Delaware County Sheriff’s Deputies arrested 31 year-old
Christina Townsend of Port Crane for 3rd degree Grand Larceny &
Scheming to Defraud, following an
investigation by Sheriff’s Deputies and Broome Developmental Center staff into
on-going thefts from residents by an employee.
Townsend is accused of engaging in an ongoing scheme while employed at a
Franklin residential facility that resulted in the theft of more than $12,000
from developmentally disabled residents.
Townsend was arraigned at the Town of Franklin Court and was released
upon her own recognizance pending future court proceedings

A Delaware County jury acquitted Jeffrey Hitchcock of Sidney
Center Friday, for charges of sexual abuse & endangering the welfare of a
minor. Hitchcock had been accused of
inappropriately touching an 11 year old female; the jury took a little over 4
hours to find Hitchcock not guilty of the charges.

Delaware County Sheriff’s Deputies arrested 62-year-old
James Decker of Walton, Friday on 10 felony counts for Criminal Contempt and
Aggravated Family Offense following their investigation of a complaint of
on-going violations of an Order of Protection.
Decker is incarcerated in the Delaware County Correctional Facility as a
result of a conviction for Criminal Contempt, is accused of making phone calls
to a protected party in violation of the provisions of an Order of Protection
issued by the Village of Walton Court.
Decker will be arraigned on the charges in the Town of Delhi Court on a
later date.

Delaware County Sheriff’s Deputies arrested 24 year old Kyle Gardner of Franklin for DWI, & Driving with a blood alcohol content of 0.08% or higher, following a 1-car accident in the Town of Franklin, where the vehicle was found to have travelled over an embankment. Gardner was subsequently released on an appearance ticket and scheduled to appear before the Town of Franklin Court at a later date.

Delaware County Sheriff’s Deputies arrested 69 year old Robert Walker of Davenport for criminal impersonation unauthorized use of emergency lights, unauthorized lights, failure to keep right, speed unreasonable and prudent and following too closely & official misconduct. Walker is accused of using a Volunteer Fire Department emergency blue light on his personal vehicle to conducted a traffic stop on another vehicle in the Town of Davenport without official authority to do so. Otsego County Sheriff's Department arrested 21 year old Jared Talbot of Oneonta after an animal cruelty investigation involving pigs in the Town of Laurens. Talbot is accused of overriding torturing or injuring animals and failure to provide sustenance in violation of the NYS Agriculture and Markets Law. Talbot will appear in the Town of Laurens Court on a later date.

Otsego County held its 21st annual Hazardous Waste Collection Day this past weekend, with a Friday event in Unadilla & the Saturday event at the Meadows Office Complex in Cooperstown. Approximately 689 households participated, & this was the 9th year that pharmaceuticals and medications were collected free of charge, with an estimated 175 pounds collected for incineration. A team of local volunteers diverted latex paint from the waste stream and poured an estimated 270 gallons into bulk containers, which will be re-mixed by Golden Artist Colors of Chenango County for eventual re-distribution to local not-for-profit agencies.

Governor Cuomo will debate Democratic Party Challenger, actress Cynthia Nixon in a debate at Hofstra University in Nassau County this evening. The debate will begin at 7:00 PM, Nixon trails Cuomo in the polls by a large margin, and this is the only debate scheduled between the 2 before the September 13th primary. Governor Cuomo and all 31 members of the Senate Democratic Conference called on Senate Republicans to return to Albany to vote to codify Roe vs. Wade into State law. Senate Democrats pledged to provide 31 votes and only need one Republican to vote to codify Roe v. Wade into State law. Governor Cuomo said that the 50-year old abortion law could be overturned by the Supreme Court, following the nomination of Judge Brett Kavanaugh to the Supreme Court, Cuomo said that only 1 Republican vote in the State Senate will ensure that no matter what happens at the federal level, the protections offered by Roe v. Delaware County Sheriff’s Deputies responded Friday to a report of a 1-car motor vehicle accident on Richardson Hill Road in the Town of Masonville. Deputies found the driver, 20 year old Holden Smith of Sidney Center lying on the shoulder of the roadway with an apparent broken leg. Smith’s car was found over the embankment at that location and was found to have impacted a tree head on. Further investigation revealed that Smith was driving to Sidney Center from the Ithaca area at the time of the accident, and that Smith had consumed prescription medications prior to the accident. Smith was later transported to Wilson Hospital for treatment of the injuries sustained from the collision.

Delaware County Sheriff’s Deputies arrested 34 year old Patricia Ware of Sharon Springs for Petty Larceny; she is accused of taking various items from a home that she is a caretaker for in the Town of Franklin. Ware was arraigned at the Town of Hamden Court & was remanded to the Delaware County Jail on $3000 cash bail or $6000 bond. She was scheduled to appear before the Town of Franklin Court at a later date.
State Police arrested 24 year old James Joyce of Colesville for Unlawful Fleeing a Police Officer in a Motor Vehicle & Reckless Endangerment, plus more than a dozen traffic tickets after he attempted to elude troopers while on an ATV. A trooper on State Route 7 in Unadilla observed Joyce on an ATV as he passed an ambulance with its emergency lights activated and over a double solid yellow line. Joyce fled from the trooper, nearly striking a pedestrian. The pursuit was terminated In Bainbridge when Joyce drove onto railroad tracks & he tipped over. Joyce was arraigned in the town of Bainbridge Court and remanded to the Chenango County Jail on $2,500 cash bail or $5,000 bond, pending court action on July 24, 2018.
State Police arrested 33 year old Ashlie Keesler of Downsville for Aggravated Driving While Intoxicated with Child Under 15 or Under as Passenger, & Refusal to Submit to a Breath Test. A trooper on patrol observed Keesler and two children walking on State Highway 30 in Colchester, an investigation revealed that Keesler had been involved in an accident and her vehicle went over an embankment. Keesler and the children were transported to Delaware Valley Hospital. Keesler was arrested and released on appearance tickets returnable to the Colchester Town Court on August 7th.

The Broome County District Attorney’s office announced that 27 year old Thomas Sessions of Whitney Point was arraigned Wednesday in Broome County Court, in connection with a March 23rd attack that seriously injured a Lisle resident. Sessions was located earlier this month in Arizona and taken into custody. The grand jury indictment charges Sessions with attempted 2nd degree murder, 1st degree assault, & attempted 1st & 2nd degree assault; he is accused of striking the victim in the head after knocking on the victim’s door & claiming to have a disabled vehicle.
A new report released Monday by a coalition of New York State law enforcement officials, public health experts and elected officials, showed that The Delaware County had the highest rates of gun-related suicide and homicide. The research focused at the rate of homicide and suicide in each county from 2012 to 2016, the report showed that for every 100,000 residents of Delaware County, there were 13.4 gun-related deaths, & the a rate of suicide by gun at 12.9. Other counties that ranked high were Allegany, Wyoming, Cattaraugus and Sullivan counties. New York State’s overall gun-related death rate was 4.4 deaths per 100,000 residents, which is below the national average of 11.8 deaths per 100,000 residents.
The Chenango County Sheriff’s Office arrested 19 year old Cordell Witherow of Plymouth for 3rd degree Assault. Witherow is accused of causing serious physical injury to an unidentified male victim. Witherow was released on an appearance ticket and is to appear in the Town of Plymouth Court at a later date.
Chenango County Sheriff's Department arrested 24 year old Cara Kaskeski of Mount Vision, for Welfare Fraud & Offering a False Instrument for Filing. Kaskeski allegedly collected more than $9,000 in child care assistance from July 2014 through November 2017 which she was not entitled to receive, she was issued appearance tickets to appear in the City of Norwich Court at a later date.
Antonio Delgado of Rhinebeck won the 19th Congressional District Democratic Primary yesterday; he will face Republican incumbent John Faso in November. Delgado beat out 6 other Democrats to win the primary. The 19th district will be one of the most-watched races in the country
US Postal Inspectors, State Police CNET, Homeland Security Investigators (HSI), Vestal Police Department and the Broome County Drug Task Force made a controlled delivery of a package containing approximately 250 grams of Ecstasy to a residence in Binghamton. Following the delivery, a search was conducted at the home of 32 year old Andrew Davis, A search of the residence leads to the recovery of the package, digital scales, cellphone, & other items, Davis was charged with Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance, he was arraigned and was remanded to the Broome County Jail without bail.
Delaware County Sheriff Deputies arrested 42 year old Patrick Renner Jr. of Stamford for Aggravated Unlicensed Operation of a Motor Vehicle, Operating a Motor Vehicle without an Ignition Interlock Device, Unlicensed Operation of a Motor Vehicle & violating the terms of his probation. Renner is accused of driving a vehicle on Main Street in the Village of Stamford on Thursday with a revoked driver’s license and without an ignition interlock device, from a previous DWI conviction. Renner was arraigned and was remanded to the Delaware County Correctional Facility without bail pending further court action.
State Police arrested 36 year old Jennifer Grant of Westford for DWI, Operating a Vehicle While Registration Suspended, & Unlawful Possession of Marihuana, plus numerous traffic tickets. Troopers stopped Grant while on Otsego County Highway 34 after they observed her cross the center line and drive onto the shoulder. Grant was released to a sober third party and given appearance tickets to the town of Westford Court on July 17th.

Norwich Police and the Chenango County Sheriff's Office announced the arrests of 37 year old Andres Figueroa & 46 year old Lourdes Medina of Norwich on charges of Criminal sales of a controlled substance & criminal nuisance. Police investigated narcotics sales starting in May & they executed a 'No-knock' search warrant at a North Broad Street apartment. Figueroa and Medina were sent to the Chenango County Jail, Figueroa on $50,000 bail and Medina on $20,000 bail, pending action in Norwich City Court on Wednesday.
33 year old Sean Martin of Binghamton was sentenced Monday in Chenango County Court to 90 days in jail & 5 years post-release Supervision, for driving drunk during a 1 vehicle crash that killed his brother. Martin pleaded guilty in April to vehicular manslaughter, and driving while intoxicated, in connection with the September 24th 2017 crash on State Highway 41 in the Town of Greene
Delaware County Sheriff’s Deputies arrested 28 year old Tara Doring of Franklin, on 1 count of criminal obstruction of breathing, 4 counts of endangering the welfare of a child, 1count of harassment & 1 count of trespassing, Doring is accused of being was involved in a physical altercation with another individual while four young children were present. Doring was arraigned and was released on her own recognizance, she is scheduled to reappear at the Town of Kortright court at a later date.
The City of Oneonta is applying for grant assistance through the State DOT Aviation Capital Grant Program for the purposes of replacing the airport’s existing aircraft fuel farm with two new 12,000 gallon tanks in a new location remote from the terminal building. Potts was charged with 3 counts of Criminal Sale of a Controlled Substance, for allegedly selling Hydrocodone on 3 occasions, from her Village of Margaretville residence. Potts was arraigned and remanded to the Delaware County Correctional Facility with no bail; more arrests and additional charges related to this investigation are anticipated.
State Police arrested 53 year old John Nitz of Streamwood, Illinois for DWI, Refusal to Submit to a Breath Test, Leaving the Scene of an Accident and several other traffic tickets. Troopers were dispatched to a 2-car motor vehicle accident in the town of Pittsfield, where a vehicle towing a camper struck a truck parked on Texas Hill Road and never stopped. Nitz was arrested and arraigned in the town of Morris Court; he was remanded to the Otsego County Jail on $500 cash bail or $1,000 bond.
Delaware County Sheriff Deputies responded to a residence in the Town of Harpersfield for a report of horses in the roadway. Deputies found several horses without proper feed and water, as well as a downed horse that had to be euthanized by its owner. It was further determined that the horses had not received any veterinary care for an extended period of time. Deputies arrested 46 year old Eric Palmatier, 24 year old Francis Thomas, 20 year old Amanda Thomas and 19 year old Erica Palmatier, all of Harpersfield, with failure to provide proper food and drink to animals and failure to provide proper sustenance to animals.

Cuda is accused of causing serious injuries to an unidentified person by stabbing the person in the stomach & back on May 29th in Norwich; resulting in the victim undergoing emergency surgery.
Delaware County Sheriff’s Deputies arrested 31 year old Ashlee Calabrese of Walton for 2 counts of Criminal Mischief and 1 count of Endangering the welfare of a child, after deputies investigated a domestic dispute at Calabrese’s residence in the Town of Walton. Calabrese was arraigned in the Town of Walton Court and later release on $1000 cash bail. Calabrese is set to return to the Town of Walton Court on a later date.
The State Department of Transportation will be closing State Highway 12 north of Oxford for a 2-week period for the construction of the Fly Meadow Creek bridge, where they will replace the bridge deck over the bridge which is located between County Road 4 and Turner Street. Officials stated that sometime during the period of July 16 and August 31, 2018, the bridge is scheduled to be closed for an approximate 2-week period; traffic will be maintained through an off-site detour using County Road 32, State Highway 220 and County Road 32B.
Delaware County Sheriff’s Deputies arrested 39 year old Cristal Cartelli of Pineville, Louisiana on an arrest warrant issued by the Village of Sidney Police Department. Deputies were alerted to Cartelli’s active warrant status and presence within Delaware County, she was turned over to Sidney Police Department, and she was arraigned at the Village of Sidney Court & was remanded to the custody of the Delaware County Correctional Facility on $1500 cash bail or $3000 bond pending future court action.
State Police arrested 34 year old Merrill Lamb Jr. of Hobbsville, North Carolina for Driving While Ability Impaired by Drugs. Troopers were dispatched to I-88 in Worcester for a man walking along the interstate, they spotted a tractor trailer on the side of the interstate and the driver told them he got lost then ran out of gas. An investigation revealed that Lamb was under the influence of drugs, he was arrested and arraigned, he was remanded to the Otsego County Jail on $1,000 cash bail or $2,000 bond.
The Sidney Central School Class of 2018 donated the remainder of its class funds to the Delaware Valley Humane Society. The class presented a check to Erin Insinga of the Humane Society following graduation rehearsal on Friday afternoon. The donation from the class was for $1,417.77.
Broome County Sheriff’s Department arrested 33 year old Emerson Ryan of Binghamton after a patrolling deputy observed a vehicle at 71 miles an hour in a posted 45 mile an hour zone. The vehicle accelerated and then lost control on a curve, crashing into the ditch. Ryan was charges with DWI, Driving with a BAC of .08% or higher, reckless driving & speed not reasonable & prudent, among other charges. Ryan was released and issued tickets to return to the Town of Kirkwood court at a later date.

State police arrested Charles Walsh of Sidney on charges of assault, criminal nuisance & unlawful possession of a firearm, & criminal possession of marijuana following an investigation into a domestic dispute in the village of Sidney. Walsh is accused of striking a person & burning a telephone cord to prevent that victim from calling police. The Chenango County DPW announced that they will close County Route 37 between County Road 36 & Keach Road in the town of Guilford, on Tuesday May 29th. A Chenango County Grand Jury indicted 39 year old Regina Donovan of Norwich for making a terrorist threat. Donovan is accused of making a threat against a Norwich Middle School employee on March 20th in response to the alleged bullying of her daughter at the Middle School.

State Police conducted a traffic stop on I-88 in the town of Milford for a traffic violation. Governor Cuomo announced more than $100 million in state funding to repave and enhance roadways impacted by the harsh weather this past winter. The projects will take place throughout the summer and into fall, and will be completed this year. State Senate Democrats want to add an Equal Rights amendment to the state constitution. The proposal would add language prohibiting discrimination based on gender, disability, sexual orientation or identity, the 1938 bill only prohibited discrimination based on race, color, creed or religion. Voters would decide whether to approve the amendment if lawmakers agree to put it on the November ballot.
4 people were arrested on drug charges following the execution of a ‘no knock’ warrant on North Broad Street in Norwich Tuesday. Arrested were 19-year-old Chase Webb of Norwich, 37-year-old Steven Peterson of New York City, 30-year-old Sebastian Catanzaro of Norwich and 28-year-old Christina Banks of Norwich. Webb is accused of selling heroin; Peterson is accused of possessing cocaine and crack with the intent to sell. Catanzaro and Banks are accused of maintaining a place for drug sales. All 4 were arraigned; Webb was remanded to the Chenango County Correctional Facility pending future court action.

Broome County Fire Investigators have determined that it was a space heater that was too close to combustibles in the Skylark Motel Lobby in Vestal on March 14th, which caused the fire that, claimed the life of the owner of the Motel, 79-year-old Dick Patel. Patel & his wife lived above the motel office with his wife, investigators reported that Patel helped his wife get out but he could not make it out of the building, remaining occupants also escaped. The motel was a total loss.
State Police were dispatched to a report of 2 dead goats on property located at 674 County Highway 36, in the Town of Westford Monday. 45-year-old Stephen Pandelakis was charged after police discovered numerous dead animals on the property, including a dog, a cat, a pig, 2 goats, 6 chickens and 2 ducks. Pandelakis was charged with 2 felony counts of Aggravated Cruelty to Animals, and 13 counts of Torturing, Injuring or Failure to feed an animal. Remaining chickens were surrendered & were taken to another person for proper care. Pandelakis was issued appearance tickets returnable in the Town of Westford Court April 4th.
Delaware County Sheriff's Deputies and Hancock Village Police arrested 33-year-old Christen Wrighter of Hancock Monday on a number charges, after a traffic stop. Deputies and Hancock Police started an investigation recently following a number of complaints of people who made advance payments to Christen Wrighter Photography for photographs that she failed to provide. Deputies observed Wrighter speeding on State Highway 97 in Hancock Monday evening, they discovered that she had her driving privileges suspended, she also unlawfully possessed a quantity of the prescription controlled substances, including Oxycodone. Wrighter was charged with Aggravated Unlicensed Operation, Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance, speeding, Scheming to Defraud, Grand Larceny & petty Larceny. Wrighter was arraigned in the Village of Hancock Court and was remanded to the Delaware County Jail on $5,000 cash bail or $10,000 bail bond pending further court action. The investigation is ongoing.
Some of the wealthiest New Yorkers are urging the state to raise their taxes. 80 New Yorkers including George Soros, Steven Rockefeller & Abigail Disney wrote to lawmakers & Governor Cuomo, claiming that they & other top money makers in the state can afford to pay more taxes, in order to help the state pay for infrastructure projects, school funding & programs to help the poor, elderly & homeless. A proposal calls for the all making more than $650,ooo a year to pay more into the state coffers, a move that they forwarded last year as well. Assembly democrats have called for an immediate tax increase on the state's top 1% wage earners, State Senate majority Republicans & Governor Cuomo want to hold off on tax increases on Millionaires.

Chenango County Sheriff Ernest Cutting reported the arrest of 2 parents in connection with the death of 16-year-old Jeffrey Franklin on March 1st in the Town of Guilford. The Sheriff’s Office arrested 35-year-old Ernest Franklin & 33 year old Heather Franklin following the investigation of a fire at their residence on state Route 8. The autopsy showed that the fire did not cause Jeffrey’s death, and that he was deceased prior to the fire, investigators believe the fire was set to cover up the murder of Jeffrey. Both parents are charged with 2nd degree Murder, Arson and Tampering with Physical Evidence. The investigation is continuing and further charges may be filed.
State Police arrested 56-year-old Danny Baldwin of Cherry Valley, for Conspiracy. Troopers accuse Baldwin of conspiring by allegedly attempting to hire another person to intentionally commit murder. Baldwin was arraigned in town of Richfield Springs Court and was remanded to the Otsego County Jail on $250,000 cash bail or $500,000 property bond.

State Police arrested 35 year old Tyson Haskins of Deposit, for Unlawful Manufacture of Methamphetamine, Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance & Criminally Using Drug Paraphernalia. The arrest occurred after a Trooper checked on an occupied vehicle that was stopped on Michigan Hollow Road in the Town of Deposit. Haskins was found to unlawfully possess needles, drug paraphernalia, an electronic scale, and about 1.75 grams of methamphetamine. Delaware County Sheriff's Deputies responded to a report of a snowmobile accident in the Town of Stamford & the discharge of gunshots by a property owner during an argument with snowmobiler. Deputies accuse 37 years old Willem Joosse of Hobart intentionally drove a snowmobile into a horse enclosure, until the property owners confronted him. Joose allegedly threatened to run over the owners, 57-year-old Joseph Laskowski retrieved a shotgun, and fired shots into the air. Deputies arrested Joosse for snowmobiling while intoxicated, criminal mischief, menacing, trespassing and operating an unregistered & uninsured snowmobile. Deputies also charged Laskowski with Menacing, both subjects were issued appearance tickets and were released, they will return to Town of Stamford Court at a later date.

U.S. Senate Minority Leader Charles Schumer said that he wants Donald Trump to include "real spending" and not just tax breaks in his plan to overhaul America's transportation infrastructure. All 4 were held in the Delaware County Jail on cash bail. Delaware County Sheriff's Deputies also arrested 21-year-old Austin Rose of Andes on a sealed indictment arrest warrant; he’ll be arraigned on the undisclosed charges in January, when the charges will be unsealed. Rose was arrested at the Otsego County Correctional Facility where he is being held on a charge of Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance.
A Broome County Grand Jury handed up a 5-count indictment against 60-year-old Mark Tanner, for allegedly burglarizing 4 Binghamton businesses and menacing a police officer. The Broome County DA’s office reported that Tanner unlawfully entered JR's Automotive Sales, Fairview Cleaners, Mr. Tire, and Broome Recycling, with intent to commit a crime. Tanner also displayed a weapon to responding police officers, with the intent to cause fear of physical injury, he faces court action shortly.
The Otsego County Sheriffs department arrested 32 year old Robert Colvin of Unadilla, for allegedly breaking into a woman’s house, shoving the victim & stealing prescription medication, Colvin was charged robbery and grand larceny; Colvin was arraigned in the Town of Unadilla Court and was sent to the county jail in lieu of $20,000 cash bail or $40,000 bond.

25 year old Ryan Lawrence of Syracuse, was sentenced to 25 years to life for murdering his 21-month-old daughter Maddox Lawrence earlier this year. Lawrence pleaded guilty in September in Onondaga county court, for fatally beating his infant daughter to death, and leaving her remains in Onondaga Lake.
The Chenango County District Attorney's office announced that 42 year old Melissa Crispell pleaded not guilty to 2 counts of 2nd degree murder, in connection with the death of 58-year-old David Green of Oxford at Green's home. Jeremy Coates pleaded not guilty to 1st degree murder in connection with Green's death, both are being held at the Chenango County Jail.
Chenango County Sheriff’s Deputies arrested a Town of Plymouth man for 3rd degree assault and 2 counts of endangering the welfare of a child. Fire fighters from several area departments responded this morning to a structure fire on Main Street in Delhi. The fire began at about 6:30 this morning in the kitchen of Village Pizzeria at 106 Main Street, it eventually spread to an adjacent antiques store. Main Street has been closed off & the Delaware County Courthouse has cancelled all activity today due to a loss of electrical power. Otsego County District Attorney John Muehl announced that 50 year old Casey Callahan was arrested Monday on a sealed indictment warrant for 2nd degree Murder for the killing his wife Elizabeth on January 19th, 2000, by allegedly running her over with a tractor trailer in a parking lot in Athens Township Pennsylvania. Muehl stated that the murder was planned out when Callahan & his wife lived at Goodyear Lake; Callahan is s currently serving a 12-½ year sentence for a criminal sexual act conviction from 3 years ago. Callahan was arraigned and was returned to the Attica Correctional Facility. Callahan faces 25 years to life in prison.
State Police arrested 32-year-old Joseph Little of Sidney Aggravated DWI with a BAC result of .20%, and other traffic violations. Little was observed failing to use a designated lane on State Route 7 in the Town of Unadilla, he was arraigned in the Town of Unadilla court and was remanded to the Otsego County jail on $500 cash bail or $1,000 property bond pending future court action.
Binghamton Police arrested Shaun Pauling-Payne of Binghamton, for vehicular manslaughter, DWI, and several other charges, after he crashed into a motorcycle driven by 37-year-old William Nash Jr. Nash was taken to an area hospital, but died as a result of his injuries. Pauling-Payne had a BAC of .22; He was arraigned in Binghamton City Court and taken to the Broome County Jail. The investigation is continuing.

State Police arrested 31-year-old Zachariah Burns & 24 year old Brandon Burns of Bainbridge, for 2nd degree burglary, following a March 29th report of a burglary to a home on County Road 26, in the Town of Afton. The Burns Brothers are accused of entering the home without permission and stealing guitars and a game system. Brandon Burns had been arrested on May 3rd & he was arraigned in the town of Afton court, he had been remanded to the Chenango County jail on bail, Zachariah Burns was arrested Wednesday & was arraigned in the Town of Afton court, he also was remanded to the Chenango County jail on bail. They face court action shortly.
3 area teenagers have been arrested by the Oneonta Police in connection with a burglary & theft at an Oneonta Business. 2 Sidney Teens & 1 from Oneonta, who are all 13 years old, were charged with 2nd degree Burglary, Petty Larceny & criminal mischief, their cases will be heard in Otsego county Family Court.

Chenango County Sheriff’s Deputies arrested 39 year old Arlo Biviano of Norwich for DWI Wednesday, following the report of a one car roll over accident on County Road 29 near the intersection of Tiffany Road in the Town of North Norwich with possible entrapment. Biviano's vehicle left the roadway and overturned over an embankment before striking a light pole. Both occupants escaped the crash with minor injuries. Biviano was processed and released on appearance tickets for later court action in the Town of North Norwich Court.

The Broome County Sheriff’s Department reported that 42 year old Scott Gross of Windsor was killed when a tractor trailer hit his disabled Jeep on Route 17 in Windsor, early Thursday morning. Gross suffered traumatic injuries and died at the scene, after his vehicle was hit from behind by a tractor trailer driven by 42 year old Anthony Baker of Solvay, at about 1:30 AM Thursday, both vehicles went over an embankment. Baker was taken to Wilson Hospital for head injuries, he was released, and no tickets were issued.

State Police at Sidney arrested 41-year-old Danielle Pettit of Bainbridge, for criminal mischief, after troopers responded to a Chenango County 911 report of criminal mischief on Kelly Road in the Town of Bainbridge. An investigation determined that Pettit had damaged the windows of a parked car and then left the scene. The windows had a value of more than $250. After being located, Pettit was arraigned in the adjoining Town of Afton court and was remanded to the Chenango County jail in lieu of $5,000 cash bail or $10,000 property bond. Her next court date in the Town of Bainbridge Thursday.

The Broome County Sheriff's Office is investigating the discovery of human remains, after an area man was walking along the Chenango river bank around 1:55 Tuesday afternoon, & he found remains behind a house in the 600 block of Chenango Street in Port Dickinson. An autopsy is scheduled for Wednesday.

Klinegardner is charged with 3 counts of Criminal Sale of a Controlled Substance & Bicknell is charged with 2 counts of Criminal Sale of a Controlled Substance. Klinegardner and Bicknell, are being held in the Delaware County Jail on bail from their January arrests, they were arraigned in Delaware County Court Tuesday & they were each remanded back to the Delaware County Jail on an additional $50,000 cash bail.

On Tuesday morning, a Delaware County Correctional Facility inmate was arrested and charged with assaulting another inmate at the County Jail last week. Sheriff’s Investigators arrested and charged 19 year old Michael Fairbairn of Sidney, for 2nd degree Assault, for allegedly punching another inmate in the face several times, causing injuries requiring medical treatment. Fairbairn, who was being held on a burglary charge pending in Delaware County Court at the time of the assault, he was arraigned and was returned to the Delaware County Jail on the previous County Court order, on $10,000 cash bail.

One man was killed and 4 other people were critically injured in a serious two-car motor vehicle accident in the town of Colchester on Thursday morning, The crash occurred at about 10 AM on County Highway 7, Delaware County deputies & state police responded, the male driver of one of the vehicles was killed, 4 occupants in the other vehicle, were critically injured & transported to trauma centers in the Hudson valley region. The names of those involved in the accident are being withheld until notification is given to the families, the investigation is continuing.
A mid-level appeals court reversed a lower court’s decision to throw out petition signatures of a Republican state Senate candidate. The state Supreme Court Appellate Division ruled the lower court erred in rejecting the petitions of Tioga County businessman Denver Jones, who is seeking to unseat State Senator Tom Libous of Binghamton. On August 1st the state Board of Elections determined 743 of the 1,713 signatures Jones submitted in July were invalid due to residency issues and other problems. The new order states a total of 203 signatures are reinstated, giving Jones more than required 1,000 signatures. The decision is not final, the case was sent back to the lower court for further proceedings.
The Delaware County Department of Corrections announced that the 4th annual Andrew Brown Memorial Golf Tournament would be held tomorrow at Hardwood Hills gold Course in Masonville, with a tee time of 8:30 AM. Organizers announced that the money raise with this years tournament will go to the family of Johnson City Police officer David Smith, who was shot & killed in the line of duty on March 31st.

Local counties will get more than $185 million in state and federal homeland security grants, to support infrastructure protection, sustain anti-terrorism programs, and enhance emergency preparedness and response. Otsego County will receive $500,000 for improvements and enhancements to merge 911 public safety-answering systems, and fund the implementation of new technologies for data sharing, greater operating efficiencies, and regional consolidation. Otsego, Delaware, Chenango and Broome counties, will share in $108,000 in a Hazardous Materials Grant program.
State Senator Jim Seward has filed nearly 4,000 signatures on nominating petitions for re-election as state senator representing the 51st senatorial district. Seward filed 3,099 signatures for the Republican Party nomination, 605 for the Independence party nod and 171 for the Conservative party designation. Seward was first elected to the state senate in 1986. So far, no democrats have announced their intention to unseat Seward in the general election.
