An Otsego County Grand Jury found 34-year-old Ryan Clark of Unadilla, also known as Tyler Clark, was guilty of rape, criminal sexual act and course of sexual conduct against a child. Clark's victims were under the ages of 15 and 13. Sentencing will be in Otsego County Court at a later date.

Otsego County Sheriff's Office arrested 33 year old John Rundblad Jr., of Fort Plain, for Burglary, Criminal Possession of a Weapon, Criminal Contempt, Menacing & Endangering the Welfare of a Child, following an investigation into a domestic dispute in the Village of Cooperstown. Deputies were dispatched to a report that a male subject had entered the residence unlawfully, displayed a knife and violated a valid order of protection, in presence of 2 children. Rundblad was located nearby and was taken into custody without incident, he was processed and turned over to Otsego County Corrections pending Centralized Arraignment.

Binghamton Police arrested 36 year old Patrick Shea for 2nd degree murder & 4th degree arson, following the investigation into the fire February 12th at 1 Main Street, where Binghamton firefighter John Gaudet died. The fire was ruled as an arson, Shea was arraigned by a Grand Jury in Broome County Court on Friday, he was remanded to the Broome County Jail without bail.

55 year old Jeffrey Kaufman of Downsville was sentenced to 364 days in jail for each count of 3rd degree Assault. Kaufman admitted to attempting to assault Police Officers, on July 28, 2024. Officer Bryanna Houck of the Colchester Police Department was engaged in an unrelated traffic stop, Kaufman exited his residence & began to yell obscenities at Officer Houck, who called for & received assistance. the officers placed Kaufman under arrest for Obstruction of Governmental Administration and Disorderly Conduct, Kaufman attempted to damage the cruiser & spit on & kick at an officer & was still combative at the police station.

The State Assembly released their report regarding their impeachment investigation into former Governor Andrew Cuomo. The legislative investigation found overwhelming evidence that Cuomo engaged in sexual harassment many times and ordered state workers to help produce his book on the COVID-19 pandemic during their normal work hours. The former governor was guaranteed at least $5.2 million in personal profit for the book, the investigation into whether the Governor will have to return that money is ongoing.

Broome County DA Michael Korchak announced that a jury in Broome County Court found Scott Mawhiney guilty Friday for the attempted murder of New York State Trooper Ryan Thorp in Deposit. Mawhiney was also found guilty of and aggravated assault of a police officer, criminal possession of a weapon, and 2nd-degree harassment. Trooper Thorp was shot by Mawhiney, when he was responding June 23rd to a domestic dispute in Deposit, Mawhiney faces sentencing at a later date.

Jury selection began in Broome County Court yesterday in the trial of 44-year old Scott Mawhiney of Deposit, who has been charged with 1st degree attempted murder, assault, criminal possession of a firearm and several other charges, for allegedly shooting Trooper Ryan Thorp on June 23rd. State Police and Broome County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to a home on Sunrise Terrace in Deposit when shots rang out and Trooper Thorp was wounded in the arm, Trooper Thorp is still recovering from his injuries.
Bassett Healthcare Network will be holding COVID-19 vaccination booster shot clinics, that will be open to the public. O’Connor Hospital in Delhi is holding a COVID-19 vaccine booster clinic on Saturday, from 8:00 AM to 11:00 AM, with the Moderna vaccine only. Appointments are required at 746-0525. Also, the FoxCare Center in Oneonta is holding a COVID-19 vaccine booster clinic on Saturday from 9:00 AM to 1:00 PM, that clinic will provide boosters for Moderna, Pfizer and Johnson & Johnson vaccines. 44-year-old Scott Mawhiney of Deposit pleaded not guilty to a 9 count indictment in Broome County Court Wednesday, he is accused of shooting State Trooper Ryan Thorp last month.  2 of the counts in the indictment were for attempted murder, bail has been set at $100,000 cash or $200,000 bond.  Mawhiney was arrested after troopers responded to the report of a domestic dispute in the Village of Deposit.
The Sidney Alumni Association will hold their alumni weekend Friday through Sunday Afternoon, after missing last year's event due to the COVID pandemic.  Spokesman Bryan Innes told WCDO news of some of the highlights:

Chenango County Sheriff's Department arrested 36 year old Kelly Gillet of Johnson City, for the shooting death of 39 year old John Ryan of Sherburne.  Ryan's body was found at 7 Gould Drive in Sherburne, Gillet was charged with 2nd degree murder, and she faces court action shortly.
Broome County District Attorney Michael Korchak announced that 20 year old Caleb Casteline of Johnson City Pleaded Guilty today to 1st degree manslaughter, for the stabbing of Q-Quan Richardson of Binghamton at a party in the town of Union in August.  Casteline is expected to be sentenced to 20 years in prison with 5 years of post-release supervision after pleading to the lesser charge.

The Otsego County Office of Emergency
Services confirmed that 5 firefighters were injured in a Middlefield garage
fire from a series of explosions Wednesday night at 3679 Otsego County Route
35.  The firefighters were James Tallman,
Jon Roach & Scott Monington of the Cooperstown Fire Department & John
Sears & Ryan Smith of the Middlefield Fire Department, Roach &
Monington were taken to a Syracuse Hospital for treatment of injuries, the
other 3 were treated at Bassett Hospital & were released.  Firefighters from Middlefield, Cooperstown,
Westford, Cherry Valley, and Milford responded to the fire Wednesday
night.  State Police, State office of
Fire Prevention & Control & the Otsego County Sheriff’s department are
investigating the cause & origin of the fire.

patronizing a prostitute,  Stemen had

Clinton Canoe Regatta officials announced that they will have their 12th Annual
Dan Elwood Memorial 5k Run and the Tracy Richmond 1 Mile Walk for Hospice on
Saturday, May 25th, at 9:00 AM at General Clinton Park, in Bainbridge.  There is a
$20 pre-registration fee, which will be accepted until Saturday, May
18th,  after that,  entrants may register the day of the race

State Police are investigating a 1 vehicle crash on State Route 357 in the town of Unadilla that troopers discovered while on patrol. The Unidentified 40 year old man apparently drove off the highway, into Guide wires & a tree, he was extricated by Unadilla Firefighter & he was airlifted to Wilson Hospital in Johnson City for treatment of head injuries & an arm fracture. The investigation is ongoing.
Otsego County Sheriff's department arrested 36 year old Ryan Biggs of Gloversville following an accident in Worcester Sunday. Biggs is accused of driving mentally & physically disabled people in an ARC vehicle while intoxicated, he was charged with DWI & endangering the welfare of an incompetent or disable person, he was released & faces court action at a later date.
State Police at Sidney arrested 39 year old John Forte of Unadilla for Aggravated DWI with a reported B.A.C of .21%. Troopers were dispatched to a complaint of an intoxicated driver, a trooper located the vehicle in the driveway of a residence on Depot Street, Forte was arrested & was released on appearance tickets returnable to the town of Unadilla Court on July 23, 2018 then later turned over to a sober third party.

Broome County Sheriff’s Department arrested 33 year old Emerson Ryan of Binghamton after a patrolling deputy observed a vehicle at 71 miles an hour in a posted 45 mile an hour zone.  The vehicle accelerated and then lost control on a curve, crashing into the ditch.  Ryan was charges with DWI, Driving with a BAC of .08% or higher, reckless driving & speed not reasonable & prudent, among other charges.   Ryan was released and issued tickets to return to the Town of Kirkwood court at a later date.

Attorney General Eric Schneiderman and the Broome County Sheriff's Office announced the seizure of 11 animals following a complaint of suspected animal neglect in the Town of Sanford & the execution of a search warrant, numerous cats, sheep, dogs, and foxes were removed from the property. 39 year old John Elmer was charged with failure to provide proper sustenance, failure to provide proper food, drink and wholesome air to an impounded animal; he was released on an appearance ticket in the Town of Sanford Court at a later date.

Delaware County Sheriff's Office Investigators arrested 30-year-old Scott Hanrahan of Deposit, 29-year-old Justin Crandall of Sidney, and 27-year-old John Bolster of Hancock, for promoting contraband within the Delaware County Correctional Facility. All 3 are incarcerated at the County Jail on unrelated charges, they are accused of possessing prescription medication prescribed to another inmate, they were charged with 1 count each of Promoting Prison Contraband, they face arraignment on the new charges in the Town of Delhi Court at a later time.

State Police arrested 28-year-old Ryan Markoff of Binghamton and 31-year-old Angela Weyrauch of Binghamton, for 3 counts of Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance, after a traffic stop on Frost Road in the Town of Windsor. During a search of the suspects and their vehicle a small amount of marihuana, heroin and meth was found. Markoff was additional charged with Unlawful Possession of Marihuana and other traffic violations. Both suspects were issued tickets returnable to the Town of Windsor Court on December 28, 2016.

The Otsego County Sheriff's Office reported that 24 year old Ryan Sutcliffe of Cumberland, Rhode Island was sleeping in his tent when a large tree limb, broke off & landed on him, at about 12:45 AM Saturday at the Grand Slam Camp Ground on County Highway 18 in the town of Morris. Sutcliffe was taken to Chenango County Memorial Hospital in Norwich where he was declared deceased. The investigation is continuing.

State Police responded to the report of a robbery at the Mirabito Quickway in Otego early Thursday morning.  29 year old Ryan Kennedy of Unadilla, is accused of entering the store armed with what appeared to be a black pistol and fled the store in a 2000 GMC pick up truck after stealing gasoline, cigarettes, beer, and snack items.  State Police observed the pick up on State Route 205 in the town of Hartwick where Kennedy failed to comply and a pursuit was initiated and ended when the vehicle became disabled.  Troopers discovered that the vehicle had been stolen from Unadilla; Kennedy was taken into custody and was charged with Robbery, Grand Larceny, Aggravated Felony DWI, and various traffic charges.  Kennedy had a BAC of .19; he was arraigned & was remanded to Otsego County Jail.
The Otsego County Chamber of Commerce will hold their Annual Awards Dinner and Celebration of Business this evening.  The event begins at 5:45 Pm at the Hunt Union Ballroom at SUNY Oneonta with music, dinner and program at 6:45PM. Brewery Ommegang will be awarded the Simon Thorpe Distinguished Business Award & Attorney John Scarzafava will be awarded the Eugene Bettiol Distinguished Citizen Award.

The Delaware County Sheriffs Office Criminal Investigations Division arrested 29 year old John Donaldson Jr. of Walton Monday for 1 count of 2nd degree Burglary, Petty Larceny and Criminal Possession of a controlled substance.  Donaldson was arraigned in the Town of Delhi Court & was remanded to the Delaware County Jail on $2,500.00 cash bail pending a felony hearing Friday.
State Police arrested 24-year-old Ryan Meyerhoffer of Windsor for driving while intoxicated, aggravated unlicensed operation and other vehicle and traffic law violations.  The arrest followed an investigation into a 1-car accident on Interstate 81 in Binghamton, Meyerhoffer was found to be intoxicated and having a suspended driver license.  He was processed, refused a breath test, and was issued tickets returnable to the Binghamton court on October 4th.

President Obama's visit to Binghamton University this Friday has been limited to a very small audience.  Tickets will be distributed Wednesday at noon via an online lottery pool.  There will only be one entry permitted per person, and only one ticket will be awarded per entry selected.  Participation is limited to students, faculty and staff at B.U., along with a few select local dignitaries including Broome County Executive Debbie Preston, Binghamton Mayor Matt Ryan and Vestal Supervisor John Schaffer. The President will lay out a plan to make college more affordable, tackle rising costs, and improve value for students and their families.  The town hall event will take place inside the Old University Union at 12:45 on Friday, although attendees will need to be in place much earlier. Traffic will be disrupted on campus for much of the day with the main entrance and campus loop closed from 10:00 am until 3:00 pm. The university is still working on determining designated areas for anti-fracking or gun rights protestors.
A Johnson City man has been indicted in connection with the murder of his neighbor in Broome County Court.  Christopher T. Davis, 43, faces charges of murder in the first degree, two counts of murder in the second degree and robbery in the first degree.  Police responded to a 911 call for 36 Brown St. in Johnson City July 8th.  There, they found 50-year-old Patricia LaCaprara dead in her home as a result of traumatic head injuries.

State Police, Delaware County sheriff’s deputies & Walton Police responded on February 19th to a murder-suicide & arson at 294 John Lockwood Road in the Town of Walton.  After the fire was extinguished, 2 sets of remains were removed; one was identified as 47 year old Debra Sundstrom of 1884 South River Road in Walton, from suicide by a gunshot to the head.  On Friday, a 3rd set of human remains was located at 1884 South River Road, who was identified as 49 year old Randy Sundstrom, the husband of Debra Sundstrom, his death was ruled as a homicide, Randy Sundstrom’s death may have occurred during February of 2010. . The second set of human remains from the February 19th fire was identified as the homeowner-51 year old Dominick Bosco, the cause of his death is undetermined.  Anyone with information is asked to contact the State Police at 561-7400.  The investigation is continuing.
State Police investigated a 1-Car fatal motor vehicle accident on Afton Lake Road at around 2:20 AM Sunday.  The investigation revealed that 22-year-old Ryan Lewis of Harpursville lost control of his vehicle while negotiating a curve; he struck a tree with the passenger side. 24 year old Joelyn Sines of Harpursville was a front seat passenger, she was pronounced dead at the scene, 22 year old Mitchell Birch of Afton and 22 year old Caleb Gregory of Afton, were both transported to Wilson hospital in Johnson City, Lewis has been charged with 2nd Vehicular Manslaughter and Driving While Intoxicated, he was transported to Wilson hospital, he faces action in Town of Afton Court at a later date.  The investigation is continuing.

Area Republican Congressmen Richard Hanna & Chris Gibson and 15 Republican Colleagues sent a letter to Speaker John Boehner and Majority Leader Eric Cantor urging that the House of Representatives reauthorize the Violence Against Women Act.  The Violence Against Women Act was first signed into law in 1994 and subsequently reauthorized in 2000 and 2005.  During the 112th Congress, both the House of Representatives and Senate passed their own versions but no final legislation was presented for a vote in either chamber.
State Troopers arrested 19-year-old Ryan Vanfleet of Goshen for Unlawful Possession of Marihuana and 18-year-old Devin  Clark of Warwick for Criminal Possession of Marihuana.  The arrests were the result of a traffic stop on State Route 17 in Windsor, Vanfleet and  Clark were issued Appearance Tickets returnable to the Town of Windsor Court on February 26th.
