Norwich City Police arrested 31 year old Brennon Bennett of Norwich for Failure to register as a sex offender and on a parole violation. Bennett is a Level 3 Sex Offender, who is accused of using a fraudulent address with the Norwich Police Department, where he is required to check in on a regular basis, in compliance with State Parole and Sex Offender Regulations. Bennett was convicted of 1st degree Attempted Rape in 2017, he was released from the jail & was Paroled in December. Bennett was arraigned at CAP Court and held on without bail due to prior felony convictions.
The Oxford Village Tree Board will be holding its 32nd “Tree City USA” and Arbor Day Celebration on Saturday, starting at 9 am., at LaFayette Park. The Tree City flag and plaque presentation will be part of the festivities, & there will be a giveaway of trees and shrubs.
Celebrate Earth Day by planting native wildflowers at Rogers Center, On Saturday, the public is invited to plant an assortment of seeds which will expand pollinator habitat around the Rogers Center Three Sisters Garden. The planting will begin at 10:30 am until 12 noon across the street from the visitor parking lot, There will be educational material available for each flower variety in the pollinator mix.

Delaware County Sheriff’s Office responded last May to a motor vehicle roll over accident in Harpersfield. 25-year-old Isaiah Caballero of Oneonta, lost control of the vehicle, it left the roadway and struck a tree, 25 year old Nyheim Golden-Williams was killed in the crash. Deputies located cocaine & a loaded pistol that did not have a serial number. Caballero was arrested at the Ulster Correctional Facility Tuesday, he was charged with Criminal Possession of a controlled substance, Criminal Possession of a weapon and Vehicular Manslaughter, he was arraigned and was remanded back to the Ulster Correctional facility on $20,000 cash bail or $40,000 bond. Delaware County Sheriff’s Deputies also arrested 21-year-old Alexis Lotterman of Walton for Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance, Criminal Possession of a Weapon, she was a passenger in the vehicle and was also in possession of the narcotics and firearm, she was arraigned and remanded to the Delaware County Correctional Facility on $10,000 cash bail or $20,000 secured bond.

Chenango County Sheriff's Office arrested 27 year old Austin DeMuth of Guilford following a vehicle pursuit Monday afternoon with a motorcycle, from the Town of Smithville & into Cortland County & Broome County. DeMuth was taken into custody, following a pursuit on foot in Whitney Point, he was transported to Wilson Hospital with minor injuries, & he was charged with Unlawful fleeing, Obstruction of Governmental Administration, Resisting Arrest and numerous traffic violations. DeMuth also had a warrant out of the Town of Norwich Court, he was arraigned in the City of Norwich Court and was remanded with no bail and is to return to court on a later date.

Broome County District Attorney Mike Korchak announced that the State Court of Appeals 3rd department upheld a rape conviction of Steven Silva of Johnson City. Silva was sentenced to 4 years in Jail followed by 10 years Post Release Supervision, plus he must register as a Sex Offender, for performing sexual acts with a 14 year old.

Investigations Unit Task Force executed a narcotics search warrant at 132 Main
St in the City of Binghamton. Investigators recovered: approximately an ounce
of Crystal Methamphetamine, drug packaging materials and approximately $5,000
in suspected drug sale proceeds.
Investigators charged Timothy Bell and Stephanie Starks on numerous drug
charges, they were held at the Binghamton Police Department awaiting
arraignment in Binghamton City Court. Starks is additionally being held on a
Petit Larceny Warrant out of the Village of Johnson City.

The City of Oneonta has been awarded a New York State Agriculture and Markets Community Growers Grant in the amount of $25,000 to make improvements to the Community Garden located at the Swart-Wilcox Park on Wilcox Avenue. Work at the garden will include installing a new accessible area with 4 raised table top beds, a new accessible path from the street and sidewalk to the garden, reinforced fencing to keep animals out, extending the water system through the length of the garden, a new shed and Communal gardening equipment, and new picnic tables and benches.

Brandon Corey was sentenced today in Broome County for a knifepoint rape of a woman in the parking lot at Wilson Hospital in Johnson City in April 2016. Corey will serve 10 years in prison followed by 20 years post-release supervision, he was also ordered to register as a sex offender.
The City of Oneonta & the Oneonta Federated Church will host a 25th anniversary ceremony & dedication on Saturday @ 2:00 PM at the Maple Street Park at the intersection of Maple & Normal. Police seized marijuana, prescription medication and $4,000 cash, they arrested 21 year old Glen Carey, from Malverne, 21 year old Gregory Garcia of Franklin Square, 21 year old Nicholas Monaco of Nyack for Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance. the 3 are accused of possessing Xanax Pills, Marijuana, counterfeit $50 bills, they were being held pending arraignment in the City of Oneonta Court.
The Delaware County Home and Garden Show will be held on Saturday, May 14, at the American Legion Hall in Delhi. Delaware County Sheriff's Deputies are investigating the burglary of a residence and garage located on Basin Clove Road in the Town of Hamden that occurred between approximately May 1st and July 11th. Stolen from the residence and garage were shotguns, various lawn & garden equipment, a woodstove, a flat screen television and several hand tools. Deputies are asking anyone that may have information about this burglary, or the possible location of the stolen property, to contact them at 746-2336, Extension 381.
The New York City Department of Environmental Protection will conduct a meeting Saturday, about water diversions and releases from the Cannonsville Reservoir. The meeting will be at 10:00 AM Saturday at the Hancock Central School, a DEP representative will provide information about the repairs and the status of the reservoir. 57-year-old Robert Gerbino of Garden City, New York was arrested by State Police for Criminally Negligent Homicide, based on a sealed indictment handed down by the Otsego County Grand Jury.   The Grand Jury determined that on November 16th Gerbino with criminal negligence caused the death of Charles Bruce of Franklin Square.   The men were part of a Hunting group in the Town of Westford.

Johnson City Police arrested 43 year old Christopher T. Davis of Johnson City and charged him with second degree murder. Davis allegedly killed his downstairs neighbor, 50 year old Patricia LaCaprara Monday in the course of an apparent burglary at 36 Brown St. in Johnson City. Davis was remanded to the Broome County Correctional Facility. Also arrested in the course of the investigation was 20 year old Binghamton resident Zachary Franks, who was charged with several warrants. Police are still investigating if Franks had any involvement in the case. Davis and Franks told authorities they are relatives. The annual Gus Macker 3 on 3 basketball tournament will be held this weekend in Norwich. The event features over 400 teams from ages 7 to 50 plus and brings thousands of spectators to the area. Organizer Tom Revoir said they are still in need of Gus Buster volunteers....

New York teachers have until August 1 to apply for a $60,000 stipend over four years to reward strong performance. The state Master Teacher Program, a component of Gov. Andrew Cuomo's education reform agenda, will enlist 250 math and science teachers from four regions this fall to mentor early-career educators. Under the program, the selected participants will receive $15,000 a year for four years. Applications are availale now online at www.suny.edu/MasterTeacher.

The New York State DOT will hold a public information meeting tonight to discuss a project to replace a bridge on State Route 30 & 206 over the East Branch Delaware River in the Town of Colchester. The meeting will be held at the Colchester Town Hall located at 72 Tannery Road, Colchester, at 7:00 PM. The bridge has been in use for 60 years and DOT inspectors have determined that it needs to be replaced. Three alternatives will be discussed at the meeting.

The 124th Afton Fair and Agricultural Exposition begins on Thursday with gates opening at 9am tomorrow morning. Activities through out the fair include Animal exhibits, Children's activities, Harness Racing, the Youth Dairy Show. The K Bar F Rodeo is Thursday night, I-88 Speedway racing on Friday night, The Open Horse Show on Saturday and Sunday, and Kaitlyn Jackson performs Saturday night with fireworks to follow at dark, and Sunday will feature the Afton Fair Idol Contest, along with the Catskill Garden Tractor pullers and T.O.Y.S. Darling requested that village water users refrain from using their washing machines, garden hoses & dishwashers until the leak is repaired.
24-year-old Jovan Gresham of Vestal pleaded guilty to assault and weapons charges for shooting a man 8 times at the former Victoria’s Restaurant in Binghamton in 2010.  Gresham pleaded guilty to 1st degree assault and 2 counts of 2nd degree criminal possession of a weapon, for the shooting of Karlshen Marks, and for unlawfully possessing a loaded  handgun in the City of Binghamton.  Gresham faces sentencing on April 1st; he was released on a cash bail bond of $50,000.
A former Otsego county motel manager has turned himself in to local authorities, after allegedly cashing a forged check in Oneonta last year.  24-year-old Kyle VanDewerker is accused of cashing a $600 check while serving as the manager of the Amber Life Inn Motel in Colliersville, a warrant of arrest was obtained for VanDewerker from the Oneonta City Court following a complaint form the motel owner.   VanDewerker faces court action shortly.
