The "Help Tom Help Others" fundraiser will be held at Foothills Performing Arts Center in Oneonta starting at 2:00 PM Saturday, to help Tom Quiter of Mount Upton fulfill his dream of getting a van in order to get out & help others with various disabilities. Tom suffers from Brittle Bone disease & is wheel chair bound, & the Catskill Center for independence, Foothills have teamed up to put on a benefit dinner & show featuring comedians & bands. The 11th Annual OH-Fest, a sponsored by Hartwick College and SUNY Oneonta is Saturday, with a carnival on Main Street from 1;00 to 5:00 PM, featuring games, bands, street performers, inflatable rides, arts and craft vendors, food vendors, and more. At Neahwa Park, starting at 6 p.m., there will be a free rap concert.

More than 500 fire departments across the State have signed up to participate in RecruitNY this weekend. RecruitNY is designed to increase membership in volunteer fire departments; volunteers will conduct tours of their facilities, demonstrate firefighting techniques, & allow visitors to try on turnout gear. Chenango Health Network’s Every Woman Counts in Chenango County Campaign is hosting a Breast Cancer Awareness Craft Fair with over 15 vendors Sunday at the River Club in Afton from 11:00 to 4:00 PM. The Lourdes “Mission in Motion” mobile mammography van will be on site providing mammograms for insured and uninsured women. Appointments are requested at 798-5723.

Tri-Town Theatre will feature their production of The Odd Couple directed by Tri Town Theatre's founder Jack Deuel. Performances are at the Sidney high school auditorium tonight & Saturday Night at 7:00 PM, and Sunday afternoon at 2:00. Tickets are $8 for students and seniors and $10 for regular admission. The Chenango Arts Council proudly announces the 15th annual Allegro 5K Run for the Arts will take place along the streets of downtown Norwich on Saturday, May 7, 2016. Registration begins at 8:00 am; the race starts at 9:00am at 27 West Main Street, in front of the Chenango Arts Council building. The Broome County Sheriff's department is asking the public to help find a Town of Chenango woman with health issues, who disappeared 2 weeks ago today. 37-year-old Brenda Halpin suffers from Huntington's disease which is a debilitating disease that affects her ability to walk, she was last seen on April 8th in her home in Chenango Bridge, Anyone with information is urged to call the Broome County Sheriff's Office at 778-1911.

The city of Oneonta & Otsego Now will host an informational meeting for area business people, regarding Governor Cuomo’s 6th round of consolidated funding applications. The meeting will be held on may 6th from 8:00 AM to 10:00 AM at the Otsego Now Offices at 189 Min Street Oneonta on the 5th floor.

The Bainbridge Guilford school district is currently enrolling kindergarten students for the 2016-2017 school year, and screenings will take place on May 16th & 17th. Guilford Elementary School Principal Linda Maynard explains:

Governor Cuomo today invited New Yorkers to sign up to volunteer at their favorite state park or historic site as part of the fifth annual “I Love My Park Day” to be held on May 7, 2016 at 110 parks and historic sites across the state. US Senator & Republican candidate Ted Cruz of Texas will be making a campaign stop in Binghamton Friday. Cruz will campaign at the Forum Theatre at 11:15 AM, Tickets for the event are required, they at available through newyork.tedcruz.org.

Former President Bill Clinton is expected to be in Binghamton on Saturday, to campaign on behalf of his wife Hillary Clinton. No time or location has yet been announced.

The sentencing of disgraced ex-Assembly Speaker Sheldon Silver has been postponed until May 3rd in a Manhattan federal courtroom. Silver was found guilty by a federal jury in November on corruption charges, Last week, Silver’s defense lawyers asked Judge Valerie Caproni to move sentencing to May 3rd & to set a date to hear arguments related to revealing secret documents at Silver's sentencing.

Assemblyman Cliff Crouch And the Assembly Task Force on the Developmentally Disabled will hold a meeting today at SUNY Broome Decker Health Sciences Center Room 201, from 6:00 to 8:00 PM, Crouch comments about the meeting:

Crouch said that the state has been closing homes for the developmental disabled and putting them into smaller group home facilities, which may be detrimental to those who were previously cared for at Broome Developmental & other larger scale facilities with many more amenities, friends & staff available.

Governor Cuomo announced the submission of 210 vetoes, eliminating pages of unnecessary language from the 2016-17 Enacted Budget. The vetoes include 18 reappropriations for items that had previously been fully paid out. 132 appropriations already received adequate funding within State agency operations, and 15 were duplicative, 27 reappropriations have been vetoed previously and therefore cannot be reappropriated, & 14 appropriations were unconstitutional.

Town of Bainbridge officials announced that Kelly Road between routes 7 & 8 is closed today. Crews will be replacing a culvert; the road is expected to be opened to traffic later today or tomorrow following completion of the project.
