Delaware County partnered with local towns and villages, fire departments and EMS & they deployed 10 weather stations across the county to monitor various weather conditions. The data being collected is transmitted through a third party contractor to a server used by the national weather service to help with forecasting, issuance of weather alters and tracking climate change. The Unatego Hall of Distinction will honor this year’s inductees tonight at the Unatego High School Cafeteria with a reception 5:30 & the induction during halftime at tonight's basketball game. The Inductees are William Mitchell, a 1973 graduate, who will be honored posthumously, he earned a PhD in Computer Science from the University of Illinois, followed by a career working with applied mathematics and numerical analysis, 1983 graduate Trisha Souders-Rubin became a Licensed Clinical Social Worker, specializing in eating disorders in adolescents and adults & was a tenured faculty member at Georgetown University.

State Police responded to South Hall of the SUNY Morrisville Campus Monday afternoon at 3:45 pm, they found a 20-year-old male, who was not a student, with a gunshot wound to the neck. The victim was transported to Upstate University Hospital in Syracuse, No other injuries were reported and a suspect has not been located, the investigation is continuing. Normal class schedules resumed this morning.

51 year old Antoine Loup of Endicott was sentenced to 25 years to life, for 2nd degree Murder & Tampering with Physical Evidence. On July 8, 2023, Loup pulled up at 4 Filmore Avenue in Endicott where Aaron LeGare, and others were playing cards, LaGare approached Loup’s vehicle, an argument ensued & Loup shot LaGare in the chest & fled the scene.

28 year old Erin Hubbell of Margaretville, appeared in Delaware County Court this week & she pleaded guilty to Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance. Hubbell admitted to possessing over 500 milligrams of cocaine on January 8th in the Town of Roxbury, she faces up to 2 ½ years in state prison, Sentencing is set for June 17th.

62 year old William Evans of the Bronx appeared in Delaware County Court this week & was sentenced to state prison for Possession of a Forged Instrument. On December 26, 2023, State Police were dispatched to a Delaware County bank, where 2 individuals had attempted to cash washed checks using a stolen identity, multiple attempts to use the stolen identity to cash checks had been made at other banks, security footage determined that 1 of the suspects was Evans. Last September, a Delaware County Grand Jury indicted Evans, he pleaded guilty to the Forged Instrument charge, he will serve 1 to 3 years in prison.

State Police were dispatched last Wednesday to an accident involving a UTV in the town of Smithville. An investigation revealed that a UTV was on Waldon Road in the town of Smithville when the operator; 52 year old William Williams of Greene lost control, left the roadway, struck a tree and the UTV came to rest on its side. Williams did not survive, the unidentified 24-year-old passenger was transported to Wilson Medical Center for non-life-threatening injuries. The investigation is on-going.

Delaware County Sheriff’s Office arrested 62 year old Michael Kirby of Delhi, after a warrant was issued for his arrest by the Town of Walton Court, and the Town of Deposit Court. Deputies responded to reports of Domestic Disputes 3 times in May where Kirby violated an order of protection & had subjected the victim to physical contact. Kirby was charged with Aggravated Harassment, Criminal Contempt, Reckless endangerment & on the arrest warrants, he was remanded to the Delaware County Correctional Facility on $10,000 cash bail or $50,000 secured bond.

Broome County Sheriff's Office arrested 57 year old William MacDowall of Binghamton for Hindering Prosecution and Obstructing Governmental Administration, after hindering police from entering his residence to arrest his son, 25 year old Justin MacDowall, on an active felony bench warrant for Violation of Probation and an active arrest warrant for Strangulation. Justin MacDowall was charged with Resisting Arrest and Obstructing Governmental Administration in addition to the warrants, both men face court action shortly.
Attorney General Letitia James is leading an investigation into the February 22 AT&T outage that left many customers without service for up to 12 hours nationwide. New Yorkers affected by the service outage are encouraged to file a complaint online at att.com.

The investigation revealed that 18 year old William Mettler of Franklin was the driver of the vehicle, he was taken to a hospital, where Deputies secured a blood test to determine Mettler's blood alcohol content, Mettler also had a suspended driver’s license. Last Week, Deputies arrested Mettler for Driving with a BAC of 0.08% or higher, Aggravated Unlicensed Operation of a Motor Vehicle, as well as other traffic violations, he will appear before the Town of Franklin Court at a later date.

State Police responded to a Mercy Flight Helicopter crash in the town of Elba in Genesee County Tuesday afternoon at around 1:00 PM. Mercy Flight Bell 429 helicopter was on a training mission during the time of the collision. Mercy Flight pilot, 60 year old James Sauer of Churchville 60 year old Stewart Dietrick of Prosper, Texas were pronounced deceased at the scene. The FAA and the National Transportation Safety Board will be assisting in this investigation. The investigation is continuing into the cause of the accident.
Dr. William LeCates will leave his position as president and chief operating officer of Bassett Medical Center and northern region executive for Bassett Healthcare Network, His last day will be April 30. LeCates has been a physician for 20 years, LeCates will remain on Bassett’s medical staff and serve as an advisor to Bassett President & CEO Dr. Tommy Ibrahim.

JOHNSON CITY POLICE HAVE CHARGED HIM WITH ROBBERY IN THE FIRST DEGREE AND CRIMINAL USE OF A FIREARM IN THAT JULY BANK ROBBERY. IN TOTAL, WILLIAMS IS FACING FIVE CHARGES. Chenango Sheriff's office arrested a Village of Sherburne man for Rape in the First Degree and Rape in the Third Degree. The Detectives Division arrested Jason L. Fowlston, age 44 of the Village of Sherburne for multiple counts of Rape in the First Degree and Rape in the Third Degree. The arrest stemmed from acomplaint received involving an alleged forcible rape of a person under the age of 17 multiple times, over the course of several months. Fowlston is currently at the Chenango County Sheriff's Office awaiting arraignment.

The City of Oneonta will continue work on the catch basin replacement near the exit of the City Hall parking lot on South Main St through Friday, August 6th. State Senator Peter Oberacker today announced legislation he sponsored designating baseball as New York's official state sport has been signed into law by Governor Cuomo.    This bill was proposed by a Cooperstown Elementary School 4th grade class; Cooperstown is the home of the Baseball Hall of Fame and is believed to be the birthplace of the sport.  New York State has previously designated an official gemstone, fossil, shell, bush, salt water fish and reptile.
Governor Cuomo signed legislation designating a portion of State Route 13 in Madison County as the "Assemblyman William 'Bill' Magee Memorial Highway."  Magee served in the state Assembly from 1990 until 2018, much of that tenure, he served as the Chairman of the Assembly Agriculture Committee, he passed away on December 24, 2020, he was 81.

This week Delaware County Public Health reported 21 new cases of COVID 19; previously there have been a total of 8 breakthrough infections since June 1st.  Delaware County has 26 active cases, 2 Hospitalized & 36 quarantined, officials said that they have not received information from the state Department of Health that the Delta Variant is present in Delaware County, which is classified by the CDC as more likely to spread, cause reinfection or cause severe illness, as well as reduce vaccine effectiveness.  Currently only 47% of Delaware County residents are fully vaccinated for COVID-19, Unvaccinated individuals should get vaccinated and continue to wear a mask until they are fully vaccinated.

State Police and the Unadilla Emergency Squad responded Monday evening to Ben McCumber Road in the town of Unadilla for a report of an accidental death.   The investigation revealed that 80 year old William Marszal of Unadilla was clearing trees on the property & while pulling a downed tree, the downed tree uprooted another tree that then fell on Marszal causing head trauma.  Marszal was pronounced deceased on scene.

The National Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum announced that
they are closed to the public, in accordance with recommendations by the CDC to
limit opportunities for large gatherings and the further spread of the COVID-19
virus. The Hall of Fame will provide updated information regarding this closure

channels.  As a precautionary measure due
to the COVID-19 virus, our 2020 Hall of Fame Classic Weekend events have been
canceled.
Delaware County Officials have declared a State of Emergency
effective through Monday April 13, 2020.
The order calls for the suspension of all classroom and extracurricular
functions at all public schools, except for administrative and staff functions,
the Order shall take effect Wednesday, March 18th & will remain in effect

named Eben Bullock as the district's new Superintendent.  Bullock served as the Sidney's high school
principal for the past 10 years, will succeed Dr. William Christensen, who is
leaving the district after more than 8 years at the helm.  Bullock was approved for a 3-year contract at
the Board of Education meeting Tuesday; he will begin the position on July 1.

Delaware County Sheriff's Office arrested 3 Delhi area residents on felony drug possession charges following the execution of a high risk search warrant at a Meredith Street in Delhi. Deputies seized bulk packaged heroin and 30 bags of packaged heroin, marijuana, a scale and drug packaging paraphernalia. Investigators arrested 50-year-old Ramar Hassell and 54-year-old Valerie Alexander of Delhi for Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance, Unlawful Possession of Marijuana, Hassell was also charged with Resisting Arrest. Investigators also arrested 25-year-old William Effner of Delancey and charged him with Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance & Criminally Possessing a Hypodermic Instrument. All 3 were arraigned & were remanded to the Delaware County Jail on $100,000 cash bail pending their appearance in the Town of Delhi Court on November 9th.

A Delaware County Grand Jury handed down several Sealed Indictments Thursday relating to 3 separate narcotics trafficking investigations conducted in the Sidney and Hancock areas by the Delaware County Sheriff's Office Criminal Investigation Division.   Arrested were 36 year old Angela Huggins of Sidney, 36 year old Mark Tubbs of Sidney & 30 year old Lisa Hayslip of Oneonta for selling illegal drugs in Sidney.  4 people from Fish’s Eddy were charged, 23 year old Samantha Wren, 33 year old William Weyrauch, 29 year old Seth Appley & 29 year old Lacey Benson for allegedly selling a variety of illegal drugs in Fishes Eddy, Benson faces an additional charge of Promoting Prison Contraband, for allegedly introducing secreted hypodermic instruments into the Delaware County Correctional Facility following her arrest.  All were arraigned and were remanded to the Delaware County Jail without bail pending further court action.

Otsego County Sheriff's deputies arrested 43 year old William DeSimone & 52 year old Gabrielle Bastian of New Lisbon for animal cruelty plus Growing of the cannabis by unlicensed persons & Unlawful Possession of Marijuana. The ASPCA was contacted to seize animals; many were relocated to safety after check-ups by veterinarians. Deputies seized 50 marijuana plants & dried Marijuana, DeSimone was given an appearance ticket and released. Gabrielle Bastian was arraigned in the Town of New Lisbon Court & was released after posting bail. Both are scheduled to reappear on April 25th in the Town of New Lisbon Court.

Delaware County Sheriff’s Deputies were dispatched to a one-car roll over with property damage on Case Hill Road in Treadwell on November 6th. Deputies determined that William Rathbun’s vehicle left the roadway, entered into a ditch & rolled over and stuck a utility pole, which caused a minor power outage.
