A recent report by State Comptroller Tom DiNapoli examined healthcare professional shortages in 16 rural counties in New York state, including Chenango & Delaware Counties locally, and found shortfalls in primary care, pediatric, and obstetrician and OBGYN doctors, Chenango Memorial Hospital's new President & CEO Cecil Miller told WCDO News how they will try to correct that:

Nyseg reported that about 3600 customers were still without power this afternoon, following last night's thunderstorms that downed trees & power-lines across the state. Crews are working to get power back on before another round of potentially destructive thunderstorms again tonight.
State Police arrested 44 year old Erica Miller of Unadilla Saturday night, for Driving While Ability Impaired by Drugs. Troopers were dispatched to the Speedway at State Routes 7 and 8 for a report of a female passed out inside a vehicle while at the pumps. Troopers then observed the same vehicle traveling erratically on State Highway 7, Troopers conducted a traffic stop & after performing Standardized Field Sobriety Tests, Miller was arrested & was processed and issued appearance tickets to the Unadilla Town Court on August 20th.
Delaware County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigation Division received a forcible touching complaint last month, their Preliminary investigation revealed that 63-year-old Michael Kudrewicz of Delhi allegedly forcibly touched another person, on July 10th, Investigators with the Delaware County Sheriff’s Office arrested Kudrewicz for 1 count of Forcible Touching, An Order of Protection was also issued by the court, prohibiting Kudrewicz from having any contact with the victim. Kudrewicz was later released & he will reappear at the Town of Delhi Court at a later date to answer the charge.
State tax receipts totaled $29.9 billion through the 1st quarter of the current State Fiscal Year, which is 594 million higher than Budget Department estimates according to the the State Comptroller's office. Sales tax receipts increased by 0.4%, in the month of June over last year. The State’s General Fund ended June with a balance of $49.6 billion, $2.1 billion higher than projected & $5.4 billion higher than last year, due to higher than anticipated tax collections and lower than anticipated spending.
Delaware County Office for the Aging will be in Sidney on Thursday, July 18th distributing Farmer's market coupons to those 60+ in age. They will be at the Sidney Civic Center from 10:30 am - 12:30 pm & at Sidney Senior Village from 1 pm - 2:30 pm.

Early Saturday at 2:04 AM the City of Norwich Fire Department was dispatched for the report of a structure fire involving a “carport” at 19 Miller Street in the City, firefighters found a working house fire, a single occupant was located at a 2nd floor window, jumped from the window & was taken to Chenango Memorial Hospital & was transported to University Hospital in Syracuse, listed in critical condition. Norwich Fire Department was assisted by the North Norwich & Oxford Fire Departments, Norwich Fire Chief Jan Papelino said that several tenants did escape, but 2 adult individuals were deceased. The investigation into the incident is still on going, with the City of Norwich Police Department, and the Chenango County Office Emergency Services Fire Investigation Unit.

Delaware County Sheriff's office arrested Thomas Taranto of South New Berlin for DWI, on State Highway 8 in the Town of Masonville. On January 11th, Deputies observed a vehicle traveling at 72 miles per hour in a 55 miles per hour zone, they performed a traffic stop & charged Taranto with driving while ability impaired by drugs, Speeding, obstructed plate, & Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance, Taranto released on the traffic tickets and an appearance ticket and is scheduled to appear in the Town of Masonville Court at a later date to answer the charges.

The heavy rain has slowed down & is changing over to snow showers in some location this afternoon, local Meteorologist Rich Townsend told WCDO News that there could be some isolated minor flooding:

Delaware County DPW Commissioner Jim Thomas reported some roads were flooded earlier today, including State Route 357, which was closed between County Route 14 and State Route 28 in Franklin, also Flooding on State Route 10 slowed traffic between Peaks Brook Road in Delhi and County Route 16, 1 lane traffic was being directed by DOT flaggers, County Route 18 above Delhi & County Route 9 were also closed earlier this afternoon. The Otsego County Sheriff's office announced road closures at Piermott Lane and Wileytown Road in the Town of Hartwick, County Highway 48 between Chamberlain Hill and Downey Road Spur in Otego, County Highway 4 between Mill Street and Hilton Street in the Town of Butternuts, County Highway 29 in the town of Springfield & Miller Road in the Town of Pittsfield. State Police have arrested 39 year old Kysha Radcliff of Dryden, for 1st degree Kidnapping, in connection with the kidnapping & murder case of Thomas Rath of Ithaca. Rath disappeared from a homeless encampment earlier this year, he remains were found last month & so far the investigation has resulted in 11 arrests. State Police said that the investigation continues.
The Norwich Theatre Company will perform the Neil Simon classic "Barefoot In The Park" next month, at the Martin W. Kappel Theatre in Norwich, Chenango Arts Council spokesperson Mary Beth Miller said that the tickets will be available tomorrow & auditions will be later this week:

The Chenango county sheriff's department arrested 20-year-old Thomas Knickerbocker of Sherburne on charges of 2nd degree Rape, Criminal Sexual Act, Possessing a Sexual Performance by a Child, Disseminating Indecent Material to a Minor, and Endangering the Welfare of a Child. Knickerbocker was charged in the Town of North Norwich, he is accused of engaging in sexual conduct with a 13-year-old victim in a vehicle & sending indecent material to the victim through the Internet; he was arraigned & was remanded to the Chenango County Correctional Facility on $1,000 cash bail.
Oneonta Mayor Dick Miller has called a special meeting of the Common Council for tonight at 7:00 PM. The meeting was called to discuss the city manager search committee and whether membership of the committee will be expanded to include community members. The meeting will be held in Common Council chambers at City Hall and the public is welcome.

The Chenango county sheriffs department arrested 37 year old Thomas Miller & 33 year old Kristin Miller of Norwich for 1- Count each of 2nd degree Rape, 2nd degree Criminal Sexual Act & Endangering the Welfare of a child. The arrests followed an investigation involving a child less than 15 years of age; the Miller’s were arraigned and remanded to the Chenango County Correctional Facility each on $25,000 cash bail to reappear at Norwich court at later date.
