State DEC announced several changes to deer hunting regulations to increase harvest of female deer and improve DEC’s ability to manage abundant deer populations. Under the new system, all hunters will receive a first Antlered Deer Tag which can be used during any season, except the September antlerless season. Hunters who harvest and report an antlerless deer, will be eligible to receive a second Antlered Deer Tag, More information is available at dec.ny.gov/things-to-do/hunting.

The Delaware County Sheriff’s Office is seeking the public’s assistance in locating 40 year old Barbara Brooke Walley, who is wanted on a Bench Warrant issued by Delaware County Court. New York State Department of Agriculture & Markets has put new rules in place for bringing domestic animals into the State to stop the spread of the New World Screwworm after cases were found in Texas and New Mexico. The State is restricting the movement of livestock and pets from areas affected or suspected to be affected by the parasite, so far there have been no cases detected in New York. The new order requires extra veterinary testing, proof of good health, and preventative treatment for animals coming from impacted areas.

Binghamton Police Department arrested 53 year old Stanley DeGroat of Binghamton and 47 year old Brett White of Binghamton, following a shooting. DeGroat was charged with Attempted murder, Criminal possession of a weapon, Criminal contempt & 4 counts of endangering the welfare of a child, White was charged with 8 counts of criminal possession of a weapon, following an incident Sunday, where DeGroat fired a shot that grazed the victim's hand, he fled the scene on a bicycle, he was located & taken into custody. Search warrants were obtained & executed at 2 locations, Officers found several rifles, shotguns, and 2 illegally possessed handguns, which led to White's arrest. Both face court action shortly, more charges may be forthcoming.

Otsego County Sheriff's Office arrested 61 year old Cathleen Mann of Burlington for 11 counts of Criminal Contempt plus Attempted Criminal Contempt . Mann is accused of violating an order of protection multiple times, she was released on an appearance ticket for Town of Maryland Court.

The Oneonta Fire Department responded to the report of a fire at the new Dietz Street Lofts in Oneonta, at about 2:00 PM this afternoon. mutual aid was requester from fire departments in Otego, West Oneonta, Laurens and Milford, Videos from scene showed flames on the roof of one of the buildings. Governor Kathy Hochul announced a $63.5 million infrastructure project targeting roadways across the Southern Tier and western parts of the state. Locally In Otsego County, a $5.5 million safety initiative will be spent on installing a new sidewalk and drainage system upgrades along State Route 28 in Cooperstown. Transportation officials warn local commuters to prepare for ongoing lane adjustments, reduced speeds, and alternating ramp closures throughout the construction zones.

The Broome County Sheriff’s Office and the Broome County Health Department provided an update on the response to the outbreak of Salmonella that hit the Broome County Correctional Facility earlier this week. Over 300 incarcerated individuals reporting gastrointestinal illness since Monday, 10 were hospitalized, Dozens of medical and healthcare workers responded, hundreds of bottles of water were sent, antibiotics were provided, After it was determined that Salmonella was what affected the inmates, On Thursday, Servpro completed a deep cleaning of all kitchen, programming areas, hallways and common areas within the Correctional Facility. All laundry and linens have been thoroughly cleaned and sanitized. Today, regular schedules resumed, visitation hours return on Monday morning.

Otsego County Sheriff’s Office arrested 24 year old Alexander Gutierrez of Milford & 28 year old Jordan Gutierrez-Champen for Introducing dangerous contraband in to prison & Conspiracy, following an investigation into suspicious activity in the Otsego County Jail in 2025. Investigators were notified by corrections staff that they had intercepted a letter hidden in a bible which detailed the receipt of contraband by mail to an inmate, they obtained a search warrant for Gutierrez-Champen’s mail, a page had been saturated with a controlled substance later identified as a synthetic cannabis known as “K2.” On Wednesday, deputies located Alexander Gutierrez in the Town of Otego and took him in to custody, he was processed and released. On Thursday deputies responded to the Lakeview Correctional Facility in Chautauqua County and took Jordan Gutierrez-Champen in to custody, he was transported to the Otsego County Sheriff’s Office where he was held for Arraignment.

Broome County Sheriff’s Office and numerous local fire departments responded last Wednesday to a house fire at 803 Hill Avenue in the Town of Union. Firefighters found a fully involved fire, after extinguishing the fire, a victim was located inside the residence, deceased. The deceased victim was identified as 86 year old Joyce Bassos, There were no other occupants in the residence. The cause of the fire is under investigation, The preliminary investigation does not indicate any criminal action.

The Deposit Village Board has decided to discontinue their contract with the Broome County Sheriff's Office to have a dedicate law enforcement presence in Deposit. The move comes about 6 years after the dissolution of the Deposit Police Department. Broome County Sheriff Fred Akshar released a statement saying the\at the decision will make emergency response times in the Village unpredictable, they will respond to emergencies along with the New York State Police going forward.

During Earth Week, The State DEC announced a total of 23 municipalities certified under New York State’s Climate Smart Communities Certification program. The certifications recognize that these communities have taken actions to reduce flood risk, address extreme heat, invest in clean energy, improve infrastructure, reduce air pollution, and increase resilience across the state. Bronze certified and re certified communities include: Village of Cooperstown, the Town of Middlefield & Otsego County.

The State DOT & the Otsego County Office of Emergency Services announced that 1 lane of eastbound travel is open on I-88 Between Exits 10 & 12 this afternoon. The work is continuing in that area and there is no timetable yet for re-opening the 2nd lane of I-88 Eastbound.

New York State Department of Transportation announced that they plan to fill 175,000 potholes across the state, now that the snow & Ice season has ended. Governor Hochul and Commissioner Dominguez joined a paving crew Monday morning to show that filling potholes is a priority this spring.

Otsego County Sheriff's Office arrested 52 year old Shawn Fallon of Winfield for Sex Offender Failure to Notify Change of Address & Sex Offender Failure to Submit Annual Verification. The Investigation revealed that Fallon did not report a change of address to the State Sex Offender Registry within 10 days, they were also notified by the Sex Offender Registry that Fallon had failed to submit his annual verification. Fallon was located in the Town of Winfield and taken into custody without incident, he was processed and was issued an Appearance Ticket returnable to the Town of Middlefield Court at a later date.

Otsego County Sheriff’s Office received cyber tips from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children, they arrested 20-year-old Jose Hernandez Martinez of Oneonta on 7 counts of possessing an obscene sexual performance by a child and 32 counts of promoting a sexual performance by a child, he was also found to be in the country illegally and is originally from El Salvador. Officers found him in the Town of Oneonta and arrested him without incident. He will be held at the Otsego County Correctional Facility until he is arraigned.

Otsego County Sheriff's Office arrested 46 year old Derrick Gray of Middlefield for Criminal Contempt. Gray failed to obey a lawful court order issued by a judge to respond to the Otsego County Probation Department to receive a GPS ankle monitor, the Otsego County Court issued a bench warrant for Gray's arrest, he was arrested on December 25th and was remanded to the Otsego County Correctional Facility without bail, he was charged with violating a court order and issued an appearance ticket returnable to the Town of Otsego Court, he was returned to the correctional facility.

Otsego County Sheriff Richard Devlin announced his plans Wednesday to run for re-election on the November Ballot for a 6th Term as Sheriff. Devlin has 36 years in law enforcement, including 19 years as Sheriff. Also, 25-year veteran of the Otsego County Sheriff’s Office Michael Stalter is challenging Devlin, both are running as Republicans.

The Number of Flu cases is trending down in New York State, according to the State Health Department. The last Week of 2025 had 49,000 new cases reported, down 32% from the week before, there have been just under 240,000 for the entire flu season, Locally, there were 350 new cases of the flu reported in the Tri-County Area.

A Public Hearing will be held by the Village of Sidney Planning Board Today at 5:00 pm, at Civic Center, on Liberty Street. The hearing is in reference to a major realty subdivision of Clover Hill Lane requested by owner of Parcels located East of County Rt. 4 and West Main Street. A regular meeting of the Village of Sidney Planning Board will follow the hearing.

Otsego County Sheriff's Office announced that scammers are impersonating the County Planning Department. Scammers are looking to collect money from zoning applicants, using county logos, actual application information, and the actual names of planning staff. The Otsego County Planning Department will never request or charge money for their review of a planning or zoning application. If you receive such a request, do not pay it.

The State Office of Parks, Recreation & Historic Preservation announced that on January 1, they are hosting the annual First Day Hikes celebrations at state parks, historic sites, nature trails, environmental education centers, and other public lands across New York State. Deposit Fire Department released more details about a fire on December 14, on North Sanford Road in the town of Sanford. Deposit, Eastern Broome Emergency Services and the Harpursville Fire Department were dispatched after a resident reported a smoke on the 2nd floor. the fire was quickly knocked down, it was determined that the fire started in the chimney of a wood burning stove and spread into the walls of the structure. Everyone was able to escape the residence uninjured. a 2nd alarm was requested with additional response from Afton, Windsor, Masonville & West Windsor.

The US Department of Justice announced the results of Operation Relentless Justice, a coordinated enforcement effort to identify, track, and arrest child sex predators. The nationwide crackdown resulted in over 205 child victims being located and the arrests of over 293 child sexual abuse offenders, including 6 in the upstate counties. The coordinated effort was executed over the course of 2 weeks by all 56 FBI field offices, the Child Exploitation and Obscenity Section in the Department’s Criminal Division, and U.S. Attorneys’ offices around the country. The Department urges the public to remain vigilant and report suspected exploitation of a child through the FBI's tip-line at 1-800-CALL-FBI (225-5324), tips.fbi.gov.

Broome County Sheriff's Office arrested 22 year old Ross Guglielmetti of Deposit,on a number of charges, following a pursuit through Broome, Chenango & Otsego Counties. Guglielmetti was charged with Criminal Possession of Stolen Property, Tampering with Physical Evidence, Unlawful Fleeing a Police Officer in a Motor Vehicle, Obstruction of Governmental Administration, Reckless Endangerment & resisting arrested, he face court action at a later date.

The New York State Department of Health has sent out an alert, warning New Yorkers or a new scam. Health department officials stated that Telephone scammers are mimicking the Department, some New Yorkers have been receiving phone calls from people identifying themselves as a Department of Health Employee, they will ask for information about a controlled substance prescription, adding to the confusion, the caller ID may even say the caller is from the Department of Health. Officials said that the Health Department will not make such calls to private citizens, they advise people who receive these calls to hang up & alert local law enforcement.

The City of Norwich Police Department arrested 51 year old Delf King of Norwich for 2nd & 4rd Degree Robbery, plus criminal mischief & Grand larceny, following an investigation of a robbery in the City on April 6th. King is accused of attacking a victim on East Main Street, causing multiple bleeding injuries, & forcibly stole the victim's cell phone, and smashed it, he then retreated to his residence, retrieved a firearm, and pointed it at the victim. King appeared in Chenango County Arraignment Court where bail was set at $5,000 cash, He was remanded to the Chenango County Correctional Facility and will appear in City of Norwich Court at a later date.

Chobani announced that the City of Rome Planning Board approved Chobani's plan to build a facility, consisting of 8 buildings. A new design was required as the FAA said parts of the original facility were too close to the runway of the Griffiss Airport, and the 130 foot building is being moved to another part of the campus.

Several area fire departments responded to the report of a structure fire at Bordinger's Welding & Fabricating at 336 Winney Hill Road. The fire was reported at about 12:15 this afternoon, and people were able to escape the blaze. WCDO will have more information as it becomes available.

The Otsego County Sheriff’s announces the arrest of 31 year old Marcus Borggreen & 26 year old Destiny Grant both of Mt. Upton, following a trespass complaint in the Town of Westford. Deputies were dispatched to a residence for a report of 2 subjects, they were located inside the basement of the residence, and were detained and were in possession of MDMA, narcotic drugs, and several weapons. the pair are facing numerous drug & weapons charges & were transported to the Sheriff’s Office and were turned over to the Jail to be held for Arraignment.

The Warren Eaton Airport in Norwich will begin much needed construction next year, after receiving significant Grant money, Chenango County Planning Department Director Shane Butler explains:

Otsego County School District will once again participate in the Plastic Film Recycling challenge, to get plastics like grocery bags, bread bags & bubble wrap out of the waste stream, Kyle King of the Otsego County Solid waste Department explains:

King said that in recent years, the challenge has successfully recycled between 3 1/2 to 6 tons of the plastic film, from students at Otsego County Schools.

Delaware County Department of Public Works will be closing County Route 18 in the Village and Town of Delhi to through traffic from 7 am. until 3:30 pm. today, tomorrow, to allow crews to replace a cross pipe. The road will be open by the end of each day.

UHS Delaware Valley Hospital has been awarded a $20 million grant through the State Department of Health. The Hospital recently announced plans to build a 4-story addition & the grant will support that expansion. The new building will house primary medical care services, specialty services, physical, occupational & speech therapy and a laboratory, The Medical Neighborhood Project is expected to begin shortly, with the anticipated completion by the end of 2027.

The Deposit and Hancock Central School Districts Boards of Education have voted to move forward with a merger feasibility study, to see if it would be advantageous to combine the 2 districts. The New York State Education Department will provide up to $100,000 to help pay for the study, which will Review district enrollment, staffing, facilities, finances, and programs, weigh the possible benefits and challenges of merging and Gather input from people from both districts. Updates will be shared on district websites, newsletters, and at public meetings.

Delaware County Office for the Aging will present " Name that Scam" an interactive, and informative presentation from the Elder Abuse Center at Lifespan of Greater Rochester. State Police and the Broome County Sheriff’s Department responded to a residential fire at a home on Broad Street in the town of Chenango, A 26-year-old female resident had been able to get herself and two children, ages five and two, out of the home, but was unable to get to a one-year-old due to the heavy thick smoke. Troopers and Sheriff’s Deputies were able to get in through a window and get the one-year-old out of the home. The child was transported to Upstate Medical Center and passed away from the injuries sustained in the fire. Troopers are working with Broome County Fire Investigators to determine the cause of the fire.

Public Meeting #1 for the Otsego Lake Watershed Protection Plan will be held Today, from 6:00 to 8:00 pm. at Glimmerglass State Park in the Lakeview Pavilion, at County Road 31, Cooperstown. The public meeting will provide an overview of the planning process and the desired outcome of the Watershed Protection Plan. A community survey will be launched during the public meeting and will be available for at least one month to gather additional input from the community. The Department of State provided funding to develop a Plan that identifies water quality threats and recommends local actions to safeguard the resource. Water quality in Otsego Lake is changing because of climate change, invasive species, and harmful inputs to the lake, the plan will identify causes of the degrading water quality and define specific actions to protect the lake and watershed.

For the 3rd straight day, An air quality health advisory has been issued by the State Department of Environmental Conservation. This advisory, once again concerning fine particulate matter, due to ongoing wildfires in Canada. Information about the level of smoke can be found at airnow.gov.

Governor Kathy Hochul today announced over $20 million in awards for the Green Innovation Grant Program and the Wastewater Infrastructure Engineering Planning Grants. A Wastewater Infrastructure Engineering Planning Grant Award includes the City of Oneonta, where they will receive $100,000 to investigate sources of inflow and infiltration in the City’s sanitary sewer system to protect water quality in the Susquehanna River.

State Police are warning the public after recently receiving an increasing number of complaints from victims of computer and phone scams, including a victim that reported to Investigators in Sidney that they got a pop-up alert on their computer, it appeared to be from Apple, with a phone number to dial for help. When the victim called it, the scammer told the victim that their account was linked to child pornography, that the victim’s identity was compromised and that their personal information was on the dark web, the victim was told to call another number which was allegedly from the U.S Department of Treasury, the scammers sent a “courier” to the victim’s house to pick up payment to allegedly fix the problem. Police remind people to Never share personal information with someone that you don't know.

Otsego County Sheriff's Office arrested 37 year old Mohamad Haidar of Decatur, following an investigation into repeated domestic violence. Haidar was charged with Predatory Sexual Assault, plus multiple counts of 1st degree & 3rd degree Rape, 1st & 3rd degree Criminal Sexual Act, Assault, Stalking, Labor Trafficking, unlawful inprisonment, Strangulation, Criminal possession of a weapon & Overdriving, torturing, failure to provide proper sustenance for animals. Investigators were contacted by victims who reported sustaining severe abuse for several years while living with Haidar, where they were forced to live at the residence and submit to extreme abuse which often resulted in serious physical injury. Haidar was taken in to custody without incident, a search warrant was executed & evidence was seized. The Susquehanna SPCA removed numerous animals. Haidar was processed and was lodged in the Otsego County Correctional Facility for Arraignment, the investigation is on-going and additional charges are pending. Neal Morrison of Vestal pleaded guilty to Criminal Possession of a Weapon in Broome County Court in exchange for a sentence of 8 years in State Prison, followed by 5 years of Post Release Supervision. Morrison also pleaded guilty to Criminal Possession of a Firearm, for which he will receive a sentence of 1½ to 3 years in State Prison. The charges stem from 2 separate incidents, on April 21, Vestal officers encountered Morrison exhibiting signs of erratic behavior, he was taken into custody under Mental Health Law for evaluation. While securing his residence, officers observed a shotgun under a blanket along with a glass smoking device and a pellet gun. In May, Endicott Police Department responded to an abandoned residence, Morrison was found sleeping behind a couch, and there was an active warrant for his arrest. A search revealed a firearm in a holster, Morrison will be sentenced on October 9th in Broome County Court.

Chenango County Planning and Economic Development Department has been approved by the state to help homeowners in the event of a natural disaster, Department Director Shane Butler explains:

State Police conducted an Underage Drinking Detail in Chenango and Otsego Counties. The Otsego County Conservation Association & Otsego County Planning & Solid Waste announced the winning schools of the 2024-2025 Plastic Film Recycling Challenge. The Unatego Elementary School won the elementary division with 2,122 pounds of plastic film recycled & Springbrook won in the high school division with 801 pounds of plastic film recycled. 10 participating schools diverted a total of 4,655.4 pounds of plastic film, each winning division will receive an ice cream social event.

Saturday is the National DEA Drug Take back day, where people are encouraged to bring outdated medication and prescriptions to collection boxes, for proper disposal and to keep the prescriptions from getting into the wrong hands or into the waste stream. State Police issued a total of 22,867 tickets during this year’s “Operation Hang Up” traffic enforcement period, including 4,607 tickets for distracted driving. This special traffic detail targeted drivers using electronic devices while behind the wheel. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, 3,275 people were killed in crashes caused by distracted driving nationwide in 2023. In Troop C, 1496 tickets were issued, 154 for texting, 89 for talking on a cell phone for a total of 243 distracted driving tickets.

State Department of Labor released preliminary local unemployment rates for March, The State’s unemployment rate declined from 4.3% to 4.2% in March 2025. Locally, Chenango County had 4.2% unemployment, Delaware County 4.6% and Otsego County 4.8% in March.

Otsego County Sheriff's Office arrested 53 year old Donald Lane Jr. of Milford, for 3rd & 4th Degree Grand Larceny, following an investigation into the complaint of in the Town of Milford where a motor vehicle had been unlawfully taken from the victim’s residence. Lane was processed, and was being held in the Otsego County Jail on unrelated charges.

Otsego County Sheriff's Office arrested 43 year old Elizabeth Nash of Sidney for burglary & petty larceny, following an investigation into a reported larceny at Walmart in the Town of Oneonta. Nash is accused of trespassing & stealing items she was being held at the Otsego County Correctional Facility pending arraignment.

Sidney Village Mayor Ray Baker told WCDO News today that the closing date for the purchase of the former Acco Brands facility in Sidney is March 14th, and is being purchased by Copeland Associates of San Diego California. Initially a cannabis manufacturing facility will occupy part of the facility, with an estimated 400 employees, with another undisclosed area company planning to use the rest of the facility for storage..

The Otsego County Solid Waste Department is continuing with the annual Plastic Film Recycling Challenge where Otsego County Schools recycle things like bread bags, Grocery bags Bubble wraps & bring it to Trex Affiliated business where the totals are counted. State Police executed a search warrant in the town of Springfield for possible animal neglect. The investigation resulted in the removal of over 2-dozen animals. 8 dogs, 13 cats and 1 turtle were in need of immediate medical care and were turned over to the care of the Susquehanna SPCA. State Police were assisted by the Otsego County Emergency Services and the DEC, The investigation is on-going, charges are likely.

The State Department of Motor Vehicles helped consumers recover more than $11 million in stolen vehicles, stolen parts, services and lost titles, in 2024. Last year, the DMV recovered 303 stolen vehicles — valued at $8,353,334 at the time of their theft — and $91,979 in stolen parts. DMV officials have warned consumers about the dangers of car sales scams through online sites like Facebook Marketplace, and reminded car buyers to be vigilant when purchasing a vehicle online.

A Delaware County Grand Jury returned a 2-count indictment against 36 year old Benjamin Combes of New Lisbon, for Course of Sexual Conduct Against a Child, & Predator Sexual Assault against a child. Combes is accused of engaging in acts of sexual conduct against a child less than 13 years old, he faces up to 25 years in prison and 20 years of post-release supervision, Combes is currently incarcerated in Otsego County for unrelated charges. He is scheduled to be transported to Delaware County Court for arraignment on January 28th. .

The Environmental Facilities Corporation Board of Directors approved $273 million in financial assistance for water infrastructure improvement projects across New York State. Locally, Funding was approved for the City of Norwich for $4 million in grant and interest-free financing for the planning, design, and construction of wastewater treatment plant upgrades, the Village of Sherburne receives $3.7 million grant for the planning, design, and construction of wastewater treatment plant upgrades.

The Oneonta Rotary & the Otsego County Department of Health announced the installation of 5 new Narcan Boxes throughout the county as part of its ongoing efforts to combat the opioid epidemic. The vending machines are located in Cherry Valley, Edmeston, Cooperstown, and Richfield Springs, the Oneonta Narcan Box is located at the Elm Park Methodist Church.

Governor Kathy Hochul today announced nearly $220 million in federal funding to support counter-terrorism and emergency preparedness efforts across New York State. The funding is provided by the FEMA, it supports planning, organization, equipment, training and exercise activities which are critical to sustaining and improving community prevention, protection, response and recovery capabilities. Locally, Chenango & Otsego Counties get over $93,000 each, Delaware County receives more that $85,000.

51 year old David Louden of Sidney appeared in Delaware County Court Friday after being arrested for a probation violation. The Delaware County Department of Probation had filed a revocation petition alleging 10 violations of the terms of his probation, for failing to report to his probation officer, possessing and consuming alcohol in violation of his conditions, possessing illegal narcotics, and refusing to answer the door to probation officers at his residence. Louden was remanded to the Delaware County Jail, he is scheduled for a conference on December 9th. .

Otsego County Sheriff's Office arrested 3 people following the execution of a search warrant in the Town of Laurens. 31 year old Ronald Neu of Laurens was charged with Criminal Possession of a Firearm, Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance, Criminal Use of Drug Paraphernalia, Endangering the Welfare of a Child and Unlawful Possession of Ammunition Feeding Devices. 21 year old Christopher Beech, was arrested on an outstanding warrant , as was 23 year old Alyssa Jones, & 20 year old Rafail Tsiraouglou. Deputies & Oneonta Police executed a search warrant, all individuals were detained for further investigation, Beech and Jones were turned over to the Chenango County Sheriff’s Office and New York State Police respectively, Tsiraouglou was turned over to Immigration Officials. Weapons & narcotics were seized, Neu was lodged in the Otsego County Correctional Facility for arraignment.

The Chenango County Sheriff's Office announced that the South Abington Police Department in Pennsylvania located & arrested Donald Shurock, who is being held in the Lackawanna County Jail pending his extradition back to New York. Shurock was wanted since last week, he had been located in a vehicle by a deputy, resisted arrested and fled the scene on foot, the Deputy was treated & released for injuries sustained in trying to arrest Shurock. Shurock is wanted on the initial warrant plus Assault of a Police Officer and Resisting Arrest.

The Otsego County Board of Elections announced that Early Voting for the November 5 General Election will begin October 26 through November 3 at the Foothills Performing Arts Center, on Market Street in Oneonta & at The Meadows Office Complex, at 140 County Highway 33W in Cooperstown. The Delaware County Board of Supervisors will have an official ribbon cutting ceremony at the new DPW Administration Building at 2 Bridge Street in Delhi at 12:00 PM Today. US Senator Kirsten Gillibrand announced over $27 Million Dollars in federal funding for the Delaware County Electric Cooperative, which provides electricity to over 5,000 families, farms, and local businesses in Chenango, Delaware, Otsego, and Schoharie Counties. The Delaware County Cooperative will lead a partnership composed of 6 small electric cooperatives across 3 states to increase grid resilience against outages caused by weather events and tree damage caused by invasive species. The Cooperative will deploy advanced software to enable proactive grid management, as well as hardware such as grid sensors and drones to provide real-time data and monitoring capabilities.

The Otsego County Sheriff's Office arrested 36 year old Brian Worden of Sidney following an investigation into medications not being taken properly in the Otsego County Correctional Facility. Worden was charged with Attempted Promoting Prison Contraband when he failed to take his prescribed medication properly and attempted to remove the medication from the medication room but was caught by a Correctional Officer, he was issued an Appearance Ticket returnable to the Town of Middlefield Court at a later date.

Otsego County Sheriff's office arrested 33 year old Schuyler Schmidt of Garratsville following an investigation of a structure fire in the Town of New Lisbon. Schmidt was charged with Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance, Arson, Criminal Mischief in connection with a structure fire of a garage owned by a relative, multiple area Fire Departments responded, investigators located approximately thirteen vehicles & Machinery sustained significant damage or had become a total loss. Upon Arrested, Schmidt allegedly possessed methamphetamine, he was held at the Otsego County Correctional Facility pending arraignment.

59 year old Dolores Barse, also known as Dolores Hurlburt of Sidney appeared in Delaware County Court last week & pleaded guilty to Welfare Fraud, she is accused of providing false information while applying for SNAP and HEAP benefits, she claimed to have no income despite being employed. Barse improperly received $14,203 in public benefits that she was not entitled to, she will be ordered to pay the money back to the Delaware County Department of Social Services.

The State Department of Labor announced that the number of private sector jobs in New York State decreased over the month by 8,100, or 0.1%, to 8,393,400 in August 2024. The State's seasonally adjusted unemployment rate increased from 4.3% to 4.4% in August, the statewide labor force participation rate held constant at 61.3% in August.

Oneonta City Officials announced that On Sunday, beginning at approximately 8:00 am and continuing until approximately 4:00 pm, NYSEG crews will be shutting off electrical service to businesses and apartments on Main Street, Water Street, and Market Street. Emergency crews responded to an accident on I-88 yesterday afternoon at about 1:00 PM, between Oneonta and Otego. A tractor trailer went off of the road & tipped over onto its side, the driver was not injured.

A social Media Threat against the Sidney & Walton Central School District was posted on Instagram and Facebook, Sidney Superintendent Eben Bullock told WCDO News that 4 were quickly identified, placed into a safe space & their parents were contacted, they also coordinated with the Sidney Police Department. Sidney Police stated that there was no credible information or evidence to support the threat being real & they remained at the school until dismissal, they are back at the Sidney District again today. Otsego County Sheriff's Office arrested 29 year old Antonio Almovdovar of Oneonta on multiple charges for Assaulting and throwing feces on Correction Officers. Almovdovar was charged with Assault, Aggravated Harassment of an Employee by an Inmate, on September 17th Almovdovar ignored lawful commands by corrections officers to cease his actions, he became combative and during a struggle, a corrections officer sustained an injury that required medical treatment at Bassett Hospital, the following morning, he began to again become disorderly and proceeded to throw bodily fluids on to another corrections officer, After consulting with the Otsego County District Attorney’s Office, a bail recommendation of $10,000 cash, $10,000 credit card and $100,000 surety bond was requested.

Walton Fire Department responded Monday night at about 11:15pm to a reported structure fire at 30 Union Street in the village. All occupants were out of the structure when Firefighters arrived, they were able to remove pets from the residence. Walton Fire Department was assisted by Trout Creek, Delhi, Franklin Fire Department. The cause of the fire is under investigation.

Delaware County Sheriff's Office arrested 43 year old Jonathan Hynes of Stamford on an Arrest Warrant for 2nd Degree Assault following an investigation by the Otsego County Sheriff's Office for an incident that occurred in Worcester. State Police were dispatched Thursday night to a report of gunshots at Lantern Hill Mobile Home Park in Oneonta. An investigation revealed that a 40-year-old male of Oneonta, NY sustained a non-life-threatening gunshot wound after a dispute involving several individuals, he was taken to A.O. Fox Hospital by a private vehicle and was later transported to Bassett Hospital for further care. The vehicle carrying the victim was hit by gunfire during the incident. 34 year old Ishmael Seabrook of Oneonta was charged with 2 counts of Attempted Murder, Criminal Use of a Firearm, Criminal Possession of a Weapon & Reckless Endangerment, State Police were assisted by the Oneonta City Police Department, Seabrook was arraigned at the Otsego County Jail and was remanded without bail.

Delaware County Sheriff's Office arrested 34 year old Matthew Baumert of Franklin on criminal mischief charges. On Tuesday June 25th, Deputies responded to a trespass complaint in the Town of Franklin, Baumert is accused of entering the property & causing damage, Deputies submitted for an arrest warrant to be issued by the Town of Franklin Court, On August 20th, Deputies arrested Baumert on the arrest warrant, he was was transported to the Delaware County Correctional Facility to await centralized arraignment.

The Binghamton Police Department arrested 31 year old Matthew Carrasquillo of Binghamton, When he was eventually taken into custody after a brief pursuit, officers found a loaded and defaced handgun & a high-capacity handgun magazine. He was charged with numerous counts of criminal possession of a weapon as well as criminal possession of a firearm. These are felony charges. He is also facing misdemeanor charges of obstruction of governmental administration in the second degree and resisting arrest.

The State DOT is alerting motorists that State Route 79 will be closed from about 1,000 feet east of the Interstate 88 interchange to the intersection with Main Street in the Town of Colesville, until further notice. The closure is necessary to facilitate a culvert repair, which is expected to take several weeks. Motorists should follow posted detours.
