Otsego County Sheriff's Office arrested 54 year old Shelley Wilkerson of Worcester for Overdriving, torturing and injuring animals and failure to provide sustenance following an investigation into a report of an elderly Great Dane that was dying or deceased at Wilkerson's residence. Deputies found the Great Dane was located outside, the Investigation revealed that Wilkerson allegedly failed to provide proper veterinary care to the dog, which resulted in the dog's death. Wilkerson was arrested and was issued an Appearance Ticket to Town of Worcester Court at a later date.

Greater Opportunities of Broome and Chenango County, recently won the bid from the Norwich School District to purchase Flanagan Field on Plymouth Street in Norwich, they plan to build a $9 million multi-unit apartment project for low-income housing at the site. The sale of the parcel has to be approved by voters in the Norwich School District when they vote on the district budget on May 19th in the Norwich City School District Office, 89 Midland Drive in Norwich.

Walton Fire Department and Emergency Squad were dispatched Sunday at about 2:00 PM to a working structure fire on Fish Hollow Road in the Town of Hamden, that was called in by a passerby. Upon arriving, units found a 2 1/2 story farm house with smoke & flames showing, by 3:00 pm the fire was under control, the structure was a total loss and 1 nearby structure was saved, No injuries were reported to the 3 residents or firefighters, mutual aid was provided by several area Fire Departments.

Chenango County Sheriff's Office arrested 36 year old Samantha Kilts & 44 year old Kristopher Kovacks, of Smyrna, for Trespass, Criminal Mischief, and Petit Larceny after an investigation into a trespass complaint. It is alleged that Kovack and Kilts unlawfully went on the property of the victim, stole, and damaged items. Kovack and Kilts were arrested and released on appearance tickets to appear in the Town of Sherburne Court at a later date.

A Delaware County Grand Jury handed down a Sealed Indictment Warrant for the arrest of 50-year-old James Amato. Delaware County Sheriff’s Deputies arrested Amato on the Warrant, he was arraigned in Delaware County Court, where the indictment was unsealed, alleging that in April of 2021 Amato had taken logs off multiple properties in the Town of Hamden, causing damage to trees and property and selling the timber for profit. Amato was charged with 3 counts each of 3rd & 4th degree Grand Larceny and 6 counts of Criminal Mischief, Amato was released on his own recognizance and directed to re-appear in court at a future date.

The Otsego County Department of Health reports that a bat tested positive for rabies in the town of Oneonta, 1 person was exposed and started rabies post exposure vaccinations. All dogs, cats, and ferrets must be vaccinated for rabies, Unvaccinated pets in contact with wildlife that is suspected or confirmed to be rabid must be either euthanized or strictly quarantined at owner’s expense for 6 months. Delaware County Sheriff's Office arrested 56 year old Scott Wood of Hamden for Driving While Intoxicated on November 16thth. Deputies responded to an assist EMS call on West Terry Clove Road for a male having trouble breathing, the male left the scene and was traveling on West Terry Clove Road. Deputies found a vehicle stopped in the roadway with a male asleep in the driver seat, who was identified as Scott Wood, who was charged with DWI & Driving with a BAC of .08 of higher, Open Container among other charges, he was released and will appear in the Town Hamden Court at a later date.

State Police responded Saturday Afternoon to a report of a single car crash with entrapment in the town of Franklin. 74 year old Gjeto Vulaj of Delhi was traveling south on County Highway 16 in a 2005 Jeep Wrangler, he went off the road into a ditch and his vehicle became engulfed in flames. Vulaj was trapped in the vehicle when a family member who was traveling behind him and another citizen attempted to remove him from the vehicle but they were unsuccessful. Vulaj was ultimately extricated by fire personnel from Franklin and Treadwell Fire Departments. He was transported to A.O Fox Hospital but did not survive. The family member who attempted to free Vulaj suffered smoke inhalation and burns. The investigation is continuing.

49 year old Keith Audette of Hamden was indicted for Driving While Ability Impaired by Drugs by the Delaware County Grand Jury last week. The Indictment alleges that on April 9th, Audette was driving in the Village of Walton while impaired by methamphetamines, he was previously convicted of operating a motor vehicle with .08 BAC in 2015 in Chenango County, where he was required to have an interlock device in any vehicle he operates. Audette was also charged with Aggravated Unlicensed Operation of a Motor Vehicle as well as driving without an Interlock Device, & he faces court action shortly.
Delaware County Sheriff's Office continues to ask for the public's help in locating a stolen Bandit Wood-chipper from the area of BWS Road and Mill Brook Road in the Town of Middletown, sometime between June 3rd & 4th. Upon arrival, Deputies identified a male walking away from the scene, as 44-year-old Jesse Luscomb of Hamden. Luscomb had traveled onto private property with a vehicle and caused significant damage to the property, ultimately becoming disabled in mud. Luscomb was charged DWI, Uninspected Motor Vehicle and Leaving the scene of a property damage accident, Obstructing Governmental Administration, Reckless Criminal Mischief & Trespassing, Luscomb was processed and was then transported to the Delaware County Correctional Facility for Arraignment.

The National Weather Service office in Binghamton is currently conducting a storm survey following thunderstorms Monday So Far, investigators determined that an EF3 tornado struck Lewis County in the towns of Lewis and Turin, in Madison County, Munnsville saw an EF1 tornado & in Vernon and Taberg, in Oneida County, an EF1 tornado touched down.
The State Department of Labor announced that its Division of Worker Protection investigators have recovered and returned over $11.7 million in stolen wages to 12,000 affected workers since January 1, putting the Department on track to recover $20 million in stolen wages this year. Over the past decade, they have recovered and dispersed more than $360 million in stolen wages, identified over a million misclassified workers, and assessed over $400 million owed in unemployment insurance contributions through both criminal cases and civil enforcement.

State Police arrested 42 year old Christopher Yeary of Hamden, Saturday night for Criminal Possession of a Weapon, Unlawful Imprisonment, Criminal Mischief, Criminal Obstruction of Breathing, & Menacing, following a domestic dispute on Chambers Hollow Road. Walton Police Officers were first on scene and assisted in removing a victim from the area, Yeary allegedly choked, then menaced the victim with a firearm. He then prevented the victim from leaving the residence and smashed the victim’s cell phone. Yeary refused to leave the residence to speak with law enforcement. After several hours, Yeary was taken into custody, he was arraigned and remanded to the Delaware County Jail on $25,000 bail or $50,000 bond.

State Police responded early Saturday Morning to a 1-vehicle crash on Shacktown Mountain Road in the town of Pittsfield. Troopers discovered that a vehicle exited the roadway, went down an embankment and struck trees, a 22-year-old passenger was pronounced deceased on scene. The 22-year-old driver was transported to Bassett Hospital for non-life-threatening injuries. The crash remains under investigation.

Delaware County DPW announced the closure of county Route 37 in the town of Middletown to through traffic starting at 7:00 AM on Monday July 25. Crews will be performing a slope stabilization project, the closure will be between Main Street and Breezy Hill Road, work is expected to be completed by the end of August. The road will be open for one lane traffic controlled by a traffic light, during off-work hours.

The Norwich Downtown Revitalization Initiative's Local Planning Committee Meeting announced a 4th meeting will be held virtually on ZOOM on Monday, April 25th at 3:00 PM. The purpose of this meeting is to continue the Committee's discussion and review of potential projects for inclusion in Norwich’s Strategic Investment Plan. Chenango County Sheriff's Deputies responded on Sunday to a residence on Knapp Road in the Town of Sherburne for a reported Shooting. Deputies located 39 year old Joseph Hubbard of Poolville, deceased inside of the residence from a gunshot from a rifle. There were also two other adults and children inside the residence at the time of the incident. The parties involved were known to each other. There is no danger to the public and all parties involved have been identified and the investigation is ongoing, with assistance from State Police.

Delaware County Sheriff’s Deputies stopped a vehicle operated by 32- year-old Jesse McHargue of Middleburgh, last Thursday for inadequate tail lamps. Deputies learned that McHargue’s driver’s license was revoked due failing to answer a previous summons out of the Town of Middleburgh. McHargue was charged with Aggravated Unlicensed Operation of a Motor Vehicle and Operating a Motor Vehicle Without Tail Lamps, he was released and was directed to appear at Hamden Town Court at a later date to answer the charge.

The Trial of Heather Franklin will begin on Aprils 1st in Chenango County Court, for the murder of her special needs son Jeffrey in 2017. Minimum Wage employees across the state will see their paycheck go about for the New Year. New York City employees for large companies will see an increase to $15 dollars an hour; Long Island and Westchester County workers will see the minimum wage set at $12 dollars an hour, the rest of the state will see an increase to $11.10 an hour.

The Johnson City Police Department arrested 26-year-old Tyler DeCamp of Deposit as the 5th person involved in the stabbing of 2 men at a Johnson City McDonalds last week. Decamp was charged with 2 counts of attempted murder, he is accused of stabbing both victims. State Police at Deposit arrested 28 year old Rio Myers of Damascus for Driving While Intoxicated, Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance, & Unlawful Possession of Marihuana. A trooper on patrol was on the lookout for a vehicle operating erratically, a description was provided. The trooper was able to observe the vehicle in the town of Hancock unable to maintain a lane. A traffic stop was initiated and Myers was arrested, he was also found to be in possession of THC wax. He was released on appearance tickets returnable to the town of Hancock Court on October 22.
State Police arrested 25 year old Eric Frank of Oxford for Assault & Criminal Possession of a Weapon, Menacing and Reckless Endangerment, Troopers were dispatched to a residence on County Road 32 in Oxford for a report of a dispute. A complainant told troopers that Frank pointed a shotgun at the complainant then fired it in the air. He’s also accused of punching the complainant in the face then with the stock of the gun. Frank allegedly then struck the mailbox with his vehicle. Frank was arraigned in the town of Oxford Court and remanded to the Chenango County Jail on $15,000 cash bail or $30,000 property bond.

Brown sustained lacerations and was treated at Chenango Memorial Hospital, he was taken into custody and arraigned & was remanded to the Chenango County Jail on $1,000 cash bail or $2,000 bond and is to appear in the town of Pitcher Court on October 16th, an order of protection was issued to all 3 women.

23-year-old Kevin Perry of Laurens pleaded guilty to 2 counts of 2nd degree murder in Otsego County court Friday. Perry pleaded guilty to killing his parents in their town of Laurens home in early December of last year. Perry will face sentencing on October 19th.
Delaware County Sheriff’s Deputies & the Downsville Fire Department and Emergency Squad responded to a 911 report of a motor vehicle accident Sunday Morning on County Highway 7; The Cat Hollow Road in the Town of Colchester. Upon arrival, first responders found the involved vehicle fully engulfed in flames. Following fire suppression, responders found that the vehicle’s driver was deceased, there were no other occupants. Investigators determined that 41 year old Anthony Driskell of Unadilla, lost control of his vehicle, left the roadway and struck a tree. The cause of this accident remains under investigation.
Delaware County Sheriff's Deputies investigated a fatal motor vehicle accident on State Highway 10 in the Town of Walton Friday Night. 21 year old Aaron Tubbs of Treadwell was operating a bicycle on State Hwy 10, when he was fatally struck by a vehicle operated by 66 year old Michelle Mason of Hamden. Mason and her passenger were uninjured. The cause of the collision remains under investigation.

The Broome County Sheriff’s Office released an update regarding Sunday's SUV accident into a stone barn in the town of Fenton. Investigators reported that a the driver of a Chevy Equinox struck the barn on Route 369 at about 7:00 AM Sunday, alcohol, speeding and failure to maintain the lane were contributing factors. The driver was pronounced dead at the scene, the name of the driver has not yet been released.

Chenango County Sheriff’s Office arrested 22 year old Brittney Macumber of Walton for Aggravated harassment, after she allegedly sent numerous threatening messages. Macumber was released on an appearance ticket for a later date in the Town of Oxford Court.
Chenango County 911 Center received a call of a shooting Friday in the Town of Lincklaen. A 23 year old male victim was shot in the arm and the suspect John Hart was still in the residence. Chenango County Sheriff's Office Deputies & State Troopers responded to the scene, they made attempts over an 8 hour period to contact Hart, who had barricaded himself inside. Hart was located in the residence deceased with a self-inflicted gunshot wound. The victim was transported to Upstate Medical Hospital and is in stable condition. The investigation is ongoing.

Delaware County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to a one car, roll-over, accident in the Town of Hamden Friday afternoon that resulted in 18 year old Lilliana Bevilacqua of Franklin, sustaining minor injuries. Bevilacqua was driving on Covert Hollow Road when she lost control on a curve due to excessive speed, her car entered a ditch, struck a tree and overturned several times. Bevilacqua exited her vehicle, she was transported to O’Connor Hospital in Delhi for treatment of an arm injury. Deputies issued Bevilacqua traffic summonses for speed not reasonable and imprudent, failure to keep right, and making an unsafe lane change and directed her to appear in the Hamden Town Court on a later date to answer those charges.

Delaware County Sheriff’s Deputies responded Friday to a report of a 1-car motor vehicle accident on Richardson Hill Road in the Town of Masonville. Deputies found the driver, 20 year old Holden Smith of Sidney Center lying on the shoulder of the roadway with an apparent broken leg. Smith’s car was found over the embankment at that location and was found to have impacted a tree head on. Further investigation revealed that Smith was driving to Sidney Center from the Ithaca area at the time of the accident, and that Smith had consumed prescription medications prior to the accident. Smith was later transported to Wilson Hospital for treatment of the injuries sustained from the collision.

State Police arrested 24 year old James Joyce of Colesville for Unlawful Fleeing a Police Officer in a Motor Vehicle & Reckless Endangerment, plus more than a dozen traffic tickets after he attempted to elude troopers while on an ATV. A trooper on State Route 7 in Unadilla observed Joyce on an ATV as he passed an ambulance with its emergency lights activated and over a double solid yellow line. Joyce fled from the trooper, nearly striking a pedestrian. The pursuit was terminated In Bainbridge when Joyce drove onto railroad tracks & he tipped over. Joyce was arraigned in the town of Bainbridge Court and remanded to the Chenango County Jail on $2,500 cash bail or $5,000 bond, pending court action on July 24, 2018.

Delaware County Sheriff Deputies arrested 29 year old Vincent Reggero of Arkville, for False Personation, after he identified himself to Deputies during a traffic stop on State Highway 206 in the Town of Walton on June 25th using a false name and date of birth. Reggero had an active warrant for his arrest from San Antonio, Texas for Assault/Bodily Injury of a Security Officer; he was then arrested as a Fugitive from Justice and arraigned in the Village of Walton Court where he was remanded to the Delaware County Correctional Facility without bail. Reggero will answer to charges in the Town of Walton while he awaits extradition to the State of Texas.

State Police Superintendent George Beach announced the death of Trooper Nicholas Clark. Early Monday morning, Trooper Clark, the Stueben County Sheriff’s Office and the Corning Police Department responded to a call of a suicidal subject barricaded at a residence in the town of Erwin, Stueben County. During the incident response, Trooper Clark was shot and killed. 43-year old Steven Kiley was found in the residence dead of an apparent gunshot wound. Trooper Clark was 29 years old, he graduated from the 203rd session of the Basic School in 2015. The incident remains under investigation.

The Broome County Sheriff's Office has released the names of the 2 people who died in a Motorcycle accident on June 16th on State Route 26 in the Town of Nanticoke. The deceased motorcyclists have been identified as 41 year old Kathryn Schultheis of Binghamton and 39 year old Brandy Lynn of Newark Valley. Deputies said that the operator of the pick-up truck was 35 year old Sarah Robbins of Whitney Point, she was not injured, and the accident is still under investigation.

Delaware County Sheriff’s Deputies arrested 28 year old Cesar Ortiz of Palms Springs Florida, on charges of driving while intoxicated, aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle 3rd degree, and failure to keep right. Ortiz was arranged in Town of Delhi Court and sent to the Delaware County Correctional Facility on $1000 cash or $2000 bond and is to reappear in Town of Hamden Court at a later date. Deputies were assisted by members of the Walton Police Dept.
The City of Oneonta will hold a public hearing this evening at the Oneonta Common Council Meeting at 7:00 pm at City Hall to receive public comments on the City’s community development needs, and to discuss the possible submission of 1 or more Community Development Block Grant applications for 2018. The City is currently considering a grant application for $230,000 for Nick’s Diner on Chestnut Street.

The Delaware County Sheriff’s department announced that a man, who crashed his ATV in the town of Hamden Saturday, has died from his injuries. 30 year old Michael Armstrong of Roxbury had crashed his ATV into a tree; he was not wearing a helmet & sustained head injuries and was eventually taken to Basset Hospital in Cooperstown where he succumbed to the injuries Sunday night. A passenger on the Armstrong ATV was wearing a helmet & suffered only minor injuries, 2 others were injured when they crashed into the damaged Armstrong ATV. Deputies believe that alcohol was involved & the investigation is continuing.
Delaware County Sheriff's Office responded to a personal injury, rollover UTV accident on Bloomville Hill Road in the Town of Meredith. the driver; 27 year old Nicholas Santomero, of Brewster, suffered a medical emergency and lost control of the side-by-side UTV which subsequently rolled over, ejecting Santomero and his passenger, 26 year old Cody Petrucci of Harrison. Deputies reported that neither one was wearing a seat belt or a helmet, they were transported to O’Connor Hospital, Petrucci was later transferred to Bassett Hospital in Cooperstown, for treatment of a serious head injury. Nicholas Santomero was treated at O’Connor Hospital and released. The investigation is continuing.
Rehabilitation work on the Route 12 Bridge over Fly Meadow Creek in the Town of Oxford is underway. The $1.1 million project will replace the deck and perform additional structural work to improve the overall condition of the bridge. Work on the bridge is expected to be completed by the end of November 2018.
The Unadilla Town Board will be holding a Special Board Meeting today at 6:30 PM. The board will be making an appointment for the position of Special Police Officer for the Town of Unadilla, the meeting will be held at the Unadilla Town Hall on State Route 7.

The investigation is continuing & alcohol was a contributing factor, charges are anticipated.

Governor Cuomo announced more than $100 million in state funding to repave and enhance roadways impacted by the harsh weather this past winter. The projects will take place throughout the summer and into fall, and will be completed this year. Delaware County Sheriff’s Office’s arrested 32 year old Andrew Baker of Bainbridge for Criminal Mischief. Baker is accused of intentionally damaging leg restraints while incarcerated at the Delaware County jail; he is scheduled to appear in the Town of Delhi Court on March 27th for arraignment.
State Police arrested 35 Year old Christopher Lindow of Binghamton for Driving While Intoxicated with a B.A.C of .29% and several traffic infractions. A passing motorist had contacted Chenango County 911 reporting that a vehicle was parked in the middle of the driving lane on State Route 26, in the town of Bainbridge. Lindow was arrested & was released on appearance tickets for town of Bainbridge Court on April 5th.
State Police arrested 49 year old Dwayne Lockwood of Guilford for DWI. Troopers were originally called to a dispute at a residence in the town of Butternuts but learned that Lockwood left the residence prior to their arrival. Lockwood was located by Troopers at a business nearby, he was arraigned in the town of Guilford Court, he was remanded to the Chenango County Jail on $500 cash bail or $1,000 bond pending an April 10th court date.
State Police arrested 19 year old Sarah Smith of Oneonta for Petty Larceny, for allegedly stealing state lottery tickets while employed at Leatherstocking Market and Fuels on County Highway 11 in the town of Davenport. Smith was arrested and issued an appearance ticket returnable to the town of Davenport Court on March 27th.
Delaware County Sheriff’s Deputies arrested 19 year old Isabella Crusan, of Schenectady with 3rd degree Assault during an investigation in the Town of Delhi where Crusan is accused of causing physical injury to another person. Crusan was arraigned at the Town of Davenport Court & was released on her own recognizance; she will appear in Town of Delhi Court at a later date.
Delaware County Sheriff’s Deputies arrested 41 year old Daniel Sulima of Walton, for Aggravated Unlicensed Operation of a Motor Vehicle, following a routine traffic stop in Walton. Troopers discovered that Sulima’s driving privileges were revoked, he was also charged with operating a motor vehicle with unsafe tires. Sulima was arraigned at the Town of Hamden Court & was remanded to the Delaware County Jail on $150 cash bail, pending future court action.
State Police at Sidney arrested 20 year old Brandon Swislosky of Unadilla for Operating a Motor Vehicle While Impaired by Drugs and Unlawful Possession of Marijuana. Swislosky was stopped at a checkpoint on State Highway 7, in the town of Unadilla, Troopers determined that Swislosky was driving while impaired by drugs; he was released and was issued appearance tickets for town of Unadilla Court at a later date.
