In New York State, more than 80% of women breast-feed their newborn children. That number drops to less than 60% after 6 months. The state health department, along with the Southern Tier Breast Feeding Coalition, unveiled a new health initiative to promote breast-feeding, and warn mothers about the negatives of using baby formula as a substitute. formula is associated with more ear infections, diarrhea, pneumonia, more hospitalizations and a greater risk of sudden infant death syndrome."
