The City of Oneonta is accepting applications for a firefighter civil service exam to be held on January 10, 2026. The application deadline is December 10, Applications can be submitted in person or by mail to the Oneonta Civil Service Commission at City Hall at 258 Main Street and the starting salary for 2026 hires is $52,000. Today is Election Day, with several important local races in the Tri County Region:

The Town of Sidney has several key races this year, Incumbents Town Supervisor Eric Wilson faces a challenge from Giffen Ott, 5 candidates are seeking 2 seats on the Sidney Town Board, Incumbents Bill Heath & Frank Selleck are seeking re-election, they face challengers Andrew Hinkley, Richard DeCola & Jesse Wakeman. 44 year old Jennifer Williams of Port Crane pleaded guilty to Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance and was sentenced to 5 years of felony probation supervision in Delaware County Court. On February 21, 2023, a Delaware County Sheriff’s Deputy conducted a welfare check of a vehicle which appeared to have broken down on State Highway 17 in Hancock, Williams, was a passenger in the vehicle & was in possession Methamphetamine. The driver of the vehicle, Eva Witteman, was recently sentenced to 1.5 years in state prison on similar charges. Judge Hubbard sentenced Williams to 5 years of felony probation supervision, if she fails to comply with the terms of her probation supervision, she could be re-sentenced to 2.5 years in state prison.

Delaware County Sheriff's Office arrested 43 year old Jennifer Williams for Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance, following a disabled vehicle investigation. On February 20th, 2023, Deputies observed a vehicle with its hazards flashing On State Highway 17 in the Town of Hancock. During the course of investigation drugs and drug paraphernalia were recovered. On August 10th, 2023, a Sealed Indictment Warrant was issued for Williams arrest for Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance with Intent to Sell, last week Fallsburg Police Department located Williams and took her into custody, she was returned to Delaware County where she was held in the Delaware County Correctional Facility without bail.

State Troopers arrested 36-year-old Jennifer Hopkins of Oneonta, 29-year-old Summer Eldred of Davenport & 23-year-old Brett Kachel of Oneonta for Petty Larceny. The arrests followed a shoplifting complaint from the Oneonta Wal-Mart accusing the 3 suspects for acting together to steal items worth $740; they were issued tickets returnable to the Town of Oneonta court on October 18th.

The Cullman Child Center of Sidney will have an open house for the community Thursday evening. Cullman Director Amy Williams told WCDO News what is special about the facility:
