State Troopers arrested 42 year old Steven Hoyt of Harpursville for Criminal Obstruction of Breathing or Blood Circulation, Unlawful Imprisonment, Criminal Mischief and Harassment. The arrest followed a dispute on State Route 79 in the town of Colesville. Hoyt is accused of choking a woman, physically refusing to let her leave the residence or use a phone to contact police. Hoyt was arraigned in Town of Fenton Court and remanded to the Broome County Jail on $500 cash bail, an order of protection was issued.
Chenango River Theatre’s Gala will be held at the Silo Restaurant on January 24th from 6:00 to 9:00 pm. This year’s Live Auction features a brand new, autographed Jimmy Buffett acoustic guitar, according to Theater spokesman Bill Lelbach:

Chenango County residents who earned less than $53,000 this tax year, may qualify for free tax preparation. In Chenango County, appointments will be available at Cornell Cooperative Extension in Norwich, at 334-5841 extension 11. Senior citizens 60+ are eligible for free tax return preparation regardless of income.
Delaware County Sheriff Deputies observed a vehicle on Delaware Avenue in the Village of Sidney failing to keep right. Following a traffic stop, Deputies arrested 26-year-old Thomas Schaeffer of Bainbridge, he was charged him with Aggravated Driving While Intoxicated. Schaeffer will appear in the Village of Sidney Court at a later date.
The New Year brought many new laws onto the books in New York State. New tax reforms will save businesses an estimated $205 million this year and $501 million annually by 2019, also, tax incentives will be available to business owners who employ individuals with developmental disabilities at 15% of the wages for qualified full-time employees. Other new laws protect fire fighters by requiring fire departments to be notified about structures that use truss-type construction, so they can take proper precautions. It’s now also illegal to pierce or tattoo pets for decorative purposes, the law will still allow for ear tags on rabbits or tattoos for identification purposes only when applied through a veterinarian.

Broome County Sheriff's deputies arrested 18 year old Brandon Pittsley of Whitney Point, for 2nd degree attempted assault, resisting arrest, and harassment. Pittsley is accused of punching a Deputy in the face, during an investigation into a reported domestic dispute. He was taken to the Broome County Jail without bail.


The Cuomo family announced details of the wake and funeral arrangements for former Governor Mario M. Cuomo. Today, calling hours will be held between 1:00PM-5:00PM and 7:00PM-10:00PM at the Campbell Funeral Home in Manhattan. On Tuesday, at 11:00AM, a funeral service will be held at St. Ignatius Loyola Church, in Manhattan. In place of flowers, the Cuomo family requests contributions to be made to HELP USA for the Mario M. Cuomo Mentoring Fund, 5 Hanover Square, 17th Floor New York, NY 10004.


Governor Cuomo, Senate Majority Coalition Leader Dean Skelos, and Assembly Speaker Sheldon Silver announced that due to extenuating circumstances the Governor's 2015 State of the State address has been rescheduled to Wednesday, January 21st at 1:30PM, to be held in the Empire State Convention Center. The Senate and the Assembly 2015 legislative session will convene on January 7th as mandated by the State Constitution.
