Admission and parking passes for The 2026 Great New York State Fair are now on sale, single admission ticket costs $8 and includes access to all grounds entertainment, agricultural exhibits, live demonstrations, and the Chevrolet Music Series, Parking for the Fair costs $12. Advance tickets for The Fair’s famous Midway, operated by Wade Shows, will go on sale in the coming weeks. State Police gave an update regarding I-88, which remains closed in both directions between Unadilla (exit 10) and Otego (exit 12) due to considerable erosion under the highway in the median impacting both eastbound and westbound lanes. Emergency repairs are underway. I-88 will remain closed until New York State Department of Transportation engineers determine the roadway is safe to reopen. A 9.5 mile detour is in place along State Route 7 to reconnect motorists back to the Interstate.
A great turnout was reported last weekend in Norwich for the Luszi's Legacy fundraiser, to raise money to help families get assistance for veterinary help for their older pets in need, Organizer Anett Slater comments:

31 year old Thomas Harris of Unadilla, pleaded guilty to 4th degree Arson, on June 4, 2022, State Police responded to reports of a structure fire in the Town of Sidney. Upon arrival, the Troopers discovered several broken and intact beer bottles, some of which contained gasoline, a victim stated that Harris threw the bottles, starting the fire. The Bottles were tested, the results confirmed the presence of Harris’ DNA on the bottles. Harris will be sentenced to five years of felony probation supervision when sentenced at a later date.
Governor Kathy Hochul at the Great New York State Fair today signed an Executive Order directing State agencies to increase the percentage of food sourced from New York farmers and producers to 30 percent of their total purchases within five years. The Governor also signed legislation to bring together students at the New York State Fair to develop innovative agricultural technologies as well as legislation to support smaller and newer fairs across the state while promoting youth involvement in agriculture and domestic arts.

A noon time thunderstorm caused problems around the region earlier today. 1 tree was down at Route 7 & The I-88 Access Road by Exit 10 in Unadilla, traffic was diverted away from the area, also NYSEG reported about 400 customers were without power in Bainbridge, Afton & Guilford, at around Noon, another 655 were without power in Unadilla after a transformer blew at about 1:20PM, that forced the Unadilla Town Court to postpone tonight's expected Court session.

Delaware County Department of Emergency Services has received a shipment of disposable masks from the State and starting today, they are being distributed to a variety of locations in the County. The masks can be found in Delhi at the Price Chopper & County Office Buildings, in Walton at the Big M & Delaware County Mental Health Facility, in Deposit at the Big M & DMV office & in Sidney at the Price Chopper, Great American and DMV. The masks will be free to anyone in the community and will be on a first come first serve basis.
New York’s ban on single-use Styrofoam food and beverage containers, as well as ‘packing peanuts,’ takes effect Saturday. The new law allows a civil penalty of up to $250 for the first offense, $500 for the second in the same calendar year, and $1000 for the third and subsequent violations in the same calendar year.

State Police have identified the Trooper who fired his issued firearm Last Wednesday in Unadilla as Trooper Justin Miller, who has been a trooper since 2016. Trooper Miller responded on December 22 to a domestic dispute in Unadilla, he was confronted by Mark Beilby who was armed with a knife inside the home. Beilby did not comply with Trooper Miller’s repeated commands to drop the knife and advanced at the trooper, Trooper Miller discharged his firearm, striking Beilby, and then administered first aid, Beilby was first takn to AO Fox Hospital’s Tri-Town Campus in Sidney & then to Wilson Hospital in Johnson City, where he was pronounced deceased. The State Attorney General’s Office is investigating the incident.

Governor Cuomo signed legislation requiring banking institutions that maintain checking accounts to pay checks in the order they are received. If a bank receives a check for a greater amount of money than the balance in the account, it may decline to pay the check. However, the banking institution must honor any smaller checks that can be paid with the existing account balance. Previously, if a banking institution receives a check for a larger amount of money than the funds in the account, it will not only dishonor that check, but all subsequent checks, even if there are sufficient funds in the account to pay them.
Sidney Police Department responded early this morning to the area of Great American for a report of a person causing a disturbance. Upon arrival officers located 38 year old Bobbi Worden, who is alleged to have caused damage to a vehicle, she became combative when officers attempted to take her into custody. Worden was charged with Criminal mischief, Resisting arrest, Obstruction of governmental administration, she was released on an appearance ticket for Village of Sidney Court at a later date.
The Chenango Blues Festival begins tonight in the East Park in Downtown Norwich with a free show starting at 7:00 PM tonight, with Friday Night's concert at the Chenango County Fair Grounds in Norwich, the Friday show is Free to all but unvaccinated individuals should wear a mask and social distance. State Police responded to the report of a pedestrian struck
by a car on County Route 11 in the town of Unadilla Saturday.  69 year old Susan Haney of Unadilla was
struck by a vehicle driven by 34 year old Nicole Wilber of Unadilla, who
stopped & called police.  Haney was
airlifted to Upstate medical center in Syracuse with Head & leg injuries
& internal bleeding.  The
investigation is continuing.
Plans are in the works for Halos to purchase the former
Afton Great American Building, rent some space to entrepreneurs & setting
up an office for their non-profit organization.

State Police arrested 53 year old Michael Kane of Bainbridge for DWI, after a trooper monitoring traffic on State Highway 7 in the town of Unadilla observed the vehicle that Kane was operating to have an equipment violation. After a traffic stop was initiated, Kane was arrested and released on appearance tickets returnable to the town of Unadilla Court on November 19th.

Unadilla Valley Central School District confirms that they went into a lock-down late Tuesday morning after an alleged threat reported in the Otselic Valley School District. Unadilla Valley went on a lock-down after 2 students reported an audio recording of a threatened act of violence against a school, was allegedly made by a Unadilla Valley student. Chenango County sheriff’s Deputies responded, the student who made the threat was located and a search of that student’s locker revealed no weapons or contraband & the lockdown was lifted about 30 minutes later. State Police arrested 31-year-old Christen Young of Unadilla for Resisting Arrest, Stalking, Criminal Contempt and Harassment. Young allegedly violated a court order of protection, & she had been in a course of conduct that caused the protected person to fear for his employment and career. Young physically resisted being arrested and handcuffed; she kicked a trooper in the ankle at Police Barracks. Young was arraigned and was remanded to the Delaware county jail on $1,500 cash bail or $3,000 property bond. She faces action in Kortright, Unadilla & Oneonta courts shortly.

State Troopers at Oneonta arrested 26-year-old Jason Harageones of Unadilla for 2 counts of criminal mischief and 2nd degree harassment. The arrest resulted from a dispute on River Street in Otego; Harageones was issued a ticket returnable to the Otego town court.
