The Village of Sidney announced that the Village Clerk’s office will be open starting Monday, they will operate out of the Former DMV office in the Sidney Civic Center until ceiling repairs are completed in the regular clerk’s office.

47 year old Neil Wesley was sentenced to 25 years in prison for receipt and possession of child pornography in US District Court. As part of his guilty plea, Wesley admitted he had been previously convicted of rape in New York in 2001, he also admitted that from at least December 2024 through February 2025 he received and distributed child pornography & he possessed over 200 images and 18 videos of child pornography. In addition to the 25-year imprisonment term, United States District Judge Anthony J. Brindisi imposed 15 years of supervised release, forfeiture and directed restitution to victims of the offense.

The annual Shop With a Cop event is on December 14th this year in Otsego County, where members from the Sheriff's Office, Oneonta Police Department, Cooperstown Police Department, and NYS University Police at Oneonta will be Christmas Shopping with area students. The Village of Sidney announced that the Village Clerks office is closed Today in observance of Veterans Day. The office will reopen Wednesday. Also, Due to unforeseen circumstances Village brush pickup has been extended 1 more week, until this Friday.

The Otsego County Sheriff’s announces the arrest of 31 year old Marcus Borggreen & 26 year old Destiny Grant both of Mt. Upton, following a trespass complaint in the Town of Westford. Deputies were dispatched to a residence for a report of 2 subjects, they were located inside the basement of the residence, and were detained and were in possession of MDMA, narcotic drugs, and several weapons. the pair are facing numerous drug & weapons charges & were transported to the Sheriff’s Office and were turned over to the Jail to be held for Arraignment.

The Sidney Police Department executed an arrest warrant on 37 year old Barry Bradt of Unadilla, following an investigation into a level 3 registered sex offender failing to register his address with the State Sex Offender Registry, as required by law. Bradt is accused of registering with the Sidney Police Department and the state Registry as living at an address in the Village of Sidney, while physically residing at an address in Unadilla. Bradt was charged with Failure to register change of address within 10 days & Offering a false instrument for filing, he was arraigned in Village of Sidney Court & he was remanded to the Delaware County Jail on $5000 bail.

Delaware County Sheriff’s Office Arrested 24 year old Jake Vanwagner of Hobart for speeding & Aggravated Unlicensed Operation of a motor vehicle. Vanwagner was stopped by deputies Tuesday night, he is scheduled to appear at the Town of Davenport Court at a later date to answer the charges.

State Police at Sidney were dispatched last night at about 7:00 PM, to a report of a domestic dispute at a residence on Lyons Street in the village of Unadilla. The responding trooper was confronted by 24 year old Mark Beilby, who was armed with a knife inside the home. Beilby did not comply with the trooper’s repeated commands to drop the knife and advanced at the trooper. The trooper discharged his issued firearm, striking Beilby, who was transported to Tri-Town Hospital then transferred to Wilson Medical Center where he was pronounced deceased. The New York State Attorney General’s Office is investigating the incident.

State Police will be holding a car seat check on December 23, from 3:00 to 6:00 PM at the Troop C Headquarters on State Route 7 between Sidney & Unadilla. Certified Passenger Safety Technicians will install, inspect and/or check your child car seats for free. Appointments are preferred; at 561-7604, however, drive-ups will not be turned away.
The Sidney Town Clerks office will be closed Today at noon and will reopen Monday December 27th. They will also be closed December 30th at noon and will reopen Monday January 3rd.

23-year-old Caden Cruz of Oxford pleaded guilty to a number of charges in Chenango County Court Thursday. Cruz was originally charged last March with 2nd degree Assault, resisting arrest, & criminal possession of a hypodermic instrument. Cruz was arrested by Norwich Police following a foot pursuit on March 1st; he was also accused of striking the first responding Police officer. He faces sentencing shortly.
The Village of Sidney announced that sign ups For recreational spring sports are currently underway. sign ups are available for Major & minor League Baseball, Quad County Softball, Coed Peewee ball & t-ball. forms are not being mailed out, but are available at the Sidney Elementary school, the village clerks office or online at villageofsidney.org, forms must be submitted by March 10th.
State Police arrested 22 year old Joshua Fuller of Windsor for 3rd degree Grand Larceny, after troopers were requested to assist the Binghamton Police Community Response Team with a traffic stop. Binghamton Police officers discovered over $20,000 dollars in cash & savings bonds that did not belong to Fuller or his passengers. Troopers determined that Fuller had recently stolen over $40,000 from a home while he was working for the owner. Fuller was arraigned in the Town of Union Court and was remanded to the Broome County Jail with no bail set. His next court date is pending.
A Valentine Pancake Breakfast will be held Sunday morning at the Sidney Center Fire Hall. The event will run from 8:00 AM to 11:00 AM, it is hosted by the Sidney Center Ladies Auxiliary.
