Chenango County Sheriff's Office arrested 39 year old Ian Quinn of Norwich Wednesday for Burglary in the 2nd Degree, following an investigation into a burglary Tuesday in the Town of Norwich. Quinn is accused of unlawfully entering the victim’s dwelling and stealing property, Quinn was arrested and remanded to the Chenango County Correctional Facility pending arraignment in Chenango County Court.

Humphry was remanded to the Broome County Jail. She is scheduled to return to court on April 15, 2026, for sentencing, she faces a potential sentence ranging from 5 to 25 years in state prison.

35 year old Duane Kinne of Walton appeared in Delaware County Court Wednesday and was sentenced to 12 years in state prison followed by 20 years of post-release supervision. On December 21, 2024, Walton Police arrested Kinne and charged him with several counts of Unlawful Surveillance, and Criminal Sex Act, he appeared in Delaware County Court in March and waived his right to have the case presented to a Delaware County Grand Jury, he pleaded guilty to 6 counts of Unlawful Surveillance & 1 count of Criminal Sex Act, he was sentenced to six - 1 year sentences for each conviction of unlawful surveillance and to 12 years of imprisonment and 20 years of post-release supervision for his conviction of Criminal Sex Act, he was also ordered to register as a sex offender upon his release from state prison.

Brenner said that the Community Bank closing in Morris affects several communities around Morris, and that there has been significant growth in the surrounding area the last couple of years, which they hope warrants a banking institution to set up some sort of bank or credit union locally, and not force everyone to go 20 miles or more to do all of their banking needs.
The number of full-time local government workers employed outside of New York City shrank 7.9% from 2007 through 2022, according to a report by State Comptroller Tom DiNapoli. New York’s decline in local government employment is in contrast to the nation, which saw a 2% increase in the number of full-time employees over this 15-year period. Local government workforce levels were most impacted by two key events during this time – the Great Recession of 2007-09 and the COVID-19 pandemic. School districts were the largest local government employer in 2022, Counties were second, followed by cities and villages and towns.

The Pennsylvania State Police announced that Nikolas Petrich was taken into custody in Long Eddy, today by New York State Police. Petrich is 1 of 6 people accused in the September 2022 murder of Tyler Barber in Great Bend, Pennsylvania, 5 other suspects were arrested in Towanda, Pennsylvania last week. State police say Barber was tied to a tree & beaten by the 6 suspects, Petrich & one other are accused of beating Barber with a baseball bat. All 6 were charged with homicide, kidnapping, and various other charges. Petrich is in a New York jail awaiting extradition to Pennsylvania to be arraigned on the charges.
Delaware County Sheriff's Deputies responded March 18th to a 2 car accident with injuries on County Highway 26, in the Town of Colchester. 1 vehicle had left the lane of travel, crossed over the double yellow line, and struck an oncoming vehicle head on. 49-year-old Andras Kasuba of Brooklyn was charged with DWI, driving with a BAC greater than 0.08%, aggravated DWI, plus 3 counts of Assault & several other charges. The driver of the other vehicle and 1 passenger were transported by Lifenet to Albany Medical Center and a 3rd passenger was taken to Delaware Valley Hospital, Kasuba was released on tickets returnable to the Town of Colchester Court at a later date.

Governor Hochul & U.S. Senators Schumer & Gillibrand announced that New York State will receive $100 million in federal funding from the U.S. Department of Treasury through the American Rescue Plan to expand high-speed internet. Morrison said that Reality Check Students will also be cleaning up cigarette butts in East & West Parks in Downtown Norwich on Saturday, which they plan to show to lawmakers to prove that smoking is still a significant problem in Chenango County, where 20% of the population is still smoking.
There will be 2 American Red Cross Blood Drives locally today. In Oneonta, a drive will be held from 12:00 Noon untl 5:00 PM on the SUNY Oneonta campus in Hunt Hall room 101C. Another drive will be held at the Walton O'Neill High School from 8:00 AM to 1:00 PM. The Great New York State Fair attendance has improved almost every day over last year's attendance, with this past Tuesday's attendance down by about 6,000, but it is still not back up to pre-pandemic levels. The Fair Attendance had been improving every year though 2019, the best attenance ever occured on September 4th 2019 when over 147,000 people went through the turnstiles. This year's highest attneadnce was last Saturday with just under 90,000 people.
American Red Cross blood drives are continuing today, as blood supplies remain critically low. One drive will be held in Oneonta from 12:30 to 5:30 PM, at the American Legion on Chestnut Street, Donors can schedule an appointment using the Red Cross Blood Donor App, by visiting RedCrossBlood.org or by calling 1-800-RED CROSS.
