Governor Kathy Hochul today announced that various Municipalities in the Mohawk Valley, received Downtown Revitalization Initiative funds, locally the Village of Morris will receive $4.5 million as winners of the 4th round of the NY Forward program. Morris will invest in sidewalks, streetscapes and housing to strengthen its downtown region in order to make the village a more popular tourist location.

Progress is being made towards the early childhood education center in the lower level of the new Commerce Chenango Building at 19 East Main Street, in downtown Norwich. The project is being coordinated by Commerce Chenango, in collaboration with the City of Norwich, the Chenango County Industrial Development Agency, & "The Place" The center is approved to serve 52 children, featuring classrooms, a play room, and dedicated outdoor space, the project is expected to be completed & open in October.
Village of Sidney reminds local residents that the Department of Public Works will be continuing with Spring Brush Removal, crews will be doing brush pick up the first week of every month. The Bainbridge Chamber of Commerce will be celebrating the 250th anniversary of the country by placing American Flags along the village streets and purchasing buntings for the businesses. The City of Norwich and Chenango County Emergency Operations Center have issued a travel advisory for motorists using state Route 12 for bridge work on the Route 12 bridge over the Canasawacta Creek at the Southern end of the City. Work began earlier this week & is expected to take about 2 weeks to complete, Motorists can expect delays, drivers are advised to seek alternate routes during the work period.

State Police arrested 33 year old Michael Davis Jr. of Unadilla Wednesday for Grand Larceny, following an investigation of a couple from Unadilla looking for a contractor to complete work at their residence. Davis was hired, The couple provided him Davis with $1,500 for materials, but failed to start the work. Davis was arrested and was issued an appearance ticket to the Unadilla Town Court on April 21, 2026.

21 year old Connor Steidle of South Carolina pleaded guilty in Delaware County Court to attempted criminal possession of a weapon & was sentenced to 3 years in state prison followed by 3 years of post release supervision. On December 12th, 2025, Steidle reportedly threatened his girlfriend in Sidney with a loaded pistol, Sidney Police & A State Trooper arrested Steidle, he was also ordered to stay away from the victim after completing his prison sentence.
Governor Kathy Hochul today announced $250 million to help communities afford water and sewer infrastructure improvements. The Environmental Facilities Corporation Board of Directors approved financing and State and federal grants for a number of local governments to access for crucial upgrades. Locally, Funding was approved for the Village of Bainbridge, they will receive $7.5 million in State grants and low-cost financing for the replacement of approximately 13,000 linear feet of water main and waterlines plus the replacement of Well No. 1 and backup power installation for Wells 1 and 3. The Town of Hancock, will receive $3 million in federal grant and interest-free financing for the creation of the Fishs Eddy Water System.

Delaware County Sheriff's Office arrested 37 year old Christina LoRusso of Hamden following an investigation of a 1 car accident on February 19th. Deputies were dispatched to State Route 10 near the County Solid Waste Management Facility in the Town of Walton. Lorusso drove off the roadway and over an embankment, crashing into the State DOT perimeter fencing, causing her vehicle to become stuck, she was charged with Driving While Intoxicated and Moving from Lane Unsafely. Lorusso was released on summonses, directing her to appear in the Town of Walton Court at a later date, to answer the charges. Additionally, on the morning of February 20th, Deputies were notified of additional damage at the Solid Waste Facility front gate from Lorusso’s vehicle, she was charged with Leaving the Scene of a Property Damage Accident.

The projects improve water quality, safeguard public health and the environment and contribute an estimated 30,000 jobs. UHS Delaware Valley Hospital has been awarded a $20 million grant through the State Department of Health. The Hospital recently announced plans to build a 4-story addition & the grant will support that expansion. The new building will house primary medical care services, specialty services, physical, occupational & speech therapy and a laboratory, The Medical Neighborhood Project is expected to begin shortly, with the anticipated completion by the end of 2027.
The Deposit and Hancock Central School Districts Boards of Education have voted to move forward with a merger feasibility study, to see if it would be advantageous to combine the 2 districts. The New York State Education Department will provide up to $100,000 to help pay for the study, which will Review district enrollment, staffing, facilities, finances, and programs, weigh the possible benefits and challenges of merging and Gather input from people from both districts. Updates will be shared on district websites, newsletters, and at public meetings.

State Police and the Broome County Sheriff’s Department responded to a residential fire at a home on Broad Street in the town of Chenango, A 26-year-old female resident had been able to get herself and two children, ages five and two, out of the home, but was unable to get to a one-year-old due to the heavy thick smoke. Troopers and Sheriff’s Deputies were able to get in through a window and get the one-year-old out of the home. The child was transported to Upstate Medical Center and passed away from the injuries sustained in the fire. Troopers are working with Broome County Fire Investigators to determine the cause of the fire.

Public Meeting #1 for the Otsego Lake Watershed Protection Plan will be held Today, from 6:00 to 8:00 pm. at Glimmerglass State Park in the Lakeview Pavilion, at County Road 31, Cooperstown. The public meeting will provide an overview of the planning process and the desired outcome of the Watershed Protection Plan. A community survey will be launched during the public meeting and will be available for at least one month to gather additional input from the community. The Department of State provided funding to develop a Plan that identifies water quality threats and recommends local actions to safeguard the resource. Water quality in Otsego Lake is changing because of climate change, invasive species, and harmful inputs to the lake, the plan will identify causes of the degrading water quality and define specific actions to protect the lake and watershed.

In the Delaware County Republican Primary for the Treasurer's race, Carli Pinner defeated Ronda Williams with 56% of the vote, in the Town of Colchester, Robert Hafele will be the Republican candidate for Colchester Town Supervisor, David Rubera win the nomination in the Hancock town Supervisors race, James Ellis wins the nod in the Meredith Town Supervisors race, In the town of Sidney Board race, the nominees will be Frank Selleck & Andrew Hinkley, and for the Walton town board, the nominees will be Luis Rodriguez-Betancourt and Kevin Armstrong. In Chenango County, Ronald Sherman & Joel Lawrence won the Republican Party Nomination for Afton Town Board.

State Police responded to a 2-vehicle crash on State Route 11 in the town of Kirkwood. Investigators reported that Denise Ellis of Binghamton, was making a left turn when she failed to yield the right of way to a vehicle traveling north on State Route 11, the 2nd vehcile driven by 73 year old Nora Gibson of Pennsylvania, rolled as a result of the collision. Ellis was transported to Wilson Medical Center, her passenger was not injured, Gibson and a 74-year-old occupant were both transported to Wilson Medical Center. Ellis was ticketed, all injuries are believed to be non-life threatening.
Delaware County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to a 1 Car Motor Vehicle Accident on County Highway 21 in the Town of Walton, they identified the driver as 75-year-old Erol Tural of Walton, Deputies charged Tural with, DWI and driving with a blood alcohol content of .08% or greater, Moving from a Lane Unsafely, Speed not Reasonable & other charges, Tural was released on appearance tickets and traffic summonses and was directed to appear in the Town of Walton Court at a later date.

State Police arrested 32 year old Jason Hubbell of Cooperstown, for 2nd degree Burglary, Criminal Mischief and Resisting Arrest. Troopers were dispatched to a report of a domestic dispute in Roseboom, Hubbell allegedly kicked in the front door of a residence, broke a secondary door then drove his vehicle into the victim’s vehicle before leaving the area. Troopers were able to locate Hubbell in Middlefield where he resisted arrest. Hubbell was ultimately taken into custody and later transported to the Otsego County Jail for Centralized Arraignment.

State Police arrested 29 year old Daniel Nelson of Bloomville for 2nd degree Assault, after Troopers responded to a residence in Cooperstown for a report of a domestic dispute on June 22. Troopers later learned that the other person was checked out at a local hospital and was treated for broken bones stemming from injuries sustained during the argument, Nelson was arrested and later transported to the Otsego County Jail for Centralized Arraignment.
Commerce Chenango announced that they will hold an Open House at their new location at 19 East Main Street in Norwich, Today from 4:30 to 6:30 PM, those in attendance will get to see the plans for the Early Learning Center that will be located on the 1st floor of that building.
A.O. Fox Hospital will be conducting a routine water flow test of its fire sprinkler system today at approximately 6 pm. The test will last 1 to 2 Hours. Residents in the immediate area may notice a temporary drop in water pressure or a slight discoloration of water during and directly following the testing period. Delaware County Sheriff’s Deputies responded Monday to a domestic incident involving a male subject with a stab wound. Upon arrival, Deputies found the victim with a stab wound to his leg and cuts to his hands. Deputies provided first aid until EMS arrived, the victim was taken to Wilson Hospital in Johnson City. Deputies arrested 63-year-old Alfredo Chico for 2nd degree Assault, Menacing and Criminal Possession of a Weapon, he was arraigned & was remanded to the Delaware County Correctional Facility on $15,000 cash bail or $30,000 secured bond.

State Police & Chenango County Sheriff's Office & State Forest Rangers are looking for 71 year old Charles Skellet, who was last seen on June 14th at a residence where he was staying on Seymour Hill Road in Coventry. Police said that Skellet has multiple medical concerns, State police are utilizing Troopers on the ground, K9 units, drones and New York State Police aviation equipment.
44 year old Jerry Green of Binghamton, pleaded guilty to 2nd degree Assault in Broome County Court during the second day of his jury trial. Green admitted to assaulting another man with a metal pipe during a violent incident on September 27, 2024, at a residence located at 38 Pine Street, in the City of Binghamton. Green will be sentenced on September 12, 2025, before the Honorable Carol A. Cocchiola, and is expected to receive six years in New York State Prison, followed by five years of postrelease supervision.

Chenango County Sheriff's Office arrested 36 year old Charles Hall of New Berlin for Unlawful Fleeing a Police Officer in a Motor Vehicle, Reckless Endangerment and Aggravated Unlicensed Operation of a Motor Vehicle. Deputies attempted to conduct a traffic stop on a vehicle Hall was operating in the Town of Columbus, he failed to comply and led Deputies on a pursuit into Otsego County. After an investigation, Hall turned himself into Deputies, he was released on an appearance ticket to appear in the Town of Columbus Court on a later date.
Broome County District Attorney F. Paul Battisti announced the allocation of $52,500 in funding to support enhanced summer traffic safety & community policing patrols throughout the County. The fund from the DA’s Traffic Diversion Program, will be distributed to the Binghamton, Endicott, Johnson City & Vestal Police Departments and the Broome County Sheriff Office.
Oneonta Officials announced that due to the Muller Plaza Stage project, that today until 2:00 pm, there will be No Parking on Main Street between the Key Bank and Wescott Parking Lot stairway on both sides of the street. State Police arrested 21 year old Nathan Kurtz of Bainbridge for Driving While Intoxicated and Leaving the Scene of a Property Damage Accident. Troopers responded to a report of a vehicle that was disabled on County Road 48 and that it had left the scene of an accident. Troopers determined that Kurtz had driven the vehicle impaired and damaged a yard, he was transported to the Oneonta barracks where he was evaluated by a Drug Recognition Expert. Kurtz was processed and issued appearance tickets to the Otego Town Court on October 17th.

The Broome County District Attorney’s Office announced Tuesday that Michael Gibson of Endicott has been sentenced for rape in the first degree, he will serve 17 years in prison for the crime, followed by 15 years of post-release supervision. Gibson admitted to performing sexual acts with a victim who was under the age of 13 in Summer 2023, the office said. He pleaded guilty to the crime in February.
Delaware County Sheriffs Office Criminal Investigations Division received a complaint in April from Delaware County Probation Department that a person supervised by the Probation Department was suspected of communicating with underage children in a sexual manner. On July 3rd, the Division arrested and charged 27-year-old Dylan Brooks, of Hancock for 1 count of Disseminating Indecent Material to Minors, and 1 count of Endangering the Welfare of Child, Brooks is alleged to have violated his terms and conditions of probation by using an unauthorized phone and social media account to engage in conversations of a sexual nature with a 16-year-old child, proceeding to then send photos of a pornographic nature to the underage child. Brooks was released on an appearance ticket returnable to the Town of Hancock Court at a later date.

State Police & The State Office of Cannabis Management has continued to execute search warrants on businesses suspected of illegally selling Marijuana without possessing a license to do so. The Broome County Sheriff’s Strategic Response Group arrested 59 year old Kenneth Jordan of Endicott On Saturday. During a traffic stop in Binghamton, deputies observed a knotted plastic bag hanging out of his pocket, Jordan to be in the possession of fentanyl, cocaine, plus cash from suspected drug sales. Jordan was charged with Criminal Possession of Narcotics with Intent to Sell, Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance, speeding and several other related charges, Jordan was arraigned and released after being issued appearance tickets returnable to the City of Binghamton Court.
64 year old Johannes Vulto of Vulto Creamery LLC in Walton, was sentenced in federal court on July 9 for his company’s connection to a listeriosis outbreak from the cheese they produced & sold in in 2016 and 2017 that resulted in the death of 2 people and 8 hospitalizations. Vulto was sentenced to 3 years probation and ordered to pay a $100,000 fine, along with 240 hours of mandated community services. Vulto Creamery went out of business after the listeria issue.
The State DOT will host a public information meeting from 5 pm. to 7 pm. on Tuesday, July 16, pertaining to a proposed project along State Route 23 and State Route 28 in the Town of Oneonta, that may begin in the spring of 2026. 42 year old Mary Cutting of Sidney was sentenced to 6 years of incarceration to be followed by 3 years of post-release supervision, for selling fentanyl and methamphetamine in the Village of Sidney. State Police performed 2 controlled purchases of illegal drugs from Cutting, A Delaware County Grand Jury returned a 2-count indictment for Criminal Sale of a Controlled Substance, Cutting was sentenced to 3 years in prison with 2 years of post-release supervision, she requested multiple adjournments of her sentencing, she is accused of committing additional crimes during that time. Cutting was apprehended on April 8th, the DA's office moved to void the previous plea agreement & they requested the 6 year sentence.

Oneonta Police Department responded last night to investigate a reported gunshot wound victim at Fox Hospital's emergency room. Officers learned that a 51-year-old male victim was transported by a 3rd party in a private vehicle, which left the scene prior to the arrival of police. The victim stated that he was on Chestnut Street when he was injured by a bullet. Police searched the location & no evidence was found. Hospital Security Staff were able to provide surveillance video of the vehicle and individual dropping the victim off at the hospital. An Otsego County Deputy located the vehicle on I-88 and initiate a traffic stop. 3 people were in the vehicle, Police discovered that the incident may have occurred on River Street between Mitchell and Wilcox, but no evidence was located, Anyone with any information should contact Oneonta Police at (607) 432-1111, or at local.nixle.com/tip/city-of-oneonta.
The Binghamton Police Department arrested a 17-year-old from Johnson City for leaving the scene of a pedestrian hit-and-run Tuesday afternoon. On February 21, 2023, a Delaware County Sheriff’s Deputy, conducted a welfare check of a vehicle which appeared to be broke down on State Highway 17 in Hancock, Witteman had a suspended license, & was charged with Aggravated Unlicensed Operation of a Vehicle, & she possessed 12 grams of methamphetamine. Witteman pleaded guilty to the drug charge, she was to 5 years of felony probation supervision. if she violates probation, she could be re-sentenced to 2.5 years in state prison.

Governor Kathy Hochul signed legislation which aims to protect consumers during storms and other emergencies by requiring utility companies to develop plans to prioritize responding to reports of downed wires. If a member of the public identifies a downed wire that presents a hazard, they now can report that wire to their utility, which must respond to no later than 72 hours after the response to an emergency ends. Previously, the power companies only had to have a plan to securing a wire on a schedule if the wire was reported by a municipal emergency official.

State Police announced that 41 year old David Maycumber of Newfield, was indicted by the Tioga County Grand Jury and was arraigned before the Tioga County Court for 1st & 2nd Degree murder, Kidnapping and Intimidating a witness, in connection with the kidnapping & murder of Thomas Rath in Tioga County earlier this year. To date, 13 subjects have been arrested for various felonies regarding the murder investigation of Thomas Rath.

Several Area Fire companies responded to a fire this afternoon at 2050 State Route 206, in Masonville. The Fire was reported shortly before 1:00 PM & was fully engulfed when the first firefighters arrived. 48 year old John Jaromack formerly of Franklin, in Delaware County Court Friday for 2 counts of Criminal Sexual Act. Jaromack engaged in 2 or more sexual acts with a child less than 11 years old, in the town of Franklin & at least one act with a child less than 13 years old, in the town of Franklin. The sentences will run consecutively so that Jaromack will be sentenced to a total of 10 years in state prison and 10 years of post-release supervision, he will also have to register as a sex offender after he is released from state prison.
Delaware County Sheriff's Deputies arrested 42 year old Leslie McClennon of Walton for Obstructing Governmental Administration. On August 16th, Deputies assisted State Police and the Walton Police Department in locating a male who had numerous Arrest Warrants issued for his arrest by multiple agencies. McClennon is accused of misleading Deputies & purposely interfering and obstructing their investigation, she is also accused of assisting the wanted male in fleeing law enforcement. McClennon was released on an appearance ticket for the Town of Walton court at a later date.

Musci was charged with leaving the scene of a property damage auto accident, Operating a Motor Vehicle while impaired by drugs and driving while intoxicated, he was released and will appear in the Town of Delhi Court at a later date.

U.S. Attorney's Office announced that Amphenol has agreed to pay the United States $18 million dollars to resolve allegations for violating the False Claims Act. Amphenol admitted to filing false claims for electrical connectors to the U.S. government, that failed to fully comply with government regulations and contract specifications as well as the failure to meet required testing standards and other manufacturing and program requirements, between 2012 and 2017.
State Police arrested 65 year old Kenneth Powers & 28 year old Chelsea Gouse of Bedford Pennsylvania, for 22 counts of Overdriving, torturing and injuring animals & failure to provide proper sustenance. Troopers went to an apartment in Richfield Springs on another matter on July 19th, and discovered 22 animals inside living in crowded and filthy conditions. 10 dogs, 10 cats & 2 rabbits were removed & surrendered to the Susquehanna SPCA and were treated for various medical conditions, Powers and Gouse were processed and were issued appearance tickets to Richfield Springs Village Court on August 15th.

The new unit consists of a supervisor and 2 full-time investigators, including a trained K9 handler that can search for drugs and various contraband inside the facility. The Unit has made 8 arrests resulting in 6 felonies and 3 misdemeanors, ranging from Promoting prison contraband to assault, to criminal mischief.

43 year old Nicholas Marte of Mount Upton was sentenced to 1 year of Drug Treatment Court, along with 5 years of felony probation supervision in Delaware County Court. Marte pleaded guilty to Attempted Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance, on Monday he was sentenced on his conviction, he must enroll in and successfully complete Adult Treatment Court.
Otsego County Sheriff's Office arrested 34 year old Jesse Dilatush of Burlington following an investigation of a burglary which occurred in 2022. Dilatush was charged with Burglary, Grand Larceny Petty Larceny & Criminal Mischief, he is accused of forcing his way into a dwelling and stealing a Kubota tractor which was later found abandoned in the Town of Burlington. Chenango County Sheriff’s Office located Dilatush in the Town of Columbus and he was turned over to investigators for arrest processing, he was being held at the Otsego County Correctional Facility pending court proceedings.

Delaware County Sheriff's Deputies arrested of 32 year old Darin Wignall of Binghamton, On the morning of June 29th, Deputies initiated a traffic stop on State Highway 17 in the Town of Hancock, Wignall was found to have been operating a motor vehicle on a public highway while his driver's license had been suspended 14 times. Wignall was charged with Aggravated Unlicensed Operation of a motor vehicle & Uninspected Motor Vehicle, he was released with an appearance ticket for Town of Hancock Court at a later date.

State Comptroller's office announced the results of an audit of the Oxford Academy and Central School District. District officials did not comply with competitive bidding requirements for 33 of 35 transportation contracts totaling $322,056, fuel credit card purchases resulting totaling $16,258 did not comply with district procedures, and that vehicle repair invoices and parts ordered by the vehicle maintenance and repair vendor were not reviewed to verify that the parts ordered were for district vehicles.
The Town of Sidney Highway Department announced that Back River Road will be closed from Rte 357 to Exit 10 starting June 26th thru June 28th. It will also be closed July 5th and July 6th for paving, area motorists are advised to use other local roads during the work periods.

The Oneonta Common Council held a special meeting last week, they voted to demolish the municipal parking garage, new plans call for the building of a new garage and possibly re-imagining the area into a new transit hub, Consulting firm Wendell Companies reported to the council that the whole project could cost up to $30 Million Dollars.

The State Department of Health Bureau of Tobacco Control is releasing 3 new reports that point to the effectiveness of ongoing tobacco control policies adopted in the State over the last few years. The New York Youth Tobacco Survey of middle and high school students, found a decrease in cigarette smoking from 27.1% in 2000 to an all-time low of 2.1% among high school students. A 2nd report showed a decrease from 14.1% to 12.0% between 2017 and 2021. A 3rd report found that flavored vaping product sales and use decreased across the State following the implementation of a ban on flavored vaping products and new limits on the legal age to purchase other products.
The State Board of Elections has announced the release of Online Voter Registration website, which allows State residents to register to vote for the 1st time or update their voter registration, including their name, address or party affiliation. The website is located at elections.ny.gov/OnlineVoterReg. The next election will be the 2023 State and Local Primary which will be held on Tuesday, June 27. Early voting will take place from Saturday, June 17 to Sunday, June 25. The deadline to register to vote for the June Primary is Saturday, June 17.

State Police at Sidney responded to a crash involving a tractor trailer and SUV on State Route 8 near County Road 35 in the town of Guilford. An investigation at the scene revealed that the SUV was on State Route 35 when the vehicle entered the intersection and collided with a tractor trailer that had been traveling on State Route 8. The driver of the SUV, 27 year old Erin Hazen of South New Berlin was transported to A.O Fox Hospital - Tri Town. A passenger in the vehicle, a 3-year-old male was not injured. The driver of the tractor trailer, 51 year old Sergei Maliutin of Cohoes, did not report any injury.
Delaware County District Attorney's office announced that 31 year old Derek Wignall of Hancock was sentenced to a split sentence of six months incarceration in the County Jail and a subsequent five-year period of felony probation supervision for the crime of Criminal Contempt. On July 12, 2022, Wignall violated an Order of Protection, & threatened to kill the victim, he was arrested by Troopers. On April 3, Wignall pleaded guilty to the charge.
Delaware County Sheriff's office arrested 33 year old Christopher Snyder of West Winfield for driving with a suspended New York State Driver’s license. On Saturday afternoon, May 27th, 2023, Sheriff’s Deputies observed a vehicle traveling on State Highway 206 in the Town of Walton, at 75 mph in a posted 55 mph zone. Upon conducting a traffic stop, Snyder's driving privileges were suspended, he was arrested and was charged with Aggravated Unlicensed Operation of a Motor Vehicle, speeding and failing to surrender NYS License to DMV, Snyder released and is scheduled to appear in the Town of Colchester Court at a later date.

Virginia State Police said that a trooper spotted the Jeep Cherokee that was the suspected kidnapper's vehicle Wednesday Night, Police pulled the Jeep over & the trooper made contact with the driver and returned to his patrol car, the Jeep sped off and police pursued for about 20 miles, state police positioned vehicles around the Jeep to force it to stop. Virginia State Police said that the driver 35 year old Michael Davis began firing shots as troopers approached the Jeep, Troopers returned fire, Davis was shot and suffered life-threatening injuries, Tatiana David was shot and killed during the incident.

Delaware County District Attorney's office announced that 33 year old Andelis Santiago of Hartford Connecticut, was convicted on 1 count of Driving While Ability Impaired by Drugs and Unlawfully Fleeing a Police Officer in a Motor Vehicle in the Town of Hancock Court. Santiago was alleged to have been speeding on State Route 17 in the Town of Hancock, State Police initiated a traffic stop, & he failed to stop his vehicle for approximately 8 miles, until he drove off the road. 26 Year old Brandin VanTassel of Walton, was sentenced Monday in Delaware County Court for Criminal Contempt. VanTassel previously pleaded guilty to Criminal Contempt in February, with a 6 month sentence & 5 years’ probation supervision, he contacted the protected party again in violation of the order of protection, Delaware County Court Judge Gary Rosa ruled that as a result of the new conduct, the Court was not bound by the original plea agreement, VanTassel was re-sentenced to 1 and 1/3 to 4 years in state prison.

State Police And the Division of Criminal Justice Services released a Missing Vulnerable Adult Alert today. 34 year old Tatiana David from Ithaca was last seen this morning at about 7:20 AM and may have been abducted. David is described as a black woman about 5'9" tall and about 180 pounds, with black hair & brown eyes, she was last seen with 35 year old Michael David, who was driving a white Jeep Cherokee, they may be headed through this area heading for New York City. Police said that Davis is a black man, 6'4" tall about 200 pounds with black hair & brown eyes. Anyone with information is asked to call 911, or 607-561-7400.
The Broome County Sheriff’s Office is currently looking for Tanya McGreal on an outstanding warrant, she was last known to frequent the Colesville Road area of the Town of Colesville. The State Comptroller's Office audited the state Department of Health, reporting that they need to make sure that they get the drug rebates that it is entitled to under federal regulations. State Comptroller Tom DiNapoli said that the largest portion of money left on the table was $109.4 million in rebates, following an error on 490,875 claims that incorrectly showed that no Medicaid payment had been made, making them ineligible for rebates, another mistake with Magellan resulted in missing out on $9.6 million in rebates.

40 year old Derek Wignall of Hancock appeared in Delaware County Court Monday and pleaded guilty to Criminal Contempt, for allegedly violating an order of protection. After arraignment, Wignall pleaded guilty to the charge, he admitted that he disobeyed the order of protection by threatening violence against the protected party, he will be sentenced to serve 6 months in the Delaware County Correctional Facility, and then 5 years of felony probation supervision. Wignall was committed to the custody of the Delaware County Sheriff’s Department following his guilty plea, Sentencing is scheduled for May 15th.

35-year-old Bruice Jeffrey of North Norwich was arrested by Chenango County Sheriff's Deputies Sunday after allegedly stealing more than $130,000 from an elderly person. The arrest followed an investigation into Jeffrey started by a claim from the Chenango County Social Services Department, he is accused of stealing from an elderly person's account for 7 years. Jeffrey was charged with 3 counts of grand larceny and petty larceny, he was released with an appearance ticket and is due back in court at a later date.

Randolph was caught with large quantities of methamphetamine, heroin, and fentanyl when police raided his motel room in Endicott in August of 2021, he was on parole from a previous conviction for selling methamphetamine. Randolph was sentenced to 5 years in state prison followed by 2 years of post-release supervision.

59-year-old Norman O’Neil of Endwell died Friday after he fell through the ice when he and 1 other man were ice fishing in Tioga County. Tioga County Sheriff's Office and area EMT's & Firefighters responded, The sheriff’s office reported that the other man fell through the ice but pulled himself out but was unable to save O'Neill, First responders pulled O’Neil out, he was not responsive attempts to resuscitate O’Neil, he died from the injuries he sustained. The unidentified companion was taken to an area hospital & was treated and released.

Lawton was airlifted to Wilson Hospital where she later died of her injuries.

Police found approximately 15 grams of Fentanyl packaged for sale and other drug packaging materials at the Court Street location, Kaheem Ward of Binghamton was charged with 4 Counts of Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance and 2 Counts of Criminally Using Drug Paraphernalia.
New York State has announced a statewide pharmacy standing order for all pharmacies for naloxone beginning today. Naloxone blocks the effects of opioids allowing a person to regain consciousness and resume normal breathing. The State health department stated that some pharmacy chains already have provided their own standing orders, covering over 2,600 pharmacies, and independent Pharmacies may now also have naloxone ready for use.

Law enforcement agencies throughout the State are increasing patrols to target speeding through Sunday, as part of Speed Awareness week. Last year, law enforcement throughout the state issued 23,087 tickets for speeding and 32,170 tickets for other vehicle and traffic law violations, such as impaired and distracted driving.

The store has been closed & underwent extensive renovations since the shooting, 18 year old Payton Gendron of Conklin is being held on 10 counts of 1st-degree murder, 2nd-degree murder as a hate crime and 3 counts of attempted murder as a hate crime, he is being held without bail pending future court action.
Tioga Downs Casino Resort President and CEO Jeff Gural has been nominated by President Joe Biden to join his administration, as the chair of the Public Buildings Reform Board. The Board is an independent agency used to identify opportunities for the Federal government to significantly reduce its inventory of civilian real property, which would cut costs. Gural is expected to accept the nomination.
39 year-old Isaac Anzaroot of Brooklyn was arrested today by the Binghamton Police Warrant Division. Anzaroot is the owner of numerous properties in the city, he was wanted on 12 bench warrants and 2 arrest warrants related to housing code violations & for failing to appear in court to answer those violations. The Binghamton Code Department condemned the First National Bank building at 95 Court due to fire alarm system issues, which forced many of Anzaroot's tenants to locate elsewhere.

State Comptroller Tom DiNapoli's office issued a follow up report on a 2019 audit of the Hancock Fire Department. The audit included recommendations for rental payments, disbursements made by the Treasurer and collections from the clothing organization, ambulance corporation and fundraising activities. Auditors revisited the department this year, the department has had 1 of 10 recommendations implemented, 3 were partially implemented and 6 were not implemented.

Development Chenango Corporation announced the next phase of the ‘Hotel Norwich’ initiative. Last year, Development Chenango purchased 14 to 16 South Broad Street, Norwich, for the purpose of developing a boutique hotel. Gendron has been in custody since the May 14th shooting at a Buffalo TOPS Supermarket, the 25-count indictment also contains charges of murder and attempted murder as a hate crime and weapons possession.

State Police responded to a report of a head-on collision involving an SUV and a Trailways bus on State Highway 23 in the town of Davenport. The only occupant of the SUV, a 65-year-old woman of Stamford, was pronounced deceased on scene. Her name is being withheld pending notifications to family. 5 people were on the bus, the driver is a 44-year-old woman of Astoria, and passenger who is a 59-year-old female of Hartwick were transported to Bassett Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries. 3 other passengers were not injured, The investigation is on-going.
A law introduced after the murder of Utica teen Bianca Devins has passed in the State Senate and Assembly. Bianca’s Law would create criminal and civil penalties for disseminating personal images of crime victims. In 2019, Bianca Devins was murdered by Brandon Clark in Utica, he posted photos of her body on social media, which were spread on various platforms and sent directly to members of her family. The law is headed to Governor Hochul’s desk for approval..

Oneonta Police are investigating the murder of a 24-year-old Kaleb O’Neill of Oneonta Monday. Oneonta Police Department received a 911 call of a male being stabbed in the alleyway of 6 Dietz Street, O’Neill had multiple stab wounds, 1st responders administered aid, he was transported to A.O. Fox Hospital, where he was later pronounced deceased. State Police Forensic Identification Unit and canine unit were called to the scene and an attempt to locate the suspects was undertaken but revealed no other information. The case remains under investigation by the Oneonta Police Department & State Police BCI & Major Crimes Unit. Anyone with additional information is asked to contact the Oneonta Police Detective Division at (607) 432-1111.

State Police responded to a report of a motorcycle that crashed on I-81 Friday. A trooper located a Harley Davidson that had crashed into a guide-rail in the town of Marathon. The operator, 44 year old Daniel McPhillips of Throop, Pennsylvania was later located deceased, The investigation is on-going.

State Police arrested 21 year old Joseph Hayes of Middletown and 26 year old Cory Bartley of Fleischmanns for breaking a window at a synagogue in Fleischmanns, May 20th. Hayes and Bartley entered synagogue property, and Hayes threw a large rock at the building, breaking a window. Bartley also threw a rock at the building, which did not cause any damage. Hayes is charged with criminal mischief, criminal trespass, Bartley is charged with criminal mischief, Troopers issued both men appearance tickets returnable to Middletown town court on June 23.

Oneonta Police Department announced that a resident was contacted by a person claiming to be a Federal Agent, investigating a drug trafficking crime and that the City of Oneonta Police Chief, Christopher Witzenburg, would be calling to verify this investigation, then a person claiming to be the Chief Whitzenburgh contacted the resident, who stated that she knows what the Chief sounds like on the phone at which time the caller terminated the call. Chief Witzenburg contacted Homeland Security with the number the call came from, it was confirmed to be a scam call. Oneonta Police Department urges are residents to report scam calls to them or your local authorities & never give personal information to scam callers.
During a routine property check the Sidney Police Department located an open door in the back of the former Grand Union building behind McDonald's on Wednesday. Officers called for assistance and During the building search, 2 individuals were found inside the building illegally. 37 year old Peter Puglisi of Sidney and 39 year old Thomas Dugon of Afton were charged with 3rd degree Burglary, Possession of burglar tools & Attempted Petty larceny. Both men were arraigned in Village of Sidney Court & were released on their own recognizance to appear back in court at a later date.

Village of Sidney Police Department with the assistance of the Hancock Police Department, Arrested 31 year old Jon Speller of Hancock on an active arrest warrant issued by the Village of Sidney Court. The arrest stems from an investigation into a complaint of a Family Court order of protection being violated over 20 times in a two week period. Speller was arrested and charged with the 21 counts of Criminal contempt, he was arraigned in Village of Sidney Court where he was remanded to the Delaware County Jail on $750 bail.

Broome County DA Mike Korchak announced that 30 year old Austin Whitney of Binghamton was sentenced to 25 years to life in State Prison, for the 2nd degree murder of Anthony Cebula. Whitney admitted to killing Cebula by striking him in the head repeatedly with a hammer in Binghamton in January of 2021.
The Otsego County Sheriff's Office reported an inmate death at the Otsego County Jail Sunday afternoon, after correction officers found a unresponsive inmate in his cell during rounds. The inmate was pronounced dead at Bassett Medical Center, The State Commission of Corrections and the Attorney General's Office are reviewing the case.

The Delaware County Sheriff’s Office and the Walton Fire Department responded to the Delaware County DPW Garage in Walton Tuesday. A metal object had been brought to the Garage by an employee for disposal, it was determined to be an antique undetonated explosive device & the State Police Bomb Disposal Unit responded & removed it from the scene. The incident closed several Walton Streets & altered the schedule of the Walton School District, there were no injuries reported.
The FDA announced a recall of Continental Mills pancake and waffle mix sold in New York. The recall was for Great Value Buttermilk Pancake & Waffle Mix, with an expiration date of 9/01/2023. The mixes are sold at Walmarts nationwide. The recall is due to potential foreign material contamination, according to the FDA. Fragments from a cable used to clear the processing line were discovered in a limited amount of product, the FDA states.
U.S. Senator Kirsten Gillibrand, who is chair of the Senate Armed Services Personnel Subcommittee held a hearing on suicide in the armed forces, as the rates of suicide among active military people & Veterans has quadrupled since 2001:

Delaware County Sheriff’s Deputies conducted a traffic stop Monday on State Highway 17 in Hancock. 25-year-old Keisha Herelle of Brooklyn was arrested for operating while registration revoked or suspended, & speeding. Herelle was released and is scheduled to appear before the Town of Hancock Court at a later date.

The original STOCK Act strengthened disclosure rules and prevented public servants, including members of Congress, their families, and their staff, from using their access for self-enrichment. The STOCK Act 2.0 would impose additional disclosure requirements and restrictions for high level officials to ensure that members of Congress and public servants aren’t lining their pockets with taxpayer dollars.
Edmeston Fire Fighters responded to a structure fire Tuesday evening at 9:00 PM. The fire was reported near State Route 80 and Dinky Joe Road, the structure was completely destroyed, no injuries have been reported & the cause of the fire is under investigation.

20 year old Makahi Bryant of Brooklyn, was sentenced today in a federal court in Binghamton unemployment fraud. Bryant made thousands of dollars in illegal transactions when he was a student at SUNY Delhi, he admitted that he obtained 2 debit cards containing unemployment insurance benefits by the state of California, he illegally made over $13,000 in transactions using the debit cards for cash or other items. Bryant was sentenced to 3 years probation, 60 hours of community and he was ordered to pay restitution to California.

The Sidney Central School District will be holding 2 COVID-19 at-home test kit distributions, with a drive-thru service at the Jr./Sr. High School horseshoe parking lot. Delaware County Sheriff’s Deputies on Patrol on State Highway 97 in the Town of Hancock last Friday observed a pick up truck driving in a reckless manner in the parking lot of a commercial facility. At the conclusion of their investigation, Sheriff’s Deputies determined that the operator, 21-year old Porter Crawson, of Long Eddy was operating his motor vehicle while both his driver’s license and registration were suspended. Crawson was charged with Aggravated Unlicensed Operation and Operating with a Suspended Registration. Crawson was later released on traffic tickets returnable to the Town of Hancock Court at a later date.
An off-duty sheriff’s deputy and his 21-year-old son were killed and the deputy’s wife was in critical condition Tuesday after the three were shot inside their home. Off-duty Onondaga County Deputy Isaac Eames was found shot to death inside his home in the town of Clay at about 7:30 a.m. Monday, the deputy’s wife, 46 year old Karen Eames and son, 21 year old Troy Eames were also shot inside the home and were taken to Upstate University Hospital. Troy Eames died later Monday and his mother was listed in critical condition, The investigation is continuing.

Norwich Mayor Shawn Sastri rescinded his resignation at a meeting of the Norwich Common Council, he had previously announced that he would resign & wanted to become the city’s Youth Bureau Director instead. The common Council tabled their Youth Director appointment to Sastri, and he will continue to serve as mayor until the end of the year.
Delaware County Sheriff’s Deputies observed a vehicle fail to stop at a stop sign at State Highway 10 and County Highway 26 in the Town of Hamden on June 27th. Deputies stopped the vehicle and identified the driver as 47 year-old James Eriksen of Delhi, a routine DMV inquiry revealed that Eriksen’s drivers’ license was revoked in 1996 for operating a motor vehicle without insurance. Eriksen was charged aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle and failure to stop at a stop sign; he was released to appear in the Town of Hamden Court on a later date.
The Broome County Sheriff's Office arrested 45 year old Jaime Crowley of Windsor, following a deputy-involved shooting in the Town of Windsor. Crowley surrendered himself to authorities after he was released from the hospital, he was charged with Aggravated possession of a weapon, 6 counts of criminal possession of a weapon, 2 counts of menacing a police officer & Reckless endangerment. Deputies responded on July 3rd to a report of shots fired at a car making a K-turn at a residence on Cascade Valley Road, when deputies arrived, Crowley was pointing a handgun at officers, they demanded Crowley drop the weapon multiple times before they shot him in the shoulder, Crowley fired 1 round back, no deputies were injured. Crowley was remanded to the Broome County Correctional Facility pending future court action.
Governor Cuomo today signed legislation that will allow restaurants to utilize municipal spaces like sidewalks and streets for outdoor dining; it will allow restaurants to continue using these public spaces for another year as they recover from the economic devastation brought by the COVID-19 pandemic. Restaurant usage of outdoor public space must meet all federal, state, and local laws, they must also have a temporary use permit from the municipality, which is tasked with ensuring the public space is used in a safe, orderly manner.

Under this new legislation, gun manufacturers cannot endanger the safety and health of the public through the sale, manufacturing, importing or marketing of the products they sell. The products can be considered a public nuisance even if the gun manufacturer did not purposely cause harm to the public. Governor Cuomo also issued an executive order declaring a disaster emergency on gun violence in the state of New York.

State Police responded to a report of a 92-year-old male who was missing in the town of Unadilla on Sheep Pen Road. The unidentified man disappeared Monday, Troopers were assisted by Forest Rangers, Sidney EMS, Unadilla Fire Department and neighbors, Trooper Darrell Dening and his K9 partner Kin were able to track the man and located him shortly after 4:00 PM yesterday, about a mile and a half away from his residence. he was unable to make it back after falling down a hill; he was taken to A.O. Fox Hospital for treatment.

State Police responded to a crash involving 2 vehicles at the intersection of State Route 28 and James F. Lettis Highway in the town of Oneonta at about noon on Sunday July 4th. A motorcycle operated by 29 year old Anthony Masi of Otego was on State Highway 28 when he struck a Chevy Traverse that was on James F. Lettis Highway. Masi was transported to A.O Fox Memorial Hospital & was later transported by LifeNet to Albany Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries. The operator of the Traverse was not injured. State Police revealed that Masi's motorcycle was recently reported as stolen. The investigation is on-going.

Chenango County Public Health announced that their next COVID vaccination clinic will be on July 14th at Seeber's Tavern in Smithville Flats from 3:00 to 6:00pm, then on July 15th a 1st dose Pfizer for 12 years and older clinic will be held at the former Label Shopper Store, in the South Plaza, in Norwich from 4:00 to 6:00pm. 61.7 % of the 18 plus County population has had one dose of vaccine; more information is available at 337-1660.
State Comptroller Tom DiNapoli's office reported that Chenango County's local sales tax collections were up over 21% in the first 5 months of 2021, following similar good News about Delaware County. Sales tax collections across the state were up significantly in the first 2 quarters, New Yorkers as a whole were making home improvements, spending more with local merchants, and the state is collecting a growing amount of tax collections from online retailers and at the gas pumps.

Sidney Police Department arrested 46 year old John Hedman of Unadilla, he was charged with 2nd degree Assault & Criminal possession of a weapon, he was arraigned in Village of Sidney Court where he was released on his own recognizance to appear back in court on a later date.

The Delaware County Department of Public Works will begin oil and stone operations in the northern portion of the county Today, on county Route 3 followed by county routes 6, 41, 8, 36 and 37. The work is expected to take 3 to 4 weeks, depending on weather.
