The Chenango County Sheriff Ernest Cutting & Chenango county DA Joe McBride held a press conference this morning, regarding the murder of 39-year-old Lucinda Knoll of Norwich, and the arrest of her former boyfriend, 48-year-old William Danielson of Preston. Sheriff Cutting described the intial response after deputies arrived to the report of the attack Friday in Norwich:

Danielson is being held in the Chenango County Jail without bail. Sheriff Cutting said that the couple’s 7-year-old son is the sole witness of the attack so far; he was removed from the vehicle by a neighbor, who then called police. Sheriff Cutting is asking anyone who was in the vicinity of Maple Grove Trailer Park around 6:00 AM Friday to call 337-1921 or 337-1863.
62-year-old Barry Renert waived extradition in Virginia; he was arrested in Richmond Virginia following the attack on a Cooperstown shopkeeper last Monday. Renert is accused of threatening the owner of Seventh Inning Stretch with a gun and the owner fired his own weapon in self-defense. No one was hurt. Renert is expected to be charged with burglary, menacing and criminal weapon possession
The Oneonta 1st Night festivities will get underway later today. The annual Oneonta First Night Parade will start at 5:00 PM at Grand Street in downtown Oneonta, Congressman Chris Gibson will march in the parade. The full schedule is available at firstnightoneonta.com.
New York had 19.65 million people in July, about 98,000 more than Florida, which ranked fourth in the nation. Florida is expected to pass New York as soon as next year, as out-migration is outpacing new residents. 1.2 million people left to other states between 2000 and 2009. Census figures released in March showed 35 upstate counties lost population between 2010 and 2012, full county figures are expected early next year.
Griffis Airport in Rome New York was selected by the FAA as 1 of 6 locations nationwide to be test sites for unmanned aircraft. The FAA said the research and development will look into integrating drones into the congested Northeast airspace. An alliance of more than 40 public, private and academic organizations in New York and Massachusetts will operate the Rome site.
The State Department of Taxation and Finance issued a final reminder to homeowners, that they must register for the Basic STAR property tax exemption today. The average homeowner saves $700 each year on their tax bill from the Basic STAR exemption, which is available on the primary residence of homeowners with incomes under $500,000. Registrations are available at tax.ny.gov or 518-457-2036.
Assembly speaker Sheldon Silver wants to accelerate the state’s scheduled minimum wage increase to $9 by 2015 & tie it to the inflation rate. The Assembly passed a bill this year to raise New York’s minimum wage for most workers from $7.25 to $9 with inflation adjustments. A compromise approved by the Assembly, Senate and governor’s office raised the rate to $8 for 2014, $8.75 a year later and to $9 in 2016 without inflation adjustments.
The flu is starting to make its way across the Twin Tiers according to the CDC. New York State has widespread flu activity, with the early cases associated with a strain that targets young and middle-aged adults. Flu shots and nasal sprays are the best way to protect against the flu, it's also important to wash your hands, eat well and get enough sleep.

The Chenango County Sheriff’s Office announced that 39-year-old Lucinda Knoll of Norwich passed away on Saturday from the injuries sustained in the attack early Friday morning. Knoll’s former boyfriend, 48 year old William Danielson of Oxford has been charged with 2nd degree murder, he was arraigned on the news charges Monday and was remanded back to the Chenango County Correctional Facility without bail. The Sheriff’s Office is asking anyone who was in the area of Maple Grove Trailer Park around 6:00 AM Friday to call 337-1921 or 337-1863. more details will be released later this morning by Sheriff Cutting at a press conference in Norwich.
The NY State of Health reported that 480,911 New Yorkers have completed their applications and 241,522 people have enrolled for health insurance coverage. Over the two-day period from December 23 to December 24, enrollments increased by 42,078. The open enrollment period for individuals on the NY State of Health marketplace runs through March 31st.
