Chobani had their new site plan changes approved by the Rome Planning Board on Tuesday night, as they continue with their expansion plans in New York State. Chobani was leasing over 168 acres on a golf course from Oneida County, but the acreage has been reduced to 93 acres in the new plan, Chobani plans to have the new facility running in 2027, with construction expected to be completed by the end of this year.

40 year old Mark Archer of Sidney pleaded guilty to 3 counts of Sexual Abuse in Delaware County Court Thursday. Archer was indicted by a Grand Jury on 12 counts related to sexual abuse against 3 victims were less than 13 years old between 2013 and 2019 in the Village of Sidney, Archer will be sentenced to 13.5 years in state prison and 30 years of post-release supervision, he will be required to register as a sex offender after prison & he is prohibited from contacting his victims.

The County Department of Probation filed a revocation petition alleging Irimescu violated the terms by failing a required drug screening. Oneonta Fire Department responded at about 1:30 this morning to a structure fire at 5 Grand Street. An Occupant in 1 of the apartments reported a kitchen fire, crews found light smoke showing from the exterior of the building, they encountered heavy smoke and poor visibility on the 2nd floor, they located the involved apartment and quickly extinguished the fire. The Department reported that all 6 residents from the 3 affected apartments have been displaced and will remain so until repairs can be completed. 1 occupant was taken to A.O. Fox Hospital for evaluation, 1 resident's cat perished in the fire. Assistance was provided by the Sidney Fire Department FAST Team, West Oneonta Fire Department was on stand-by, the cause of the fire is currently under investigation.

State Comptroller Tom DiNapoli's auditors found that New York state bought hundreds of millions of dollars' worth of medical equipment at the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, that now sits unused in storage facilities. To compete for the purchase of the medical equipment at the start of the pandemic, Then Governor Cuomo took emergency steps to accelerate the procurement process, inconsistent with Office of General Services guidance. DiNapoli's auditors determined the state paid $452.8 million to purchase 247,343 Medical items & machines, only 324 of those items were distributed, the audit recommends that the state distribute the items to hospitals & medical providers who may be able to use them, and stop paying for excessive storage fees for those items.

Otsego County Sheriff's Office arrested 38 year old Stanley Kingston of Albany, following a traffic stop on July 26, in the Town of Oneonta. Kingston was charged with Aggravated Driving While Intoxicated, DWI, with a previous conviction within 10 years, 2 counts of Aggravated Unlicensed Operation, driving a vehicle without Ignition Interlock Device, among other charges, Kingston had a revoked license, he was released with appearance tickets for Oneonta Town court at a later date.

The Delaware County Sheriff's Office arrested 43 year old James Nash of Sidney on an arrest warrant from the Delaware County Family Court. On July 18th, the Sheriff’s Office was notified by the Village of Sidney Police Department that Nash was currently in their custody for an unrelated warrant issued by the Village of Sidney Court. In January of 2023 the Delaware County Family Court issued an arrest warrant for Nash for failure to pay child support, Nash was brought to Delaware County Central Arraignment where he was held pending arraignment by the Delaware County Family Court.

Motor vehicle fatalities in New York state rose 25.8% from 2019-2022, the highest level in a decade, as the number of vehicle miles travelled, licensed drivers, and traffic accidents have declined, according to a report by State Comptroller Tom DiNapoli. There were 1,175 traffic fatalities in New York in 2022, which was the highest number since 2013. This increase coincides with a 7% decrease in vehicle miles travelled and a 12.5% decline in traffic accidents in New York in this period. Regionally, the North County had the highest per capita fatality rate in 2022 at 12.9 per 100,000 people.

The Delaware County Sheriff’s Office arrested 37-year-old Nikita Kingsbury of Oneonta after she agreed to meet a confidential informant in Davenport for the purposes of selling controlled substances. Kingsbury arrived with her boyfriend, 43-year-old Lloyd Hunt, they were both taken into custody, they were in possession of Fentanyl and Suboxone at the time of their arrest. Hunt was charged with Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance and was released on an appearance ticket, Kingsbury was arrested on an unrelated Bench Warrant issued by Delaware County Court for a failure to appear in Court, she was remanded to the Delaware County Jail without bail. Last Week, Delaware County Sheriff’s Office arrested Kingsbury at the Delaware County Jail for Attempted Criminal Sale of a Controlled Substance and Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance, she was arraigned and was remanded to the Delaware County Jail.
