Leon Roberts of Endicott was charged with 3rd degree Grand Larceny. On Monday Morning, the Colchester Town Police Department, the Downsville Fire Department and Emergency Squad, responded to a reported motorcycle accident on State Highway 30 & Delaware County Highway 7. Heyward faces Sentencing on August 6th in Broome County Court.
Otsego County Sheriff's Office arrested 33 year old Robert Harris of New Lisbon for 2 counts of Criminal Contempt Friday, following an investigation in to allegations of domestic violence in the Town of New Lisbon. Investigation revealed that during the month of February Harris located a family member at a residence in the Town of Pittsfield and placed the victim in fear for their life by brandishing a baseball bat, he violated a court order prohibiting him from contacting the victim. Harris was located in New Berlin and taken in to custody without incident, he was processed at the Otsego County Sheriff’s Office and turned over to correctional staff for Arraignment.

All occupants escaped without injury, an Oneida County Grand Jury has indicted Alshaman on the charges, he faces arraignment on the Grand Jury Indictment shortly.

A Chenango County Grand Jury indicted Brandon King for 1st degree rape, 1st degree burglary, 2 counts of menacing and criminal obstruction of breathing or blood circulation. On January 17th, in the Town of Norwich, King armed himself with a rifle and then broke into a home, restrained the victim, held a knife to the victim's neck, and strangled the victim.
A State Trooper observed a vehicle off the roadway on State Highway 30 near County Highway 8 in the town of Roxbury Sunday Morning. An investigation at the scene determined that a Jeep Cherokee was traveling west on State Highway 30 when it went off the roadway and struck an embankment. 59 year old Karen Tesi of Grand Gorge was transported to Margaretville Hospital then later air lifted by LifeNet to Albany Medical Center. Her injuries are believed to be non-life threatening.
State Police arrested 26 year old Morgan Hopkins of Cortland for Promoting a Sexual Performance by a Child Less than 17 years of age and Possessing a Sexual Performance by a Child less than 16 years of age. Hopkins is accused of promoting and possessing images consistent with child sexual exploitation. His arrest followed an investigation and the execution of a search warrant at his Cortland residence. The investigation stemmed from a cyber tip from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children. Hopkins was transported to the Cortland County Correctional Facility for arraignment.

21 year old Christian Rogler of the Town of Maine, pleaded guilty in Broome County Court for Leaving the Scene of a Fatal Accident and Attempted Rape. Rogler's guilty plea stems from two separate criminal incidents, last September in the Town of Dickinson, Rogler struck and killed Jamel Smalls of Binghamton, and fled the scene of the crash. Rogler will be sentenced to 2 and 1/3 to 7 years in State Prison, and in 2021, in Johnson City, Rogler engaged in an attempted sexual assault of an underage person, he will receive 3 and ½ years in State Prison, followed by 10 years of post-release supervision. Rogler is also required to register as a sex offender and a final no-contact order of protection will be issued for the victim. Sentencing is scheduled for May 28th.
34 year old Kyle Oakley of South Kortright was sentenced in Delaware County Court to state prison for violating the terms of his probation. Oakley had previously pleaded guilty in 2023, to 3rd degree Burglary because of a forced entry into a seasonal residence during March of 2022, he was sentenced to a 5-year term of felony probation supervision, in subsequent court appearances, he admitted to using illegal narcotics, Driving while intoxicated, obstructing governmental administration and this week, Oakley made further admissions to violating the terms of his probation. Oakley was sentenced to an indeterminate term of imprisonment to last no less than one year and no more than three years.
The Otsego County Solid Waste Department is continuing with the annual Plastic Film Recycling Challenge where Otsego County Schools recycle things like bread bags, Grocery bags Bubble wraps & bring it to Trex Affiliated business where the totals are counted. The investigation resulted in the removal of over 2-dozen animals. 8 dogs, 13 cats and 1 turtle were in need of immediate medical care and were turned over to the care of the Susquehanna SPCA. State Police were assisted by the Otsego County Emergency Services and the DEC, The investigation is on-going, charges are likely.

Chenango County Sheriff’s Office arrested 30 year old Joseph Schneider of Albany & 35 year old Samuel Smith of Hamilton on a number of drug charges, in North Norwich. Due to recent burglaries and larceny complaints Deputies were conducting property checks at storage units, when they observed a suspicious vehicle. Deputies located a quantity of Methamphetamine, packaging material, and a scale inside the vehicle. Schneider and Smith were taken into custody without incident. Both were arraigned and were released on their own recognizance. Schneider and Smith are to appear in the Town of North Norwich Court at a later date.
Chenango County Sheriff’s Office arrested 35 year old Steven Torres-Figueroa of Smyrna for 2 counts of Menacing a Police Officer and Resisting Arrest, after investigation into a disabled vehicle complaint in the Town of Smyrna. Deputies located Torres-Figueroa, who became irate that his vehicle was getting towed for being a traffic & snow removal hazard. Torres-Figueroa went into his residence and retrieved a kitchen knife and began to approach the Deputies and Troopers on scene aggressively and disobey commands to comply. Deputies and Troopers were able to subdue Torres-Figueroa, he was arraigned in Chenango County Court and remanded to the Correctional Facility on $5,000 cash bail while awaiting his next court date.

Walton Fire and EMS Responded Tuesday Night at about 7:00 PM to a tractor trailer rollover approximately 2 miles North of the Village on State Highway 10. A fully loaded milk tanker carrying 38,000 pounds of milk had collided with guardrails and rolled onto its side, a NYSEG pole was broken and live wires were on the ground initially preventing responders from getting to the incident and driver. NYSEG responded and cleared the lives wires allowing safe access to the scene. The driver extricated himself from the cab of the truck through a window with assistance from a nearby homeowner, he was assessed by Walton EMS and transported to Delaware Valley Hospital for treatment of minor injuries. Traffic on State Highway 10 was diverted while the scene was cleared, the State DOT, DEC spill response, Delaware County Sheriffs Office and Delhi Fire Department assisted, the road reopened to all traffic and All units were back in service at 11:45 pm
