The 2nd trial of former Assembly Speaker Sheldon Silver gets underway today in New York City. Silver was convicted of using his political influence for political favors; the conviction was tossed last summer, when appellate judges in the 2nd Circuit ruled that the definition of “official acts” had been changed by a previous Supreme Court decision in the public corruption case of former Virginia Governor Bob McDonnell.

Governor Cuomo announced nearly $2.2 million will be awarded to 34 farms across the state through the Climate Resilient Farming Grant Program, to help farms reduce their operational impact on the environment and better prepare for and recover after extreme weather events. In the Southern Tier; Chenango County Soil and Water Conservation District was awarded $77,255 to work with 6 farms to implement cover crops, which are planted to improve soil quality, reduce erosion, and to increase soil organic matter to improve resiliency during periods of flood and drought.

State Senator John DeFrancisco said Friday he will not seek re-election and plans to end his 40-year career in politics when his term expires at the end of the year. DeFrancisco had considered a run for Governor but he announced Friday that he will retire from the Senate & from politics.
