38 year old Jennifer Hewitt of Bloomville, was indicted by a Delaware County Grand Jury, Counts 1 and 2 are for 3rd degree Grand Larceny, for unlawfully issuing a check from a different bank to Delaware National Bank of Delhi and then withdrawing more than $3000, to have insufficient funds in either account to cover her withdrawal on 2 occasions.
29 year old Wesley Eignor of Hobart, was indicted by a Delaware County Grand Jury for Attempted Assault, Obstruction of Governmental Administration and Aggravated unlicensed operation of a Motor Vehicle. The indictments stem from an incident where Eignor was stopped by a Delaware County Deputy for speeding, he resisted arrest & assaulted the Deputy, and did not have a license or privilege of operating a motor vehicle.

Delaware County Sheriff's Office arrested 30 year old Johnathon Brezinsky of Sidney for Promoting prison contraband at the Delaware County Correctional Facility. Investigators were notified by Correctional Facility Staff that an Inmate was found to be in possession of dangerous contraband within the Facility, Brezinsky was arrested, arraigned and was remanded back to the custody of the Delaware County Correctional Facility on $10,000 dollars cash bail, $20,000 dollars partially secured bond, and he faces court action shortly.
Delaware Opportunities is contracted to run the County Senior meals program at 6 locations, plus with deliveries, funded through state and federal subsidies, during contract negotiations with the County, officials determined that the program is not sustainable at the current costs, on Tuesday, the County Board of Supervisors Office for the Aging oversight committee moved to provide for a pro-rated contract with Delaware Opportunities to expire on December 31, then in 2027 the Senior Meals program would be administered through the county rather than a 3rd party. If Delaware Opportunities ceases operation immediately, Delaware County would continue the service without interruption as a County-run program, through the Office for the Aging, with no change to site or staff.

A Delaware County Grand Jury returned a 4 Count Indictment against 36 year old William Weil of Bainbridge last week. Weil was indicted for Aggravated DWI, Felony DWI & Endangering the welfare of a child, for allegedly driving intoxicated with a child in his vehicle in Delhi on January 22nd, the DWI is a felony as Weil was convicted of DWI within the last 10 years. Weil faces action on the indictments shortly.

21 year old Connor Steidle of South Carolina pleaded guilty in Delaware County Court to attempted criminal possession of a weapon & was sentenced to 3 years in state prison followed by 3 years of post release supervision. On December 12th, 2025, Steidle reportedly threatened his girlfriend in Sidney with a loaded pistol, Sidney Police & A State Trooper arrested Steidle, he was also ordered to stay away from the victim after completing his prison sentence.
Delaware County Sheriff's Office arrested 37 year old Christina LoRusso of Hamden following an investigation of a 1 car accident on February 19th. Deputies were dispatched to State Route 10 near the County Solid Waste Management Facility in the Town of Walton. Lorusso drove off the roadway and over an embankment, crashing into the State DOT perimeter fencing, causing her vehicle to become stuck, she was charged with Driving While Intoxicated and Moving from Lane Unsafely. Lorusso was released on summonses, directing her to appear in the Town of Walton Court at a later date, to answer the charges. Additionally, on the morning of February 20th, Deputies were notified of additional damage at the Solid Waste Facility front gate from Lorusso’s vehicle, she was charged with Leaving the Scene of a Property Damage Accident.

The Delaware County Sheriff's Office announced the subsequent arrest of 44 year old Brent Trimbell of Hobart following a child sex abuse investigation and initial arrest from June 17th, when he was charged with 1st degree Rape, 2 counts of Aggravated Sexual Abuse & 1 count of Endangering the Welfare of a Child, at that time Trimbell was remanded to the Delaware County Jail on $300,000 cash bail or $600,000 secured bond. Investigators discovered that Trimbell sent at least 6 videos or images to a child of a pornographic nature, on Wednesday Trimbell was arrested on 6 more counts of Disseminating Indecent Material to a Minor, at the Delaware County Correctional Facility following Trimbell’s release on bond from the initial charges. Trimbell was later arraigned by Town of Walton Justice Michael Rippa, where the Delaware County District Attorney’s Office argued for bail at $100,000 cash or $200,000 secured property bond on the additional charges, Justice Rippa set bail at $1.00 and Trimbell was released from custody. Sheriff DuMond said that the investigation remains open and ongoing, anyone with information on any illegal activities committed by Trimbell are encouraged to contact the Delaware County Sheriff’s Office.
26 year old Jacob Goodman of Warwick, pleaded guilty in Delaware County Court to Criminal Contempt and was sentenced to a one-year conditional discharge. If Goodman violates any conditions during that one-year period, he may be re-sentenced to 1 year in jail. Goodman was arrested in March following a physical domestic in progress in the Village of Walton, it was determined he was in violation of a order of protection.
Republican Congressman Mike Lawler announced he will run for reelection in his own Congressional District, and he will not seek the Republican Party Nomination in the next race for New York Governor. North Country Congresswoman Elise Stefanik is expected to seek the Republican nomination, after her nomination as U.S. ambassador to the United Nations was pulled over concerns about Republicans’ small margin for leadership in the US House of Representatives.

Delaware County Sheriff Deputies conducted a traffic stop on State Highway 206 in the Town of Colchester, 45-year-old Steven Caiati of Starlight, Pennsylvania was charged with Driving While Ability Impaired by Drugs and several lesser traffic violations. Deputies located Methamphetamine & a firearm with a high-capacity magazine. Caiati was a convicted felon and was not permitted to be in possession of a firearm, he was Unlicensed Operator, all violations in the New York State Vehicle and Traffic Law. Caiati was additionally charged with Criminal Possession of a Weapon, Tampering with Physical Evidence, & Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance, Caiati was transported to the Delaware County Correctional Facility to await Centralized Arraignment Court.
Commerce Chenango's 2nd annual Women's Leadership Conference will be held today at the Canasawacta County Club in Norwich, about 225 are expected to attend, the keynote speaker will be Barbara Schindler of Golden Artists Colors.

Governor Hochul today announced preparations to call in the National Guard to staff the State Correctional Facility, if the Illegal Job Action staged by State Correction Officers; does not end tomorrow. The National Guard will be called in to protect correction officers who are currently on the job, individuals being held at Correctional Facilites as well as the surrounding communities. The Governor also directed Department of Corrections leadership and senior Administration officials to meet with leaders from the State Correctional Officers & Police Benevolent Association to call for an end to the unlawful work stoppage. In March 2024, the union agreed to a collective bargaining agreement with the State of New York to improve working conditions for corrections officers.
Delaware County Sheriff's Office arrested 31 year old Skyler Smith of East Meredith for Criminal Possession of a Weapon. On Saturday Deputies conducted a traffic stop on Smith, who was found to be in possession of an illegal switchblade knife. Smith was additionally charged for a traffic violation and was released on appearance tickets and is to appear in the Town Delhi Court at a later date to answer the said charges.
Delaware County Sheriff's Office announced that a Oneonta man was arrested on an Arrest Warrant issued by the Town of Delhi Court. On June 29th, 2023, Sheriff Deputies responded to a reported Domestic Dispute in Delhi, Deputies had applied for & received an Arrest Warrant for Daquan Brown for Aggravated Harassment and Criminal Mischief, Monday evening, Town of Colchester Police responded to a report of a car in a snow bank, the operator was Daquan Brown who was taken in to custody by deputies on the warrant. he was turned over to the Delaware County Correctional facility for Arrangement.

State Officials announced this week that Shooting Incidents Decreased By 29% In New York State, after the state received reports from law enforcement agencies, that were taking part in New York State’s Gun Involved Violence Elimination or "GIVE" initiative. Hochul's office also announced a 21 percent decline in the number of individuals killed by gun violence in the same period, the initiative supports 28 police departments in 21 counties, Nassau, Suffolk & Yonkers had the steepest declines of almost 60%.

Macrabie will be required to register as a sex offender for at least 20 years, and he will also be placed on sex offender probation for 6 years, sentencing will be July 22nd.

Norwich Police Chief Reuben Roach announced that 4 members of his Department were awarded letters of Commendation as well as 2 officers being awarded a Citation of Bravery with a pin of Valor, On April 24th, Officers Scott Laughlin & Tyler King responded to a Trespass in progress call, that turned out to be an ambush and a suicide by cop ploy. Both Officers were awarded Citations of Bravery and pins of Valor. Sergeant Martin was awarded a Citation of Commendation for his leadership during this incident. On May 4th, Officers Taylor Waite & Tyler Dexheimer apprehended an individual who was operating a stolen vehicle from a forcible robbery that had occurred earlier that day in the City of Cortland. 44 year old Cruz Garcia was indicted by the Delaware County Grand Jury for Unlawful Imprisonment, Attempted Assault and Criminal Obstruction of Breathing. The indictment alleges that Garcia attempted to cause serious physical injury to a female victim when he strangled her & held her against her will in June 2023 in the Town of Middletown. Garcia was arraigned on the Indictment in Delaware County Court this week, and pleaded not guilty, he was remanded to the Delaware County Correctional Facility where he was already being held on unrelated charges.

Delaware County Sheriff's Office arrested 45 year old Nehemiah Clark of Bloomville and 25 year old Jordan Clark of Andes man on drug charges. Deputies assisted State Parole Officers with conducting a home visit at the Delaware County homeless shelter in Bloomville, where it was determined that the parolee was not at the residence and was violating his terms with parole, a vehicle was observed passing by with the parolee inside and a traffic stop was conducted. Deputies & K9 Dexter determined that both occupants were in possession of fentanyl, they were charged with criminal possession of a controlled substance & were released on appearance tickets to the Town of Kortright Court at a later date.

The Delaware County Sheriff's Office arrested 27 year old Ford Bailey-Banks of Davenport for 2nd degree Burglary, criminal trespass. On March 5th, 2024, Sheriffs Deputies received a complaint that Bailey-Banks had entered onto another’s property and into dwelling, where he stole multiple items as well a firearm, he was transported to the Delaware County Sheriffs Office to await Centralized Arraignment Processing and will be scheduled to appear at the Town of Harpersfield Court at a later date to answer for the charges.

Otsego County Officials announced that several roads are closed due to flooding conditions, including County Highway 48 between Chamberlain Hill and Downey Road Spur in Otego, County Highway 4 between Mill Street and Hilton Street in the Town of Butternuts, Miller Road in Pittsfield, Bemis Road from State Highway 51 to Pegg Road in Morris. In Delaware County, State Route 30 in Roxbury has flooding issues, officals in all around counties advise motorists to turn around if they find flooded roads & report them to authorites as soon as possible. Motorists can check 511ny.org for road closures.
Delaware County Sheriff's Office arrested 31 year old Cachet Fernandez of Sidney on a sealed indictment arrest warrant issued out of the Delaware County Court. On Friday Morning, Broome County Sheriff’s Deputies, located and identified Fernandez, he was turned over to the custody of Delaware County Sheriff’s Deputies. The Delaware County Court issued a sealed indictment arrest warrant, stemming from Fernandez allegedly not reporting his new residence as a registered Sex Offender to the proper authorities upon moving. Fernandez was remanded to the Delaware County Jail to await arraignment in Delaware County Court at a later date.
The Delaware County Sheriff's Office arrested 38 year old Richard Santiago of Masonville on a bench warrant, issued by the Village of Sidney. Deputies responded to Delaware County Correctional Facility where Richard Santiago was being arraigned on a separate charge. Deputies subsequently arrested 38-year-old Santiago on two active bench warrants issued by the Village of Sidney Court. Santiago was arraigned at Delaware County Central Arraignment Court, released on his own recognizance, and directed to appear in the Village of Sidney Court at a later date to answer for the charges.

NYSEG reports that about 600 customers are still without power in Delaware & Otsego Counties, following Sunday's heavy rain & snowfall., crews are working to restore power as soon as possible.
On December 3, 2023, Delaware County Sheriffs Deputies observed a vehicle in a field and observed a person running with a flashlight toward the vehicle. Deputies identified the person with the flashlight as the operator of the motor vehicle as 34 year old Michael Hunter of Walton, who is accused of driving while under the influence of alcohol, he was charged with DWI and moving from lane unsafely. The property that Hunter was on was owned by New York City Department of Environmental Protection, DEP Police charged Hunter with Trespass & Criminal Mischief, Hunter will appear in Andes Town Court at a later date.

The Delaware County Chamber of Commerce will bring back their Leaderful Delaware classes & they are currently seeking people committed to community service who would benefit from strengthening leadership skills, Chamber President Ray Pucci explains:

The 2023 program will start on October 11 with an in-person session in Delhi, followed by classes on the 2nd Wednesday of each month through May 2024. A graduation recognition will be celebrated at the Chamber’s Business and Breakfast event in June 2024. More information is available at delawarecounty.org.
Delaware County Sheriff Deputy’s responded to a report of a suspicious person in a vehicle located at the intersection of Scotch Mountain Road & Arbuckle Hollow Road, in the Town of Delhi. Deputies observed 78-year-old Dante Musci of Delancey lying in the back seat of the vehicle, he had traveled along Arbuckle Hollow Road and was involved in a property damage auto accident and had left the scene. Musci was charged with leaving the scene of a property damage auto accident, Operating a Motor Vehicle while impaired by drugs and driving while intoxicated, he was released and will appear in the Town of Delhi Court at a later date.

Congressman Marc Molinaro announced over $27 million in federal funding for community development projects in New York's 19th Congressional District. The City of Norwich will receive over 1.2 Million Dollars for Sanitary Sewer System Repairs& the Town of Oneonta will receive $4.2 Million Dollars for installation of 7,000 linear feet of sewer and water lines and associated laterals, meters, and hookups.

A Delaware County Grand Jury indicted Benjamin Moyse of Delhi on 11 charges. Count 1 alleged that, while a 10th grade teacher at Delaware Academy, Moyse intentionally aided a person under 16 years of age to commit the felony crimes of possessing and disseminating child pornography. The Grand Jury also charged Moyse with 5 separate counts of Endangering the Welfare of a Child, for knowingly engaged in a course of conduct likely to be injurious to the physical, mental, or moral welfare of 5 separate children at Delaware Academy. Moyse was also charged with 2 counts of Official Misconduct, for failing to follow the school’s policy and procedures when students and parents repeatedly reported to him that students were being sexually abused & for failing to report child abuse or maltreatment by his students and his students’ parents.

Delaware County Sheriff’s Deputies responded Friday to a 2 car motor vehicle accident with injuries on State Highway 206 in the Town of Tompkins. After further investigation, deputies identified the one of the drivers of the vehicle as 66 year-old Terence Gebler of Walton, whose driver’s license was suspended. Deputies arrested Gebler for Aggravated Unlicensed Operation of a Motor Vehicle and Failure to turn in license to DMV, & Failure to yield while entering an intersection, Gebler was released and is scheduled to appear in the Town of Tompkins Court at a later date.

The Delaware County District Attorney's Office announced that 26 year old Brandin VanTassel of Walton, New York pleaded guilty in Delaware County Court to Criminal Contempt, for intentionally violating an order of protection, by contacting the protected party by sending multiple text messages. VanTassel will be sentenced to serve 6 months in the Delaware County Correctional Facility, followed by 5 years of probation supervision. Sentencing is scheduled for March 27, at 9:00 A.M.

The Boards of Directors for the Chenango United Way and the United Way of Madison County have approved the formal affiliation of their 2 agencies, with the intent to complete an application for merger in the first quarter of 2023.
