State tax receipts totaled $85.8 billion through three quarters of the State Fiscal Year (SFY) 2025-26, $2.3 billion higher than estimates released in the Division of Budget’s Mid-Year Update, according to the State Comptroller's Office. In Broome County, the Town of Chenango will receive $560,000 construct a salt storage facility, The Friends of the Upper Delaware River, receives $458,537 to conduct an in-stream stabilization and floodplain reconnection project to improve flood resiliency, aquatic habitat, and water quality in the Upper Delaware River Watershed, and Broome County will receive $400,000 to purchase a new vacuum truck to reduce sediment flow from catch basins discharging into the Minor Tributaries to Lower North Susquehanna River and ultimately the Chesapeake Bay watershed.

Governor Hochul announced that $25 million has been awarded to help New York’s farmers support agricultural water quality conservation projects. Locally, $300,375 was awarded to the Chenango County Soil and Water Conservation District to work with a farm in the Upper Susquehanna River Watershed, $1,534,136 was awarded to the Delaware County Soil and Water Conservation District to work with 3 farms in the Delaware River Watershed and Upper Susquehanna River Watershed.
Bassett Medical Center in Cooperstown has begun the next phase of its project to construct a childcare center on the hospital’s campus, which is expected to be completed in spring 2026. The facility will be called the Harrison House Childcare Center in honor of Dr. Francis Harrison, an internist who joined Bassett in 1928, The new facility will be at 1 Beaver Street & it will have space for 58 children, plus 15 additional spots for sick care. The center will employ around 18 staff members.

The 4th annual Upper Susquehanna Watershed Forum is being
held at Binghamton University Center of Excellence today from 9:00 AM t0 5:00
PM. The program will focus on how to move
forward with the Phase III Chesapeake Bay Watershed Implementation Plan. Otsego County Conservation Association is
planning the forum in partnership with the Upper Susquehanna Coalition, Otsego
Land Trust, SUNY Oneonta, Binghamton University, among others. This year’s forum includes morning and
afternoon sessions covering research in the watershed, innovative practices to
enhance water quality; more information is available at occainfo.org/watershed

Route 10 in the Village and Town of Deposit. Crews are going to begin pavement
milling in the area of the Exit 84 Ramps and work North on State Route 10
through the Village. This project will take multiple days to complete. There will be single lane alternating traffic
during construction hours with flaggers in place. Please use caution in the
area and expect delays.

The Upper Susquehanna Watershed Project held annual conference at Sidney High School this afternoon, to present the projects of 7 students who collected data for a variety of projects all tied to the water quality of the Susquehanna River Basin. Sidney Science Teacher Rich Townsend said that this summer, soil gauges were added:

Townsend said the data from the new soil gauges should give sufficient data on how the water saturation affects area-flooding issues over the next 1 to 5 years.

The Upper Susquehanna Watershed Project will hold its annual conference at 1:00 PM in Room N509 at Sidney High School. Students and teachers from the project will present reports on their research on the upper Susquehanna River basin. There will also be updates by faculty on Sidney High School’s Flood Monitoring Project. The public is invited to attend. Refreshments will be served.

Students and teachers from the project will present reports on their research on the chemistry, biology,& hydrometeorology of the upper Susquehanna River basin. The project is an effort between area high schools from Cooperstown to Afton, and is directed by teachers from Sidney High School. The program is funded by ACCO & private donations. The public is invited encouraged to attend.
