Tioga Downs in Nichols will officially open as a full-fledged casino tomorrow. The site was awarded one of the last Casino licenses by the state gaming commission, as another way to increase upstate tourism & development. A New casino sneak Preview is being conducted at the Nichols facility this afternoon, prior to tomorrow’s official opening.
50-year-old Jeffrey Feldman of Worcester was sentenced top 35 years in Prison, after a recent trial & conviction in Otsego County Court. Feldman was found guilty of engaging in sexual acts on multiple occasions with females under the age of 13.
Governor Cuomo announced the 6 winning companies of the 76West Clean Energy Business Competition, which focuses on supporting and growing clean-energy businesses in the Southern Tier. The $1 Million Dollar Grand Prize winner was Micatu of Horseheads; they make an optical sensor that gives accurate voltage readings so utilities can reduce energy use. The $500,000 Award winner was Charge CCCV in Binghamton, which produces energy storage batteries for telecommunications systems and other industries that need storage with longer lifetimes. The $250,000 Award winners was ChromaNanoTech in Binghamton, which produces a dye that keeps windows transparent but blocks ultraviolet radiation, so buildings stay cooler and air conditioning loads are reduced.
Chenango County Sheriff's deputies arrested a town of Sherburne man for DWI and aggravated DWI following a one-car crash last week. 24 year old Branden McDaniel was arrested by the Chenango County Sheriff's Office following a crash on Kendricks Road in the Town of Sherburne on November 24th. McDaniel is accused of operating a vehicle with a blood alcohol content of .18 or higher. McDaniel will appear in Sherburne Town Court at a later date.
The City of Oneonta will have their annual Christmas Celebration tonight. An all day Ugly Sweater Contest concludes at 6:00 PM, at McLaughlin’s at 150 Main Street. The Oneonta Tree Lighting & the Oneonta Santa Claus appearance will be held from 5:00 to 8:00 PM in the Muller Plaza on Main Street.
The annual Downtown Norwich Tree Lighting Ceremony, will be held today at West Park. Santa will be visiting with area children in his igloo at the East Park gazebo, the Igloo will open following the Parade of Lights & will be Friday's from 5:00 to 8:00 pm and Saturdays 1:00 to 4:00 pm during the Christmas holiday season.
The Chenango County Sheriff's Department arrested 21-year-old Matthew DeVaul of Binghamton Tuesday, on a charge of Grand Larceny. DeVaul is accused in connection with a reported larceny of a vehicle from a Town of Afton residence; he was arraigned in the Town of Afton Court and remanded to the Chenango County Jail on $2000 cash bail pending future court action.
The Bainbridge Chamber of Commerce will have their next Business After Hours event today. The Business After Hours program will be held at Nana’s Keepsakes from 5:30 to 7:00 PM, and the Public is welcome to attend.

State Police arrested 31-year-old Zachariah Burns & 24 year old Brandon Burns of Bainbridge, for 2nd degree burglary, following a March 29th report of a burglary to a home on County Road 26, in the Town of Afton. The Burns Brothers are accused of entering the home without permission and stealing guitars and a game system. Brandon Burns had been arrested on May 3rd & he was arraigned in the town of Afton court, he had been remanded to the Chenango County jail on bail, Zachariah Burns was arrested Wednesday & was arraigned in the Town of Afton court, he also was remanded to the Chenango County jail on bail. They face court action shortly.
Governor Cuomo today announced a new I Love NY advertising campaign to promote travel throughout the State’s 11 vacation regions. the campaign includes TV ads that are being aired in New York, New Jersey, Connecticut, western Massachusetts, the eastern and central portions of both Pennsylvania and Ohio and in Montreal, Toronto and Ottawa in Canada. The ads will run through the summer until August 7.
The National Baseball Hall of Fame announced that the 2016 Inductees Exhibit is now open at the Hall of Fame and will remain on display through May of 2017. Chenango County Sheriff’s Deputies arrested 39 year old Arlo Biviano of Norwich for DWI Wednesday, following the report of a one car roll over accident on County Road 29 near the intersection of Tiffany Road in the Town of North Norwich with possible entrapment. Biviano's vehicle left the roadway and overturned over an embankment before striking a light pole. Both occupants escaped the crash with minor injuries. Biviano was processed and released on appearance tickets for later court action in the Town of North Norwich Court.
The Delaware County Board of Elections announced that Friday June 3rd is the last day to register for the June 28th Federal Primary Election. Primaries will be held for Democrats & Republicans in the 19th Congressional District race. Registration forms and applications for absentee ballots may be found online at co.delaware.ny.us/departments, by calling 832-5321 or at the County office in Delhi.

Governor Cuomo announced $20 million to support Binghamton University in its leading role as home to new NextFlex Flexible Hybrid Electronics Manufacturing Innovation Institute. The state’s $20 million commitment, from the Southern Tier’s $500 million Upstate Revitalization Initiative, will support the retrofitting of space in the former IBM facility in Endicott, it is expected to create up to 200 academic and private sector jobs, & up to 1,000 new jobs over the five years of the Flex Tech Alliance Program.
State Comptroller Tom DiNapoli announced today his office stopped $25 million in questionable or fraudulent personal income tax refunds from being paid so far in 2016. DiNapoli’s office paid out 4.5 million state refunds totaling $4.2 billion. Another 152,000 refunds totaling $134 million are expected to be paid in the coming days. The average state tax refund from the state is $840.
Christopher Winkler of Unadilla has conceded the tied race for the Unadilla Village Board seat, to Jeff Jones. Both Jones & Winkler received the same number of votes for the seat in the March village election, leaving local officials looking for answers from county or state election law on how to handle the tie. The race could have been decided with another election, a drawing, or the concession of one of the candidates to the other.
Delaware County Sheriff’s Deputies investigated a personal injury head-on collision Tuesday involving a tractor trailer and a car on State Highway 10 in the Town of Delhi, just south of Peakes Brook Road. The tractor trailer driver, 30 year old Michael Thompson of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania attempted to pull into a parking lot when he struck a car being driven by 56 year old Tammie Wycoff of Grand Gorge. Wycoff and her passenger were transported to O’Connor Hospital with minor injuries and were later released. Thompson was issued a traffic summons for moving from lane unsafely, he faces court action in Town of Delhi Court on April 25th.
The Greater Chenango Cares IRT event will again be occurring in Norwich this summer. The 10 day initiative that will offer no cost medical, dental, optometry and veterinary care for children and adults in our region. The event is being led this year by the Chenango United Way and its volunteers and is occurring because of a partnership between many local health and human service organizations, local government agencies and the Department of Defense. The event will run from Friday, July 15 through Sunday, July 24 and will be held once again at the Norwich High School. Last July, 171 service personnel, both active and reserve service members, came to our community to provide medical, dental, vision and veterinary services as a training exercise and as a way to give back to local communities.
57 year old John Guzy of Bainbridge was found guilty of 15 of 17 counts including 2nd degree murder, attempted murder in Chenango County Court Wednesday, by Judge Frank Revoir. Guzy was found guilty of shooting and killing 26-year-old Derek Prindle of Afton, in October 2014 on route 7 in Bainbridge. Guzy also shot & wounded Prindle’s father during a confrontation following a road rage incident that ended in front of Peak Fitness.
The Broome County Sheriff’s Office arrested 2 people for allegedly manufacturing methamphetamines in the town of Dickinson Wednesday morning. Deputies arrested Matthew Najarian and Jessica Palmatier. For operating a one pot meth operation at a gas station in Dickinson, the gas station had to be shut down for several hours to remove the hazardous meth making materials. Palmatier and Najarian were arraigned & were remanded to the Broome County Jail without bail.

State Police at Binghamton investigated a report of shots fired on Glenwood Road in the Town of Dickinson. During this investigation Glenwood Road was closed to the public between Adams Street and Prospect Street for several hours this morning, the investigation is ongoing.
Chenango County Sheriff’s Deputies, their K9 unit & members of State Parole conducted a “knock and talk” investigation Wednesday at 518 Cummings Road in the Town of Greene. Officers received information of methamphetamine being produced at the residence, they discovered liquid methamphetamine, & several ingredients and laboratory equipment used to manufacture the drug. 47-year-old Glenn O’Connor was arrested for Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance, Unlawful Manufacturing Methamphetamine and Possessing the Precursors to Methamphetamine & for violating Parole. O’Connor was remanded to the Chenango County Correctional Facility. State Police and Village of Greene Police Department assisted with the investigation.
Governor Cuomo, US Senators Charles Schumer & Kristen Gillibrand and members of the New York Congressional Delegation today announced more than $60 million in federal grants to support counterterrorism and emergency preparedness activities in counties across New York State. The funding, provided by the Department of Homeland Security through its State Homeland Security Program and Emergency Management Performance Grant, will assist counties in strengthening emergency response efforts. New York State receives more SHSP funding from DHS than any other state in the nation. Chenango, Delaware & Otsego Counties will each get about $130,000 in funding.

Myers will join Republicans Claudia Tenney and George Phillips as candidates for the seat; Congressman Hanna recently announced that he would not seek re-election.
A Town of Norwich resident was arrested by the Chenango County Sheriff’s Office for 1 Count of Welfare Fraud & Offering a False Instrument for filing. 30-year-old Jessica Branagan of Norwich is accused of receiving public assistance and failing to report additional income she was receiving. Branagan received a total of $36,228.50 in assistance from April 2010 through July 2015.

The Tioga County Sheriff’s Office responded to a tractor-trailer rollover accident on Dalton Hill Road in Newark Valley Tuesday afternoon. The accident occurred at about 2:40 PM, The operator of the vehicle has been identified as 60-year-old Richard Henry of Bainbridge. Henry was pronounced dead at the scene.
State Police arrested 25 year old James Sayman of Harpursville, 20 year old Ian Albrechta of Port Crane, and 24 year old Jordan Ryder of Afton for 3rd degree automobile stripping, after troopers responded to a report of a car parts being stolen from a parked 2004 Lincoln in a residential driveway on Oak Hill Road in the town of Afton. Sayman, Albrechta and Ryder allegedly jacked up the vehicle & removed parts. All 3 were issued tickets returnable to the Town of Afton court on February 29th.

The Otsego county Chamber of Commerce will offer the Leadership Otsego program is accepting applications for the class of 2016.
