Former Oneonta Mayor David Brenner passed away Friday at the age of 90. Brenner served on the Otsego County Board of Representatives for many years, in 1985 he was elected Mayor of the City of Oneonta, a position he held for 12 years. Visitation will be held from 4:00 to 7:00 PM Friday, at the Lewis, Hurley & Pietrobono Funeral Home, 51 Dietz Street in Oneonta. The State Supreme Court Appellate Division ruled that Actress Diane Neal of Hurley will be on the November ballot as an independent congressional candidate in the 19th District. The state Board of Elections last month rejected over 1,800 of the more than 4,100 signatures on Neal's petition, on Monday, the state Supreme Court Appellate Division ruled in Neal's favor in her challenge of the decision. Democrat Antonio Delgado is challenging Republican incumbent John Faso for the 19th Congressional District seat.

3 independent candidates in the 19th Congressional District race have been removed from the ballots, after having insufficient valid signatures on their nominating ballots. Luisa Parker of Callicoon, Dal LaMagna of Clinton & former "Law & Order" TV Actress Dianne Neal of Hurley had their names removed; Neal & LaMagna are expected to appeal the decision by the board of elections.

The City of Oneonta and its Common Council reported that Mayor Richard Miller died Saturday morning at 10:25 AM in his home. Miller served as Mayor of Oneonta since 2009, before that he served as President of Hartwick College in Oneonta. Otsego County Coroner James Hurley’s report stated that Miller died from a self-inflict gun shot wound.

State Police in Oneonta investigated a 2-car fatal motor vehicle accident on State Route 23 in the Town of Oneonta Tuesday morning. The investigation revealed that 66-year-old Francis Gesel of Massachusetts crossed into the westbound lane into the path of a Hyundai operated by 62-year-old Terry Church of Oneonta. Gesel was transported to Fox Hospital for a broken foot and chest pain, Church was pronounced dead at the scene by Otsego County Coroner James Hurley. The investigation is continuing.
