The Joint Landowners coalition of Central New York announced they will hold an event to mark the five-year anniversary of the moratorium on high-volume hydraulic fracturing in NY. Coalition officials said that State and Local political leaders are expected to speak at the Event at the Holiday Inn of downtown Binghamton tomorrow from 2:00 to 3:00 pm.

41-year-old Scott George of Norwich pleaded guilty to 3rd degree assault and petty larceny, in Chenango county court; George is scheduled to serve 2 consecutive 1-year sentences according to a plea agreement. George was arrested in October 2012 for allegedly causing injury to a Norwich Police Officer, and for stealing money from another individual. George will be officially sentenced at a later date.

58-year-old Howard Clark of Harpursville has been charged with Felony DWI, following a traffic stop in Endicott. Clark was also charged with driving with blood alcohol content greater than .08 percent, and aggravated unlicensed operation. Clark faces court action at a later date.

State Health Commissioner Nirav Shah urged all New Yorkers to take protective measures to avoid mosquito bites, as cases of the West Nile virus have been reported in New York City and 5 counties. This year, a total of 20 mosquito pools have tested positive for West Nile virus, as far north as Onondaga County, the rest were in Rockland County, New York City & Long Island. State Health officials remind residents to wear shoes, socks, long pants and a long-sleeved shirt when outdoors for a long period of time, use mosquito repellents and remove all standing water from property from items like standing tires, bird baths, gutters or outdoor furniture, more information is available at health.ny.gov.

Firefighters from Bainbridge, Afton, Sidney, Unadilla & Masonville responded to a fire at Upturn industries at 2 Whitney Way in Bainbridge this morning. The fore was called in shortly after 6:00 AM; WCDO News will have more details as they become available.
Governor Cuomo has asked Pro-Gas Drilling groups to do more to dismiss the public fears with regards to the misconceptions about natural gas development. The Joint Landowners Coalition of Central New York will host an event today regarding water & health issues & the state proposed gas-drilling regulations, at the Legislative Office Building in Albany from 11:30 AM to 2:30 PM. A panel discussion with gas drilling & health experts is scheduled, followed by a question & answer period.
The Chenango county sheriffs department arrested 41-year-old Richard Howard of Preston, for DWI, Aggravated DWI & moving from a lane unsafely. Howard was charged following an investigation into a 1-car accident, where deputies accuse Howard of operating the vehicle in an intoxicated manner, he faces action in Town of Otselic Court at a later date.
The Chenango county sheriffs department arrested 44-year-old Leroy Marshall of Otselic for DWI, Aggravated DWI & failure to keep right. Marshal was stopped by officers for failing to drive on the right side of the roadway; he was processed & faces action in Town of Otselic Court at a later date.

Governor Cuomo discussed enacting gun control legislation, during his state of the state address Wednesday in Albany. The governor said that he is a gun owner himself, and this bill will have nothing to do banning legitimate hunting rifles:

The Sidney town board met last night, with supervisor Bob McCarthy, councilman Eric Wilson, and Town Attorney Joe Ermeti not in attendance. The remaining board members Tobias Whitaker, Bill Heath and Pete Cordes passed a resolution to enact a 1-year moratorium on gas drilling by hydrofracking. The resolution is being sent to the county for consideration.
The Chenango county sheriffs department is still investigating the disappearance of 36-year-old Jennifer Ramsaran of New Berlin December 11th. Ramsaran was heading to Syracuse for a shopping trip, her cell phone was found in the Town of Plymouth the following day, her minivan was found in the city of Norwich 4 days later. Anyone with information is asked to call the sheriffs department at 337-1924; all calls will be kept confidential.
State senator Jim Seward will be at the Sidney central school district today. Seward will speak with students in the particiption in government callas starting at 9:30 that will be followed by a tour of the facilities with school officials.
The joint landowners coalition of Central New York announced that they have submitted their last set of comments to the DEC on natural gas development in the state. The comments were on the topics of protecting the environment, communities, and residents, and were compiled from input by environmental scientists, petroleum & civil engineers, chemists, toxicologists, organic & traditional farmers, medical doctors & attorneys, the complete comments are available at JLCNY.org. The DEC has received thousand of comments both for and against hydrofracking, as they get ready to release the final draft regulation in the coming months.
