There will be a Sidney school district Capital Project Presentation open to the public on Tuesday, January 8th in the HS Auditorium at 6:00pm. Superintendent Bill Christensen told WCDO that the athletic fields and capital reserve fund proposition are important features of the vote:

Christensen and the architects will be present to talk about the project and answer questions at tonight’s meeting.


The village of Bainbridge crews continue to work on locating & fixing a leak in the water delivery system.  Mayor Chick Darling told WCDO News that water has been deliberately turned off on Guilford Road as well as Bennett Street, Parsons Street, Pruyn Street, Freiot Avenue and lower Greenlawn.  Residents in the rest of the Village are asked to conserve water by not running washing machines or dishwashers, or washing their cars until the situation is resolved.  Boil water advisory has been issued for Bainbridge village residents that had a water interruption over the last few days or who has discolored water currently.


Delaware County Deputies investigated a two-car property damage accident on State Hwy 357 in the town of Franklin.  23-year-old Peter Zuk of Franklin was operating a 1997 Saab when he failed to notice a 2008 Honda driven by 41 year old Justin Harper of Franklin pulling into his driveway.  Zuk struck the passenger’s side of the Harper vehicle, Zuk was issued a traffic ticket for following too close, he will appear in the Town of Franklin court on January 24th.   There were no reported injuries.


The New York comptroller Tom DiNapoli reported that the state government’s debt has topped $63 billion, with New York on track to approach its borrowing limit in early 2014.    DiNapoli reported that the debt burden is almost three times the national median, and is second only to California’s $96.4 billion in state-funded debt and 80 percent higher than New Jersey, which is in third place. DiNapoli projects New York’s borrowing capacity should be falling to $509 million after the 2013-2014 fiscal year.


An autographed & Framed Star Wars poster has just been added as one of the featured items for the Chenango River Theater fundraising auction.  The poster joins the Bruce Springsteen autographed guitar & the Muhammad Ali autographed boxing glove up for auction at Chenango River Theatre’s annual Winter Gala to be held on January 19th, from 6:00 until 9:30 pm. The Afton Central School will host a Coaches vs. Cancer basketball event to benefit the American Cancer Society tonight.  The Crimson Knights will host a quadruple-header against Sidney beginning at 4:30; those in attendance will receive cancer awareness stickers and pin-up cards for the Wall of Hope for a $1 donation. State Attorney General Eric Schneiderman announced a $2.4 million settlement the medical waste disposal company, Stericycle, for improperly overcharging nearly 1,000 New York government entities, including police and fire departments, rescue squads, schools, jails, and hospitals. Schneiderman announced that the entities would be re-imbursed, among the local concerns receiving funds back are Broome Community College, the New York State Veterans Home in Oxford, & the Suco Health Center in Oneonta. The settlement follows a complaint lodged by a former Stericycle in Chicago.

Walton police have arrested 27-year-old Jennifer Morris of Walton with 2 counts of endangering the welfare of a child, in connection with the graphic & threatening message sent to Walton students through Facebook.  Morris was arraigned in Walton village court and taken to the Delaware County Jail on $10,000 bail.  Morris may face Additional charges from Walton police.


22 year old Daniel Doherty of Binghamton was sentenced in Broome County Court to 23 years in jail, on a charge of 1st degree manslaughter in a plea bargain deal, in connection with the death of 27 year old Daniel Martinez of the Bronx in October of 2011, Martinez was found in a wooded area in the town of Chenango by hunters.    Doherty will be required to testify at the trial of co-defendant, Joseph Ross-Jones as part of the plea deal with the district attorney’s office.


The Broome County Sheriff’s Office Detective Division arrested 34-year-old Shawn Bosket of Windsor, after he allegedly failed to return an annual address verification form for sex offenders, to the New York State Division of Criminal Justice Services. Bosket was taken into custody in the Town of Colesville on January 4th & was ordered to appear in the Town of Dickinson Court today.


State comptroller Tom DiNapoli released a report following an audit of the town of Deposit.  The town government responded, they reported that they would conduct a monthly review of the town clerk’s duties, the supervisor will review & Certify payroll before submission for payment, and have a review done by an appointed board member before it is given to the book keeper, & the town board will work to adopt budgets based on recurring revenues & amend the budget as needed, according to DiNapoli’s recommendations.


The Chenango chargers soccer team will hold an open house today from 5:00 to 8:00 PM, regarding their spring travel league, training session & the indoor soccer league.  The open house will be held at the chargers indoor facility on Maple Street in Norwich.
