The Oxtober Festival will take place from 10 am. to 4 pm. on Sunday, October 22, at LaFayette Park in Oxford. Activities include pumpkin carvings, a scarecrow contest, music from the Nate Gross Band, food trucks, a kid zone, vendors and more. The events was rescheduled after it was postponed earlier this month due to inclement weather.

The Otsego County Health Department reported that a raccoon located in Unadilla has tested positive for rabies. Today, U.S. Senator Kirsten Gillibrand visited the Southern Tier Crime Analysis Center to announce Senate passage of her FEND Off Fentanyl Act. Fentanyl is 50 times stronger than heroin, the majority of illegal fentanyl entering the United States is made with Chinese precursor chemicals and manufactured in Mexico. This bill will empower the U.S. government to go after the cartels bringing Fentanyl into the US and those producing and shipping the precursor materials. The law also enhances sanctions enforcement and gives the Treasury Department tools to combat fentanyl-related money laundering.

The Broome County provided an update on the progress of their new Criminal Investigations Unit at the Broome County Correctional Facility. The new unit consists of a supervisor and 2 full-time investigators, including a trained K9 handler that can search for drugs and various contraband inside the facility. The Unit has made 8 arrests resulting in 6 felonies and 3 misdemeanors, ranging from Promoting prison contraband to assault, to criminal mischief.

Otsego County Sheriff's Office arrested 34 year old Jesse Dilatush of Burlington following an investigation of a burglary which occurred in 2022. Dilatush was charged with Burglary, Grand Larceny Petty Larceny & Criminal Mischief, he is accused of forcing his way into a dwelling and stealing a Kubota tractor which was later found abandoned in the Town of Burlington. Chenango County Sheriff’s Office located Dilatush in the Town of Columbus and he was turned over to investigators for arrest processing, he was being held at the Otsego County Correctional Facility pending court proceedings.

Lieutenant Governor-Designate Antonio Delgado today announced his plans to resign from Congress and be sworn in as Lieutenant Governor of New York on Wednesday. Delgado's resignation from the 19th District will allow other candidates to come forward & run in the District, with the Primaries scheduled for August 23rd.

The national Click It Or Ticket campaign is underway in New York State today. Law enforcement will be stepping-up patrols to encourage compliance with New York's universal seat belt law which requires all vehicle passengers to wear a seat belt at all times, regardless of age or seat location.

New York's State Senate and Congressional redistricting maps have been submitted by Jonathan Cervas of Pennsylvania & were approved Friday night, Candidates must file their petitions between June 8th to the 10th, Primary day for the state Senate and Congressional races is now August 23rd, with early voting between August 13-21.

Otsego County Department of Health reported 48 New COVID cases Friday, with 2 hospitalizations, and 11.0% 7 day positivity rate. There have been 859 new COVID-19 cases reported since May 1, 2022. This is significant increase compared to 369 cases in March and 789 cases in April. Otsego County is now at HIGH COVID-19 Community Level. The Albany County Sheriff's Office has filed charges against former Governor Andrew Cuomo for forcible touching, relating to an incident last December at the Executive Mansion in Albany. The Albany City Court issued a summons for Cuomo to appear in that court November 17th, investigations in other jurisdictions are continuing.

Otsego County Department of Health reported that the County remains at a HIGH level of community transmission, with 108 active cases, 28 new cases reported Thursday, with 7 Hospitalized. This Year, the Health Department is aware of 672 breakthrough cases of COVID in fully vaccinated individuals, which corresponds to 2% of the fully vaccinated population. There have been 3,185 cases in unvaccinated individuals, which corresponds to 15% of the unvaccinated population. An unvaccinated person is 7.5 times more likely to contract COVID-19, and 10 times more likely to be hospitalized & they are more likely to suffer more severe illness & death.
