On Monday at the DEP Offices on Smith Street in Kingston, community leaders gathered to announce a new initiative to improve wireless connectivity across the watershed. New York City DEP Commissioner Aggarwala discussed the project’s aim to build wireless infrastructure that will not only enhance DEP operations but also address the gaps in connectivity affecting local communities. The project will help fill in "dead zones" along critical roadways and ensure better communications for first responders, in areas where cell service is unreliable. The DEP's ability to create this infrastructure on their land will allow private wireless carriers to also utilize it to provide much-needed service boost to residents and businesses.

Delaware County Sheriff’s Deputies received a complaint last week regarding a stolen vehicle from a driveway in the Town of Tompkins. Deputies were contacted by State Police, as they had located the vehicle parked at a residence in the Town of Bainbridge. 37 year old Aaron Howard of Walton was charged with Grand Larceny, Criminal Possession of Stolen Property and Unauthorized use of a Motor Vehicle. 36 year old Courtney Condon of Walton was charged with Grand Larceny and Criminal Possession of Stolen Property.

Delaware County Sheriff’s Deputies received a complaint last week regarding a stolen vehicle from a driveway in the Town of Tompkins. Deputies were contacted by State Police, as they had located the vehicle parked at a residence in the Town of Bainbridge. 37 year old Aaron Howard of Walton was charged with Grand Larceny, Criminal Possession of Stolen Property and Unauthorized use of a Motor Vehicle. 36 year old Courtney Condon of Walton was charged with Grand Larceny and Criminal Possession of Stolen Property.
Otsego County Sheriff's Office arrested 38 year old Stanley Kingston of Albany, following a traffic stop on July 26, in the Town of Oneonta. Kingston was charged with Aggravated Driving While Intoxicated, DWI, with a previous conviction within 10 years, 2 counts of Aggravated Unlicensed Operation, driving a vehicle without Ignition Interlock Device, among other charges, Kingston had a revoked license, he was released with appearance tickets for Oneonta Town court at a later date.

The Utica Police Department has disclosed the identities of the deceased individuals involved in the Kingston Road incident Tuesday night. The 2 deceased individuals were 22 year old Sara Doody and 26 year old Donte Green both of Utica. Utica Police said that Green shot Doody in the head, shot his grandfather in the leg & when Police responded, he fire shots at the Officer and fled into a nearby resident & shot himself to death with a rifle. The 2 year old child of Doody & Green was removed from the scene and was brought to family members, Green's Grandfather is in an area hospital recovering from gunshot wounds to his legs.

New York lawmakers passed another extension for the state's budget on Thursday to ensure state workers get paid and operations continue, as negotiations continue. The extension will push the deadline to pass a budget to April 8th, local Assemblyman Brian Miller comments:

State Police reported that 2 pedestrians that were struck by a vehicle in the town of Middletown Wednesday. State Police stated that 68 year old John Guidice & 67 year old Joyce Guidice, both of Middletown, were struck by a vehicle while on the shoulder of New Kingston Road, the vehicle did not stop, Numerous lifesaving measures were performed & Joyce was pronounced dead at the scene, John was taken to Margaretville Hospital with non-life threatening injuries. A vehicle with front end damage was located & a 70 year old man from Staten Island was being interviewed by Investigators. The investigation is on-going. More will be released once it is available.

The CDC reports that Pennsylvania is 1st & New York State 2nd for reported cases of tick-borne diseases. The CDC report said that in New York, the most common tick-borne illness is Lyme disease, which can cause flu-like symptoms, joint pain, fatigue, and, if left untreated, severe complications. The CDC suggest that those hiking in wooded areas should be fully clothed with footwear that covers the entire foot, they also suggest using EPA-approved insect repellent on any exposed skin and clothing and follow instructions

Delaware County Sheriff's Office announced the arrest 46 year old Renee Bueller of New Kingston for DWI, following an investigation into a motor vehicle accident in the Town of Middletown, where the operator left the scene. Deputies located Bueller, who was charged with DWI, leaving the scene of a property damage accident, moved from lane unsafely, speed not reasonable and prudent and failing to remove debris from a highway. Bueller was subsequently released on appearance tickets and directed to appear at the Town of Middletown court at a later date to answer for the charge.

The Delaware County District Attorney's office announced that 50 year old Kristopher Surdis of Kingston, appeared in Delaware County Court on March 20, 2023 and pleaded guilty to one count of Falsely Reporting an Incident. Surdis was arrested by the Colchester Police Department for allegedly calling the Downsville Country Store and reporting a bomb threat. After being arraigned on a Superior Court Information, he pleaded guilty and was sentenced to time already served in jail and also imposed a 3-year Conditional Discharge, which requires Surdis undergo a mental health evaluation, and comply with any treatment recommendations for the next three years, if he violates the terms, he could be re-sentenced to a term of 7 years in jail.

The National Weather Service has confirmed that a tornado touched down in Ulster County on Wednesday, July 13, shortly before 9:00PM. Investigators determined that the EF-1 tornado with 90 mile per hour winds touched down 2 miles west of Kingston, near State Route 29, it then moved southeast to just west of the NY State Thruway where it uprooted and snapped trees, displaced a car canopy. Many homes were damaged by fallen trees, thousands lost power from the storm.

Delaware County Sheriff’s Deputies arrested 30-year-old Rory Smalls of Kingston Friday for aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle, following a traffic stop on State Highway 17 in Hancock. Smalls was found to have operated a motor vehicle at a high rate of speed, while having 8 active suspensions on his license, Smalls was arraigned at Hancock Village Court, and he was remanded to the Delaware County Jail in lieu of $500 bail.

U.S. Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand said she doesn't want to run for president or governor here in New York. Gillibrand has built a national profile in recent years, working on top-tier issues such as combating sexual assault in the military and allowing gay and lesbian soldiers to serve openly. Gillibrand would be a formidable Democrat should she enter the race for governor which is open once again in 2018. A strong campaign fundraiser, she would likely face competition for the Democratic nomination from Attorney General Eric Schneiderman should Gov. Andrew Cuomo not run for a third term.
18 year old Dayne Feehan didn’t know much about being a professional before this year. Now, he and a fellow Windsor High School student have received recognition for their management decision-making skills. Feehan and 17 year old Matthew Colosi competed June 29-July 2 in the Future Business Leaders of America National Leadership Conference in Chicago. They placed in the top 15, roughly in the top 2 percent of competitive FBLA chapters, in the Management Decision Making Competition
A man who was caught driving drunk did not have a license, according to the Otsego County Sheriff's Office. 41 year old Zacharias Fuller of Schenevus, was arrested after a one-car accident on Race Street in the village of Schenevus. He was charged with DWI, as well as aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle. He also faces several other misdemeanors and traffic violations. Fuller will appear in the Town of Maryland Court at a later date

An Otsego county jury found 2 Kingston men guilty of 1st degree attempted robbery and 4th -degree conspiracy last week. Jury deliberation lasted only 75 minutes, before issuing guilty verdicts on 24 year old Anthony Placido & 25 year old Victor Deleon, both were arrested for trying to rob 2 people at gunpoint in Oneonta on November 14th 2013. Both face sentencing on February 20th

State Police in Margaretville responded to an attempted robbery and shooting in the parking lot of the Hess Mart on State Route 28 in the Village of Margaretville today. The investigation led to one male suspect and two female suspects being taken into custody at the Budget 19 Motel located in Kingston, 3 suspects were questioned this afternoon, The investigation is ongoing.

Delaware County Sheriff's Deputies seized a quantity of drugs and arrested 35-year-old Francis Smith of Kingston today, after investigating illegally parked vehicles in Arkville. Smith was charged with Criminal Possession of a Weapon, which violated the terms of his probation in Ulster County. Smith is accused of possessing a switchblade knife, & he may also face drug possession charges upon completion of a laboratory analysis of the seized drugs. Smith was arraigned in the Town of Middletown Court and remanded to the Delaware County Jail on $1000 cash bail.

State Troopers in Oneonta arrested 17-year-old Charlmesha Graham of Albany, 18-year-old Mandisha Kelderhouse of Kingston, 18-year-old Cathie Labonte of Central Islip and 23-year-old Lavanessa Louis of Brooklyn for 2nd degree Harassment. The arrests were the results of an altercation at Oneonta Job Core All were arraigned in the Town of Oneonta Court and remanded to the Otsego County Jail on $150 cash bail.
