Congressman Marc Molinaro announced his constituent service team will hold mobile office hours from 12:00 noon to 2:00pm on Wednesday, December 20 at the Town of Oneonta Town Hall. This comes after a home exploded in Oneonta, killing 1 person, injuring others, and damaging neighboring homes. Constituents will be able to connect with representatives from Congressman Molinaro's office to get assistance with issues they are facing.
Broome County Sheriff’s Office Patrols, State DOT and volunteer firefighters responded to a tractor trailer fire on I-81 southbound between Exit 7 & Exit 6 in the Town of Chenango early Thursday morning, traffic was diverted to 1 lane for the clean up & investigation, the trailer contained frozen food, no tickets were announced & no injuries were reported.

A man was arrested Thursday afternoon after he fired a shotgun in the parking area of an Albany synagogue. No one was injured during the incident at the Temple Israel and the suspect was an unidentified 28-year-old man, who was quickly arrested, he made "threatening statements," during the incident. Police said that an early childhood center with at least two dozen preschoolers were on the premises. The parents were contacted, the facility went immediately into lockdown, Federal law enforcement is currently leading the investigation.

Attorney General Letitia James & a coalition of 21 attorneys general, support a proposed Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives rule that would ensure more gun sales are subject to background checks. Following the passage of the Bipartisan Safer Communities Act, the ATF proposed a new regulation to clarify what it means for a person to be "engaged in the business" of dealing in firearms, and therefore required to obtain a license and run background checks when selling guns, that rule would close loopholes that allowed for the unlicensed sale of firearms, including online and at gun shows.

The Delaware County Sheriff's office arrested 26 year old Jonathan Stein of Delhi on an arrest warrant from Otsego County. Deputies assisted the Cooperstown Police Department in locating Stein who was wanted for Criminal Contempt, he was located Tuesday & was turned over to the Cooperstown Police Department to be arraigned at Otsego County Centralized Arraignment Court in Otsego County on the charges.

Governor Hochul announced $5 million is available to support animal shelters and humane societies in making infrastructure upgrades. The program is administered by the Department of Agriculture and Markets, it provides matching grants to shelters and humane societies to offset the costs associated with capital projects. Delaware County Sheriff's Office arrested 26 year old Kyle Buckley of Masonville on an arrest warrant issued by the Town of Hamden Court. On October 23rd, Deputies received an arrest warrant for Buckley stemming from a previous charges of Aggravated Unlicensed Operator, and Improper Passing on the Right, Buckley was located Tuesday & Deputies arrested Buckley, he was held for the Delaware County Centralized Arraignment Court and later released to reappear at the Town Of Hamden Court at a later date.
The State Department of Transportation will host a public information meeting at 5:30 pm. Tuesday, November 14, at the Oneonta High School, pertaining to a project to reconstruct the intersection of Maple Street & State Route 7 in the City of Oneonta. The project would replace an existing signalized intersection with a single-lane roundabout, plus new sidewalks, crosswalks and a multi-use path for bicyclists and pedestrians. A formal presentation by DOT staff will be followed by a question-and-answer and public comment period.

Broome County Sheriff’s Deputies arrested 35 year old Devyn Wilcox of Harpursville on 27 counts of Endangering the Welfare of a Child & 1 count of disorderly conduct on Thursday. Deputies responded Thursday afternoon to the Harpursville School District Bus, Wilcox is accused of entering the stopped bus and began yelling, screaming, swearing and threatening juveniles, according to witnesses & video. There were 30 students from elementary school to high school ages on the bus. Wilcox was taken into custody without incident at his residence, he was processed at the Broome County Sheriff’s Correctional Facility and released on appearance tickets for the Town of Colesville Court at a later date. The investigation is continuing.

On Wednesday, State Police Traffic Incident Management Unit issued a total of 25 tickets in Broome County during an “Operation Hard Hat” detail. Troopers monitored traffic on State Route 17 in the town of Sanford where road crews were doing bridge work. Of the 25 tickets issued, 9 were for speeding, 6 for seatbelt violations & the rest for a variety of offenses.
Broome County Sheriff's Deputies responded Monday in the Town of Fenton for a Burglary complaint. The homeowner had found an unknown man in a 2nd floor room around 1:30 AM, the intruder left on foot, a laptop computer and several other electronics were missing from his residence, a downstairs window was left ajar with the screen ripped out. Deputies apprehended an individual with the stolen items in a drawstring bag, 24 year old Mitchell Paul of Binghamton, was charged with Burglary, Grand Larceny, Criminal Possession of Stolen Property & Criminal Mischief, he was taken to Central Arraignment and is currently being held at the Broome County Correctional Facility. Later that morning Deputies responded to a separate Burglary complaint in the Town of Fenton, where various items were stolen, they discovered that those items were in Mitchell Paul's drawstring bag, he was additionally charged with Burglary.

41 year old Paul Thayer of Utica was sentenced in Delaware County Court for his conviction of Attempted Dissemination of Indecent Materials to a Minor. On May 2nd, Thayer drove from Utica to the Village of Walton to meet a person he believed to be a 14 year old boy after sending the boy numerous text messages soliciting sexual acts. Thayer admitted he believed the boy was 14, the boy was actually a fictitious entity controlled by an organization dedicated to catching sexual predators, Judge Hubbard sentenced him to a 3-year term of probation supervision, which will include specific sex offender terms and conditions.

Otsego County Sheriff's Office arrested 42 year old Bobbi Jo Worden of Oneonta for allegedly for throwing toilet bowl contents onto corrections officers 2 separate times while incarcerated at the Otsego County Jail. Worden was charged with Aggravated Harassment of an Employee by an Inmate . The officers were treated at Bassett Hospital and released. Worden was issued an Appearance Ticket returnable to the Middlefield Town Court at a later date.

State Police arrested 48 year old Theresa Price of Utica for 3rd degree Grand Larceny. Troopers were advised last week that Price took a used vehicle for a test drive from a car dealership, told them she’d like the vehicle checked out by her mechanic but never returned. An investigation revealed that on September 15, the vehicle was traveling on Interstate 90. Price and the vehicle were located at a truck stop in the town of Pembroke. She was arrested and was processed and was turned over to the Otsego County Jail for Arraignment.

The Deputy stopped 28 year old Matin Avdel of Johnson City, the Deputy noticed a clear plastic bag filled with pills and powder in a fanny pack Avdel was wearing, he admitted to possessing illegal substances on both his person and in the vehicle he was driving. Avdel also identified a weapon hidden in his hoodie pocket. Avdel was charged with Criminal Possession of a Loaded Weapon, Criminal Possession of a Weapon, 4 Counts of Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance, Deputies recovered Oxycodone, MDMA, Amphetamines, A loaded pistol, Avdel was taken into custody and arraigned in Binghamton City Court. He is currently being held at the Broome County Correctional Facility.

Delaware County Sheriff’s Office arrested 26 year old Kyle Buckley of Walton for Aggravated Unlicensed Operation of a Motor Vehicle, Failing to Turn in New York State License, along with other violations, after Deputies observed a vehicle traveling on State Highway 206 in the Town of Colchester with no license plate lamps. Deputies conducted a check of Buckley’s driver’s license & found his driving privileges were suspended in New York. Buckley was released on the traffic summonses and is scheduled to appear in the Town of Colchester Court at a later date to answer the charges.

Fuller was turned back over to Otsego County Correctional Facility where he was being held for prior offenses, he is scheduled to appear in the Town of Worcester Court on a later date.

Delaware County District Attorney's office announced that 26 year old John Macrabie of Walton, was arraigned on a 4 count indictment in Delaware County Court. Macrabie was charged with Endangering the Welfare of a Child, Disseminating Indecent Material to Minors & Criminal Sexual Act, he is accused of sending a child naked pictures of himself to entice sexual acts, which allegedly occurred, in the presence of a 2-year-old child. Macrabie pleaded not guilty, he was released to the supervision of the Delaware County Probation Department, the case is scheduled for a conference on September 5th.
Broome County Sheriff’s Deputies responded Saturday to the apartments at 101 Hooper Road for complaint of shots fired. Deputies located a male suffering from a gunshot wound to the abdomen on the lawn, he was taken to Wilson Hospital and was in stable condition following surgery. 25 year old Jeffrey Gates of Endwell was charged with Assault with a Weapon, Criminal Use of a Firearm & Reckless Endangerment, he was taken to Broome County Central Arraignment and remanded to the Broome County Correctional Facility, the investigation is continuing.

The Chenango County Sheriff’s Office Detectives Division arrested 40 year old Todd Jorgensen for Criminal Possession of Stolen Property, 2 counts of Criminal Sale of firearms and false written statement. The arrest came following an investigation of a Burglary of firearms in the Town of Columbus in December 2022. Jorgensen is accused of possessing the stolen firearms, he allegedly sold the stolen firearms to 2 different people, and provided a false statement to impede the recovery of the firearms. Jorgensen was processed and released on an appearance ticket to appear in the Town of Columbus Court at a later date.

Hussain is charged with multiple counts of 2nd degree manslaughter and criminally negligent homicide. He initially pleaded guilty to 20 felonies in a deal that required no prison time, but a new judge rejected that deal & ordered a new trial. The trial requires 12 jurors & 2 alternates before it can proceed.

The Broome County County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a single-car motor vehicle accident on I-88 westbound near the Exit 3 on-ramp in the town of Fenton. Officers reported that a Honda sedan traveling westbound on I-88 left the highway, crashing into the Chenango River, at about 11:30 this morning, both occupants were removed from the river by Deputies and transported to Wilson Hospital for their injuries. The unidentified driver suffered serious life threatening injuries, the passenger sustained minor injuries. Traffic was closed for several hours today in the right lane of I-88 westbound for the accident investigation concludes.

Local sales tax collections in New York state increased by 14.1% in February compared to the same month in 2022, according to an analysis released today by State Comptroller Tom DiNapoli. Overall, local collections totaled $1.64 billion, up $203 million compared to the same time last year. New York City’s collections totaled $718 million, an increase of 11.6%, or $74.5 million, over February of 2022. All counties experienced strong increases in February collections, with most seeing double-digit growth.

Broome County DA's office announced that 40 year old Quintin Wilson of Binghamton was convicted in Broome County Court in connection with a daytime Binghamton home invasion during which 2 people terrorized a 29-year-old woman. Wilson was found guilty for 2 counts of burglary, obstructing governmental administration and endangering the welfare of a child on March 5th 2021. Wilson will be sentenced on June 9.

Police arrested 37 year old Andrew Bethune of Binghamton for criminal possession of a controlled substance, criminal possession of a weapon & criminally using drug paraphernalia. Police seized A .22 Revolver, Crack Cocaine, Fentanyl, Methamphetamines, $5,481 in cash, & items used in the sale and distribution of controlled substances. Bethune was transported to the Binghamton Police Department for processing.

State tax receipts totaled $79.8 billion through the 3rd quarter of the State Fiscal Year 2022-23, exceeding the latest projections from the Division of the Budget’s (DOB) Mid-Year Update to the State Financial Plan by nearly $7.7 billion, according to State Comptroller Tom DiNapoli. Personal income tax receipts totaled $42.1 billion and were $8.1 billion above the latest financial plan projections through December 31st, but $6.9 billion lower than the same period in Fiscal Year 21-22. DiNapoli said that there were 2 fewer collection days from the prior year as well as higher refunds from the Pass-Through Entity Tax and property tax relief.

Governor Kathy Hochul signed legislation to ban the sale of dogs, cats, and rabbits at retail pet stores, aiming to end the puppy mill-to-pet store pipeline and stop abusive breeders. The legislation will take effect in 2024, following studies that showed that many of these animals have health issues resulting from poor breeding and can cost families thousands of dollars in veterinary care.

State Police arrested 19 year old Jeffrey Bullis of Unadilla, for Criminal Contempt, Stalking, and Criminal Trespass, after Troopers were dispatched to a report of a physical altercation at the House of Consignment on Main Street in Unadilla. State Police reported that Bullis violated an existing order of protection by entering the business, he is accused of grabbing and shoving a victim, causing the victim to strike a window and door frame, another person intervened & held Bullis down until troopers arrived. The victim went to Tri-Town Hospital for an evaluation of injuries that were sustained during the incident. Bullis was also evaluated at Tri-Town Hospital for a complaint of pain but was released and processed at Troop C, Bullis was issued appearance tickets to the Unadilla Town Court on January 23rd. The investigation is on-going, more charges are possible.
The State Department of Labor announced that the number of private sector jobs in the State increased by 19,600, or 0.2%, to 8,080,000 in November. The State's seasonally adjusted unemployment rate remained at 4.3% in November.
The National Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum announced that items from the World Champions Houston Astros is being displayed currently. State Police responded to the report of “shots fired” in the town of Andes, the investigation revealed that a 62-year-old female was injured when she accidentally discharged a semi-automatic rifle, suffering face and hand injuries. The responding trooper applied a tourniquet to subside the heavy bleeding to the victim’s hand, another officer from the Colchester Police Department applied a 2nd tourniquet until EMS arrived and the victim was transported to Bassett Hospital for treatment. Troopers reported that the rifle is not legal in New York State and was not New York Safe Act compliant, 58 year old Richard Geraghty of Andes, was charged with 2 counts of Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the third degree.

Unadilla Valley Central School District voters approved a $17.8 million capital project by a vote of 114 to 18. The renovations and improvements will be funded through state aid and an allocation from the district’s reserve funds. The Village of Sidney Police Department arrested 36 year old Thomas Wright of Oxford and 36 year old Troy Dibble of Oxford, on Burglary & Grand Larceny Charges, following an investigation of a burglary of a house on Patterson Street in Sidney. A car trailer, 2 ATV's & a number of Tools were taken from the property, it was located in the town of Oxford and the 2 men were arrested. Wright was arraigned in Village of Sidney Court, he was released on $2000 bail to appear back in court at a later date, Dibble was arraigned in Village of Sidney Court, he was released on his own recognizance to appear back in court at a later date. Sidney Police Department were assisted by the Chenango County Sheriff's Office & State Police.
The State Department of Agriculture & Markets announced that raw milk from the Nickol Dairy Farm in Otsego County was found to be contaminated with Listeria following an inspection. Department officials warned customers not to drink the unpasteurized raw milk, until more testing is complete. Governor Kathy Hochul today announced that nearly $30 million has been awarded to help increase capacity at more than 400 existing state-licensed, registered, or permitted child care programs that are located in underserved areas of the state. In the Southern Tier, 12 awards will be issued, totaling over $620,000.

Several rooms were evacuated due to the fire and over a dozen patients, including nurses and a security guard were treated for smoke inhalation. The fire was extinguished by employees at the hospital. Sidlauskas was arrested and was transported to the Otsego County Jail for Centralized Arraignment.

State Police are looking for 2 people who scammed a clerk at the Owego Speedway October 5th, by engaging in a series of purchases including lottery tickets and Visa cards, stealing over $3,693 from the store. The incident occurred on October 5, and it is believed the pair conducted a similar scam in Johnson City earlier that evening. They may be operating a white Ford sedan. Chobani CEO Hamdi Ulukaya announced this week at the business summit organized by the Tent Partnership for Refugees, committed to hiring 200 refugees at their Chenango County & Idaho Falls Idaho plants over the next 3 years. Officers located a 26 year old male who was shot in the abdomen, he was taken to an area hospital for emergency surgery. State Police arrested 19 year old Alec Hollenbeck of Lincklaen and 53 year old Duane Hollenbeck of Moravia after an investigation regarding ghost guns and large capacity ammunition feeding devices that are illegal in New York State. Both were charged with Criminal Possession of a Weapon, Alec Hollenbeck was arraigned & was released on his own recognizance, & faces court action today, Duane Hollenbeck was arraigned and was released on his own recognizance, he appear in Lincklaen Town Court on September 20th.
State Police arrested 56 year old Francesco Carotenuto of Schenevus for Promoting Sexual Performance by a Child and Possessing Sexual Performance by a Child. An investigation revealed that Carotenuto was in possession of and promoting images consistent with child sexual exploitation via the internet. While at Carotenuto’s residence, Troopers observed seven adult dogs who did not have adequate food, water or shelter. The dogs were turned over to the care of the Otsego County SPCA. He was additionally charged with New York Agriculture and Market Law of Overdriving, Torturing, and Injuring Animals, a misdemeanor. Carotenuto was arraigned at Otsego County Central Arraignment and Processing and remanded to the jail on $20,000 cash bail or $100,000 bond. His next court date is scheduled at the Maryland Town Court on September 13, 2022.
The Broome County District Attorney’s Office announced that 58 year old Loretta Washington of Binghamton was sentenced to 3 1/2 years in prison followed by 2 1/2 years of post-release supervision, after pleading guilty to attempted arson. Washington set fire to a doormat that was outside of an apartment last October in Binghamton, the fire was quickly extinguished and that there were no injuries.

State Police arrested 35 year old Tadd Sherwood of Oneonta for 2nd degree attempted murder after he allegedly fired a shotgun in a residential area Saturday in the town of Unadilla, that could have caused the death of another person. Sherwood was arraigned and was remanded to the Otsego County Jail without bail pending future court action.

State Police responded Friday to State Route 17 west to a crash involving several vehicles. In the 1st crash, vehicles were stopped on State Route 17 due to a construction barrel in the road, a vehicle was unable to stop and struck the rear of a vehicle, causing 2 vehicles to spin, 1 of them hit the guide rail, the other vehicle, struck a different vehicle and pushed it into 1 of the original vehicles. 2 drivers were taken to Wilson Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, 2 other drivers were injured, & were treated at the scene.

State Police were dispatched Saturday to assist Cherry Valley Fire with a hiker who had fallen from a waterfall down about 150-feet into a gorge. 1st responders hiked about a mile through a wooded area to locate the 32-year-old woman from Troy, she was pulled to safety and was airlifted to Albany Medical Center, where she was treated & released.
The Otsego County Sheriff's Office arrested 32 year old Emily Wood of Morris for Aggravated Harassment, following a complaint in the Town of Morris. Wood is accused of sending threatening and unwanted text messages to the victim. The defendant is set to appear in the Town of Morris Court at a later date.

The fire at the Minnewaska State Park Preserve was contained on Sunday, according to the Governor's office. The State DEC Forest Rangers are leading the incident response in cooperation with the Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation, Division of Homeland Security and Emergency Services, State Police and many other State and local partners. Response actions in the area will continue in the coming days with a smaller force of state and local experts as fire control efforts advance. More than 200 firefighters, bulldozer operators, pilots, and other professional staff and volunteers have been working to contain the fire.

Sidney Police Department arrested 29 year old Edward Petti of Oneonta on a bench warrant issued by the Village of Sidney Court, for failing to appear in court. When officers attempted to make contact with Petti, he fled on a bicycle, leading officers on a pursuit. A panel of appellate judges ruled that state Democrats engaged in gerrymandering when drawing new congressional district boundaries for the next decade. An investigation on scene determined that the operator of the tractor trailer, a 45-year-old man from Trenton, New Jersey was operating a tractor trailer belonging to Granger Enterprises, for an unknown reason, he went off the roadway, struck trees and the vehicle became engulfed in flames. The man was later located deceased in the cab.

The total budget is currently estimated at approximately $220 billion.

Several area Fire Departments responded Thursday afternoon to a house fire on Depot Street, County Route 35 in Sidney Center. The house was totally destroyed, so far no injuries have been reported.
Fire Companies responded this morning to a structure fire at 22 Main Street in Laurens. Laurens Fire Fighters are receiving mutual aid from Mount Vision, West Laurens, Morris, Milford, Volunteers from the Southern Tier Chapter of the American Red Cross provided immediate emergency aid to 2 adults after a fire in Laurens, this morning.

Andrew Amodeo of Westchester County is facing charges in Otsego County for unlawful surveillance, for allegedly putting a camera in the bathroom of his vacation home in Fly Creek. Amodeo pleaded guilty to 1 count of unlawful surveillance & he is scheduled to be sentenced in March of 2023.

A new state law goes into effect today that will fine motorists with vehicle mufflers and exhaust systems modified to make them louder than the stock applications. The maximum fines for installing the illegal equipment will increase from $150 to $1,000, and if repair shop owners are caught installing the equipment three times within 18 months, they risk losing their certificate of inspection stations and operating certificate. The legislation also adds a requirement for inspection stations to check motorcycles for mufflers and exhausts that have been illegally modified.
The Habitat for Humanity of Otsego County is now accepting applications from Otsego County residents currently living in unsuitable or unaffordable housing, to work with them on obtaining a loan and are willing to help build homes for others through the program. Broome County District Attorney Mike Korchak announced that Jordan Rindgen, Yaron Kweller & Leor Kweller were arraigned in Broome County Court. Rindgen was charged with Criminal Sale of a controlled substance, Criminal Possession of a controlled substance, sexual abuse, criminal sexual act, Criminal facilitation & Unlawfully dealing with a child. Yaron Kweller was charged with 1st degree Rape & Criminal Sexual act, Leor Kweller was charged with 1st degree rape & Sexual Abuse. The charges stem for an incident near the Colonial Bar in Downtown Binghamton that the 3 men owned, on November 27th of 2021. All 3 pleaded not guilty to the Charges from the Indictment handed down in Broome County Court.

Beginning Today, the State DEC will be adopting changes to fishing regulations, including year-round fishing for Atlantic salmon as well as other lake and pond fish. Ice fishing will also be permitted on all waters, except for a few limitations. There are also new season opening dates for several species of fish, as well as changes to harvest sizes. State Senator Fred Akshar joined Broome County officials to welcome the "Hockey 4 Hope" charity event back, on 2 nights at the SUNY Broome Ice Center in Binghamton to raise money to help alleviate the financial burden associated with fighting cancer. The charity hockey game begins with "Paint the Ice" today 5:00 to 8:00 PM where attendees will be able to paint a message of hope, love, and remembrance on the ice. Broome County District Attorney Mike Korchak announced that 32 year old Zeke Wilmarth of Binghamton pleaded guilty to 2nd degree attempted murder, Criminal possession of a weapon & Strangulation, in connection with the attack on his girlfriend in July of 2021 in the town of Vestal. Wilmarth is expected to be sentenced to 15 years to life upon sentencing in June.
Governor Kathy Hochul & Lieutenant Governor Brian Benjamin wrote an op-ed piece in a Downstate news paper this week, they claimed that New York's Bail Reform doesn't need to be repealed, but there are changes needed to the law. Governor Hochul wrote that problems that needs to be addressed include Repeat offenders, those accused of hate crimes, judges should be allowed to set bail; even if the crime would not currently be bail-eligible. The Governor wrote that judges should be able to set bail in all felony cases involving illegal guns, including guns given or sold to minors, & in crimes involving guns, judges should be able to set more restrictive pretrial conditions
