Delaware County Department of Emergency Services announced today that the fire at the former Rexmere Hotel in Stamford on Tuesday is being investigated by the Delaware County Cause & Origin Team, Delaware County Emergency Management and the New York State Office of Fire Prevention and Control. Due to the size of the structure the investigation is ongoing and no determination has yet been made for a cause.  24 fire companies from 4 counties responded, along with 4 law enforcement agencies, with 4 million gallons of water poured on the massive structure.

Over 300 firefighters responded to the 6-alarm fire at the 7-story Rexmere Hotel on west Main Street in Stamford yesterday. The building was constructed in 1898, and was currently in the process of being sold for eventual restoration.  10 fire departments responded to the blaze, which was reported about 10:30 Tuesday morning.  The cause of the fire is under investigation, no injuries were reported.

Firefighters have responded to a fully involved structure fire at 159 west Main Street in Stamford this morning.  The building is known locally as the Cyr building, formerly the Rexmere Hotel, several area fire companies have responded.  WCDO will have further details as they become available.
