State Police responded to a head on collision on State Route 17 in the town of Nichols 90 year old John McCarthy of Elmira was driving the wrong way on 17 after leaving the Nichols rest area, he crashed into a vehicle driven by 65 year old Sandra Spaeth of Rome Pennsylvania. She was transported to Packer Hospital for non-life threatening injuries. McCarthy was pronounced deceased at the scene.
Delaware County Sheriff's Deputies and Walton Fire and Emergency Squad members were dispatched Early Saturday morning to Upper East Brook Road in the Town of Walton following a report of an off-road, personal injury motor vehicle accident involving a pedestrian entanglement. a number of campers were sleeping in a field when a truck driven by 30 year old Dustin Truman of Walton, drove over 24 year old William Pregnall of Poughkeepsie, who was sleeping on the trail when he and his sleeping bag became entangled in the truck’s front wheel and undercarriage and had to be extricated by Walton Fire and Emergency Squad members. Pregnall was transported to Delaware Valley Hospital and was transferred to U.H.S. Wilson Hospital in Johnson City for further medical treatment. No charges have been filed at this time as Deputies are continuing their investigation.

Residents in the town of Sidney will be voting for a new town supervisor in November, as incumbent Bob McCarthy is not running for a 2nd term.  Republican Gene Pigford is running for town supervisor, who told WCDO news about his ideas:

Pigford faces democrat & Sidney First Candidate Bill Heath for Sidney town supervisor on Election Day in November.
About 9,000 state workers could get a raise and a regular salary review if Governor Cuomo signs legislation proposed by state Senator John DeFrancisco of Syracuse.  The bill would affect state workers designated as managerial or confidential, who are not represented by unions, & who have not had a raise since 2008. The proposal calls for the state to create a commission to analyze salaries of non-unionized state workers and report recommendations about pay changes every four years. Governor Cuomo has until September 27th to sign or veto the bill.
