The Chenango County District Attorney's Office reported that Kevin Roof of Binghamton pleaded guilty to a January 2017 burglary on Algerine Street in Afton. Roof will be sentenced to 8 1/2 years in prison, plus 5 years of post-release supervision. Roof pleaded guilty to the burglary, in which he was shot during the incident, he was taken to Wilson Hospital and treated for non-life-threatening injuries. James Fletcher of Greene was also arrested in connection to the incident, he pleaded guilty last year to attempted burglary and will be sentenced to 3 years in prison with 5 years of post-release supervision.

State Police arrested 44-year-old Kevin Roof of Binghamton, for 2nd degree Burglary. After consultation with Chenango County District Attorney Joseph McBride, State Police arrested Roof after his release from the hospital where he had been treated for a non-life threatening gunshot wound to his upper leg, which he received during the course of his criminal conduct in the town of Afton on Algerine street on January 30th. Roof was arraigned and was remanded to the Chenango County Jail on $50,000 cash bail, $500,000 property bond pending future court action in Afton Town Court. 34-year-old James Fletcher was also charged with 2nd degree burglary in connection with this case, the investigation is continuing. On Monday Morning at about 11:10 a.m., Chenango County 911 received a report of shots being fired in the area of Algerine Street, in the Town of Afton. Responding Troopers located a male subject suffering from a shotgun wound to his upper leg, he was transported to Wilson Hospital in Johnson City, where he was being treated for his non-life threatening injury. The circumstances of how this subject was injured is currently under investigation. The continuing investigation determined a burglary had occurred in the Town of Afton. After consultation with Chenango County District Attorney Joseph McBride, State Police arrested 34 year old James Fletcher of Greene, for 2nd degree Burglary. Fletcher was arraigned in Town of Afton Court and was remanded to the Chenango County jail on $50,000 cash bail or $100,000 bond. The investigation into this incident is ongoing, Anyone with information is requested to contact State Police at 561-7400.

The Chenango County Sheriff’s office arrested James Fletcher of Coventry on an active arrest warrant for 2nd degree Burglary.  Fletcher was charged for allegedly unlawfully entering a residence and stealing Jewelry, he is being held in the Chenango County Jail pending future court action.

The family of long time Franklin firefighter James Wilber, has established “Jim’s Fire Squad” where they plan to donate toy fire trucks to children battling cancer at Saint Jude's Children's Research Hospital.  Wilber succumbed to a heart attack while responding to a call on February 9th tragically lost his life on the way to a call; he had served in area fire departments for 40 years.  Donated toy fire trucks in honor of Jim Wilber's memory can be sent to: Jim's Fire Squad 33 Watercrest Drive Franklin, New York 13775
A former Walton teacher, who was indicted on charges of rape and having sex with 2 underage students, has been charged again for those crimes.  29-year-old Stephanie Fletcher is charged with 2 counts of 3rd degree rape and 4 counts of 3rd degree criminal sexual act.  Fletcher is accused of having sex with two minors under 17 between January and March 2012. The new indictment was filed on March 6th; Fletcher will be arraigned in Delaware County Court March 27th

28 year old Stephanie Fletcher of Walton pleaded not guilty at arraignment Tuesday in Delaware County Court for 2 counts of 3rd degree rape, 1 count of 3rd degree criminal sexual act, 2 counts of endangering the welfare of a child, for allegedly performing sexual acts with 2 under aged students, while serving as a teacher in the Walton district.  Fletcher faces action in Delaware county court later this year.
The Chenango county sheriffs department charged 33-year-old James Barnett of Norwich on a probation violation and 4th degree grand larceny.   Barnett was arraigned the Town of Norwich court and is being held at the Chenango County Correction Facility on $1000 cash bail, he is scheduled to appear in the Town of Preston Court at a later date.
