Delaware County Sheriff's Deputies responded to a report of harassment occurring in the Village of Margaretville. During the course of the investigation, the complainant advised that 51-year-old Melissa Hull of Margaretville contacted her via telephone and made threats & came to her residence in a confrontational manner and made additional threats. Hull was arrested Friday, & an order of protection was also issued against Hull ordering her to stay away from the complainant. Hull was processed and released on an appearance ticket.

Delaware County Sheriff’s Office has investigated a few instances where people have shot & damaged Fiber Optic cables that County residents rely on for Internet, Television & general Information sending & receiving, Delaware County Sheriff Craig DuMond comments:

Sheriff DuMond said that most of the instances have occurred affected Delhi Telephone & Margaretville Telephone Companies, but the damage disrupted customers all over the county, including various emergency services, including the Sheriff's Department.

State police arrested Charles Walsh of Sidney on charges of assault, criminal nuisance & unlawful possession of a firearm, & criminal possession of marijuana following an investigation into a domestic dispute in the village of Sidney. Walsh is accused of striking a person & burning a telephone cord to prevent that victim from calling police. Walsh was arraigned & remanded to the Delaware county jail on $5,000 cash bail pending future court action.

Delaware County Sheriff's Deputies responded to a reported theft of a road sign in the Town of Delhi that led to the recovery of numerous highway signs & Coldwell Banker/Timberland Properties real estate signs. Deputies reported that they recovered more than 30 signs and charged 18 year old Russell Storey of Andes, 18 year old Dylan Reed of Margaretville, NY, and an unidentified 17 year old Roxbury male with Grand Larceny & Criminal Mischief & they also charged 20 year old Darian Scudder of Halcottsville with Criminal Possession of Stolen Property. All 4 suspects were issued appearance tickets for Town of Middletown Court at a later date.

State Police received a report from a resident in Roxbury, that an X-Acto knife type razor blade was found inside a sealed bag of Sour Skittles which had been obtained while Trick or Treating. The candy was not opened until opened on November 9th; it has been traced back to the purchase point of the CVS Pharmacy in Margaretville. The investigation has not been able to identify the source of the razor blade and parents all over the region are recommended to thoroughly check all candy prior to consumption.
State Police have recently received several reports of telephone callers claiming to be from the IRS that aggressively demand the resident pay money to clear up an outstanding tax debt, or face criminal charges. The public is being advised that the IRS does not make phone calls in this manner, and anyone receiving a telephone call of this nature should check with the local IRS office.
