37 year old Rondell Dowdell of Endicott, pleaded guilty this morning in Broome County Court, to Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance. On July 17, 2025, Dowdell was stopped in Vestal while operating an electric bicycle in violation State Traffic Laws, a Vestal Police Department canine alerted to the presence of narcotics. A search recovered approximately 20 grams of methamphetamine, a digital scale, packaging material, and cash from suspected drug sales. Dowdell is scheduled for sentencing on October 14th, he faces 3 years in State Prison and 3 Years of post release supervision.

Oneonta Fire Department responded to a fire at 10 Luther Street Sunday morning at about 9:00 Am. all occupants escaped without injuries, there were no injuries to firefighters, the cause of the fire is under investigation, the structure was a total loss.

State Police arrested 62 year old Dawn Hawley of Delancey for Stalking, after a victim located a tracking device in their vehicle. The victim believed that Hawley had placed the tracker in December 2025 but was unable to find it until last week, Hawley was processed and was issued an appearance ticket to the Hamden Town Court on July 22, 2026.

Broome County 911 Center received multiple reports of a fire at the Knights Inn, at 2603 East Main Street in Endwell, at about 6:00 AM today, a total of 6 fatalities have been confirmed. Additional information, including the identities of the victims, will be released at a later time, 2 others were taken to Wilson Medical Center. over 70 residents have been displaced and are being assisted by the Red Cross. A temporary shelter has been set up at the Vestal United Methodist Church. Endwell Fire Department arrived to find heavy black smoke in the front of the building and flames showing from the rear of the building. The fire spread rapidly, and multiple Fire Departments, ambulance crews and police agencies arrived on scene to assist. The New York State Office of Fire, the Broome County Office of Emergency Services, Broome County Mobile Crisis Response Team is on scene, the cause of the fire is under investigation.

State Police arrested 56 year old Joel Salinas of Bainbridge following a traffic stop on Chenango County Road 35 last Tuesday. Troopers observed a vehicle committing multiple violations, initiated a traffic stop, Troopers observed a sawed-off shot gun and other illegal weapons, Salinas was driving to sell the shotgun, the investigation resulted in the seizure of several other illegally possessed weapons. Salinas was charged with multiple counts of Criminal Possession of a Weapon, Criminal Sale of a Firearm, he was processed & transported to the Chenango County Jail for Centralized Arraignment.

Sidney Fire Department was dispatched to a structure fire with smoke and flames visible Friday night at about 7:00 PM at 826 Circle Drive, heavy smoke was showing from the ridge of the roof. Sidney firefighters launched an aggressive interior and exterior attack and contained the fire to one apartment. Assistance was provided by Masonville, Unadilla, Sidney Center, Oneonta, Guilford & Harpursville fire departments, no injuries were reported, Sidney was back in service at about 8:30PM.

State Police have released the name of the operator of a motorcycle involved in a crash early Wednesday as 39 year old Warren Loza of Vestal. The Investigation revealed that Loza collided with an SUV on State route 434 in the town of Owego, the operator told Police that they did not see the motorcycle coming & pulled out of the road into the lane of traffic, the SUV operator was taken to Wilson Hospital, Loza was pronounced dead at the scene. The investigation remains on-going.
Another Sidney Community Clean-Up will be held at Keith Clark Park on Saturday, June 13. Starting time is set for 9:00 at the park pavilion. Volunteers will help variety of jobs throughout the walking trail areas. Some tools will be available, or volunteers may bring their favorite shovels, pruners or other gardening gear. At approximately 2:03 pm Wednesday, the Otsego County 911 Center received multiple calls reporting a structure fire at Dietz Street Lofts, at 34 Dietz Street in Oneonta, Units arriving on scene found smoke and flames coming from the rear of the building. Mutual aid was requested to the scene, and the fire was quickly extinguished. No serious injuries have been reported. One individual was transported for evaluation for possible smoke inhalation. Some residents have been displaced and the American Red Cross is contacting them to ensure they have access to temporary shelter. The cause of the fire is currently under investigation. Numerous area Fire Departments also responded.

State Attorney General Letitia James has released footage from the Vestal Police body-worn cameras that her office obtained as part of its ongoing investigation into the death of Eslam Hegazy, who died on February 25th following an encounter with Vestal Police Department. The video shows Police instructing Hegazy to drop his knife repeatedly, a Taser was deployed at Hegazy, who still failed to comply, 2 officers shot at him, Hegazy was taken to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead. 50 year old Paul Graham of Binghamton, was sentenced following his conviction for Assault, & Criminal Possession of a Weapon. Graham was sentenced in Broome County Court to a term of 12½ years in State Prison with 5 years of post-release supervision. The conviction stems from an incident on January 4, 2025, when officers with the Binghamton Police Department responded to a disturbance, they found a male victim suffering from a puncture wound to his chest. The victim was transported to UHS Wilson Medical Center, requiring emergency heart surgery to survive the life threatening injury.

38 year old Gregory Rivenburg of Vestal, pleaded guilty in Broome County Court to a felony Assault charge Rivenburg attempted to stab a victim on January 9, 2025, lost control of the knife, but then beat & choked the victim, Rivenburg was scheduled to begin trial but instead entered a guilty plea, the conviction will result in a 6 Year State Prison Sentence followed by 5 Years of Post Release Supervision. Sentencing is scheduled for June 12, 2026, in Broome County Court.

State Police at Homer responded On November 25, 2025, to a report of a deceased woman in the town of Cortlandville. The woman was identified as 59 year old Robin Bowman of Findlay, Ohio, Police have now determined that she had been living in her vehicle in the Cortlandville area prior to being located, the autopsy revealed that Bowman’s cause of death was exposure to the elements, causing hypothermia.
60 year old Allen Hurt of Endwell, pleaded guilty to Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in Broome County Court for possessing narcotics with intent to sell in Broome County Court. As part of the plea, Hurt will be sentenced as a 2nd time felony drug offender to 7 years in State prison, followed by 3 years of post-release supervision. On January 2, 2025, investigators executed a narcotics Search Warrant at Hurt's residence, Police seized crack cocaine, cutting agents, packaging materials, a digital scale, and $1,159 in U.S. currency.
Voters in the 16 component districts of DCMO BOCES have approved a $44.4 million capital project. The search warrant is the result of a several months-long investigation at 448 Robin Lane in the Town of Vestal. Police seized 8 pounds of cannabis, 3 pounds of cannabis concentrate plus cash, Cell Phones and a PC Tablet, they arrested 22 year old Tyler Dickerson of Endicott on multiple counts of Criminal Possession of Cannabis, and 41 year old William Dickerson of Vestal on the Cannabis charges, plus Resisting Arrest & Obstructing Governmental Administration, Both men were processed and issued appearance tickets to appear at the Vestal Town Court on February 19.

State Police at Troop C responded today to the report of a vehicle with a windshield that shattered due to ice falling off of a tractor trailer on I-81. An investigation determined that a tractor trailer and a pick-up truck were traveling north on I-81 when a slab of ice flew off the tractor trailer and fell onto the pick-up behind it, the pick-up truck’s driver side front window and windshield were shattered, the driver tractor trailer did not stop, the operator of the pick-up truck, a 23-year-old male of Camden suffered hand and facial injuries, State Police remind Motorists to brush off snow and ice off their vehicles, The investigation is on-going.
The Binghamton Rumble Ponies announced the full 2026 Promotional Schedule for the 2026 season today. There will be 15 giveaways, 12 firework shows, 7 specialty jerseys, 3 appearances and a newly introduced drone show. The Otsego County Sheriff’s Office arrested 49 year old Kunga Gyamtso following an investigation of a sexual assault that occurred in the Town of Hartwick. Gyamtso is accused of subjecting a female victim to unwanted forcible sexual acts at his residence in the Town of Hartwick. Evidence was presented to the Otsego County Grand Jury which handed down an indictment for the arrest, for Rape & Criminal Sexual Act, Gyamtso was arraigned in the Otsego County Court and remanded to the Otsego County Correctional Facility on $40,000 cash bail or $400,000 partially secured bond. The Otsego County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by the Vestal Police Department. .

State Police will be hosting a free child car seat check on Sunday, February 1, between 10 am. and 1 pm. at the Delhi Fire Department located at 140 Delview Terrace Ext. Delhi. Techs will Make sure your child’s car seat is properly installed and the right fit for their age, height and weight, they will check the car seat if there are any recalls and check its expiration. State Law requires that all children must be restrained in an appropriate child restraint system while riding in a motor vehicle until they reach their 8th birthday. A Chenango County Grand Jury indicted 21 year old Kaylub Rifanburg of Norwich for 2nd & 3rd degree criminal possession of a weapon and possession of burglar’s tools. The indictment states that on August 25, Rifanburg was stopped by Norwich Police following a report of an erratic driver, Police discovered a loaded 9mm pistol, a large-capacity magazine, and a backpack containing ski masks and a lock pick. He faces court action on the Grand Jury charges at a later date.
The Broome County Sheriff's Office and family members of a missing Vestal man are still seeking answers to help locate 69 year old Eddie Rouhana, who been missing since January 11th. Rouhana was last seen at his business, Cars-R-US, located at 1170 of Upper Front Street in the Town of Chenango. Cell phone records show his phone was last used later that same day. The Rouhana family is offering a $20,000 reward for any information that leads directly to Eddie Rouhana’s whereabouts. The Otsego County Sheriff’s Office arrested 45 year old Derek Jordan of Milford, 45 year old Keith Blush of Milford & 30 year old Ashley Goble of Milford, on a variety of drug & weapons charges, following an investigation by the Sheriff’s Office and the Otsego County Probation Department. On October 9th, Otsego County probation Officers & Deputies conducted a traffic stop on Derek Jordan, who was taken in to custody on traffic offenses, During a search of Jordan’s residence, Blush and Goble were inside the residence, they were wanted by State Police and the New Hartford Police Departments on warrants. Officers observed a firearm, drugs and drug paraphernalia, Jordan and Blush were processed and turned over to the Otsego County Correctional Facility for arraignment, Goble was issued an Appearance Ticket to the Town of Milford Court, and she was turned over to New Hartford Police Officers. The investigation is on-going and additional charges are pending.
The New York State Department of Health today released a new report showing a continued decline in tobacco use among high school students across the state. The report, shows that 1 in 6 Youth Still Use Tobacco, the lowest since tracking began in 2000. Cigarette smoking remains low, with just over 2% of students reporting current use, E-cigarette use has declined sharply to about 13%, however, Nicotine pouch use is rising, doubling from 1.5% to 3.0% since 2022.

On October 16 at 10:48 p.m., Otsego County requested Forest Ranger assistance in the search for a hunter reported missing by his spouse. The Otsego County Sheriff’s Office, Otsego County Emergency Services, Garratsville Fire Department, Laurens Fire Department, New York State Police, and New York State Park Police and staff all joined the search efforts in Gilbert Lake State Park. Otsego County Sheriff’s Deputy’s located the 67-year-old from Remsen deceased in a tree stand. Rangers used a rope system to help extricate the subject and turned them over to the county coroner, the cause of death has not been released.
State Forest Rangers assisted with Vestal Police and emergency crews in the Town of Vestal on October 15th in the search for a 86-year-old Janice Short, who was reported missing the previous afternoon. Short was known to go for walks on Tracy Creek Road. Vestal Police used a drone with heat detection capability and deployed a K9 unit with negative results. Rangers assigned linear searches of the roads and Tracy Creek, a neighbor found Short behind his house calling for help, after she had fallen into a bush, hurt her back, and saw the lights from searchers, but wasn’t strong enough or loud enough for them to hear. Rangers and Vestal Fire Department members carried the subject, she was checked out & was returned to family.

30 year old Karl Calhoun pleaded guilty in Broome County Court to Attempted Rape & Criminal Possession of a Weapon. On August 24th, Calhoun forcibly attacked a female, struck her multiple times, strangled her, and forcibly removed her clothing, she was able to resist the attack and escape to safety, the incident was captured on video surveillance, on September 5th, Vestal Police Department conducted a traffic stop on Calhoun, a search uncovered a loaded pistol with an extended magazine containing 9 live rounds, Calhoun will be sentenced to 10 years in state prison for Attempted Rape and 7 years for Criminal Possession of a Weapon, the sentences will run concurrently, and Calhoun will be required to register as a sex offender and an Order of Protection will remain in effect.
State Police are reminding the public to be aware of phone scams that tell a victim to withdraw large sums of money or buy gold bars to “protect their assets”. Scammers will call asking if the victim made a large purchase on Amazon, if they did not, the caller is told that their identity and social security number have been stolen, they are “transferred” to someone who claims to be from a credit union or a bank and advises that the victim to withdraw their money or purchase gold bars so that it can be held for “safe keeping”. The scammers will send a “courier” to collect the money or gold bars. State Police BCI announced the arrest of 41 year old Akash Thakkar of Hiawatha, New Jersey for Grand Larceny for a June 2024 larceny where scammers swindled $500,000 in gold bars, Troopers were able to identify Thakkar as the man who picked up the gold bars, he was processed & was turned over to the Tompkins County Jail for Arraignment.

25 year old Jacob Brown of Binghamton, pleaded guilty in Broome County Court to Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance, in exchange for a sentence of 8 years in State Prison, followed by 3 years of post-release supervision. On March 26th, Officers conducted a traffic stop on Bunn Hill Road in the Town of Vestal, During the course of the stop and subsequent investigation with assistance from K9 Coco, officers discovered a quarter pound of methamphetamine concealed beneath a child’s car seat, 3 children were in the vehicle at the time of the stop. Brown admitted to possessing the methamphetamine with intent to sell, officers also seized $1,242 from suspected drug sales, Sentencing is scheduled for January 15th in Broome County Court.

Troopers arrested 210 people for DWI and investigated 716 crashes, including five fatal motor vehicle crashes, Troopers issued thousands of tickets for other traffic violations, including over 3500 for speeding, over 1000 for seat belt use, and 301 for failure to obey the Move Over Law. IN troop c there were 327 ticketed for speeding, 12 for distracted driving, 67 for violating seat belt laws & 46 for violating the move over law.

State Police arrested 26 year old Calvin Verny-Rasmussen of Cortland for crimes involving children. Verny-Rasmussen’s arrest stems from a cyber tip from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children indicating that child sexual abuse material was being shared online. The Troop C Computer Crimes Unit and the Bureau of Criminal Investigation further revealed that in addition to promoting and possessing images consistent with child sexual exploitation, Verny-Rasmussen inappropriately touched a child under the age of 11, he was charged with Sexual Abuse, Promoting Sexual Performance of a Child, Possessing a Sexual Performance by a Child, and Endangering the Welfare of a Child, Verny-Rasmussen was processed and turned over to the Cortland County Jail on $5,000 cash bail or $10,000 bond.
Neal Morrison of Vestal pleaded guilty to Criminal Possession of a Weapon in Broome County Court in exchange for a sentence of 8 years in State Prison, followed by 5 years of Post Release Supervision. Morrison also pleaded guilty to Criminal Possession of a Firearm, for which he will receive a sentence of 1½ to 3 years in State Prison. The charges stem from 2 separate incidents, on April 21, Vestal officers encountered Morrison exhibiting signs of erratic behavior, he was taken into custody under Mental Health Law for evaluation. While securing his residence, officers observed a shotgun under a blanket along with a glass smoking device and a pellet gun. In May, Endicott Police Department responded to an abandoned residence, Morrison was found sleeping behind a couch, and there was an active warrant for his arrest. A search revealed a firearm in a holster, Morrison will be sentenced on October 9th in Broome County Court.
Binghamton Police, State Police & Broome County Sheriff's Deputies responded to a head on crash in Binghamton yesterday at about 4:30 PM, where 2 people died and 1 person was injured in a 3 car crash in the Court Street construction zone. The drivers of a sedan and an SUV were pronounced dead at the scene, the driver of the 3rd vehicle was taken to Wilson Hospital, Police reported that it appeared a driver tried to pass a vehicle in the construction zone where no passing is permitted, causing the fatal crash. The investigation is continuing, the names of the deceased were not released pending family notification.

All of the businesses except one were in compliance, which was Ye Olde Shanty on South Canal Street in Oxford, where a 73-year-old employee was issued an appearance ticket for Prohibited Sale of Alcohol to a Person Under 21. 10 other businesses were in compliance in Norwich, Oxford, Greene, Smithville Flats and Morris.

After an investigation, Hall turned himself into Deputies, he was released on an appearance ticket to appear in the Town of Columbus Court on a later date.
Broome County District Attorney F. Paul Battisti announced the allocation of $52,500 in funding to support enhanced summer traffic safety & community policing patrols throughout the County. The fund from the DA’s Traffic Diversion Program, will be distributed to the Binghamton, Endicott, Johnson City & Vestal Police Departments and the Broome County Sheriff Office.

State Comptroller Tom DiNapoli released his conclusion on this year's State Budget, which came to a total $254 billion, a 5.2% increase in spending. DiNapoli questioned the increase in spending when federal actions on funding to states could decrease revenues, and that could lead to a shortfall before the end of the fiscal year. The biggest items in the budget were 37.4 Billion dollars for schools & 109.6 billion for Medicaid in the Department of Health’s budget. All Funds revenues are projected to total $248.9 billion, nearly the same as last year, tax collections are projected to decrease by less than 1% to $117 billion.

28 year old Ionel Baldovin of Romania was sentenced in US District Court to 33 months in prison for his role in a bank fraud conspiracy impacting 2 area financial institutions and least 5 additional institutions across the United States. Baldovin admitted to placing skimming devices and cameras at ATMs, the devices and cameras captured ATM customers’ account information and PIN numbers, the suspects created fraudulent debit cards from the captured information, which they used to withdraw currency over $450,000 from customers’ accounts in 2017 & 2018, 4 other suspects were already sentenced, the cases were investigated by the FBI, Homeland Security, State Police, the Endicott Police and various local police departments in area counties.

The Broome County Special Investigations Unit Task Force conducted a traffic stop on Bunn Hill Road in the Town of Vestal. A search of the vehicle revealed about 4 ounces of methamphetamine under a car seat where one of the 3 children present had been sitting during the traffic stop. The operator, 25 year old Lacey Brown of Binghamton, and passenger 25 year old Jacob Brown of Binghamton, were each charged with 2nd & 3rd Degree Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance and 3 Counts of Endangering the Welfare of a Child, Child Protective Services responded to the scene to take custody of the children until they were turned over to a trusted adult. Also seized from the traffic stop was $1,242 in US currency. Both Lacey and Jacob Brown were arraigned and remanded to the Broome County Correctional Facility, where they remain in custody.
Delaware County Sheriff Deputies were dispatched in January to Liberty Street in Walton for a Trespass complaint, Deputies were advised by the owner of the property that 36-year-old Leanne Woolard was found in the storage area of the building but had left the area prior to patrols arrival, The owner previously reported Woolard had previously trespassed and was reported to Walton Police. An Arrest Warrant was issued for Criminal Trespass, On Friday Deputies located and arrested Woolard, she was processed and turned over to the Delaware County Correctional Facility for Arraignment.

The Oneonta Police Department along with the New York State Police, Otsego County District Attorneys Investigator and Norfolk Southern Railway Police are investigating an incident that occurred on the railway tracks in the City of Oneonta. In the early morning hours of Sunday, March 30, 2025, an individual was found deceased on the tracks. The cause of death is still under investigation and, while foul play has not been ruled out, there were no immediate signs of criminal activity at the scene. No further information will be released as family notifications still need to be made.

29 year old Tyler Long of Sidney was sentenced to 1 to 3 years in prison in Delaware County Court this week, for failing to abide by the terms of the Sex Offender Registry. Long had previously pleaded guilty to Failure to Register an Internet Account. Last July, the Delaware County Probation advised Sidney Police Department that Long had 6 separate unregistered email accounts that he failed to report to the Probation Department, Long’s probation supervision was terminated, and Long was sentenced to a prison term of 1 to 3 years.
Broome County Sheriff’s Deputies responded Sunday to a weapons complaint in the Town of Maine. Deputies located a female victim bleeding from her neck and proceeded with medical aid until Emergency Medical Services transported her to UHS Wilson hospital. 27 year old Shamirah Hauer of Port Crane, had been assisting the victim with putting in hair extensions for nearly an hour before she began to strike the victim with her fists and a pair of scissors, a 3rd party stopped the assault, Hauer left the scene, the male witness called 911. Vestal Police and State Police assisted & Hauer was taken into custody without further incident, she was charged with 1st degree Assault,m she was arraigned & was being held at the Broome County Correctional Facility.

19 year old Quamir Hazel of Endicott was sentenced in Broome County Court to 8.5 years in State Prison followed by 5 years of post-release supervision for Criminal Possession of a Weapon. Last August 16th in Vestal, Hazel was found to be in possession of an operable Glock 9mm firearm loaded with 18 rounds of ammunition. Hazel was originally expected to receive an 8-year sentence at today's sentencing. However, due to a petit larceny incident that occurred in the Broome County Jail, his sentence was extended by an additional 6 months.
2 incarcerated individuals were arrested this week after attacking corrections officers at the Broome County Correctional Facility in separate incidents. On Tuesday, 35 year old Aaron Raymond refused to remove clothing wrapped around his head and neck, he ignored commands, officers entered his cell, he became combative & grabbed an officer by the neck and collar and choking him, Raymond struck another officer in the face before the altercation ended. Raymond was charged with Assault on a Police Officer, 2nd degree Assault and Strangulation. Last Sunday 41 year old Michael Fiore of Binghamton, NY, attacked corrections staff while during booking for a contempt charge, Fiore refused several lawful orders to comply with the medical screening process before attacking corrections officers, kneeing 1 officer in the face and causing injury. Fiore was charged with 2nd degree Assault and Obstruction of Governmental Administration in the 2nd Degree.

State Police arrested 57 year old Todd Quick of Sidney for Aggravated Driving While Intoxicated, following a one-vehicle crash where the vehicle went off of County Highway 14 in the town of Franklin. Quick failed the Field Sobriety Tests, he was arrested and his BAC was .20. He was processed and issued appearance tickets to the Franklin Town Court on March 13th & he was released to a sober third party. State Police announced that 13 people were charged with DWI in Troop C in the period of February 10th to the 16th.
Police are investigating a crash in Oneonta Wednesday afternoon. an unidentified 94 year old woman from West Oneonta drove her car into the front of the Rite Aid Store on Chestnut Street in Oneonta, no injuries were reported.

27 year old Alison Ward of Randolph, New Jersey appeared in the Town of Colchester and pleaded guilty to Driving While Intoxicated, Ward was sentenced to a 1-year conditional discharge, she will have to attend a Victim Impact Panel, complete an Impaired Driver Program, her license was revoked for 6 months, and an ignition interlock device will have to be installed on any vehicle she drives for a minimum of one year, if she violates the terms she could be re-sentenced to 1 year in jail. On July 14, 2023, Ward was pulled over by Town of Colchester Police after she crossed the double yellow line on State Highway 206, nearly striking a pickup truck head on, she failed Field Sobriety Tests at the scene.

New York State Department of Health’s computer system improperly paid $16.2 million in Medicaid claims during a 6-month period that started in October 2023, according to an audit released today by State Comptroller Tom DiNapoli. Overall, the audit found 370 million claims were processed between October 2023 through March 2024, totaling nearly $49.6 billion.

Broome County Sheriff's Office arrested 18 year old Steven Cook of Vestal for Attempted Use of a Child in a Sexual Performance, Endangering the Welfare of a Child, Obstruction of Governmental Administration, Cook is accused of soliciting pornographic images from a 12-year-old girl. Deputies responded last week to a 911 report from a 12-year-old victim in the Town of Union, who informed investigators that she had been talking and exchanging explicit messages with Cook where he allegedly attempted to initiate sexual contact with the minor and attempting to solicit pornographic images from her. During the execution of a search warrant, Cook was uncooperative with investigators, but was eventually taken into custody, Cook remains in the custody of the Broome County Sheriff’s Office awaiting arraignment.
National Baseball Hall of Fame Chairman of the Board Jane Forbes Clark announced that a Hank Aaron statue will be unveiled at the National Baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown on May 23. The bronze representation of Aaron will be installed on the first floor of the Museum. Aaron was elected to the Hall of Fame in 1982 following a 23-year big league career with the Braves and Brewers, Aaron launched his 715th career home run 50 years ago today. A raccoon tested positive for rabies in the town of Meredith. This is the first laboratory confirmed positive case of rabies in Delaware County in 2024. A rabid raccoon entered a cow barn in the town of Meredith and attacked and bit a cow. The raccoon was sent for testing to the State Department of Health Wadsworth Laboratory. The cow that was attacked and bitten has been euthanized. There were no human exposures, and no other domestic animals were exposed to the rabid raccoon. 4 people were injured yesterday when a vehicle crashed into the White Rose day Spa on the Vestal Road Wednesday afternoon. 4 people were taken to area hospitals after the crash with non-life threatening injuries, the vehicle was a courtesy rental from Miller Honda nearby, the investigation is continuing.
Cortland County Deputies were attempting service at 171 Homer Avenue in the City of Cortland, Monday, they were confronted at the door by a male subject with gun, and the Cortland City Police Department and State Police responded to assist. Multiple unsuccessful attempts were made to deescalate the situation and the subject fired upon the Officers. Gunfire was exchanged within the residence and the subject was struck, he was transported to Upstate Medical Center in Syracuse, where he currently remains in stable condition. No Officers were hurt and the State Police have assumed control of the investigation.

On August 1st, 2022, Brigham entered the Vestal Walmart selected a backpack and miscellaneous merchandise. When an employee attempted to retrieve the stolen merchandise, Brigham pulled out a small aerosol can and threatened to pepper spray the employee. Brigham will be sentenced in Broome County Court on April 12th to 1.5 to 3 years at a state prison.

Chenango Memorial Hospital is closing the long-term care unit located on the hospital’s second floor as of January 31st. CMH will no longer be accepting new residents and, over the next 2 months, they will work closely with our residents and their families to ensure their placement in other long-term care facilities. 19 residents are currently at the facility, and employees of the facility will be transferred to other positions across the Hospital's departments. 2 people were arrested following a traffic stop in Norwich regarding a stolen motorcycle, that led to a chase that ended in Unadilla. Norwich Police had attempted a traffic stop, the driver, Cody McCrady of Chenango Forks & passenger, Nichole Wiggins of Greene, fled. The pair were taken into custody in Unadilla. The investigation revealed that the Motorcycle was stolen from Manlius and the license plates were reported stolen from Johnson City. The Broome County Sheriff’s Office announced an update following the issuing of an Executive Order By County Executive Jason Garnar last week, that prohibits hotels and multiple dwellings from contracting with municipalities to house large groups of individuals. The Sheriff’s Office learned that a least 2 local hotels in Vestal were contacted by a New York City officials 2 days before the executive order, to try to house migrants then in New York City, to Broome County, both hotels declined. Sheriff Fred Akshar stated that they began their investigation prior to the state of emergency declaration & Deputies are continuing to monitor the situation and have been ordered to turn away any vehicles involved in exporting the migrants.
The Broome County Sheriff’s Office announced an update following the issuing of an Executive Order By County Executive Jason Garnar last week, that prohibits hotels and multiple dwellings from contracting with municipalities to house large groups of individuals. The Sheriff’s Office learned that a least 2 local hotels in Vestal were contacted by a New York City officials 2 days before the executive order, to try to house migrants then in New York City, to Broome County, both hotels declined. Sheriff Fred Akshar stated that they began their investigation prior to the state of emergency declaration & Deputies are continuing to monitor the situation and have been ordered to turn away any vehicles involved in exporting the migrants.
Delhi Village Police, assisted by the Delaware County Sheriff’s Office and the State Police Computer Crimes Unit executed a search warrant at 2 residences in the Town of Walton, where a quantity of electronic devices was seized by the police. Officers arrested former Waton Town Supervisor Joseph Hanley on a Sealed Indictment Warrant issued by the Delaware County Supreme Court, he was charged by Grand Jury indictment with Attempted Endangering the Welfare of a Child and Attempted Disseminating Indecent Material to a Minor. Hanley was remanded to the Delaware County Jail pending arraignment before the Delaware County Supreme Court.
